    When I first opened a repair shop in 1990 I specialized in Volvo repair. Our first flyer offered a timing belt special on the B230 4 cylinder engines for $49.95 parts and labor! Back then a basic timing belt replacement on that engine took about 30 minutes. A big change from the $1000 and up 1/2 day jobs for timing belt repairs on newer VVT engines at the end of my career in 2023.

    Home "mechanic" here, I've never done a timing belt before, always feared them, until I got my most recent car, 2009 Zafira 1.6, the belt on that is incredibly easy to change and of course, from your recommendations, it's fitted with an INA kit ;)

    Great video, as always. The newer K9K euro 6b or c engine has a water-cooled intercooler in the j11 Qashqai and the bracket for it is in the way where the crack pin goes in so you need to have a longer pin or one with a 1/4inch hole to fit a extension 👌 great Renault design there 😀

    • @richards4456
      @richards4456 2 місяці тому

      Correct. Fairly sure the laser timing tool doesn't have the 1/4 inch hole. I ended up buying the genuine timing tool to do this on a MK5 Clio dci as it has the water/air intercooler.

    • @we-are-electric1445
      @we-are-electric1445 2 місяці тому +2

      @@NotALot-xm6gz Wouldn't call it bomb proof but with regular servicing it may not be far off. A lot are lost to cam belt failures because in some vehicles it is an awkward job and so expensive so people leave it then blame the engine when the 10 year old (or older) cam belt fails, takes out the engine and effectively writes off the vehicle. Renault not putting a Woodruff key on the crank until June 2006 was a stupid (deliberate ? ) oversight which didn't help.
