Have you ever wondered how to drill out a locked door handle? We are not James Bond or MacGyver but when a resident has lost their keys or decided to change their lock without our knowledge it does leave us with an opportunity to test out what you see in the movies. There is a method as explained in the video. You must position your drill precisely where the pins and springs are located and using varying size drill bits carve out a hole big enough for the pins to release. This allows the cylinder to rotate freely and thus rendering the lock... picked.

Thank you... wind blew my door shut in my garage, locking me out. After calling 8 or 9 locksmiths and getting an average quote of $150 ... I looked up at Home Depot, the cost of a doornob... realized I would save about $110 by just drilling it... was in in just minutes... bought and installed the nob the same day... thank you for the video

It WORKED!!!!! I had put an exterior lock on my bedroom.door months ago. Last night was my night to close the door by mistake. My cell phone, all my keys and my wallet were all in that room. 15 minutes after watching this video several times and breaking my 1/4 in bit, I got in. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

I drilled the pilot hole just like you showed and the core popped out. Then I shook the core to get the pins out, put it back into the opening and was able to turn it with a different key. I didn’t even need to drill the bigger hole. Your video saved me a lot of time as any other option would have taken longer.

Honestly for a simple lock and door like that, get a thin piece of plastic (cut it out of a plastic bottle, rectangle about 5x8 centimetres) and slide it into the space between the door and the frame beside the lock. Wiggle for a bit to get it under the catch but the door will swing right open. Faster, easier, and you don’t need to buy a new lock 🤷‍♂️

There is a faster way to open that lock if you no longer want the hardware. Take a large pair of channel locks and turn the knob until it snaps off. Then you can reach inside the mechanism and pull back the door latch.

I just used a 15/64 drill bit (slight smaller than a 1/4, only because I could not find one) and an impact drill. I put it right into the key lock. At first it bound up, so i started the drill full speed and hit it. Took less than 20 seconds and the entire key hole spun around. Took the drill out and it was open.
What scared me the most is how fast it was to really open a lock. So much for security...
