I’m running a sk500 rms Skar amp with an SDR12 box subwoofer. Swapping to an SVR will I see any differences? 500w amp is not even turned up all the way and the SDR kicks ass.
The svr will be more accurate. More punchy and hit lows better. The sdr are great budget subs , the svr is a step up. Box is a factor as well though so keep that in mind but svr should still outperform the sdr in your box.

Just wanting something cheap to make some noise in my $500 Hyundai and bought 2 SDR-10d4. Built a 3.5 cube L-port box and powered 'em with a SKAR RP800.1d. Big 3, 2awg welding cable to fused distro, short run of 4awg to amp. I was floored after getting it playing. Was not expecting 2 cheap 10's ($90 each) to get that loud. I listen to all genres, but like playing metal loud and would have to (politely) disagree about double-kick bass sounding sloppy or boomy. Mines is tight bro. I'm a long-time car audio guy, going back to the old school. Many cars with many systems. I've owned Sundown Sa series, MTX, Alpine and a bunch more subs, so have a frame of reference.
Im on my second sdr set up...i cant even go past the half way mark on the amp they send with it...or it sounds like its rattling or bottoming out... is the svr gonna be able to be louder/ tickle my ears a little more than the sdr? And can my 800.rp amp that comes with the sdr gonna be able to push it?
The SVR handle more power than the SDR. Also the svr don’t bottom out as easily as the SDR. But also don’t be too concerned with where your base game is set at.. some amps the gain settingwill be set at quarter to be set correctly some half. Etc… so just set the gain correctly and don’t worry it it’s at 1/4 turn, half turn etc. is it possible you have the game set to High at halfway? And it’s bottoming out the subs. Just double check.
Gotta remember they are only 2.5 inch coils and xmax is not the best, they will reach xmax pretty quick in a big box so they will not take the full rms you are expecting
I first had kicker comp r 12 then I went to sdr they are nice but now I want to upgrade skar now has the new svr enclosure so thinking about trying it out
The Ddx has a really strong motor which might be why it’s so punchy which I do like, but as you said the SVR being similar size spider and VC but less motor makes it more well rounded I guess, not too sure how having less motor affects the top end but I’ve read that motor force is good for better spl and transient response.
I have 2 12 SVRs and 2 12 DDXs there is a difference in sound quality with the two I agree that the SVR is more balanced but the DDX does get louder I have a smart 3k taramp hooked up to the 2 DDXs I think I may have hurt one of my SVRs one of them have squeak when I push down on the sub.
Do you have an amp recommendation for 2 15” svr dual 4 ohm wired to 1 ohm final been looking at the vfl stealth 4500.1 tryna build a budget system that still sounds good that amp dynos around 1600 at 1 ohm any input is appreciated
I came up on some Alpine Type Rs for dirt cheap and I was wondering if you could tell me about where they fall in line with these lower end subs like Skar low ends. I can't find the important TS parameters anywhere and people don't really talk about them at all.
Anyone know if 2 SVR-12 would fit on a 2002 dodge ram box in depth?or what would be a good size of speakers for a truck? This was a really informative video, I’m barely learning about all this stuff
By punchy and peaky, can you clarify more? When I think of punchy I think of good top end response, 80-120 hz, when I think of peaky I think of large spike in 40-50 hz region, boomy is lots of muddle low freq like 25-35 hz where it’s over powering
By punchy I mean good hard hitting “punch” like when a kick drum hits. When I say “slappy “ it is similar to punchy but has a more whip cracking snap to the punch. So punchy is a good articulate but smooth bass hit and slappy is less smooth and more dry and harsh. By boomy I mean there is resonating tones ( ringing) that aren’t supposed to be there. Boomy can be from ringing or from bad transient response where notes get muddied or mixed together. So these have nothing really to do with frequency specifically but a way to describe the sound. When I say peaky I mean the sub has a narrow range or it’s louder in a narrow range. So it makes certain hz be louder than other hz which. Technically is not good for SQ but a lot of SPL subs are made to be peaky to out out good SPL numbers in a certain range. Keep in mind this is just my way of explaining things. :)
@@radiospank You're very welcome! I try and explain because on video you can't tell anything about how they sound so I try to describe as much as I can so guys can make a decision if its something they would like or not for their tastes.

You can go more than 600w on your stock car. With box rise in real world you will be fine up to about 1500 watts. Because with box rise you’ll be way under that.

Is the svr really that much louder and better than the sdr? And if I do buy the svr I’m going to buy it in the box already is the box that comes with it better than the sdr box ?
It’s a big step up and sound quality and performance yes but it’s not necessarily gonna be louder unless you’re giving it the power it needs. If you get a scar box, get one of the new black bedline ones, those are the best scar boxes.
How would you feel about putting anyone of theses subwoofers in a sealed 1.0 to 1.25 cubic box under seat of dodge ram 1500.and witch sub you think would be best? Like sq but like it loud to.
I currently have 2-sdr 10's under the seat of my 2020 Ram 1500 4th Gen classic on a rp1200.1 Skar amp. I had a sealed box but it has little air space and they sound ok until you turn them up, then they struggle. I purchased a vented under seat box from Rockville for $200. It covers the entire under seat area and its day and night. Cleaner bass and louder spl. I just ordered 2-svr 10d4's to replace the sdr's.
I have a dual 12" enclosure box, and my SDRs blew out. I assume it's because I threw in a 1200 watt amp, but im not the best at sound systems. I wanna put in the SVRs because I am an audiophile, but I would like to know if a 1200W RP skar amplifier would be able to handle two SVRs, or if it would be to overwhelming/underwhelming for my subwoofers?
12" SDR should be able to handle 600W each just fine. Maybe they blew from clipping or just long use failure idk...But the SVR 12" subs will take about 800- 1200 each no problem. THE RP 1200 will be under powering 2 12" SVR subs a bit with box rise factored in.
@@HiFiVector well, the thing is, I don't know how they blew in the first place. I was bumping SDR12s on almost max volume for 3 hours straight and nothing happened, but then I replaced my old amp for the Skar RP1200 and then came the problems. The subs worked just fine with the new amp for about 12 days, and then they randomly went out while I was driving. I had played max volume with the new amp and subs and they never blew out, but they randomly went out in the middle of me driving. The first time it did this, I pulled over, turned off my car for a min, and then turned it on, and my subs started working just fine again, but then a couple days later, the same thing happened and they turned off while I was driving, and my subs turned off again for good. Note: I wasn't blaring loud music, and my subs have taken louder, but they blew at a lower volume???
@@HiFiVector well, I replaced every wire that goes to my amp and subs. I replaced my head unit and RCA cables. So I had deduced the possible problems to just the subs. I even replaced the old fuse and put a new one on. I am assuming I might have a short in the wires, or the wires inside the sub enclosure aren't working
I have the dual sdrs with the rp1500 skate amp, they sound amazing but my side terminal in the box got hot and started to melt the plastic around terminals as well as the nut on the inside of the terminal inside box came loose causing the subs to loose connection
I’m wondering the same thing. I’ve been thinking about switching out my sdr 12 for a ddx in a skar prefab but I don’t know if the box will be big enough.
I have a Rockville 10 inch subwoofer with a built in amp. It has a 500w rating. I was wondering if i could get an SDR 10” and the box/amp be able to handle it? I’m fairly new to subs so any help would be much appreciated 🙏
@@HiFiVector thanks so much for the help dude I really appreciate it. … but I noticed that the Rockville only has one terminals on the woofer while the SDR has two. Would I be alright only hooking up one of the terminals on the SDR?
What model is the Rockville powered sub? If it is the Rockville RVB10.1A model. Then you would need a dual 2 ohm subwoofer and wire it to 4 ohm. So you would use both connections for n the dual voice coils sub just be sure to wire it to 4 ohm as that’s what the built in amp is configured for. Also just double check your woofer mounting depth.
@@HiFiVector yeah it is the RVB10.1a. I was thinking I only need wire it to one of the two terminals and run it. I also considered running a wire from the main wires to supply power to the second terminal. Would it even be possible to plug in to only one terminal? Thanks for all your help 💯
You need to wire both terminals and make sure its final impedance is 4 ohm. Running a second wire from amp wont accomplish anything. You need a dual 2 ohm sub wired to 4 ohms. Or look for a single voice coil 4 ohm sub.
Check the skar website for depth specs. If it’s in a sealed box just need to make sure there is enough clearance from cones surround so it’s not hitting anything when it’s moving . Which on the svr, sdr an inch should be fine. If it’s ported try not to have anything blocking the port.
@@HiFiVector Gotcha, I went with a fox box to get 7” of mounting depth should be plenty. Thanks for the solid review it really helped me choose the Svr over the other 2 options. 👍🏻
The EVL is less slappy than the SVR or DDX. EVL has a smooth nice punchy bass. Also the EVL is not boomy and has very good transient response and accuracy. Do you think I can put a ddx in my skar prefab box?
@@devildog1534yes but don’t be as loud as a custom
Svr 12s can handle twice their rms pretty well
So I can run one svr15 with a rp1200 at 1ohm without blowing it?
I have a SDR-10 in a 0.8 net CF sealed box on an SFB-600 and it's much, much better than I thought it would be for disco, funk and 70s rock. Especially since adding an NVX XBBR2. Going to a 12-1500 watt amp and SVR-10 in a bit bigger box soon though.
@@HiFiVector I have the SDR in the prefab 2.0cu box that comes from Skar Ported. Skar says I can swap the SVR no problems.
Just wanted to know if my amp will be ok!
Thanks for your reply!
Never mind. I missed the "pretend" sdr thing the first time around lol.
Blew my sdr 10 while listening to tool. Funny you mentioned kick drum. Was feeding it with about 1k rms 1800 peak amp. With gain down. It did sound good for a 10. Replacing it with a ddx tomorrow. Hopefully it holds up.
After the ddx go for vfx they sound really good and take a lot of power
So if i have a 1500 watt amp yo push 750 a piece to 2, should I get the SVR?
Or is that not enough watts to push it?
Yes 1500 will be good. You can give them 1000 each but 750 each is fine.
Where would you say the evl falls in with these 3?
I listen to electronic ambient music but also I like metal/thrash. Sorta both ends of the spectrum 😁
Or would you say get the E-10 instead ?
Box is 1.5sqft t-line
The EVL is the best of these for what you are looking for for. They are very musical and accurate for SQ but get down as well.

Do u think the svr on 800 watts would be louder than the 600 watts sdr on a rp 800 watt amp?
Won’t be much of a difference. But the svr will sound better.
I am upgrading my sdr to svr hope that have a difference
You will. SVR is way better than the SDR. It will hit harder and be more accurate.
I had the xvf I think the step down from the zvx. Had 2 15s they were awesome. Now I got 2 12" zvx haven't put them in yet.
I don't like loud as much as I like low hz sq. Would u say the sdr would be best sub at bass around 25hz?

Very good video. Often i see people test car subwoofers and mention nothing about sound but force them to do tripple there rms ratings...
The Ddx has a really strong motor which might be why it’s so punchy which I do like, but as you said the SVR being similar size spider and VC but less motor makes it more well rounded I guess, not too sure how having less motor affects the top end but I’ve read that motor force is good for better spl and transient response.
currently pushing a DDX-10 on 2kw with no issues was running two but I fucked up the surround on the other one
Yea the DDX are louder for sure. Thanks for watching and the comment!

@@HiFiVector ty for clarifying and your definitions are great, the descriptions help alot
@@radiospank You're very welcome! I try and explain because on video you can't tell anything about how they sound so I try to describe as much as I can so guys can make a decision if its something they would like or not for their tastes.

How would you feel about putting anyone of theses subwoofers in a sealed 1.0 to 1.25 cubic box under seat of dodge ram 1500.and witch sub you think would be best? Like sq but like it loud to.
Svr would be good
I currently have 2-sdr 10's under the seat of my 2020 Ram 1500 4th Gen classic on a rp1200.1 Skar amp.
Would a svr ten with rp1200.1 be a good set up cause I’m thinking that’s what imma get for my system
Yes that would be a great setup.
I have a pair of 12 svr with a rp1200 amp. Beats like he'll. Loves 30 to 40 hz.
So the DDX has so much bass you can’t hear the music, right?
I mean you can adjust the level to be lower but for music quality the svr or EVL is better.
Will one EVL 2 ohm be stronger than two svr 4ohm ? ( I’m a newbie )
The EVL is a big step up but
It’s not necessarily gonna be better than two SVR 12s. It just depends on how much power you have your box, etc..
Will a single ddx 12" work for my 1200 watt amp?
Yes
@HiFiVector How about 2 ddx 12"s on a 1200w amp? Probably not a good choice I'd assume?
Better option being 2 svr's for that amp output?

Does anyone know if the svr or sdr will fit in a shallow mount box that’s 6.5” mounting depth? Do these subs need space under it for ventilation?
