New serp belt wasn't available at the time of filming so for demonstration purposes, the old belt was refitted. A new belt was fitted before vehicle left the workshop. 👍
Wet Belts are a crime. I used to work at an Opel Dealership and like every 3rd car had trouble with them expanding. Good for the owners: there was a recall for them ;)
But why when dry belts are tried and trusted and a doddle to change, if you want it running in oil put a bloody chain on it. Modern design by child engineers.......
not to mention the state of the accessory belt. Long overdue in maintenance I guess. It also looked like there wasn't much oil in there either. They hold somewhat over 3L,

I was told recently that Stelansis / PSA etc are now covering the wet for life so long as the car is serviced by the main dealers . Prior to this update it was for 10 years . I change the oil / filter mid term between services as de-graded oil seems to contribute to degradation of the belt. Expensive but hoping to avoid early issues .We have the 2022 Vauxhall Grandland . Needs to be the 0w 20 B71 2010 spec oil otherwise they will want to charge you.
As cam belt changes go it doesn't look to hard. You have to wonder though with all that cr*p in the strainer just how much oil starvation it has suffered. Would anyone want to own a car like that ?
I am sure this will be invaluable to anyone having to do this job for the first time. I am surprised you put the same fanbelt back on which looked to be in poor condition !!
Thanks for your feedback. A new aux belt wasn't available at the time of filming so for demonstration purposes the old belt was temporarily re fitted. New belt fitted before vehicle left the workshop. 👍
You need to torque the crankshaft 50nM + 180 degrees. Also the belt guider needs tensioned at 20. Also note after an dilluted motor you need to flush the engine first
@@nerroworks7562 If you change the oil, you change the oil filter as well. It's the fuel that gets inside the oil over time and destroys the belt. When the belt shows signs of disolve it's already too late you have to change it and clean everything. Take off the oil pan etc. Disaster! Dunno what drunk engineer thought it would be a good idea to put a belt into oil.
9@Lightmaker5 That's the million dollar question that should be asked of PSV. Upon what theory was that design accepted and was there any dissent voices from within R&D ? How should the customer trust ever this manufacturer if they can bring in such blatantly wacky innovation. Or is there a positive side to the design that negates the very obvious drawback. Or was it simply built in to fail?
Cool down, the new belts are ok, provided the oil changes are done at about 10k km max, always via the drain plug at the oil sump. The oil sump, unfortunately, needs to be removed for inspections and cleaning of the enclosed components, no matter what, with every belt change.

This engine is toasted, it worked with low oil pressure for thousend of miles, high oil consumption for liners beeing worn. The only way to make this engine to last is changing oil at no more than 5000km SINCE NEW and instal the revised belt.
According to the Millers Oil website, Manufacturers make timing belts from rubber or an elastomer such as nitrile, neoprene, or polyurethane, and they include reinforcing cords to control the belt tension. They also tend to have an oil resistant coating to improve durability.
Bad as it is, at least the oil pump has a chain drive, unlike the Ford Eco Boost (Boom) engines, Ford replaced the wet belt drive to chain drive for the cams during 2021, but they have not done the same for the oil pump drive, which is still a fall apart rubber belt drive, beggars belief, nice video very through 😊
Great video, is the new timing belt an upgraded design over the original? My freind had a golf R and his oil pickup looked like that but it was carbon not rubber belt debris,. I would be flushing the oil system to remove rubber debris and around the belt area itself but thats just me.
Trying to do this on my parents car currently. 2016 and the sump looks so much worse in condition. It’s practically seized on and I can’t get it off at all. At a loss here because it needs to be done ASAP but a new sump is £200 from main dealer
Great video thanks, but why didn't you chock the rear wheels and leave a raised jack under the cross member for extra safety? I would have flushed the engine before refilling with oil.
I'd not trust engine flushes with wet belts. I did 2 almost back to back flushes on my mates C3 Aircross, but only in the knowledge the belt was being changed 2 days after the 2nd flush. Who knows what long term effect the solvents in a can of flush, have on wet timing belts?
As I posted earlier that Stelantsis will cover the belt for life so long as the car is serviced by the dealer so if you change the belt for a aftermarket unproven chain they won't want to know. You can buy a measuring gauge to check for easy signs of swelling which is a pre cursor to failing for about £6 which I think is worth having . Lets face it all cars with belts need then changing but these might be slightly earlier than dry belts . Again good clean oil changes seem to help. All of the videos usually show very poor oil in the sump. I change mine every 4K as I prefer not dealing with dealers with poor customer service which are most I am afraid to say. I owned a BMW motorcycle dealership for almost 30 years so I understand what customer service should be but thin on the ground these days .

Agree the designers should be named and shamed for this crime to motor engineering.
