I agree with your review. For some of us bass heads, more bang for our bucks is the only option, with having a family to support but still enjoy and be into the bass hobbies. Great reviews, bro!
I have a nice size family I have to support also but I was able to get an EMF Audio 15 for $152 off of the site. I have a Taramps Smart 3 on it and it’s kind of amazing!!! Did not break the bank at all.
Dont know if anyone gives a damn but if you're bored like me during the covid times you can stream pretty much all of the latest movies and series on instaflixxer. Been watching with my brother for the last weeks =)
I would love to buy expensive subs and amps but if I don’t have the money to spare, I go with whatever I can afford as long as it’s good and it gives me good bass! Bass ftw!
I love my SA’s and I’ll keep running them til/if I decide to upgrade. if I couldn’t have swung the price on them I wouldn’t hesitate to run skar. Different strokes for different folks. Get the best you can afford or justify spending.
I’ve got a pair of those Sundowns in my truck on a 2200W amp, they take that power all day even in a slightly undersized ported box (to fit stealth under the back seat). They’re underrated on power and have sounded great for almost 3 years now.
I like the ddx series. They play a really deep note in my civic. Running 2 12s on a taramp 3k hd. Plus soundstream epicenter and pioneer deh4220bt radio and they dig deep. My voltage only drops from 14.3-13.8 after each bass note and I hit a clean 144 db with those subs
(1) DDX DVC2 running on a D4S JP8 and I’ve had 10” SDR,SVR,EVL, & DDX does best for my needs by far running at 1 ohm with a 1k wattage limit!#Skar#DDX❤
Yeah I got the 10" 2ohm with a 2400w ZEUS amp. Its mounted in a regular black carpet SKAR 1.25 CF 39mhz ported box and it hits hard AF! I really do think it sounds better with age
Sundown subs no matter which model n size always will put a smile on ppls faces. They are absolutely amazing subs. And skar as well what i love about skar audio is they make the same subs almost as sundown same looks same power ect like 99.9% identical and slash the price in half just about.. So they try to help ppl get stupid loud systems at the fraction of the cost as orion hccas sundowns ect ect.. But still sundown is like bass royalty now days lol
@@jessicaking2646 yea though most of sundowns products are way underrated. my 2 e-12s are taking power from a dc audio 2.0k which is double rated. and they have been tsking that for almost a year. definitely cant say the same for a skar sub.
What people fail to realize is that Jacob at sundown puts a lot of thought,r&d,engineering into his products, and goes out of his way to please the market.Skar just pumps out subs.Basically companies like Sundown do the hard work, then Skar looks at what they did, makes a low quality copy and puts it out at a lower price.Essentially the people buying Sundown are paying for Sundown and Skar's product development, and Skar buyers are just buying a cheap sub.
Had the SA’s, after a coil shifted I went with the DDX’s and I personally think the DDX’s have a over all better response and performance across the board. The only thing I have to wait and see is if the DDX’s can last 4 years before something goes wrong. Did a 147.8 at 43hz with the SA’s.
I think skar is much better only because of its cost. You can get a 10” skar sub for under $100 when sundown is selling them for almost $200. Even if the sundown was a hair better I would still do the skar just because they’re half the price. Common sense to me.
i agree. not only that. but the skar subwoofers and products always match up to what they say. they don’t lie and the subwoofers are good quality for the price. nothing against sundown though
As much as we enjoy the music demo, it doesn't replace being there. If you had the chance for another enclosure, it would be great to have them each tone swept and metered. It's the subtle differences musically, that can sway to one or the other. For a made-up example, the Skar could have higher overall output across the board, but then the Sundown could have a lower freq roll off. Some want high output, some will take slightly lower output for a wider freq range and accuracy. These days with the technology being way beyond 1990s tech, you CAN have SQ with a great spl output. Keep up the great work, would love to see more
true that.. i have a couple vvx 8 v3s and a couple sa 8 v3s, and the skar has a wider range, and sundown gets louder with more roll off on the low... i prefer the range over the volume.. its so close in the volume, that it doesnt really matter... the sundown definetly seems more durable in the coils tho.... can take more power than skar.. my personal review pretty much yielded same results.. and the same thing happened in 4 different enclosures.... i prefer the skar sound myself.. which suits me, as i save quite a bit of money lol...
I can hear more bass notes on the sundown. ddx sounds like its just good at one bass note. and the sundown sounds louder even though ddx has higher sensitivity.
Take the time to design the enclosures to the actual specs of the woofers and not the generic ones manufacturers post for those who don't know how to figure out box volumes and tunings that actually match the drivers.
I'm a fan of both. Having said that, Skar has always been like a "Baby Sundown" and I agree with the price. As far as SPL competition.. I would have to go with the Sundown. Awesome video as always Parker!
But in this instance doesnt it prove that Skar are infact better in regards to these particular subs. Seeing how he states that the Skar has a 1k watt rating and although looking similar by eye the Skar does have a much larger motor, almost 5lbs. He also states he thinks the Skar hit lows better even though the Sundown has a deeper surround. And then on top of that they are on the same amp but the Skar version is a D4 vc @2ohm but the Sundown is pulling more power due it being the D2 @1ohm which is why he said the SA is louder. If the Skar was a D2 it could well be lower and louder than the SA but for a cheaper price.
@@Pkdimmock it's all about the X max baby. I'm all about flex, move that air.. Bigger motor is is a bonus for Cooling but I'd rather have the travel if I'm going to participate in an SPL competition.
@@MadDragon75 does that also apply to everyday bass too? Although in this test the db was higher on the SA, Jacob said the EVL hit lower. So if the EVL had more power too @1ohm would that not give it the edge? At least in this comparison?
@@Pkdimmock I would have to say it depends on the application. All day normal pounding in the daily driver.. I'd rock the Skar. If you watched Sundown Audio Unofficial, you may notice that Derek is only using 4 subwoofers and burping at 1 frequency the system is tuned to via the tuning wall. Like Parker said, if you can afford Sundown, rock em'! But if you just want a good daily flex at a budget level, Skar has proven themselves to a large crowd. That's why I am on the fence. Both have distinctive qualities. (BTW, Sundown underrates their products. That sub will take 1000 watts too. 😉👍
@@MadDragon75 right right. Cheers for the info. I have heard that Sundown are underrated on a great deal of their products. Also that the only reason Skar is cheaper is due to the fact they cut out the dealers and sell direct which has caused some mixed opinions. I have just got my first single Skar 12 EVL and looking forward to using it. I had an old Audiobahn alum 12 1k running at 3 ohm 5-600w and it was almost enough for me, so the EVL running at 1 ohm should be a nice upgrade running at around 1,100w. I woulda loved to get the new SA v2 but it was just out of reach at the new price point. But I know Sundown come very highly recommended. 👌🏽
I put 1 of the DDX-12's in my Cobalt with the Skar RP-1000.1 Amp and it's phenomenal. I've had it for about a year now and it's still going strong and I beat the crap out of it. It actually got better the longer I've had it. I think it just needed broken in. It probably sounds different in a bigger vehicle like this one but, My car is small so it's perfect. My rear view mirror is basically useless lol.
Same, My DDX 12 D4 is in my 4 Door Civic EX 5 speed. Just the one on a Kicker CXA 1200.1 and My mirrors are useless Lol. I just got through the break in period and my car is holding in for dear life Lol. Now I gatta find those sound dampening things in hops to keep the rattling to a minimum Lmao
Parker here's some Info on the skar ddx sub the guy I forgot his name that left sundown and works for skar created the skar ddx sub thats why this skar sub looks so different from any other skar sub and looks like a sundown sub.
@@FUBuddy or you could get skar evl 12, and blow the sa out of the water for 199. back to what parker always talks about. sundown cool but why spend extra money when i can put the money into something else to improve all of it.
@@Angm0r because sometimes in life you have to pay alotabit more to get a little bit better, and some of the spec differences seem worth it to me. and the good old made in the usa thing. and like the op said whatever fits your budget. also matching them up to amps for home audio and doing all of the math to get the power size and fq for my room just tells me from my years of experience doing math then building boxes that the sundown will be more to my liking and worth the extra penny's...'s's's's's's's.
1tuffzx10 than my 15s? Most definitely! I can’t say if they are better than the Skars. All I know is that these sundowns can take a beating! Got them wired at half ohm on a 8k SounDigital! They go crazy!
I need to share my experience with both brands. I've had a 1500 Watt sundown audio 15. And a skar audio 1500 Watt 15. The sundown did great on clean power at rated power. The skar started to smell on less than rated clean power. I love both brands so I'm not saying one is better than the other. If you are tight with money then the skar is great. But I would have to trust sundown if I would go above rated power.
for skar get the ddx they are damn near indestructible. i have put a 3000 watt amp on 2 10s and they never even got hot and this is at full blast. if you try and put a skar on max power and clipping it then that would be you problem not the subs.
Just picked up the ddx 12 myself. Waiting for it to come in so I can start on a fiberglass enclosure. Going sealed though. Never cared for the ported sound. Had a JL 12w7 in a sealed box a long time ago and have been chasing that sound ever since it got jacked out of my car. Never paying that price for a sub again lol
Would be cool to see you do a comparison stress test on both to see which one plays longer without over heating? Another factor of best bang for your buck is how long the bang can last. I have been researching and comparing these 2 subs past month deciding which one to buy. I've seen the Sundown go through brutal stress testing but not much on the DDX.
Which one did you buy and are you happy with your purchase or did you wish you got the other? Thanks I'm in the same boat trying to figure out which one I should buy
Like your videos bro BUT you really can’t compare two different speakers in the same enclosure and get a real feel for the products because one will always out perform the other because of the Ts parameters of the driver . It’s nice you do these for the new guys and I’m sure it does help a lot but when you get down to the science of things it really starts to make sense why one “plays lower and one sounds louder” and that’s due to many variables.. power ,tuning ,airspace, cabin, frequency ect... also when companies list specs such as “xmax “ the Bl curve is not always tested the same as other companies do so numbers are almost incomparable to each other in that sense .. just giving you some insight and understanding from a guy who knows a thing or two cuz I’ve seen a thing or two 😁
Sundowns are def jumping more. Could be because the box is too big for the sundown or those subs are wired down lower and thusly getting way more power than the SKAR's. Would have liked to see how much power the subs were getting while playing those songs.
@@ruthlesslegion1016 I bet man I ran a crescendo bc 4500 on two xfl 10s and it was nasty. Then upgraded to 2 tnt 15s the new ones on a synergy 2k amp and it did a 153.2db at 38hz :) my next setup I'm working on is 2 hd 15s the carbon fiber models

I have skar 15s and I ha e people asking me to buy my setup without even seeing it and the skar can handle 1000 watts rms its has more cooling and they are both under rated you can probably hit em with 1500 and they would both perform great
@@rhurtadorh32 mine are the sdr and they are rated a 600 rms and people slap 2k on them all day with no issues over hung coil with a wide open basket design I thought the ddx was a better line than sdr
I've been hoping the same thing since he built that box. If you are only running a single sub, and you want spl, I think a single 15 does the job much better. He can almost run a 15 in that box. I believe it's 3 cubes. You can do 3.5 cubes for most 15's.
From what I heard and read about skar company not making good on their products when it breaks, I'll go with Sundown. Customer service and standing by your product means the world to me
Never had an issue with the customer service alway get a response with in 25 hours. I had to make 1 claim in 3yrs. I had 2 sets of their spx65c (4 spx65 , 4 spx_t, and 4 passive crossover on a SK125.4 wired down to 2ohm which is right at 200 wats per channel.. after beating on them for over a year 1 6.5 had a vc seperate. Contacted them because they have a 2yr warranty. Got a rma # with in 2 hrs to ship it back. Once they received it they inspected it and contacted me with in 24hr of getting delivered let me know the result and sent me a replacement. And to add a Lil more to this. If the do determine the damage is from abuse they will still offer you the ability to buy a replacement at a discounted price.
I have 6 ddx 10s in my Tahoe on 2 skar skv 3500.1 an my truck is a beast it's an all skar system been running it for about a year with no problems with skar you really do get the best bang for your buck I love the ddx series sounds great and hits hard as @#$%
Yea I think the wholesale Chinese subs like skar and American bass are actually made pretty dang good and definitely best bang for your buck. It's funny because some people are useing the same exact gear just with a different name slapped on it but payed 5 × the price. Lol! I would definitely go with skar because of price for performance
p nice I have 2 vvx 8son a skv2 1500.1 in my WIFE'S truck with 4 6x8 skars in doors an 2 1" tweeters in front doors an 2 4" super tweeters in back doors sounds awesome about to add 4 more vvx 8s to her truck
The thing with China is every thing comes from there there is high quality and junk skar is high quality the difference is sundown is assembled in America and skar is china all the way that's why they are cheaper they didn't pay for american assembly
I think the long term comparison would be which sub will last longer / blow first. If Sundown last longer then spending the extra money would be worth it.
SUNDOWN hands down. Easy to pic !! I had 1- EVL 18" DUAL 2ohm SKAR had all kinds of problems with it. Then I went to 1- 18" sundown SA-18 REV.3 dual 2 and not only does it sound better but it holds more watts and hits way harder. I have 4 - 12" kicker solo-baric L7's 2 are set at 110kz - 2 are set at 90kz Then the 18" is set at about 65kz and together my expadition POUND'S !!! I couldn't be more pleased then with the sundown 18.
@@erv5890 I've actually just started really looking into the DDX vs the EVL. The DDX has a bigger motor 202oz vs 166oz on the EVL. The DDX has 3db higher sensitivity and more SD cone area because of the EVL fat surround. The only thing lacking against the EVL is the xmax 15mm vs 23.5mm.
Skar is kick asss but I’ve heard those sundowns and they can literally be heart stopping lol but I’ve heard skars do the same thing it’s definitely a hard one! Thanks bud for the vid
Yeah jam is right. Not really rated for sealed. And unless you have a suv to take up the entire 3rd seat area or maybe more. the 3, 15s will sound like crap. My 2 sa12 call for 2.5cubic feet of internal box space
I have personally ran 9 skar audio ddx 12s on a banda viking 15k at .89 with no problem at all. Skar audio ddx's are severely underrated. Best bang for the buck if you ask me but I also love sundown as well.
I had the ddx 12 and loved it and now have the SDR 15 but I want to upgrade the sub in the box...would u suggest I go with the DDX 15 or SA 15...I also see that the ddx has a really good sensitivity rating at 90 plus
I clipped my sundown sa12s rev3 for a year ons taramps smart3. One’s still going built like a tank. Gettting a recone kit for it. Should be back up in no time. SUNDOWN FOR THE WIN
Although money is an object for everyone, you're going to know in the back of your mind that the Sundown is better and you should have spent a few dollars more to get it. I think in your case it depends on how long you going to keep it. If it's until you do the next upgrade and it doesn't matter. If you going to keep it for some years then it's worth it.
I just got to 15 skar in my crown vic and I didn't know nothing about the speakers because I all brought kickers. Now I like skar just a Lil better because of the price and they still hit harder then a kicker too me and that's just my opinion
Great video!!!... But Maybe the Skar would sound better in it's own specific enclosure (size and tuning)?. Can't really compare them equally unless each one of them had a box of their own, because box dimensions and tuning isn't the same for every sub IMO
I have to sa 12 in my 03 mustang and I had to alter my trunk to be able to get a big enough box in there. I also had to get a 220 amp alternator, 1xs D34 ( under the hood ) , 2 xs 900 and 1 xs 750 ( in the car ) a Skar RP 2000, Kicker zx 750 , 2 Rockford fosgate 5x8 ( in the front doors), 2 kicker titanium tweeters ( on the front doors ), 2 Rockford fosgate 6x8 ( in the rear deck) Skar SKv2 1,500, 2 Skar 12 sdr ( 1 down from the DDX) in a B-box, 2 amp fans, 2 runs of 0ga. Ofc, 2 runs of 4 ga. 1 ofc 1 cca, 1 run of 2/0 ofc, a ton of 200 amp and 150 amp fuse block and 4 100 amp glass fuses. I've cracked my windshield 2 time and blown out the rear window seal 1 time! My SA 12's are still going strong three years and my Skar SDR 12's I've blown at least 3 times ( again not the DDX ) my Skar RP 2000 is 3 year Strong on it too that's the one on the SA 12's! The Skar SKV 1,500 with the clipping indicator light on bass knob( 2 years strong) I switch to run the Skar SDR 12's. I would have all Sundown audio speakers and amps if I had the money!!!!!!!
I love the channel but you are wrong with the rms rating on the DDX. They have been PROVEN to take 1500rms daily on a proper enclosure. They are rated very accurately where the sundown is just underrated.
Side note: The skarddx12d2 Bl^2/Re with inductance factored in is often around 100 in independent TS parameter evaluations(iow, real). You wont find any car audio subs that will give you anything like that for $159 or even $459...
Alpha, cant argue that and nobody should. Your ears are the true test and more important than anything! additionally, many times i think i experience a similar but different type of hollow sound not associated with a group delay or phase issues. Just simply a not so engaging sound. Maybe a better structure or bracing was at fault, leaks? But that is typically quite apparent. 👍🏻 good feedback, thanks for that
He was showing you the rating from the manufacturer. the sa can take just as much but that's not a manufacturer recommendation although they could do it if they wanted
Watched this video while in the car this time, was pretty awesome! The DD 712 in my trunk wins 😂. No I still think the Sundown is worth the extra $70. I have owned both and the guy I sold my SAs to still has them and sound like new. Skar is great for people on a budget.
Not on a budget... But I'm smart I bet you them subs come out the same build house. But one say sundown.. and the guy that's not smart.. and got do.. will CHOES sundown!!!
If money was no *object* I wouldn't be looking at either of these subs, that's for sure. It'd be the Peerless 15" STW-350F. BUT that defeats the point of your video. Great job, as usual!
I have two 12in essays in my Mustang I love them. I'm curious if you had both hooked up and head left side during the song and then switch to the right side one speaker each if you would notice a deeper Bass I know to make your windshield wobble
@@e40-l6l I thought he had 2 12" homies in the back pushing on the window, lol the window, you want both of them on double the power you have to wobble your window..
I love the DDX. I'm getting a pair of Skar EVL 12's and a Skar RP 3500. 1D to push them. Already bought a Kenwood Cd blue tooth player with remote. So I get to install all of that in one day. Lol maybe not in just one day. Have a great one Parker. 😎😊
The outcome of this comparison is based on 2 woofers with significantly different specs (the ones that actually matter) in the same box is a bad comparison. These woofers do not need/like the same enclosures.
Was basically thinking the same. No 2 subs are the same reguardless if they appear the same. Quality of materials used or tolerances of said materials all effect woofer ts parameters. Those parameters are used in proper enclosure design. Make 4 boxes 2 ported 2 sealed. 1 at each subs optimum and retest. Also make sure amp can give both subs equal power or its just not a fair comparison.
@@roygeorge902 It's not meant to be taken seriously in the first place. I don't understand why you people think that way this is just an idea of what they can do.
I currently have the DDX-12. It performs more than well for what I need. Since I now have a bigger vehicle, I might consider getting a 2and one. But I'll try the single first.
What did u end up going with? I had the ddx 12 as well and wanted to get something bigger so I went with the 15 SDR but now I want to upgrade that( I only got the SDR 15 in the enclosure bc it was used from Skar for $160) so I'm thinking of another ddx but in a 15 or I'm thinking sundown just to see what all the hype is about
@@trickedoutequinox3265 Just stick with the DDX line seriously its not going to get much better if you're just cruising. No need to spend more than warranted for non-competition listening.
It would be nice to see a 12 inch sub that wants a box as big as this one is. I believe it's 3 cubes. Most 12's don't really want more than 2.5 cubes of air space.
I know the pole piece is different towards the dustcap. dished (skar) vs (sa) extended to a point. Also the different surround styles may make a slight difference. maybe one is more musical vs one is more spl (peaky.) Not 100% sure though
"Money is no object"..... The common phrase is "Money is no OBJECT" ! Unfortunately for me right now, its just like Parker mistakenly says, "Money is no option" :) lol So I'm running an 18" Skar, and it sounds freaking phenomenal :)
For the record because a motor is bigger or heavier doesn't make it better. It all comes down to what grade of Ferrite they are using and how well the motor was magnetized.
Flexin Five Hundred tell that to the motor force figures and mathematically derived specs most notably TS parameter info. Its all hidden in Bl, inductance, Q (dampening) Vas(Cms as a volume of air), friction in Rms.... and then combining for further precise info Bl^2/re. The still not very well represented inductance modeling or seni inductance. simply materials used and build quality. Glue, stitched and sewn... you know this. I had a heck of a time sorting much of it out in the TS parameter interactions or filtering by way of those specs because of what tou said, but kept picking the brains of the designers and PA cabinet makers and wow is that group of great info and experience! Its still something i gotta carry my notes with to discuss at any level, but things are not what any label would make yiu think. A penny spent on a sundown woofer is sadly a complete waste in ignorance and im guilty of former RF fanboy like discission making and regrets.... All i need is 1/3 of that $$ back and a 30 minute browse theu parts express to vastly inprove and dynamically change that which i thought was great... and RF isnt junk. Nor is sundown. But anyone can show you the proof that those both suck and are nearly just a name because of the unsung cheap heros that crush those brands best offerings right up to t3 and nightshade or whatever yu like. Hindesiggt kicks my ass!
They're both nice but it's always gonna be sound preference for me,and as always I still think American Bass has the best bang for the buck 😎 another good video Parker 👍🏻
Skar rates their rms very accurately, There are videos of the DDX pushing 1500 rms daily in the right box so skar is actually under rating it for longevity. Sundown is doing the same thing but they can probably do 1000 rms Dailey in the right box 😌 in my opinion it’s skar all the way (love sundown though!)
I've been using skar subs and amps for a few years now. I used to be a kicker fan then realized I was throwing money away. For what you pay for a good kicker sub, you can get an even better skar sub and save a little money. Right now in running an evl 12 in the skar box. I should actually spend the money and get a box built for it. Not that the skar box is bad, I just think the sub can do much better. Thanks for the video's.
What kicker were you running? I have a couple of vids i have both set of subs the kicker cvx 15s and skar ddx 15s both dual 4ohm and the kicker cvx sounds deeper and louder than the skar ddx. Ive always used kicker but cvx or the L7s 15s ive tried alpine but decided to go with skar but cvx sounded much better
@@rhurtadorh32 I have a cvx 12 and started with about 800 watts on it. It was in a kicker box that probably was a little too small for it if I'm being honest. So now I'm running a skar evl 12 in a factory skar box and it's so much smoother sounding work way more thump. I'll check out your videos, thanks for the response.
Rafas Dad skar bangs and its a good sub i actually like the way it look.I just got a sub box tuned to 34 herts with a 8 inch port and them kickers are slamming hard.what some people dont understand is if you have a prefab box its not gonna sound the way the subs are supousto sound. And people start complaing right away. A correct well built sub BOX is the key for the subs to sound the right. way.
@@bobdodge3171 I was thinking something very similar to what you said. Use something inside to adjust air space and adjust the port length after for frequency, and you can make the box to spec for any sub.
Out of those 2 subs, the DDX sounded more on frequency to me when playing the lower notes while it beats the SA price. I personally would switch to sundown when i wanna upgrade my DDXs
has skar fixed the cone problems yet ? after awhile the cones get holes in them from slapping the terminal/leads on 10 and 12'' . many have had this issue .

@@Avaddon911 but surely if your using a dual 4 EVL @2ohm and then you use a dual 2 SA @1ohm on the same amp without changing any gains the 1 ohm sub will allow the amp to produce more power. So not really a fair test in terms of the skars full potential in this comparison.
Hey Parker love the videos and thank you for the content!!! Would be interesting to see the same price point comparison Sundown VS Skar EVL or VXF or whatever is matching in price to the sundown
Have 2- SKAR Shallow mount 10's under back seat of a Nissan Titan and they hit hard as hell. Can't go wrong with SKAR...they are reasonably priced and you get a ton of bang for your buck.
Christian A. Irvine well if your going to compare subs isnt that an important part of the equation? And he has a meter so I'm just wondering why he didn't. I'm sure in not the only one.
it wouldnt have mattered as the sundown doesnt need a giant ass box like the outdated skar sub. it wouldnt have been a good comparison. perhaps all that you would see is that the skar would be in a potentially better box vs the sundown playing in an overly large box where it might gain a little extra below Fs.
11:11 If money was no OBJECT. Thx 4 comparison, would like to always compare using a spl db meter on window/legal for reference to for other subs you test.
You can’t compare these subs unless you build a correct box for each.. the SA12 only need a 2net where the the DDX12 need 2.5 net. Why? Because the Sundown has a stronger motor and better soft parts. Smaller box means more subs can fit in a given space. That is the $70 difference bro you couldn’t find. That box you test every sub in its way to large for the Sundown. But it in its proper b box and the difference will be very very noticeable.
Ive never had skar audio gear but my only experience with sundown subs was great. i had 2 sundown 12's 500 or 750 rms a piece, cant remember, in a ported box on a crossfire 2k amp and hit a 145.0 DB in a chrysler sebring. They just took the power and kept goin
You kids don’t know how lucky you are. In 1996 when I bought my first sub it was a Soundstream SPL12 for $350. That was a true 400w RMS sub. I blew it with a 500 watt amp. Now you can get a Skar DDX12 for $150 and it will mop the floor with my first sub
I got 2 DDX 15"s on a rp.1500 till I can get a 3000 watt rms amp. i a large slot port encloser tuned at 36-40 hertz 7.5 cubic foot minus sub size and interior bracing and they are clean clear and loudddd

Totally agree, SUNDOWN is a lot better in every single aspect! Sounded a lot more natural and a lot less distortion (Bet it's the dual Faraday rings that Mr. Fuller is famous for!) Sundown Audio is too hard to beat when it comes to Clearity and SQ, I mean their sub's are distortion free, they also use bottomless designs in some of their subs, they do crazy long coil windings, also when it comes to compatibility, their sub's work in small air space and excel easily at low frequencies, their subs are flawless, just don't go oversize!
You can't put 2 completely different subs in the same box needs to be boxes designed for each sub to truly test them. The distortion you think you hear isn't distortion the Skar is hitting harder and the mic can't handle it.
@@fxrsniper1 30 years in car audio and don't know skar copies all of sundowns designs? No you don't have 30 yrs experience. You have 1 year repeated 30 times.
What sub did you build the box for? Also would love to see an EVL vs the SA. More apples to apples comparison. Let's see how much that name actually costs
Parker Dacchille how is the evl better? Not talking about build quality motors or anything like that. Purely sound, how does the sa compare to evl. Evl play lower? Louder? Sound better? Explain to me im really curious my man. Im stuck between these two. I can get reconed sa’s for 159.99 or evl’s. Which would u prefer to have 2 of.
Great job 👍. I just found your channel and have been binge watching. I'm a sub now💯 my brother has two of Skars 8's in his truck underneath the rear seat. If you didn't know that they were 8's and then found out that they were after hearing them. You'd be impressed. I have a 2015 beetle that I'm fixing to do. All the speakers are Skar. I don't remember the type. But there not Skars basic speakers. The 4 6.5's will be ran on a Kenwood 4ch amp and the 10" Skar sub in there box will be on a Rockford 1ch mono amp. With a Kenwood head unit. I went with Skar speakers and sub from hearing his. I can't wait to get it in. Beetles have great shape for good acoustics on the inside.
I agree with your review. For some of us bass heads, more bang for our bucks is the only option, with having a family to support but still enjoy and be into the bass hobbies. Great reviews, bro!
Thanks man!!
Yes that’s what I’m facing right now. A family to support but still want da bass.

I’ve got a pair of those Sundowns in my truck on a 2200W amp, they take that power all day even in a slightly undersized ported box (to fit stealth under the back seat). They’re underrated on power and have sounded great for almost 3 years now.

I've had both but something about the sundown is just makes me feel better but I like skar . And yes those SA hit very hard
What did you meter with the Skar DDX?
Jacob Fuller helped with the design of the ddx that's why it's so similar to the SA v1's.
Was it the same box and amp and car?? When u compared
Wait Jacob, the sundown ceo, helped design the ddx?
@@DirtySouthFlorida3 yes. Everything was the same.
I think skar is much better only because of its cost. You can get a 10” skar sub for under $100 when sundown is selling them for almost $200. Even if the sundown was a hair better I would still do the skar just because they’re half the price. Common sense to me.
Agreed
Yep
i agree. not only that. but the skar subwoofers and products always match up to what they say. they don’t lie and the subwoofers are good quality for the price. nothing against sundown though
Ok but the sundown will still be bumping in a couple years , as the skar most likely won’t last more than a few months
@@younginfamou6053 I beg to defer! I’ve had mine so far for 6 months and they actually sound better now then when I first had them installed.
Love your sub comparison vids and all the extra effort you put into them! This channel is one of a kind, keep em coming!!
Sundown all day! Cant wait to pick out my x8 v.3's!
Both of these are companies I plan on shopping with very soon. Skar for one vehicle and sundown on the other. Gonna be fun.
sa v2 and an evl 12.
Take the time to design the enclosures to the actual specs of the woofers and not the generic ones manufacturers post for those who don't know how to figure out box volumes and tunings that actually match the drivers.
The sundown has a cost advantage regarding longevity. It's only $55 for a recone kit for the sa12. Skar does not sell recones for the ddx
GREAT INFO THANKS!!!!
Pretty sure you can recone the Skar with a Sundown cone

Yes it do
I like the way skar subs looks. More aggressive imo. I just replaced my alpine type r 12 . Skar hits harder then the alpine.

I have been researching and comparing these 2 subs past month deciding which one to buy. I've seen the Sundown go through brutal stress testing but not much on the DDX.

Like your videos bro BUT you really can’t compare two different speakers in the same enclosure and get a real feel for the products because one will always out perform the other because of the Ts parameters of the driver . It’s nice you do these for the new guys and I’m sure it does help a lot but when you get down to the science of things it really starts to make sense why one “plays lower and one sounds louder” and that’s due to many variables.. power ,tuning ,airspace, cabin, frequency ect... also when companies list specs such as “xmax “ the Bl curve is not always tested the same as other companies do so numbers are almost incomparable to each other in that sense .. just giving you some insight and understanding from a guy who knows a thing or two cuz I’ve seen a thing or two 😁
Word ‼️
Sundowns are def jumping more. Could be because the box is too big for the sundown or those subs are wired down lower and thusly getting way more power than the SKAR's. Would have liked to see how much power the subs were getting while playing those songs.

Agreed with the underrated part.
Side note: The skarddx12d2 Bl^2/Re with inductance factored in is often around 100 in independent TS parameter evaluations(iow, real). You wont find any car audio subs that will give you anything like that for $159 or even $459...

Nothing beats digital designs. Period.
If money was no *object* I wouldn't be looking at either of these subs, that's for sure. It'd be the Peerless 15" STW-350F. BUT that defeats the point of your video. Great job, as usual!
Really good point!!!
I have two 12in essays in my Mustang I love them. I'm curious if you had both hooked up and head left side during the song and then switch to the right side one speaker each if you would notice a deeper Bass I know to make your windshield wobble
Sundown definitely smash lows better.
sa's lol not a paper essay lol
@@e40-l6l I thought he had 2 12" homies in the back pushing on the window, lol the window, you want both of them on double the power you have to wobble your window..
Good video was very informative I went with the skar svr 12 d2 I'm very happy with them think you are doing a great job with the videos .bass on dude
Thanks man! I really like the SVR. Great sub for the price
I'm subscribing cause of this vids, that was the best and skar hands down it hits way lower than the sa 👍👍💯💪💪
Glad to hear man! Trying to keep the videos coming
You got brain cells loose if you think skar hit's harder than sundown.
These subs remind me of old school earthquake subs , same style basket similar motor size and stuff . Awesome subs .
It's just to give a general idea of what it can do it's not meant to be a perfect test
I agree, testing subs in the wrong enclosures is lazy. Heading the result of said test is stupidity.
@@roygeorge902 It's not meant to be taken seriously in the first place.
I don't understand why you people think that way this is just an idea of what they can do.
I had both last year....your box not right for that ddx...they get loud in the upper 30s...38hz
Fi Audio Alpha 12 is $170. Rated for 750w RMS and wants a nice big ported box (3-4 cubic ft)
I love them both I've had both using my skar now in my car
They sound equally good so for the price l would go SKAR hands down!
The larger motor structure is what helps give you the higher RMS ratings
Wish he had pointed that point out, thx
"Money is no object"..... The common phrase is "Money is no OBJECT" ! Unfortunately for me right now, its just like Parker mistakenly says, "Money is no option" :) lol So I'm running an 18" Skar, and it sounds freaking phenomenal :)
awesome video, the skar wins as far as price. your getting the same performance for less. good video.
Thanks man!
Do they pack a good punchy bass or nah?
@@marcuskoolrt yes they do 💪
I use skar amps and subs and for the price and quality and sound it’s skar all the way
Skar rates their rms very accurately, There are videos of the DDX pushing 1500 rms daily in the right box so skar is actually under rating it for longevity. Sundown is doing the same thing but they can probably do 1000 rms Dailey in the right box 😌 in my opinion it’s skar all the way (love sundown though!)
skar is rebranded chinese subs😂
@@bradyclark4788so is the Sundown SA series. What’s your point.
Been running SKAR since 2018 no regrets sow far for the price $ you can go wrong actually got 3 SVR and i abuse them every day
Definitely the SUNDOWN AUDIO SA REV 3 (✌🏼💪🏻🔈🇵🇷✌🏼💪🏼🔉🇵🇷✌🏼💪🏼🔊🇵🇷)
I moved to the 1500 watt skar amp and a 2.5 cube box but still didn't get the sound I wanted and thought I should get out of it.
A correct well built sub BOX is the key for the subs to sound the right. way.
Rafas Dad i took my subs out and amps due to the cold weather here in chicago.
Rafas Dad fyi i have them kickers with a orion xtr 2500
That 70 bux is for the name!
I say buy what you like, bump what you like and rep what you like.
Just a thought, why not use Styrofoam blocks to get close to the recommended air space for different subs?
That would adjust net volume but raise tuning freq. Ideally each needs a box built to compliment its TSP'S and EM's.
@@2002ZRX1200R yes. With the port he has would be simple enough.
@@bobdodge3171 I was thinking something very similar to what you said. Use something inside to adjust air space and adjust the port length after for frequency, and you can make the box to spec for any sub.
Good job man!!!! There both broken in I take it. Still a hard decision
Sundown better
It would be a expensive video but I would love to see a sundown x 12 or 15 vs a skar zvx 12 or 15
Out of those 2 subs, the DDX sounded more on frequency to me when playing the lower notes while it beats the SA price. I personally would switch to sundown when i wanna upgrade my DDXs
I agree...I'm thinking of buying the Skar rp 2000. I saw in one of your videos you were using one. Are they pretty reliable and match that RMS? Thanks
Yes they definitely put out rated rms
has skar fixed the cone problems yet ? after awhile the cones get holes in them from slapping the terminal/leads on 10 and 12'' . many have had this issue .
For future reference, the term is "If money were no object", not "If money were no option". Good video though, I agree with your conclusion.
I have a 15” skar sub and I’m pleased with it and plus I’m on a budget just like a lot of other people, great job man 👍
James Marler which one did you get
Jerl Adams Well I think it was the D4.
can we get a Resilient Sounds RS12" review or perhaps comparison with these two?
Is your SA rev 3 a dual 2ohm coz you said your Skar was a dual 4ohm so on the test could that be why it wasnt as loud as the SA?
Good point because I'm running the ddx 2ohm version an they get down
@@bryantthurman6079 also he said that Skar only put 1000w on the box to outdo Sundown but then later said there's 5 lb extra weight on the Skar that has a bigger motor. Thats almost 80 oz.
The ddx 10s weight is 31 pounds an the 2ohm version which I am running hit hard as @#$% I been recommending the skar brand to everyone I have 2 truck running all skar system's mine an my WIFE'S she has the vvx 8s an they are little monsters
Lower resistance coils don't make a sub better. It depends on the amp you're using and what final impedence you're going for.
Pretty much like comparing Honda vs Toyota - both offer a value proposition and reliable
Hey Parker love the videos and thank you for the content!!!
Would be interesting to see the same price point comparison Sundown VS Skar EVL or VXF or whatever is matching in price to the sundown
Don’t you have an EVL? 🙂
The SA would get slaughtered in its price range. The VXF would laugh at 1500 watts clean power while the SA would be holding on for its life.
Another great review. Keep up with'em 👍
I have run sundown audio since 2011. Both are good subs but the sundown audio hands down are better subs to be honest.
Have 2- SKAR Shallow mount 10's under back seat of a Nissan Titan and they hit hard as hell. Can't go wrong with SKAR...they are reasonably priced and you get a ton of bang for your buck.
Why no metering to see spl comparison?
maybe the sundown got a dB or two higher but it’s a budget sub so it doesn’t matter
Brandon Lee glad I’m not the only one who was bothered by the “money was no option” 😂😂
Exactly and this is why I think these tests mean nothing if they're going to be stuck in the same box
Ive had the SA. Get the American Bass XFL, no question about it as that was my next sub and it was so much better imo.
The skar 12 ddx 2ohm I bought only has single medium sized rounded. Why is that? Tinsel leads ?
You kids don’t know how lucky you are. In 1996 when I bought my first sub it was a Soundstream SPL12 for $350. That was a true 400w RMS sub. I blew it with a 500 watt amp. Now you can get a Skar DDX12 for $150 and it will mop the floor with my first sub
With the scar having the larger motor would allow it to handle more power. 1000 Watts may not be too far-fetched
It's not bc I have one
I got 2 DDX 15"s on a rp.1500 till I can get a 3000 watt rms amp. i a large slot port encloser tuned at 36-40 hertz 7.5 cubic foot minus sub size and interior bracing and they are clean clear and loudddd
Good video 2 12s of audiopipes are good like u say Rockville has a new 12 inch super that looks like it'd be great and they don't cost too much w12k9d2 Rockville 3 inch vc and 1000 cea rated watts around 114 dollars
LMAO bless your heart
You can't put 2 completely different subs in the same box needs to be boxes designed for each sub to truly test them. The distortion you think you hear isn't distortion the Skar is hitting harder and the mic can't handle it.
@@fxrsniper1 If you think Skar is better than Sundown you're the one who needs their head checked. Skar is a cheap sundown knock off. Look it up.
@@JoshuasRecordings 30 years in Car Audio go take a seat
@@fxrsniper1 30 years in car audio and don't know skar copies all of sundowns designs?
No you don't have 30 yrs experience. You have 1 year repeated 30 times.
What sub did you build the box for? Also would love to see an EVL vs the SA. More apples to apples comparison. Let's see how much that name actually costs
Oh I’ll tell you right now the EVL is better than the SA. The SA and DDX is about how apples to apples as it gets as far as the build of a subwoofer
And I built the box for the AudioPipe BDC4. It also worked really well with the American Bass XFL, which I had at the same time as well
You should do the BD4 vs the SA sometime
I think the EVL would be a closer match to the newer SA V2 but the EVL is still much cheaper.
What is the longevity of sundown over skar?
