"The Light must be given, not taken" also explains why the Traveller killed Ghaul when he stole the Light at the end of The Red War. The Traveller seems to directly intervene when the Light is potentially taken.
That's........actually a really solid theory. That would explain why the traveler didn't intervene until the very end of the Red War. Until Ghaul took the light by force.
Yeah agreed, as the antithesis of the sword logic, I think it believes in the continued existence and multiplication of all life forever, always changing.
@@seanslaysean7097 Bomb Logic also explains why the Traveler didn't take the light away from Savathun now that her plan was revealed. The traveler can't take away the light because the light can't be taken.
The traveler is a silent god, and it only speaks when one dares steal its power. Even though we didn’t hear the words, I imagine ghaul experienced a similar thing that rhulk did.
He did say "I do see you" before the Traveler merc'd him. I personally always assumed the Traveler said something to him as it awoke and broke free of the Cage
Radiant Accipiter lore tab: Freedom is a chain. Choice is a prison. You see him, and all he wishes for is confirmation of that fact. But to do so would invoke something far worse than justification. In one last act of defiance you break your shackles, exerting the strength you had been slowly gathering all this time. Physical chains break, but chains of causality are not so fragile, even for you. You see him and he is satisfied. Then, he is gone. Your roar of defiance echoes into the infinite. You know they will witness. It is only a matter of time.
If the Traveler truly spoke to Rhulk through that Ghost, I think this is groundbreaking. The Traveler is still one of the most mysterious beings in Destiny and this could help us know the Traveler more as a character.
@@Balaxy1 I really like that idea. Imagine if our traveler is empty, and the gardener is waiting in some alternate dimension (like the opposite of wherever the upended sends planets) watching over a handful of "travelers" in the universe waiting to bait out the witness. So in lightfall, our traveller gets blown apart, and then the gardener actually shows up and that's how we move into "the final shape". That would be pretty sick
I would have so many questions to ask the Traveler, not all of them being friendly BTW: What are you? Did your conflict with the Darkness truly, as it claims, spawn the literal universe in being? Why did you create GHOSTS? Why didn't you do it sooner, before the WITNESS showed up nearly wiped out all of humanity? Why didnt you intervene more often, when countless souls have been lost in this conflict that YOU started? Why are we still here, just to suffer?! Why did you abandon so many civilizations to their doom at the hands of the Black Fleet?! You wouldn't bring Cayde back, but you bring fucking SAVATHUN, THE WITCH QUEEN, BACK TO LIFE?! WHY, AFTER EONS OF THEM SLAUGHTERING ALL IN THEIR WAY, THE LOSS OF COUNTLESS BILLIONS OF SOULS, WOULD YOU GIVE THE ENEMY OF YOUR LOGIC, YOUR OWN WEAPON?!
i think we will go inside the traveler ball one day and clap some cheeks in a raid in a light fall rhulk hints at it in the raid when he says the Witness sees us in a Light fall free of our chains (im asuming our connection to the traveler)
Fun detail about Collective Obligation is that it kinda gets more potent the more people using it, allows a fireteam to continuously chain all three debuffs, really emphasizes the "collective"
Yeah cause that means savathun wasn't the only one that the traveler deemed worthy but all the hive guardians and that them being able to wield the light wasn't from savathun forcing the ghosts to choose them but the the traveler deeming them worthy
@@rocablade6908 That's not necessarily true. It's entirely possible that the Traveler only views the Disciples as the only ones beyond redemption (pretty reasonable all things considered), and that Ghosts still need to be the ones who need to choose. Sort of like the Traveler has only one underlying criteria of "you can not choose a Disciple, otherwise do what you think is best" It does raise a good point though, this seems to support the Traveler and the Ghosts are much more connected than previously suspected.
We finally understand why the Witness was corrupting Guardians in season of Arrivals. Not to kill us all, but to convert them to its side. It wasn’t the Darkness that was responsible, rather it’s agent.
Only thing I disagree with here is that you made it sound like many other raids aren’t tied to the main narrative. Crota was a direct threat to humanity while on the Moon so we killed him. Killing him caused Oryx to come which the event of Oryx coming helped rebuild relations with Mara Sov. Mara helping us caused Riven to be taken and caused Uldren to descend into madness. Oryx never coming to invade means the Dreaming City is never taken and most of Destiny 2 doesn’t happen. So at least to me I’ve always felt like most raids are important to the main narrative. Even if the narrative has shifted those raids are part of the reason the narrative is able to shift.
To me, this just doubles down on the Traveler intentionally giving the light to the Hive. As here we are shown evidence of the Traveler choosing to actively prevent someone from being granted it. Not that we needed anymore confirmation, but it shows that the Traveler is making these decisions with agency.
The hive have been indoctrinated into believing in the the sword logic over a long long time. If the Traveller is all about second chances then this would be a massive cultural shift for them. If the Traveller sees potential in the hive then so should we. It would be truly amazing if at some point in the future we were able to select Eliksni, Cabal/Psion or Hive during our character creation. Not sure how that would work with things like fitting through tight spaces and PVP, but I can hope
I’m not sure what to believe yet but I feel like the ghosts have more say in who can get the light. We saw the Traveler ignore Savathun before she died then a ghost came up to her and resurrected her. But when Ghaul forced light into himself the Traveler stepped in real quick and shut that down. The ghosts could realistically resurrect whoever they wanted as long as they were dead. We even see that ghosts have enough free will to choose a completely different race to resurrected and choose to not resurrect a guardian they’re already paired with.
@@alter6243 Except obviously, the traveler won't allow a race it hasn't deemed 'available' to be rezed. As shown with rhulk. It never might have been free will from the ghosts when the traveler has clearly always intended for the light to go to the hive, since it seems to have visited fundement with the intention to give it to them and the witness just tricked them first. Can't be given the light when you're alive and hive are functionally just as paracasually immortal as we are at a certain point so until they were able to cast aside their worms, it just wasn't an option for them because they couldn't 'die.' They couldn't sacrifice. I wouldn't even call it ignoring her as she 'died'. The ghost arriving within the time after she died, could have been its response.
@@shadows_star I meant to add as well that because the Traveler had chosen the Hive in the past, the ghost could have the ability to resurrect them even if it’s been thousands of years. Eliksni could also fall into this category. You may be right, it’s Savathun’s dialog that makes me question whether it truly was ignoring her or not. Her choice of words was very odd to me.
@@alter6243 it's bcuz she did not know how the traveler functioned, all she knows is she wanted it's power but she did not know she had to die to get said power at least that's my take on the whole thing
the one thing that stands out to me is Rhulk, almost exactly like Ghaul, states his worth and demands the light. and just like with Ghaul it was one of the times the Traveler intervened.
Rhulk referring to the Traveler as “imperious sun” reinforces my growing theory that all the “blue suns” around these worlds in the lore are actually Traveler-like entities. It makes a lot of those stories make more sense imo, especially if our Traveler is the only “ship” of its kind left.
This makes sense, a good example of this theory is when Rhulk is speaking in the raid about Lubrae’s fate, the “Blue” from which they drew their “power” and how a simple reversal of that “power” cracked the Blue in half. This is pretty telling, provided it wasn’t an overzealous description, as stars aren’t composed of solid matter, and therefore cannot ‘crack’ in the conventional sense. Not so for the Traveller, as we witnessed this happen at the end of the red war.
Oh? The Voice in the Light? "Why is that you are able to weild Light and Dark, while the rest of us are consigned to one?" -Savathûn to The Guardian. Something tells me the answer to that may change everything.
WERE the final form that the witness and rhulk are seeking we inadvertently live by the sword logic because we kill everything in our path and make their powers ours
I think in part the reason Guardians can use both is because of some interesting circumstances. The Awoken for example were reborn into a world born of the clash of Light and Darkness. The Exo were born from the Darkness-imbued Clarity and the Alkahest, while retaining still retaining most their humanity (and spark). And baseline Humans? Many drowned in the Deep, during the Collapse. Yet when the Traveller pushed the Black Fleet back, it brought back the Light. I think all three of the human variants all have been touched by the Light and Darkness enough to be able wield both. Especially the Awoken.
Honestly that doesn't sound too far fetched. When Savathun got Immaru it already had a hive ghost shell, as we see in the cutscene when she is revived, and not only did it have a hive ghost shell but it's shell is slightly larger than any other hive ghost shell like it was made specifically to bond with the Witch Queen and not any other random hive.
I hope that Byf covers the lore tab from the Fundament Ghost shell, which possibly gives a clue about what Savathun did during the Collapse, which her worm talks about in the Parasite quest.
TL;DR: Savathun might have gone to Pre-Collapse Earth and told a guy to go to where the Last City would be, while singing a song to bring a “last star,” likely the Traveler, to Earth, so that he can save his family. All in exchange for his bloodline owing her a debt, which has yet to be paid.
I believe that the traveler has done something like this before when Ghaul tried to steal the light the traveller literally blew up in an explosion that reached outside the universe and now since the traveller is awake it is able to control ghosts just like the darkness. Just a thought
It’s crazy how much Bungie could truly do with the potential of the mystery behind the traveller. Definitely know I’m not the only one that got chills from reading this. I’m excited to see where this story goes! It’s never been better!
I'm convinced that it is the Traveler speaking through the ghost. And I think I just got confirmation to another thought. I think the Traveler did, in fact, allow the ghosts to go to Savathun and the Lucent Brood. I don't think Savathun stole the Light. I think it was offered to her.
this raid is the most "Happening in real time" light and darkness saga where we have a direct interaction with the Darkness and the Witness in all of destiny as a whole. It should be entirely catalogued and documented in a way that all people who in the future, who wish to know how it started, should be able to understand throughout all the lore tabs, I think your storytelling and explanations would be the perfect vehicle for that information to all who wish to learn. I truly believe someone should, And if it should be someone, It should absolutely be you, Byf.
I'd have to say that was most likely the Traveler. What a gripping video! Great work Byf! Also, yes a larger video for the raid lore would be amazing provided it's not too exhaustive of a project for you.
For this entity to call him adversary, I imagine a more direct combat. Of course, the light battles Rhulk and the Dark Fleet directly in many instances, but what if there's another Light Leviathan, and what if the Leviathan that Rhulk injured and the Hive killed came back? Since, you know, he's a harbinger of Light. A lot of possibilities and speculations, this is awesome!!!
I do think there is (or at least was) another Leviathan placed into the seas of Titan, but I'm pretty sure this was the Traveler itself speaking (or rather the Entity within ie the Gardener)
@@jubbajules AY YOOO HAHAHAHAHAH Thanks for that! Although Ahsa isn't exactly the old Light Leviathan, she is still an old enemy of the Witness, so yeah, I guess we coukd say we got it right.
Nah, That’s the reason why Rhulk didn’t fire the glaive at us. The reason why he didn’t use it would be that his inventory was locked since his raid began.
Fun fact as you charge void leech, the gun slowly becomes covered in some kind of black ooze and one of the ways you know the gun is charged is that the corruption has completely overtaken the gun
What's ironic is that rhulk believes (and this is an asumption from what lore I've seen so far) he has achieved some sort of enlightenment from the witness, purely because he believes what he achieved in service to the witness. but in reality, rhulk is nothing more than a conqueror and a tyrant like ghaul was, they could never truly take the the light and become guardians.
It would be very interesting story-wsie if Rhulk somehow got revived in the light. I wonder how the Witness would react to him being a light-bearer. I also question why the Traveler doesn't revive the Darkness' biggest players that the guardians have killed, like Rhulk or Oryx, as a big F-You to the Witness.
Byf you were killing it with the Rulk Voice, I would pay money to be able to listen to you narrate all of the lore (and I mean ALL of it) like an audio book. That would be cool
byf, i must say, your understanding of sociology and things like sociology is an extremely refreshing element of your analyses, across all your videos.
An interesting consequence of the voice being the Traveller is that Savathun and the hive truly did earn the light, it was never stolen. I know it was already basically confirmed from the campaign, but I feel as though this lore guarantees that Savathun and the hive earned the light.
This has ramifications for the Lucent Hive. as this means the Traveler GAVE them their ghosts and the light, while it denied the same to Rhulk. Is there another redemption story arc coming for the hive? We've seen it for the Cabal and the Fallen... One has to wonder where this is leading in the story line.
Not only that people been making theories how Savathun tricked the traveler or made/resurrect a ghost, but that sentence Rhulk said, "it can't be taken only given" the sword logic is all about taking which means no matter how much savathun used, her cunning, her trickery, necromancy or whatever, she HAD to play by the traveler's rules because if she didn't she'd be trying to take the light and ghaul was the example of DONT. TAKE. THE. LIGHT.
@@Nephi-lily in the cut scene where she died she became a supplicant before the traveler and it blessed her with a ghost and resurrection. But the question remains if she comes back after we killed her... can she be trusted?
@@hammer9856 Savathun is a coin flip, but her lucent brood in the lucent tales show they're just like us when the dark ages happened that honestly I feel pity because one of them didn't even want to be resurrected to begin with and wanted to die and the other didn't want to kill a lightbier even if they were enemies (sounds familiar), even shows the ghost are more a-hole than the user, so I can see more her brood joining, but the traveler wouldn't have saved Immaru before leaving if it didn't trust Savathun especially after her saving it from the ships back from the collapse.
I’ve been anxiously waiting for the ghost shell lore to be mentioned. I’m totally sold on it being the traveller and it’s going to get a lot more active as time goes on I think
BUMP. I have never been more invested in the story and lore despite being an avid player since the beginning. I really appreciate the constant content, I’m on the edge of my seat! Thank you byf!
I feel compelled to point out that the specific phrasing "this one is not for you," while indicating someone else is speaking through the Ghost, could also be interpreted to mean "this specific Ghost isn't for you." While I think it very unlikely a one-off raid boss (and I acknowledge that is extremely discounting the way Rhulk rewrote our understanding of Destiny's story) could be resurrected similarly to Savathun as a wielder of the Light... there's actually enough wiggle room in the phrasing to suggest it is a possibility.
IT. SPEAKS!! THE TRAVELLER FINALLY SPEAKS!! And such a monumental moment.... Is in a lore card.... For a ghost... From a raid.... Unlocked via a tedious series of daily tasks... I hope everyone who cares about lore finds their way here to see this moment happened. I seriously believe it was the Traveller. It's tone echos the aggressive rebuke we saw it hit Ghaul with Im the vanilla campaign ending and add that to what else we know, the signs definitely seem to be there
The Darkness/Witness has spoken through our Ghost on multiple ocassions in Shadowkeep and Beyond Light. I think it's very plausible then that the Traveler spoke through this ghost to Rhulk
At this point we’ve realized that the Darkness is a primal, paracausal force of nature. What we should fear is not the dark itself, but what is within it: the witness. We’ve come to realize that the true enemy is the one many speculated: an armada, yes. An invading force that aims to destroy the Traveler, yes. A singular entity that is not the Winnower but rather carries out its will, yes. It being a corrupting force to entice us, yes. Darkness does not corrupt us, it was most likely the Witness’s whispers during season of Arrivals that corrupted Guardians. Many theories by other characters have been proven true, they were all correct. But they may have all been wrong about the Witness’s goal: it’s not to simply destroy us and kill us all in a flurry of carnage and annihilation. But rather to convert many, and kill off those few that defy it. Taking our worlds to possibly transform them into a simpler “shape”.
As a counter point however: if the unveiling lore book is both from the darkness and true the darkness is definitely way more than a force of nature. It’s just less complicated than the traveler
I assume the final shape to basically be less complex than that of civilization and harmony between civilizations, simply the strong survive while the weak die out or serve the strong. It would make sense if that happened all the time, everything just falling in line under one banner, over and over again, causing the Gardener to become bored with that, and causing them to want to promote something else. If that's the end goal, then you can certainly call that a shape, because it's an ending that fits in the mold of what happened prior.
I like to think that Rhulk is a good example of what is to come. He was the last Lubrean. He was the final shape of the Lubreans. So take that and place it over each race. The Hive unfortunately I wouldn't count as they are a mass produced tool of genocide.
With the reference at the end of the campaign to the Traveler's "Heart" I believe that wasn't the traveler speaking: rather, similar to how the black fleet has its solitary Witness, I think there is an entity at the center of the Traveler who determines who gets the light through a strict set of requirements ( Bravery - Devotion - Sacrifice - Death.) One of the major reveals of Light Fall I would guess is going to be the discovery of who or what is at the heart of the Traveler. And whoever they are, they seem to finally be awake.
@H4XE7 REAC7 I don't think the witness would belong to any one species, as it has been stated that it (either the darkness or the witness) is formless. Myself, I think the entity inside the traveler would be something complex, like a sentient machine.
This implies Ghaul only took the Light because the Traveler allowed him to. It then follows that it destroyed him after he was defeated because it had run the numbers and decided Human Guardians were it's best bet. If that's true... Savathûn was right. The Traveler only seeks its continued existence and capable protectors.
I've always seen Ghaul's situation as the first proof that the light can't be taken. He had the traveler caged up while using the light, and once it broke free he was straight up melted into nothingness. The fact that we had to fight him wielding the light came down to the timing of it all rather than him being given it imo
Not really. My take is that the Traveller in D1 and Up to the end of Vanilla D2 was asleep. Meaning It was barely active. When Red legion chained It It was basically in a coma/asleep, could not react. It was barely conscious and send some Visions to the speaker and to us After we defeat Ghaul, the Traveller finally wakes Up and shatters its Shell to destroy the Cage and Ghaul. (You defeated Ghaul, woke Up the Traveller...) After D2 the Traveller would be awake but damaged, which heals by season of Arrivals. So the Traveller didnt allow Ghaul to get the light, It took It forcefully and for itself, so the Traveller vaporized him as soon as It woke up
The Traveler, as someone pointed out, only intervenes directly when the Light is directly stolen. The Traveler killed Ghaul because of this. Meanwhile Savathun earned the Light, and it was *Given* to her, not *Taken.*
To my knowledge, the darkness has communicated through our ghost, but not the Witness. This might not have been the Traveler talking, but the light speaking.
Theory: the “too bright” referring to the ghost at the end of the lore entry is seen when Gaul says “I do see you.” Staring at the traveler before it exploded with light. The thing that controls the ghosts and is inside the traveler has shut down it’s enemy from taking the light immediately twice now.
I think you've forgotten that this isn't the first time the traveler spoke to us, the first time was on Io during the Forsaken subclass mission. But still the fact that it destroyed a Ghost immediately after it came in contact with Rhulk shows us again that it has the capability to do something when ever it deems something worthy to intervene.
"this one"... this makes me worry for what is to come. this one phrase in the travelers speach is what makes me worry the most out of this Edit: also to note is this is the only time we know that when someone was messing with ghosts that the traveler interfered. that could tell us that any other time was allowed or a more worrying idea is the traveler NEEDED to interfere then.
Excellent video as always Byf! I read the Imperious Sun's lore-tab as a sort of narration to a disection; certain lines point to Rhulk essentially vivisecting the ghost in question. When the ghost says "don't remove that, I like the expressiveness it lends me", it could be in reference to the ghosts ignorance but I personally interpreted it as Rhulk removing the ghost's shell, exposing it's inner workings. This seems to make more sense, as ghosts seem to share a certain inherent curiosity to explore and learn; desiring to remain ignorant doesn't seem like something a ghost would choose. Furthermore, the ghost seems physically restrained by repeating its desire to leave, rather than actually physically leaving. Rhulk also refers to the ghost as a "Leviathan under glass", giving an analogy towards a lab specimen pinned under a microscope slide. This also makes me think that when Rhulk discusses the "filament of light", he is talking about an actual physical filament within the ghost which he then tries to forcibly take, leading to the intervention of the Traveler. Very interesting stuff! I'm very glad you decided to cover this!
Yeah. This all makes sense, especially since Rhulk seems to have been doing experiments of disection and unmaking in most of his lore pages and also evidence of this being the fusion of scorn and worms and the Hive Worm parts suspended in glass in the pyramid.
This makes me wonder about that raid wall with the "Witness will commune with the Traveler". Does that mean the Traveler will willingly give the light to the Witness?
This speaks to a larger issue. If it was the Traveler speaking, then it’s impossible to say that Savathun getting the Light was an accident/mistake. It knows what it’s doing. And it indirectly confirms the notion that the Traveler really was ready and willing to abandon us for the safety Savathun provided.
I predict that over the next few seasons we're going to see the traveler interact with us more and more. Maybe give answers as to why the hive were gifted with the light. And maybe, just maybe, towards the end of this year before going into Lightfall, we'll see the entity behind the light.
But we all but have the answer of why. It believes in second chances...and that the trickery of the witness and the forcing of the worms, took their first chance away when it arrived on fundement.
@@shadows_star it's exactly why I share Crow's sympathy towards the Lucent Brood (and especially Savathûn). The Sky is the philosophy of second chances, that even a horrific monster like the late Uldren Sov can change and become a good person or heck even our own Guardian, for all we know we could have been a brutal dictator in our original life
I actually find the idea that a Ghost just blows up spectacularly in front of Rhulk. Like, all I got is a freeze-frame painted in my head of him just getting absolutely flash-banged at point blank by (basically) god.
Throwing shade at Graviton Lance at the beginning of the video D: It's a good gun bruh Edit: If it's true the Traveler was talking to Rhulk, maybe the Speaker was lying when he told Ghaul the Traveler never spoke to him?
From reading around in here, it sounds more like the phrase "this one" is analogous to he/she/it. Or how some beings in sci-fi refer to themselves as "this one", like the Pandronians of Star Trek.
The raid lore and specifically Rhulk's lore has me absolutely fascinated. The more I read and learn about him (most of it thanks to your videos!) the more I wish he wasn't truly gone, because he's a fascinating character and, I'm sure we'll get to meet other Disciples of the Witness, but I wish we got more of Rhulk, and I wish he played a part in the future. Maybe he will, somehow. About the Ghost lore: I got chills! I also think that must have been the Traveler. What an awesome piece of lore. And of course, I say yes to a cinematic video telling everything that happens in the Raid!
I completely agree with you that Rhulk should come back in the future. He's such an interesting character and his lore is one of the best Bungie has written. I don't know how he could come back other than being revived as a light-bearer or he somehow cheated death.
@@gcarlini03 Definitely, his lore is some of the best we've had in the game so far, and it's impressive considering he's "just" a raid boss, but I'm glad they connected his story to the main story of the game. Rhulk is very relevant and I'm sure they could find a way to bring him back that fits the narrative. Seeing how the Traveler was very adamant in negating him the Light, I don't think he could come back as a light-bearer, but I could see the Witness intervening and saving his life once more, because Rhulk is useful to them.
@@greeneons I completely agree with you about the Traveler being adamant in negating him the light, but part of me really wants him to come back as a light-bearer since the light makes one forget their past self. He could start with a fresh slate, similar to Crow, but the Traveler probably sees too much risk in giving him the light.
I wouldn't say that he may never be blessed by the light, those weren't the traveler's words, what it was saying was that he wouldn't be able to gain access to that ghost's light by force. It is always possible if the writers so chose that a ghost may one day choose Rhulk as a champion of the light after scrubbing his memory.
If it is true that the traveler spoke through the ghost and denied rhulk the light, then that even more confirms that all of the hive were blessed with the light under the traveler's will. It also makes sense to me, as it seems like the light as a whole is "The power without", and the darkness is "The power within".
I would like that video of the raid yes. I think it was The Traveler. He rejected Rhulk, in such a direct way. Im still in shock "I have worth beyond worth" That is such a Rhulk line to say. He believes woth and capable of using Light and Darkness PD: Good! I was wondering how to take care of my Travelers
If that is the voice of the Traveler, my first question was if it was spoken in real time or a prerecorded message and self destruct sequence. Like if certain parameters were met then the ghost self destructs in retaliation. But the fact that it addressed Rhulk directly as a disciple of darkness and he reacted in a surprised manner at the voice means that all the previous ghosts didn't have the same message said before blowing up. What a cool event if that is the Traveler!
Hey I think we are actually going to get Rhulk on our side bc the traveler said “this ONE is not for you” but actually probably not. Would be cool tho, he’s still technically alive as the tree thing I think. Maybe
So the ghost was very confused, and oblivious about, well… everything, and even referred to itself as being “new.” This suggests that the Traveler is still making new ghosts, which is very interesting.
I think a full lore raid like you did with last wish and garden would be really cool, like breaking down any lore and questions with a team while you do the raid
I just would like to note that IF that is the traveler speaking he DOES NOT totally refuses Rhulk. In fact he just states "THIS ONE is not for you" and, if it means the ghost, gramatically speaking it does not refers to the light as a power but just to the ghost. Considering he's dead, he did not obtain the Light but written as it is it was possible.
We HAVE seen the Traveler deny one who sought to seek the Light before, in a blast of brilliance. Ghaul. Assuming the Traveler was truly asleep until that moment when it broke free from the cage, waking up to seeing theft, or becoming aware of it, Ghaul is the first we saw forcefully rebuked by the Light.
This says a lot about Savathun getting the light as well. Yeah, there is still a lot of mystery behind that, BUT, if the Traveler has enough awareness of its ghosts to outright refuse Rhulk, then there has to have been some reasoning behind it blessing Savathun with the light beyond what we know already

I would have so many questions to ask the Traveler, not all of them being friendly BTW:
What are you?
WHY, AFTER EONS OF THEM SLAUGHTERING ALL IN THEIR WAY, THE LOSS OF COUNTLESS BILLIONS OF SOULS, WOULD YOU GIVE THE ENEMY OF YOUR LOGIC, YOUR OWN WEAPON?!
i think we will go inside the traveler ball one day and clap some cheeks in a raid in a light fall
rhulk hints at it in the raid when he says the Witness sees us in a Light fall free of our chains (im asuming our connection to the traveler)
Fun detail about Collective Obligation is that it kinda gets more potent the more people using it, allows a fireteam to continuously chain all three debuffs, really emphasizes the "collective"
Really emphasizes the *Collective* Obligation
I legit got chills reading this piece of lore, the part were presumably the traveler spoke is honestly groundbreaking
Yeah cause that means savathun wasn't the only one that the traveler deemed worthy but all the hive guardians and that them being able to wield the light wasn't from savathun forcing the ghosts to choose them but the the traveler deeming them worthy
@@rocablade6908 That's not the point really, but ok.
@@rocablade6908 That's not necessarily true. It's entirely possible that the Traveler only views the Disciples as the only ones beyond redemption (pretty reasonable all things considered), and that Ghosts still need to be the ones who need to choose. Sort of like the Traveler has only one underlying criteria of "you can not choose a Disciple, otherwise do what you think is best"
It does raise a good point though, this seems to support the Traveler and the Ghosts are much more connected than previously suspected.

@@fightingforlife1211 The point of the campaign, yes. But not the point of the Ghost shells lore tab.
Raid lore is so dope, and it’s so good that it’s finally being tied into the main narrative more
We finally understand why the Witness was corrupting Guardians in season of Arrivals.
@@alter6243 he’s talking about the destiny 2 raids, most of them (not all) have very little to do with the main overall narrative, until now.
A complete gameplay and cinematic walkthrough of the raid would be nice. Yes please!
Hell yeah would be dope knowing how Good the raid lore is
I would love for a raid lore walk through. I always wanted people to tell a story of the raids
Holy shit I never thought about it this way, that's a wild idea.
Oh? The Voice in the Light?
"Why is that you are able to weild Light and Dark, while the rest of us are consigned to one?" -Savathûn to The Guardian.
Something tells me the answer to that may change everything.
Probably ties into the popular theory that ‘The Final Shape’ is us. Able to wield Light and Darkness in perfect balance.
WERE the final form that the witness and rhulk are seeking we inadvertently live by the sword logic because we kill everything in our path and make their powers ours
when was this said?
@@crimsondrawingsOne of the Sect of Insight Missions in the Throne World.
The ghost said “THIS one is not for you”. Maybe the traveler has a ghost ready for Rulk if he ever wants to switch.
Lmao
Honestly that doesn't sound too far fetched. When Savathun got Immaru it already had a hive ghost shell, as we see in the cutscene when she is revived, and not only did it have a hive ghost shell but it's shell is slightly larger than any other hive ghost shell like it was made specifically to bond with the Witch Queen and not any other random hive.

That ghost lore is potentially the most important lore entry of the season.
BOY, if this had been a cutsceen, that would have been earth shattering.
I'de LOVE a cinematic walkthrough of the Raid !!

I wonder why Rhulk didn’t use the Collective Obligation as his exotic weapon? He probably ran out of special ammo against us.
The glaive, an elegant weapon, for a more civilized time... lol
But it uses primary ammo
The Lubrae's Ruin is also an energy weapon and he has that equipped for the whole fight.
@@rocablade6908 I thought it used Special ammo- it’s Monday I need caffeine.
Rhulk is nothing but a simp for the Witness...who as far as we know, hardly actually interacted with the diciple.
I've seen and heard a lot of manscaped ads...but I think yours was easily the best one of ALL TIME!!!
"This one isn't for you" might mean rhulk could be revived in the light later by another ghost chosen for this purpose? Just an idea though.
"This one" is essentially a genderless pronoun in this use case, not exactly referring to there being another that is for him.
No, He specifically is deemed unworthy by that line. Traveler raised both middle fingers on that one.
And then we kill him and his ghost disappears and we never get the payoff
@@Dlo2018 ah yes, because every villain has to exist for 1 second and be the exact same as all the rest in order to be a good villain.

An interesting consequence of the voice being the Traveller is that Savathun and the hive truly did earn the light, it was never stolen. I know it was already basically confirmed from the campaign, but I feel as though this lore guarantees that Savathun and the hive earned the light.
@@Vicks0 Ghaul stole it. He didn't have a ghost and he didn't die to be able to have a ghost.
this little ghost is such a bean, i'm crying
This has ramifications for the Lucent Hive. as this means the Traveler GAVE them their ghosts and the light, while it denied the same to Rhulk. Is there another redemption story arc coming for the hive? We've seen it for the Cabal and the Fallen... One has to wonder where this is leading in the story line.
I really think Savathun will be back as an ally
Not only that people been making theories how Savathun tricked the traveler or made/resurrect a ghost, but that sentence Rhulk said, "it can't be taken only given" the sword logic is all about taking which means no matter how much savathun used, her cunning, her trickery, necromancy or whatever, she HAD to play by the traveler's rules because if she didn't she'd be trying to take the light and ghaul was the example of DONT. TAKE. THE. LIGHT.

I feel compelled to point out that the specific phrasing "this one is not for you," while indicating someone else is speaking through the Ghost, could also be interpreted to mean "this specific Ghost isn't for you."
While I think it very unlikely a one-off raid boss (and I acknowledge that is extremely discounting the way Rhulk rewrote our understanding of Destiny's story) could be resurrected similarly to Savathun as a wielder of the Light... there's actually enough wiggle room in the phrasing to suggest it is a possibility.
IT. It's tone echos the aggressive rebuke we saw it hit Ghaul with Im the vanilla campaign ending and add that to what else we know, the signs definitely seem to be there
The fact the traveler spoke to rhulk through a ghost is so cool to me for no reason
I'd like that cinematic walkthrough of the raid!
The Darkness/Witness has spoken through our Ghost on multiple ocassions in Shadowkeep and Beyond Light. I think it's very plausible then that the Traveler spoke through this ghost to Rhulk
Yes, I've always wanted a cinematic walk through of the raids.
@@Alyrael it seems to be slightly more complex if we look at the final shape lore tab from unveiling
Uhh I’m pretty sure it’s “kill many and convert the few that survive” actually…

Omfg I can’t with the orbs XD we have the Traveler, planets, the orbs of power and then the Nether Orbs that hold all the Titan-ness of all the Titans
the phrasing though
"this one" implies that there is another one for him
This implies Ghaul only took the Light because the Traveler allowed him to. It then follows that it destroyed him after he was defeated because it had run the numbers and decided Human Guardians were it's best bet. If that's true... Savathûn was right. The Traveler only seeks its continued existence and capable protectors.
Or the Traveler is also choosing according to the sword logic. Only the strongest get the light.
Reminds me of a series i read called the Grimnoir chronicles.
It was barely conscious and send some Visions to the speaker and to us
After we defeat Ghaul, the Traveller finally wakes Up and shatters its Shell to destroy the Cage and Ghaul. (You defeated Ghaul, woke Up the Traveller...)
After D2 the Traveller would be awake but damaged, which heals by season of Arrivals.
I would love a video like that. Made me wish we had lore videos for all the other raids
To my knowledge, the darkness has communicated through our ghost, but not the Witness. This might not have been the Traveler talking, but the light speaking.
That was intense. The fact the Traveler told Rhulk straight up NO was breath-taking. I never suspected the it to be so direct.
"this one"... this makes me worry for what is to come. this one phrase in the travelers speach is what makes me worry the most out of this
Edit: also to note is this is the only time we know that when someone was messing with ghosts that the traveler interfered. that could tell us that any other time was allowed or a more worrying idea is the traveler NEEDED to interfere then.
R: "What about this other then?"
T:"..... Ok you can keep that one"
R: :::D
It seems that the traveler only has the option of interference through suicide bombings, making the act reserved for when there's no hope at all.
For the first time ever. The Gardner speaks back
Excellent video as always Byf!
YES, show us the raid, I don't get to do the raids anymore, so I'd love to see it broken down by y'all.
The Sky is the philosophy of second chances, that even a horrific monster like the late Uldren Sov can change and become a good person or heck even our own Guardian, for all we know we could have been a brutal dictator in our original life
They’ll probably focus a little more on calus going into the later seasons, especially after I heard the ending of the Vox Obscura quest
I actually find the idea that a Ghost just blows up spectacularly in front of Rhulk. Like, all I got is a freeze-frame painted in my head of him just getting absolutely flash-banged at point blank by (basically) god.
I was so interested when I first read the ghost lore entry!! Makes me so excited to see what comes next for the story in Destiny!
That's is exactly what I want... I want a clear understanding of each part of the raid
Throwing shade at Graviton Lance at the beginning of the video D: It's a good gun bruh

Did anyone else notice it said “THIS ONE.” Meaning maybe there’s a ghost out there that was destined to find Rhalk at one time?
From reading around in here, it sounds more like the phrase "this one" is analogous to he/she/it. Or how some beings in sci-fi refer to themselves as "this one", like the Pandronians of Star Trek.
Yes literally every one this is the most common comment
Guardian Rhulk 😶
I definitely would love a big video on the raid lore
If it is true that the traveler spoke through the ghost and denied rhulk the light, then that even more confirms that all of the hive were blessed with the light under the traveler's will.
It also makes sense to me, as it seems like the light as a whole is "The power without", and the darkness is "The power within".
this corresponds very well with the stormcaller slogan: "harmony within, hurricane without"
That damn ad made me laugh so much, oh my Traveler! Thank you for making my evening Byf😂
I would like that video of the raid yes.
I think it was The Traveler. He rejected Rhulk, in such a direct way. Im still in shock
"I have worth beyond worth" That is such a Rhulk line to say. He believes woth and capable of using Light and Darkness
PD: Good!
If “this one” isn’t he’s…then dose that mean there is one for him..? He’s kind was blessed by the traveler and he is dead now so…
Hey I think we are actually going to get Rhulk on our side bc the traveler said “this ONE is not for you” but actually probably not. Would be cool tho, he’s still technically alive as the tree thing I think. Maybe
So the ghost was very confused, and oblivious about, well… everything, and even referred to itself as being “new.” This suggests that the Traveler is still making new ghosts, which is very interesting.
You should start posting this stuff on Spotify in podcast form, I think that would be awesome!
"Leave this place. They are not for you. Go. Leave. Now." - Kosh
I think a full lore raid like you did with last wish and garden would be really cool, like breaking down any lore and questions with a team while you do the raid
"THIS ONE IS NOT FOR YOU."
Does....does that mean there is one ghost out there that IS for him? 😳
The light isn't prone to double speak.
@@fluffyncute063 yeah thats more of a Darkness or Worm thing.
Overly cryptic bs on the other hand?
Rhulk for Speaker of the Last City!
Yooo. One of the first. We love the raid lore content!! Keep it up!! I've watched every video at least twice, it's so good
I just would like to note that IF that is the traveler speaking he DOES NOT totally refuses Rhulk.
In fact he just states "THIS ONE is not for you" and, if it means the ghost, gramatically speaking it does not refers to the light as a power but just to the ghost. Considering he's dead, he did not obtain the Light but written as it is it was possible.
That ghost was clearly dissected
I'd love a cinematic walkthrough of the raid!
The way the ghost emanated searing light at the end is also exactly how the traveler rejected ghaul. Im convinced
This is the best manscaped ad from destiny content creators I’ve ever seen.
Now that's a great ad read. Never going to look at "Orbs of Power " the same way.
I would love a raid lore video.
Heck, one of my favorite videos is your Black Garden raid giving small bits of lore while playing through it.
so, rhulk calling the traveler an imperious sun makes me think the sun his people cracked in half was actually another traveler more so now.
Yes please. We want big raid video. The lore in this raid has grabbed me unlike any other to date. Thank you for all the videos so far!
I think u r 100% correct - that has to be the Traveller speaking to true darkness. Extremely significant and thank u for bring this to light!
I didnt know how much i needed destiny themed innuendos till now. I NEED MORE
