As part of the Guitar Center Sessions series the power trio of Paul Gilbert, Jeff Bowders, and Craig Martini blasted through an eleven-song set consisting of music from a variety of genres.

PG is a beast!!!! His technique and melodic sense are impeccable and his tone, phrasing and timing are all top shelf. This cat is as clean as a whistle and his sense of humour is always entertaining. He reminds me of Greg Koch. If those two ever toured or made a record together it would be a titanic display of skill and laughs. I'd definitely be in the audience for that.
Mad props to the staying power of Mr. Martini.
Monotonous bass lines are such a chore. I'm not sure which is worse, the 9+ minutes here, or on The Who's "Magic Bus".
Having been in cover bands that have done both songs, I can feel the sleep inducing repetition coursing through my muscle memory even now.

PG - the most dangerous pinky finger on the guitar! It's truly a pleasure watch this musical genius both play, instruct others and in general, just be a good fun loving human! It never gets old exploring his back catalog thru current releases! Would love to see him in a Michigan gig one day.

@@josephm.2856 . He would blow Yngwie Malmsteen off stage that's why Yngwie won't jam with Paul, he's butthurt, got his ego bruised, there's somebody faster and more creative. He plays everything from classical to metal to slide Blues. He just improves everything he plays.

I have seen may gilbert's videos. But this solo was just amazing... I'm greek and i can't find the appropriate words to describe the exelnce of his guitar art!
Holy shit! So many PG licks in the solo, PG-ish string skipping arpeggios licks, syncopated licks, bending licks, Colorado Bulldog, Bultaco Saturno...So much of Paul's essence.
I think his comments and playing through the entire Guitar Center session show his diversity and his personal musical tastes and influences. Who can say they never wanted to know this about such a great artist?

I think 'light my fire' was just the name and the beginning of the song, after a few minutes Paul takes us to another world with that CRAZYYYY SOLO that transcends the original with all respect and credits to the original, but it was something else, awsome!!!!

Everytime i listen to this tune after 1:15 i forget morrison, I forget Ray and all i can hear is superb, beautiful music and find myself in different dimension................scientist believed there are higher dimension and paul takes you right there......
Paul Gilbert does this great tune justice. People with negative things to say miss the point. Good music is all gravy and shouldnt be argued about which is better.
The solo pretty much blew my mind
I must say his rhythm and sense of phrasing is on the money and if you are not liking it it's because you are not wanting this type of interpretation. Keys highly missed and through iPad speakers there is no bass!

@jimistephen Im pretty sure the hum cancelling pickups are supposed to sound and look like single coil pickups but are two coils stacked and they cancel eachother out like humbuckers so it gets rid of the single coil hum

@mmaier2112 I believe they are called "Hum Canceling" not "Humbucker", they are single-coils, with a weaker magnet than most, so they don't hum. it doesn't change the fact that it is still a single coil pick-up.
