But always let your playing be accurate and in rhythm. The speed of playing is at least important .. it is important that the tone of the guitar sounds nice
Paul Gilbert, is an extremist guitar apex predator... Complete monster... Guy can depart the main melody with impunity, and always knows where he's at... and how to get back from there. Very very underrated guitar player... PLUS? Guy reads music, and understands music theory, backwards and forwards. Just an amazing player, composer, and performer.
Definitely not underrated in the guitar community. Underrated is someone like Chris Poland who’s phenomenal . Gilbert is the man and famous no doubt in guitar circles .
I had his instructional video when I was 17 and remwmber this song vividly now. Never heard it in 25 yrs since! Who misses the old Paul Gilbert's style? So much more agressive.
Paul was in fact one of Tafolla's main mentors during the shred era. And he has played 4 amazing guest solos on Joey Tafolla's legendary neo-classical album Out Of The Sun from 1987, and probably helped arrange that record too, with Tony MacAlpine.
This was a " soundpage " in Guitar Player Magazine back in 87-88 . It was a playable piece of vinal that was inserted in the magazine , tore it out and placed it on a turntable.
I SO admire PG's effortless speed(for HIM)/stamina.He's my favorite METAL player. He's not a blues, jazz,or MOR Rock player,he's METAL.He does FAST like nobody else on the planet.
@@FoxinTaiwan He may be,but metal is all he's good at.Gary Moore he can NEVER be.Everybody's bored with Metal,THAT'S why he's bored with it.Even Dann Huff said years ago that he used to practice speed, but it became PASSE'.
Once upon a time there was a young boy who saw Paul Gilbert perform Screamin' Blues o' Mania and he swore that he would set forth on a quest of guitar playing to become as good as Paul Gilbert. 22 years later he watched this video on UA-cam and still could not play as well as Paul Gilbert. He now goes by the name of ''The Disliker of this video''. P.S Paul kicks ass
I remember purchasing Guitar World magazine and this song being included as flexible record with the magazine. Not sure what they called them. I remember learning what I could. Great jam!
I played this to Phil Emmanuel (Tommy Emmanuel’s brother) back in the early 90s and he told me to “steer clear of that American stuff”. He told me to listen to The Shadows and Johnny Diesel, people like that. All the guitar players in Australia who tried to copy American shredders failed in our music industry. The ones who are most beloved are the guitarists who play guitar as an accompaniment to singers, playing rhythm and singing backup. I prefer our Australian traditions to this flashy shred stuff now.
I never followed Herman Li much....he wrote some good songs which I liked. I do think he was overhyped a lot for his chops , but then again the general public is pretty ignorant of shred guitar so that's prolly why.
Same here, miss the intensity, tone and the writing from that era. Nothing against what he does now though, i just wish he would mix it up with good old shred more.
Great player. I met him when he was still playing in Racer X about '86-'87. Very cool guy. I was blown away when I first heard him. Fantastic player. Stylistically, I prefer Lynch, Demartini, Schenker and Jake E. Lee, but can't deny Paul's guitar prowess. He's also got a great ear for doing covers. Some players are just very by-the-book boring when they do a cover, but Paul can really dig into it, totally surround and dominate it. Great player. Bruce Bouillet who played with Paul in Racer X is also great.
Paul extraordinary guitarist in his own right, but if blues is what you strive towards, Schon un-surpassed, Berry himself was even surprised within neals stellar execution.
@hellraiser7974 In the mid to the end of the 80's Paul and Bruce's Ibanez's typically had Kahler's. When Paul finally had his signature Ibanez "PG" model, it came with the Ibanez Original Edge for a floating bridge.
Paul Gilbert, the reason many pick up the guitar....also the reason many put down the guitar.
I conquer this statement.
[one of) the reason
But always let your playing be accurate and in rhythm. The speed of playing is at least important .. it is important that the tone of the guitar sounds nice
I have put down the guitar because of Paul Gilbert and many more like him
😂😂😂 Indeed!
Daaaamn I wish he still wrote and played like this
What this really needs is some slide, said nobody 😂
@@ukguitarnoodle Yeah Im not digging his whole "slides used as vocals" era. Id much rather him just sing it or have it sung.
I really like that part which he plays from 0:00 to 4:05
1:44 that transition into the main theme is unreal
It is one of the hardest parts, but once you get it, it's like riding a bike
Yes it sounds like start of a giant engine
We have now entered the Twilight Zone😂

Ad good a summary of an exceptional talent I have seen. Hard to accept he has only four fingers and a thumb on his left hand..
Definitely not underrated in the guitar community. Underrated is someone like Chris Poland who’s phenomenal . Gilbert is the man and famous no doubt in guitar circles .
Bassist really help
He can't read music, learns it all by ear.
"extremist guitar apex predator" 😂😂😂. That's right description 4 him xD
Such a badass! He plays w razor precision, and beautiful feel. I love his spacious rich rich note selection! Top shelf ears!
Paul Gilbert is a madman on the guitar.. I like watching him play especially the older stuff
Incredible playing! Remembering this tune from a flexi-disc in Guitar Player Magazine, kind of while we were waiting for the first Mr. Big release.
Ha ha I still have it!
I have mine as well! Billy Sheehan on bass!
Me too!
I had his instructional video when I was 17 and remwmber this song vividly now. Never heard it in 25 yrs since! Who misses the old Paul Gilbert's style? So much more agressive.
whats the title of this instructional video?
@@jackguitarfreak3 Intense Rock 2
I do, i miss shred/power-pop's Paul.
this is fantastic. Paul's phrasing is always perfection. This track has a very Joey Tafolla - like vibe from the Infra Blue era. Love it.
Infra blue was a good album, why the song(a place in the sun,) taught me how to phrase with major tonalities
Paul was in fact one of Tafolla's main mentors during the shred era. And he has played 4 amazing guest solos on Joey Tafolla's legendary neo-classical album Out Of The Sun from 1987, and probably helped arrange that record too, with Tony MacAlpine.
Paul is a extremely brilliant guitarist, and he comes across as a very nice guy.
This was a " soundpage " in Guitar Player Magazine back in 87-88 . It was a playable piece of vinal that was inserted in the magazine , tore it out and placed it on a turntable.
I had Paul's REH instructional video on VHS this was the track playing at the end with the credits. Always loved it. .
I’ve never heard of this guy... he’s awesome! I’m a believer
The way he pick ! Its wicked!!
I just can't stop watching and enjoying this. Brilliant!
Such sauce emanating from this guy's hands. I'm so blown away and also motivated like never before to continue my journey of guitar excellence
He was one if my teachers when i went to guitar institute in hollywood californis in 1988
Wow
One of the best players on the planet.
I love paul gilbert and he's a good teacher..problem is most people don't have those chops to play what he's teaching. lol
I SO admire PG's effortless speed(for HIM)/stamina.He's my favorite METAL player. He's not a blues, jazz,or MOR Rock player,he's METAL.He does FAST like nobody else on the planet.
lol. He's even said multiple times that he's bored with metal. check out his new clinics

I remember the G.I.T days😊 Paul L
卓越したテクニック&リズム感、迷子になりそうなくらい主旋律から離れたと思いきやまた戻っているぶっ飛んだアイデアの持ち主だ!
Sucks that this incredible song can be found only in one of his instructional's videos, and not on any album or cd...
There's that Billy Sheehan bass solo as well with portions of this song.
@@suspiciousdoge9yand104 which solo?
This track was on a Guitar player magazine free record.
Ok, it was about nearly 30 years ago 👍🏻😂
i've still got the flexi single :)
He played this jam on his Instructional video Vhs tape where his guitar had frills hangin off the whole neck.Badazz
A incredible player who's DEFINITELY grown as a player over the years!!!

Paul Gilbert além de simpático e carismático é um grandioso guitarrista.
Awesome! I love this! unbelievable!
めちゃくちゃすごい! 大好きです! ほんと信じられないですよ!
having a great time here ......thanks pg ...amazing
That Riff in 0:45 is typical for Guthrie Govan. But Paul did long time before. I think no Video can show the whole package Paul can play. Unbelievable
in a sense the entire track is something you might hear from The Aristocrats
Guthrie has immense respect for Mr Gilbert. As he once said in an interview having discovered Paul was studying jazz, "we must all be very afraid!"
Beautiful song... wow.
I remember purchasing Guitar World magazine and this song being included as flexible record with the magazine. Not sure what they called them. I remember learning what I could. Great jam!
Paul is a beast
I love this guy. I have an Ibanez guitar because of him 🎸🎸💪
#me too !
Paul Gilbert AMAZING🎸🤘🔥
Immense talent
If Paul Gilbert says it's blues...Im not gonna argue...
1:43 - 1:45 man, that transistion is so good
Guy's it has blues scales and licks so yes it does have blues base roots.
0:45 Such a spicy line...
Only Govan and Ron Thal plays such lines these days

Ah yes, traditional Australian electric guitar 😂
I love that beginning!
I olverlooked this guy for years jeezzz he goooddd
you must be busy following Herman lee

fits perfect for the ost of guilty gear
He is insanely good...
Paul Gilbert... The one and only!
blues is the roots, everything else is the fruits baby!
Paul gilbert sempre me surpriendendo
This was when everybody was into Floyd Rose stuff. He had enough resources to pass on them. Brilliant.
Inspiring
I don't think I could play this even if he gave me a lesson.
Ι miss Shred God Paul...
Same here, miss the intensity, tone and the writing from that era.
Nothing against what he does now though, i just wish he would mix it up with good old shred more.
Incredible!!
some of the slickest stuff, this dude

A great guitarist from the 80s one of the only ones not to use a floyd rose! Kudos to the man!
those frets are burning...

Amazing
super fretts? the shadow on them wow
Great guitar🎸 playing. Sounds perfect👍
Dami dami Paul Daju.... Satis👍👍👍😁😁
Boss music for sure
日本人の優しさに触れられて良かったね。
Well, it is not the blues, but anything that Paul Gilbert does is amazing. Just a fantastic technique.
If you think this isn't blues, you should hear his flamenco
ANALOG SOUND, MISS YOU.
The section at :52 -1:10reminds me of old greg howe
Those strings will need some time to cool down after that.
+Billy Williams He shouldn't play guitar like this around others....
The fire danger is too risky.
LOL
Michael Williams I agree. lol.
One of the only players to ACCURATELY cover Alex Lifeson w Cygnus and the Sea Monsters.....
hes so good even the guitar quit playing
hell yeahhh...
Paul looks like the spitting image of Pat Travis here cool 😎
LOVE YOU PAUL!!!
INCREIBLE
Now i realised it was Paul Gilbert who started it all then Nuno Bettencourt pick it up & improvised.....
Paul extraordinary guitarist in his own right, but if blues is what you strive towards, Schon un-surpassed, Berry himself was even surprised within neals stellar execution.
This just plain old fucking cool.
