Did you say youre firing the 40 out of the 10mm rock island?
Yup. Can shoot 40 out of most 10mms
@@WHOTEEWHO wow i cant believe i didnt know that.. it makes since tho... learn something nnew everyday!
@@WHOTEEWHO Like a. 38spl. from a. 357 and a .44spl. from. 44mag. The 460S&W fire. 454 Casull and .45L Colt
Next, hit with 45 long colt, +P
As a cop in Jackson county Missouri, Kansas City, for 27 yrs I was involved in switching from the 38spl revolver to the 9mm and finally the 40 S&W. Two things that made our dept go to the 40. One was the FBI shootout in Florida where the failure of the 9mm to stop bad guys resulted in officer deaths and a shooting in Kansas City where the bad guy was shot 17 times including 3 times in the head. The 9mm failed to stop, in fact the guy lived and the only permanent injury was the loss of vision in one eye when the 9mm hollow point shattered on the ocular socket bone and pieces of lead penetrated and damaged the eye. As a firearms instructor and reviewing several officer involved shootings by interviews, on car and body cameras, and autopsies, I do not trust the 9mm. It gets its hitting power by speed not bullet mass. For a pistol I carry either the 40 or the 45. I prefer the 45. That being said. You should have hit the clay center of mass. Hitting high like you did gives a false impression of the 45s striking power
When I was a kid in the River Quay of Kansas City all the cops were carrying model 15 Smith's.
WAs hollow points involved in shooting in Florida? I guess, it doesnt matter than and with nine-mil you have more rounds to go and better back recoil. In other case I argee.
But with modern powder and bullet technology, the 9mm, 40, and 45 all penetrate about a foot and expand to about. 7 of an inch. One just relies on speed and on the other side of the spectrum it relies on weight but is a lot slower. That's why I'm confused because if you want more power, 40 and 45 are still really not enough. You didnt really solve the issue
@@briant7652 size doesnt matter as much as weight does. Especially when the bullet is going to expand anyways. The slower the bullet goes, the less it will expand. A heavier bullet wont slow down as fast as a lighter bullet will. But that also depends on the difference in speed from the 2. I compared my ak with my ar shooting half inch steel. The ak has a significantly heavier bullet than that ar. But the ar is doing a solid 1000fps faster. The 5.56 almost went through the half inch steel while the 7.62x39 just scratched the paint off.
@@briant7652 it does and it doesnt. There are smaller diameter bullets out there that are heavier than the bigger diameter ones. Like 10mm as an example out shines 45 in every possible way yet is smaller in diameter. It also does way more damage than the 45 and penetrates further. So that means that the bigger bullet doesnt always do more damage. My 270 has done more damage than my 308.
Looks like the 45 did more damage but also looks like it was a higher hit in the clay than the other two rounds!
It would have done the thing even if you hit it center
I’m a .45 guy myself and I wouldn’t want to get hit by any of those. I think your .45 impact was a bit higher on the block and the cavitation blew the top off the clay block. Great video.
Yeah but if that 45 hit ur head it would look like that clay
Just watched you pistol rounds in clay 3 times I think the 45 was too high looking at the 9 and 40 which you hit right in the middle but the 45 was higher which looks better as the top blew off but would it have blown top off you had hit it same position ? The 9 mm seemed to expand then suck it back in ?
I agree.
@Paul Blakey
yes it was a bit higher. but the main difference is using double tap ammo. its quite a bit hotter, usually in +p or higher
Absolutely he not slick thats why he chose the 45 cause he had an agenda to shoot it at a diffrant spot
To my knowledge which is vast but the 9mm is a fast round better at penetration. You watch other videos with Ballistic gel and see the results
@@jasonschlake8098
comparing calibers is mostly just for fun, to give a very general idea what specific loads will do. production ammo is not a good indicator of what most calibers are capable of. certain qualities like velocity and weight are seldom determined by what is optimum
Clay blocks are a great testing medium because they retain the temporary wound cavity and show it very well.
You could take those clay blocks that has been shot and stick them in a kiln and dry them then raffle them off as art and get ammo cash out of it .
Nobody wants my old clay 😝
That's a good idea. Just dig a fairly deep pit in the ground and get a good bed of coals and then put the clay in, put a bunch of wood around it and touch it off. Keep it burning really hot for awhile and you should have some pretty cool stuff.
@@Sickofsociety1 ya , sign it , his viewers would bid on them . Do different calibers n stuff

@@Sickofsociety1 cool , being a gun nerd that I am id buy some .
I personally think the 45 was higher up that's why it exploded the top out I'm sure if you shot the 40 in the same spot it would have done the same like I said I think you win a little higher on the block with the 45
Exactly. Shot placement makes a difference in the outcome.
Come on maaannn. Lol. You are correct.
It does give you some impression of what would happen if you caught one in the T-box.
Agree
Agreed completely
You shot high with the 45 ACP no doubt about it. Big difference in point of contact between pill and clay.
You shot higher on the shot with the 45
The most surprising part of this video was that the Remington pistol actually fired.
Sure is sad what happened to Remington. This is what happens when companies are mishandled. Sadly that's becoming the new normal in America.
😂
Better off with a hi point
😄😄😄😄
🤣
Wouldn't want to get hit with any of them
Me neither
That's right, they'll all send an attacker running or screaming in terror. It's not like TV, and they get shot 10 times before they are subdued..
@@hoss1003 They'll all kill an attacker!💀
@@hoss1003, that’ll depend on what drugs they’re on. Seen footage of cops putting multiple rounds into a guy on ?PCP? and it took a lot to put him down
@@paulcollyer801 so true.
They all do the job! But that good ole 45ACP! Good stuff!
Gotta love 45
I love my .357 magnum quite a bit more, but still gotta admire the 45ACP
Love my 45ACP nice slow big bullet always performs well.
At close range especially the 45acp is absolutely devastating. There is a reason our military used the cartridge for 75 years.
There really wasn’t a difference. He hit high with the .45. That’s why the top blew off.
The .45 definitely did more damage but any of them would be up to the task given proper shot placement. I carried a .38 during the first 20 yrs of my career and was forced to use it three times and it did the job too. The .38 is still my preference in retirement (retired after 30 yrs in ‘97) simply based on street experience.
Thank you
After seeing comparison videos with .45 & .357 vs. 10mm, it's clear the .45 performs consistently, while the 10mm performs well with light bullets and not as well with heavier bullets, while the 9mm is also highly bullet-dependent. The .357 and 10mm can outperform the .45 ACP, but only when lighter-weight bullets are used. Low pressure rounds like the .45 ACP and .38 Special rely on relatively softer lead instead of high velocity to yield hollow point expansion. High pressure rounds (like 9mm, 10mm, or .357) when coupled with heavier hollow point bullets tend to underperform due to insufficient velocity relative to the hardness of the bullet.
Using all hollow point rounds (including existing footage), let's see a comparison of 155g vs. 180g in 10mm, 125g vs 180g in .357, and 115g vs 147g in 9mm, and then run 185g vs 230g in .45 ACP & 115g vs 158g (JSWCHP) in .38 Spcl. to see what I'm talking about: barring poor bullet-design, the .38 & .45 will consistently perform regardless of bullet weight, while the high-pressure rounds are weight-dependent, offering more penetration at the expense of reliable expansion.
That's exactly why I use 45 plus peas with a lighter bullets and 45 super and 450 SMC with 185 rain 200 grain 220 and 230 grain I really like the 450 SMC because of its higher pressure around 32,000 and it gets the job done
The 450 SMC makes the 10 mm look pretty week with heavier grain bullets
Like I was taught in the Marines, sometimes slow and BIG gets the job done!!! I carried the 9mm and 40 but my love has always been with the 45!!! Great video 👍🏼👍🏼
You shot the 45 higher than 40 and 9. Reason the top blew off
Like me, old, fat, and slow gets the job done!
😆😆😆
🤔... 😂🤣.. 🙊
I’m going to use that! Thanks
Younger, Svelte but heavy and goddamn fast is mo'better.
(10mm is where its at... best of both worlds. Heavy like a .45, fast like a 9mm. )
I'm like you 45acp 110 yrs old still kicking ass! These people get me 9mm trying make it into 44 magnum it's small bullet so its fast so is a 22 magnum and they dont compare it to 45 acp.Ok you can load alot in clip thats it all the advantage you have 9mm.far that goes pmr 30 has 9mm beat 30-17=13 more rounds sorry 9mm!
Now that’s why I love .45 acp 🦾🦾💀💀🧢🚀🧯☠️💯💯 I’m glad I have a Colt .45 Auto 🙏🏽🙏🏽
When the clay blocks attack, I believe you 'd be safe with either one .
No emperor would have made terra cotta warriors if he knew what modern guns can do.
Well played.
I wouldn't want to be shot by any of these. I carry a Springfield XD40 myself because after carrying the M9 every day all day overseas I wanted a polymer pistol that would be lighter. But this is a great practical demonstration. Thanks for doing this.
That looks like a lot of fun! Unfortunately, as others have pointed out, you didn't hit dead center with the .45 (as you did with the 9mm and .40) so the comparison is a bit invalid. With the 'wound cavity' made by the .40, it most likely would have been similar to the .45's. I wouldn't bet that on the 9mm since your center of mass shot didn't deform the top of the block as the .40 did.
I think this 'test', along with many I've seen with ballistic gel, shows that, despite all the talk of better powder and cartridges, the .40 still makes a bigger wound channel than the 9mm (no matter what James Yeager says 😃) and the .45 is still on top.
That was a standard pressure 45 he used if you guys want to get technical if you want to jump the pressure up to a 4500 PSI that's getting up there with a 40 caliber and 9 mm let's see what happens then
I'm using a speaker app and it didn't quite take what I said I said if you want to get technical and jump the pressure of a 45 up to the pressures of the 40 caliber and a 9 mm you should use a 450 SMC which has 32000 PSI that is getting up there with the 40 caliber and a 9 mm and then let's see what happens
Appears to me that you hit the block higher with the 45 which explains the top separating. I'll stick with my 40 S&W.
45 is king
That .40 did some great damage and got there quick. Also get higher capacity with the .40 Caliber. But I learned to shoot with a .45 and can drive nails with mine so I will stick with it.
@@WHOTEEWHO I like and carry the .45 as well BUT you did hit that clay a lot higher with it than the 9mm and .40. WE CAN ALL SEE THAT! Lol! So, how about a do-over video?
.45 can’t penetrate the kind of metal a 9 or 40 can. All 3 have about the same energy. It’s all a wash. 45 is NOT king of anything.
@@ryanranard5187 9mm drastically changes trajectories after hitting the bone and 45 wades further, if someone uses a vest, power and place not penetration counts I think that 9 mm is the king of easy shooting and possible shooting speed but the other two rounds are more devastating
When I close my eyes, I hear Hank Hill talking about ammo. Lol
Love it!! Great video!!
Dangit bobby!
I like .40 personally. But any caliber means nothing if you can't hit with it >:0
Better a hit with a .22 than a miss with a .45
And why would you miss with a 45 in a 1911 with a 5in barrel it has very little recoll
@@TheRealZJE313 when bullets are flying at you things get weird real fast, thats why you might miss.

@@TheRealZJE313 muscle memory but even then you don't always win.
Not sure how conclusive these clay block "tests" are but I love watching them. Thanks
You hit the 45 higher than the others. The 40 blew clay out the front and back. As expected the 45 did more damage.
Each shot seemed to hit a little higher than the previous one. I think that would have some effect on the damage patterns. Certainly, less clay above the impact cavity could cause the top to move more. I'm not sure whether that would change the the sideways expansion. Either way, thank you for a fun video. Ultimately, I believe that all three of those calibers will do the job in a self-defense situation if I do my job making a good self-defense shot. The weakest link in my self-defense plans is always in the component behind the grip and in front of the trigger.
I would love to see one more round shot into it. I have ALWAYS been a 45 guy, yes. But my new love is the sheer velocity of the 357sig. I would love to see that same clay block shot with the 357sig.
What they made a 45 ACP?
I (still) be rocking the 45 Colt!
The “Taylor Knock Out Index”: Velocity (in fps) x Weight (in grains) x Diameter (in inches) = _ divided by 7,000 [to convert into foot pounds of energy].
9mm: [1901 AD] (Original)
Standard P - 1180 x 115 x .355 = 48,173.5 divided by 7,000 = 6.88 ft pd
Underwood Ammo 9mm:
Standard P - 1300 x 115 x .355 = 53,072.5 divided by 7000 = 7.58 ft pd
+P - 1100 x 147 x .355 = 57,403.5 divided by 7000 = 8.2 ft pd
+P+ - 1550 x 90 x .355 = 49,522.5 divided by 7000 = 7.07 ft pd - (?)
Notice how big and slow is better than little and faster every time? Well now, it ain’t just what she said anymore!
And on that note -
45 ACP: [1904 AD]
Standard P - 835 x 230 x .451 = 86,614.55 divided by 7,000 = 12.37 ft pd
Underwood Ammo 45 ACP:
+P - 925 x 255 x .452 = 106,615.5 divided by 7000 = 15.23 ft pd
Fools Figure, but Figures don't Fool! Which now leads us to the Facts -
45 Colt: [1872 AD] (Original)
Standard P - 1000 x 235 x .456 = 107,160 divided by 7,000 = 15.3 ft pd Original
Underwood Ammo 45 Colt:
Standard P - 1000 x 250 x .452 = 113,000 divided by 7,000 = 16.14 ft pd - Xtreme Penetrator
+P - 1400 x 250 x .452 = 158,200 divided by 7,000 = 22.6ft pd - Xtreme Penetrator +P
This is the results of big getting faster. So, "faster can be goods so long as size is not compromised!" And I quoted her on that.
[Liberty Ammunition 45 Colt:
Standard P - 1800 x 78 x .452 = 63,460.8 divided by 7,000 = 9.0658 ft pd - Civil Defense

+P - 1325 x 325 x .452 = 194,642.5 divided by 7,000 = 27.8 ft pd - Long Flat Nose Gas Check Hi-Tek Coated Hard Cast +P
This is the results of big getting bigger! As so did her eyes!
Standard P - 900 x 220 x .452 = 89,496 divided by 7,000 = 12.785 ft pd - Maximum Expansion (before it expands)
Standard P - 900 x 220 x 1.75 = 346,500 divided by 7,000 = 49.5 ft pd - Maximum Expansion (after it expands)
This is the results of big becoming HUGE! At this point she was speechless(?).
That .40 in the 10mm chamber is going to perform less than designed.
Hit these blocks again with the same exact round. While you're at it add a 10mm please.
I thought I was “ hearing” things when he said he was using a 10mm to shoot the .40
Didn’t know you could do that and I agree that performance will be different in an actual.40 cal weapon.
He most definitely should have fired the .40 out of a handgun chambered specifically for the round. The round would have performed differently and the results would have been totally different than what we saw in the video. I think if he had used a .40 S&W handgun the damage to the clay block would have been greater than it was. Now if he had fired a 10mm through that Rock Island that block of clay would have been devastated by the round. I have both a Glock 22 and a Glock 20 and I have fired a few .40 S&W rounds through my Glock 20, and yes the round does perform differently when fired from a 10mm. From my experience firing .40 S&W through a 10mm pistol, the .40 does seem to lose some of its' power.
Why would the .40 work different out of a 10mm gun? Same size bullet.
@@mp6163 because even though the .40 is the same caliber as 10mm it is a shorter round and it has to do with head spacing
Not to mention an all copper round will not transfer as much energy since it is lighter and also moving much faster than a lead filled JHP. Test is flawed in several ways.
Wow 😳 I never guessed how the clay would react to those rounds, pretty wicked 👍🏻
Pretty wild!

Put some of those bullets (sold as Speer bullets) in warmish .45 Colt loads. Shot accurately out of a Redhawk, but never had occasion to test them for kinetic effect.
We need a 10mm shot out of that 1911 instead of just the .40S&W. The 10mm would’ve won out no question.
👍👍
No no yo 10 is not going to win.u 10 people always think cent it's moving faster than the 45 is doing more damage.
AI3xZJE41 YT lmao the .45 is a slow century old cartridge, improved .45 wildcats ARE ballistically better than the 10mm, but stock .45ACP, well you should go do more research, the 10mm puts out more energy and is only slightly smaller, that speed you want to act like doesn’t matter actually does make all the difference in the world. That’s literally how destructive something is just simply mass X speed = power. There’s not that much added mass on a .45ACP comparatively to the 10mm’s added speed to make it put out more ft lbs of energy. There’s a very obvious reason that guides and hunters are choosing 10mm hard cast and extreme penetrator rounds for bear defense and hunting vs the .45ACP. Cause it’s simply hitting harder and deeper. Period.
@@mattandrews8528Power ft lbs wise it goes 9mm 45 40 then 10mm with 10mm having about the same ft pounds as 357 magnum and 40 s&w loads espically hotter ones being up there 40 smaller then 10mm but is deffiently anything but short and wimpy
Why stop there? Put the .44 mag up against the 10mm, then the .500 S&W up against the .44 mag! Where's that 45-70 revolver???? I seen Hickok with it a few years back.

The 45 did hit a little high, but I would still choose it over the over two.
Nop. 45 didn't hit at the same level as the others.
As mentioned by many below, it did look like the .45 hit higher, so there was less mass above to move, resulting in separation of the top instead of just bulging. It would have been useful to see all 3 blocks side by side at the end to simplify the visual comparison. Good video. Thanks.

Maybe before Jesus comes again. Can't even think about donating ammo/money Can't find anything on the shelves. Sad but keep up the good work!
I own all 3 i kinda like 40 the best some days
I love em all
Your best clay shoot ever. I can't stop laughing
Way back in the day of shopping for my first carry pistol, I was looking for a 9mm, simply because of the addition rounds one can carry. A friend of mine, who worked for the sheriff department's correctional division told me, "get a 45. You can't carry as many rounds, but you'll only need one round to make contact anywhere, to guarantee a stop of an attacker."
All good just looked like the 45 hit a little higher than the other two rounds, the 40 made one big hole by hitting center. Great Video 👍
9mm was ok but nothing beats a 45.. slow n heavy but never faila to get the job done
With a 9mm 147gr or the 9mm 185gr it would have been different
500magnum
@Keith Peterson the 45 isn't the beginning or end of anything I would have a 9mm by my side with a heavy rounds over a 45 all day long
@Keith Peterson the 45 better than the 9mm? Lol not a chance in hell
@Keith Peterson I'll put a 9mm up against any 45 anyday...9mm with 147gr or 9mm with 185gr both have 1000 fps and the weight mass.. 45 is nothing but a slow Turtle
The 45 was higher then the other ones
than
Nine made it smile, Forty gave it the mumps, and Forty-five gave it loss of memory and bladder control.
Grew up in the US Army thinking a bigger round is almost always better. 30 years later having shot pretty much everything from 5.56 to 50 cal and everything in between, I still encourage you to carry a large a caliber as you comfortably will with as much capacity as your belt will sustain. Just me!
Can you re-do the 45? It looked like you shot the clay a little on the high side. Overall, loved this video! Please make another comparing more rounds. Thanks!
“yOu ShOT HiGH oN tHe 45!!!”- 9mm fairies
💯💯💯
🤣🤣🤣 yup just waiting for the cry babies
To be even remotely comparable, the ammunition should be: same brand, same bullet, same length barrel, shooting to same spot, just the different calibers.
Not a science lab, back yard fun
I would also like to see a quarter inch board as a backstop. Really on a lot of your videos. Great video, good work.
That first one is art. You should have dried it out and glazed it and then sold it. That is cool as all get out.
.45 is my favorite glock 21 is what I carry on duty
Good pick
Same, best gun, 13+1.
I EDC a gen 3 Glock 21sf everyday. My favorite handgun and cartridge of all time.
I think you have discovered away to make some money. Take those clay models and put them in a kelm. Make a wicked cool gun art. I think people would buy them. I would if the price wasn't to crazy
I think this Good OL Boy does the voice for Hank Hill as his side Gig......

Great shot show. The .45 acp jhp 230 grain seems to be a good self-defense ammo with a real knockdown power. The energy is tremendous and has a great stopping power. Great for personal carry as well as for vehicle carry.👍
