  • I get a lot of questions about what types of acrylic paints are suitable for printing with on a gelli plate. In particular how to make a paint slower drying to enable a longer working time
WARNING! Thiis video dates back to when I first started filming and teaching online..apologies for the quality!
I will be launching an exciting NEW gelli printing and mixed media course in OCTOBER you can read more about it here.

Thanks Sally. I’ve been using different paints with my Gel plate and now I understand why I am getting the different results with each. Question- what are you using to wipe the plate between your pulls? I always have a tough time with paint getting stuck to the corners and edges. Also, have you ever mixed Golden fluid with retarder?

Hi, I use a baby wipe. You can use retarder but it will make the fluid very runny. I'd use Golden Open gel.

This is so helpful! I have been using Open Medium with my heavy body but may not be using enough. Are you cleaning the plates with a baby wipe or cloth dipped in soapy water? I have such a hard time cleaning my plates. Enough using Open Medium. Thanks!

I try to 'print off' any excess paint, but occasionally use babywipes. Baby oil gets stubborn paint off.

Are you using the Senelier HEAVY BODY acrylic? I also see that this paint comes in GLOSS and MAT - which one do you recommend for the gel paint? Do so so much appreciate your video work!

Sally - can you use oil based water soluble ink instead of acrylics?

Yes, this video is about acrylics but I often use Akua and Caligo. Not great for collage though as the glue wakes it up!
