    Back in the day it used to be a good thing how you'd have to rev an engine hard to go fast, now people see it as a bad thing.

      Yeah definitely - I wonder does Plato understand the whole concept of the 86 series, going back to the AE86. You had to rev that car hard, and so it is with the newer model = happy days.

  • @kribar96

    Stop complaining about the engine, please. It's a very effective engine when you look at the numbers. It makes 200 hp out of 2liters with no turbos and still has great milage and relibility. Sure a bigger 4-5liter v8 or something makes more power, but has worse fuel economy and makes less power per liter compared to this engine.

    • @AndySo2000
      @AndySo2000 6 років тому +24

      That's true, once you drive one for a month you realize why it's got a 2 liter at 200 hp engine. The car is heavily designed and that made it that way for a reason. It wasn't a mistake, they were designing a drift car not a muscle car, it had to be affordable and if they put a v8 in it, it would be really heavy and gas guzzler. The market for that car is small, and toyota isn't stupid, so they had to get every detail right. I think it's too fast imo, not that I want it to be slower, I'm a FRS owner and I have zero complaints about the horse power. Even though I was skeptical at first, however my opinion on that changed for the positive once I test drove a manual. I will say that I've test driven the automatic and it's boring. Get the manual if you're shopping for one.

      @@AndySo2000 If they ironed out that torque dip it'd be a much more livable car though. Guarantee a majority of owners want a more linear torque band, hence why so many spend the money on unequal length headers, catback exhausts, pod filters, open flash tablet tunes. I think if you don't live in the city it's less noticeable - it's never an issue when I leave the CBD in my 86 but where I spend most of my time, the lack of power is frustrating to say the least.

      I hear you, saying it's slow is just annoying at this point. People who think they know about this car just say that to act like they're in the know. I own a FRS and I love it, I had low expectations going in. The car is designed the way it is for a reason. I love it personally I'm very impressed with it all around. There's a reason why there's literally thousands of videos for it, I still haven't gone through them all. Not many cars can say that. The after market support is pretty intense too even though I'm keeping my stock.

    • @NishikoRyuu
      @NishikoRyuu 8 років тому +3

      I drive an E46 330i sedan, but would opt for a GT86 if I could afford one right now :p
      I know it's less powerful, but the e46 is just, well, boring. It feels heavy and unspectacular, even though the straight line performance can be fun sometimes. Go for a M3 if you want to make the choice a bit harder :D (though I personally would still go for a GT86, simply because it's newer and I love the concept)

    • @nickamarit
      @nickamarit 8 років тому +2

      I test drove a GT86 before, and everything was good except for the rear seats; they don't fit humans - not even children because there is basically no legroom at all. Crazy!
      I drive a E46 318i, so I can kind of guesstimate what a 330i would feel like. I think the E46 (whichever trim, even mine) is, overall, a more refined car than the GT86 even though it is about 15 years older than the GT86. Handling-wise, the GT86 feels better and more nimble, but I don't think E46's handle too badly (if you align your wheels in a way that eliminates that horrendous stock understeer).
      Switching traction control totally off on the E46 is also much simpler - press and hold for 5 seconds; whereas the GT86 requires a ritualistic "pedal dance".
      The only downside to the E46 is that it doesn't come with an LSD, and M3 LSD's require a full rear subframe transplant to work. And ordering an LSD is not cheap. But the GT86 comes fitted with a TorSen LSD!!!

      Nick Amarit You don't need a pedal dance, you just need to hold the traction off button for 5 seconds just like the BMW. IIRC the only thing the pedal dance does is disable ABS which you should never really need or want to do. As far as drifting goes, the 5 second hold is all you need.

      @nunyabusiness896 6 років тому +5

      Yeah, the Cayman or Z4 are great if you can keep them out of the shop long enough to drive them. The GT86 is the most reliable car in both Subaru and Toyota's lineups, it's a car you can drive the hell out of while getting 30 mpg and pick up some groceries on the way home. You're delusional if you think the cost of ownership is lower with a Cayman or Z4, the maintenance on those is insane, that's why they've depreciated so much in the first place. Meanwhile, the 86 family maintains its value very well because they're somewhat rare and highly desirable for racing and drifting. I don't know if you'll ever see an 86 selling for less than $10k without serious issues like accidents or flooding or something (or insanely high mileage).
