I was told at school I was no good at art and drawing and advised to leave the class. Thank you for your comments- you're giving me the confidence to "give it a go" . I can draw!
U ask: “What better inspiration than H.Matisse?” I say: “U!” Your carefree approach never fails to inspire me.
Thank Y❤️U!
Cheers Karin : )
I've already watched about a 100 gel plate and mono printing videos and yours just taught me so much I did not know yet - thank you so much for your sharing your knowledge and the massive inspiration!
well that is good news, glad i'm bringing you some fresh ideas : )
Fantastic. I must admit my anxiety heightens when I consider being as patient as you! 🤣
I've been binge watching your channel! I dont even have a jelly plate, but I think I need one or 2 now! ❤🇨🇦👋
Thank you for this, such good advice. When I was at uni, a visiting photo realism artist said if you can't draw you are not an artist, to which most of us said we may as well give up now! 😁 I find a blank page and pencil intimidating. That said I have recently discovered I love mark making. The scissors idea is definitely something I am going to try. Thanks, love your attitude, it has really helped me.
I hope you didn't take that misguided artist's comments to heart! Drawing is for everybody :)
@@yeatesmakes A tutor said what is drawing? I was 'drawing' with fabric at that point. Still struggle though. But thankfully you are helping to build my confidence in my artwork, so thanks.
I love mark making too! We really need to stop listening to the ideas of others and do our own thing. The only rule in art is that there are no rules!
Matisse's cutout work has always made me smile and this playful gel plate demo has had the same uplifting affect. An absolute joy to watch, Mark (and a proper inspirational shove) Thank you!
Cheers Janet, pleased to hear you're inspired : )
What an awesome piece, and a joy to watch, thanks
I just love this. I have, at almost 70, started taking a drawing class and I'm obsessed. I learned about "values" and off! I wish I could send you some of my drawings for your to see!
Please send to markyeatesart@hotmail.com, I'd love to see them!
@@yeatesmakes oh, I also would like to send you one of my collage inspired by your video. If I am allowed to I will send via email.
This is so good to read well done you keep going xxx
@@NaTaliia378 Of course, I love seeing art, especially from our little community!
@maria-giuliana Latini brilliant! You are an inspiration and have made my day. Now that you’ve started drawing I hope you keep going! Love it. 🤩
Fabulous video. I love mark making and non representational art. You have inspired me to make these simple stencils. i am a 76 year old artist and believe it or not i have a 4 year old student. Her mental development is higher than her hand/eye coordination so i have to adapt and structure the classes so she can manage various projects. I want to try using the gelli plate and a small brayer to she what she can handle. This could be very fun. I also introduce her to well known artists and give us something for inspiration. Your video has given me so great ideas. Thank you.
A pleasure to share, let me know how you get on 😀
You are doing such interesting work with the gelli printing. Very different from anything else Ive seen. Thank you!
Cheers Elizabeth, glad you're finding something different on my channel : )
Amazed! And your speed is fantastic - no time waste, thank you for this.
I work on the principle most of my audience have about the same attention span as me, so I like to keep things moving!!!!!
Have been sharing these techniques with gorgeous sister in law in another state, thank you
Thanks for spreading the word, hopefully your sis enjoys the vids : )
I am pumped … watched over my lunch hour and now I want to just skip out, go home, and play with my gel plate. Thank you.
Hoping your home soon to crack the gel plate out! Enjoy :)
I thought I was the only one that gets pumped about making art. I need to get my kids up and on the school bus but all I want to do is get my paint and gel plate out. Lol
Mark, I watch for new videos from you and can't wait to see what additional ideas you've cooked up..........you never fail to intrigue me!
Cheers for the comment, I enjoyed making this one! :)
Love this!!! Didn't know about the oil pastel transfer! That's cool! Thank you! I'm a new fan in Boston, MA, USA!
This is wonderful, thank you for showing it to us I look forward to making a try at it once my new gel plate becomes used.

Hello from British Columbia Canada
🇨🇦🖐👍❤🌳🚐🌲🌍💙😎🎨🖌🎉
Thanks for the inspiration ... after years in traditional printmaking (art and commercial), I am blown away by the Gel Plate. When I first encountered craft videos using it, I didn't think much of it. It's nice to see someone working from an artistic point of view. 🙂 You've shown you can actually plan a piece of artwork rather than relying solely on happy accidents and at the same time be loose and spontaneous. The Coolors referral is just super!
Hi Karen! I'm so glad that the gel plate is so versatile, there's something in it for everyone! Coolors is great, enjoy :)
How refreshing thank you! Such a different approach to print making, loved your designs and end result was excellent. You’ve inspired me to take a different angle on printmaking. Thank you
Great news, hope it goes well for you Lina : )
This is great, it’s gave me so many ideas now with my gel plate

I visited the Matisse exhibition in London before lockdown. I agree he is inspiring.
He really is Jane. A few years ago the BBC ran a series where famous folk visited exhibitions. There was such a lovely episode of Goldie visiting Matisse - link is below, it's really joyful

I've been watching tons of gelli plate videos as I get comfortable with my new plate. And yours are the most freeing and inspiring. I love how you're using the plate to assemble sections of a whole image here. And you've definitely inspired me to play around with hand-cut stencils!
Great to hear 😀😀
Absolutely love this. Can’t wait to have a play today. Been doing gelli printing for 3 years but got lost where I was going and your videos have re inspired me.ThankYou!
That's fantastic to hear - sometimes all we need is a little nudge!
Your work is so cool, you push what can be done on a gel plate
Cheers Janet : )
Such clear instruction, and so alive!
So glad that comes across Alice : )

Excellent! Very instructive and encouraging! 🍃
Cheers Mary : )
Love the joy in your voice…your playfulness… and simple use of paper stencils…then they are unique…I love to watch you create…please do more UA-cam videos no one else using techniques like yours…
I had to laugh when you said you had the masking tape glue onto your trousers so they are less sticky… but only because in Norwegian the same word trousers mean underwear…he did what?🤣💦
Have a great week…take care of your loved ones and be creative…X (sorry for my badly Norwegian/ English)
We're safe, it was my trousers, not underwear! In England we call underwear pants, duds, boxers, undies, drawers, smalls... the list goes on, but never trousers!!!!!!
Thank you, I am learning so much from you!
A pleasure to share : )
OOOOh I'm so excited that I have found your channel🌻

Matisse is a titan!!
Love this!
Cheers Jill : )
you are just so inspiring...thank you very much for sharing
Thanks Mariette, that's very kind. A pleasure to share and this video was a fun one to make!!!
I just made several leaf stencils last week and then saw this - I love your idea of using them ala Matisse....love your videos thanks for sharing. If you cut out your stencils from Yupo Paper you can reuse them.
Amazing, yet soo simple, but not soo simple to me.
I can look at a blank piece of paper and my mind goes blank!
I agree with you about just getting back to basics and drawing random shapes with nothing in particular in mind. I think we of just simple things being the most interesting.
Thanks for sharing 👍
My remedy for blank page issues is stick a piece of old paper on it with a glue stick then rip it back to leave a surface texture - much more inviting to draw on!!!
❤️❤️❤️
: )
Love your unique style of combining fine art examples and techniques with the gelli plate
Cheers Sarah, glad you're finding something in the videos : )
Oh, man. Thank you so much. I’m an experienced Gel printer, but still trying to find my way in creating my own designs for stencils. I am so inspired and encouraged. Can’t wait to play.
Great to hear. I enjoyed making this pone so am going to make another today on drawing and developing stencils : ) hopefully will give even more encouragement : )
You’ve inspired me to get out my geli plate!

Cheers Shira, was fun to make!!!
You’ve expanded my whole idea of gelli printing. And such fantastic results!
thanks so much for taking time to comment, I'm delighted the videos are useful to you : )
Brilliant as always Mark. Composition is a mystery to non-artists. Do you know of a good resource that helps with composition. My gel plate arrived and it is an absolute joy making prints. Thank you!
Thanks for this! I love Matisse for his simple shapes and his collage work. You’ve definitely captured his style.
Was loads of fun to make - Matisse was just off the scale for creativity and joy
