If you get knocked by sundown guys for having skar, they just mad they spent double for roughly the same thing. Sundown is like the iphone of the subwoofer world, great product...bad price.
@@ronsimmaculatedetailing6335 the first that comes to mind are the fi subs. For about the same price you could have gotten a fi btl-3, which is well underrated at 2500 rms and xmax of 34mm. Their new subs that just came out are another level if you wanna compare those to the best sundown has. Next the wolfram mercury are sold for about $300 and have similar specs. In the end the majority of output will depend on the build, Jacob viral reached over 155db on a single 12 fi with countless hours on sealing his enclosure an vehicle.
Both of these subs are nice. Like the most of you, I've seen/heard both in big and small set ups and it literally comes down to your personal preference. Sundown usually gets the nod because it's Sundown and yes they do make a damn good product. Skar is considered the little brother or step-brother of Sundown and cheaper so on the surface they'll always be considered second in comparison. At the end of the day, you get what you want and IMO you can't go wrong with either of these. They both have won numerous comps and can hold their own against in their class..... Bass on brothers and sisters!!
Well said! Finally someone that isn't narrow minded. And a brand nut hugger. You are 100% correct. I have Both of these subwoofers and I will say that the ZVX is better quality. Like he explains in the video all the sundown has going for it is the tensile leads, motor and surround. The ZVX has a copper coil instead of aluminum, Thick stranded wire, Better terminals, Better ventilation on the basket, Double seal for the spider And a stiffer spider. Quality wise I would take my ZVX over my Sundown. If Skar would put the Sundown motor and tensile leads on the ZVX it would definitely outperform the X and take more power. They are both 2 of the best brands and subs but like every sub, they have their ups and downs but for the price the ZVX would be the one I would buy. If I knew how to build subs I would put the X motor and surround on the ZVX
@@ThomasShelby-uq8cz I believe the zvxv2 has copper clad aluminum coil to keep it cool, but the other thing is that sundown didn't do is put 8 layers on the coil, the zvxv2 has 8 layers so it can handle more power just like the more robust design of the xv2, I just dunno how much more on the xv2 but with my zvxv2 I'm clamping 14k on 4 18s with my x2 wolfram aw9ks, I don't own sundown subs because they cost way more, now the xv3 is chinese but they still charge even more then they did for the v2 wich it was all murica made, more and more of sundown products are chinese since the owner of xspower bought sundown.
I’ve always had free return label when you’re not satisfy with their product...just message them and say you’re not satisfy and want a label to return...lol happen a few times when I was being cheap and bought their cheap line and had to return within a few weeks..lol
I’ve installed over 50 skar items including subs and amps about half of them being skar only and the rest using one component at least from skar and I’ve had issues with only 5 products and 2 were due to shipping but their customer service has always been great and I’m not a business owner or anything just a side hustle. I have skar sub and amp in my car.
For some reason ppl do not take into consideration the price point of a sub being part of its value. Just like clothing, you're also buying a name. Orion dealers doubled the price of their subs this year killing their value. After this holiday season I'm sure they'll feel the pinch of their mistake. Everyone speaks about quality, but very few have much experience beyond 1 or 2 brands. That's one reason why I like your channel Parker. You're not afraid to test any brand and speak the truth based on performance as well as price points. Thank you for not being a "fanboy". For those that understand how a speaker works in different enclosures, and what their musical preference may be combined with understanding of what different enclosures sound like, we choose a sub based on its t/s parameters, price point, and performance. Unfortunately it isn't until we purchase and use a sub that we can understand its true value based on performance and endurance at its price point. Sundowns handle crazy power I've gott six x10s on two Orion splx 3ks strapped and man they move rediculous air so much that I bought six x15s for my new project and I'm gonna throw one more amp on em 😁
No matter how many different brands I try out, in the end I go back to Sundown's subs, their build quality and output has always just been top notch in my opinion. They are designed for my particular taste in bass and woofer abuse. I haven't had any experience with their warranty customer service, as I haven't ever blown a Sundown that wasn't intentional.
Had mines for 6 years no problem and decided to recone them for less than what I paid for one sub now hoping to get another 6 years out of them. Get the right box made and power and those baby gorillas will shake everything near you

The thing is. The Skar can go over rated rms just like the Sundown can. The sundown however is built way better and can handle way more power. Sundown also sounds cleaner. The skar is a great option if money is an issue. However if you want the best bang for your buck the sundown is the clear option cause its simply just a more powerful, better constructed and sounds cleaner then the skar.
I'm in the money matters group. I went with three sundown x 18s on a recent upgrade. Although they definitely delivered face-melting bass and performed excellently, spending nearly two grand for subs I expected them to to perform considerably better then the soundqubed hdc3 18 they were replacing. They didn't, although they do sound good I would never in a million years recommend any of my fellow baseheads to make the same mistake I did.. soundqubed HDx... Skar zvx... Nearly identical performance at 50 to 60 percent savings.. no brainier!
Damn that’s a great price. I got one of mine used for $250 but the thing is still stuff and barely broken in. The other I paid $350. They great ass subs

I absolutely love my zvx18v2....I run it with an rp2k at 1 ohm in a 7cf box tuned to 32 and it absolutely slaps..I’ll stay with skar for as long as they sell them..my entire car is skar plus 4 extra 8inch skar loudspeakers with a 500watt amp. The zvxv2 isn’t a joke. They are amazing!
Great video. I liked seeing the wiper bouncing from inside your SUV. Both have plenty enough Xmax for anyone. Almost $200 difference between comparable subs is a big thing. Choose your weapon wisely.

Brother, I have had both & I agree that they perform almost exactly the same, but I have had Skar let me down a few times! Maybe it was just me or the way they were setup. As for the Sundowns, well they may be more, but the quality & Customer Service that you receive is top friggin notch!!!! SUNDOWN FOR THE WIN BROTHER!!!!

I see people complaining about the SD cooling system not being "open" like the skars.... remember, a radiator by itself doesn't cool to well, and when you add a fan to it, it cools accordingly. Same with the way the X is designed. To use certain paths to direct flow AND add velocity to cool itself
I have the Skar ZVX-v2 15” and I’ve put that thing in Extreme abuse ! Specially cuz I work out in the Field with friends and I have my system super loud with Epicenter with Latin music all day! Flexing like crazy

I wanna see you replay the metered test but keep the meter in the same location. You moved locations from one side of the kick panel by the passenger door for the skar which did a 144.3 and when you tested the sundown you moved the meter towards the console between the driver and passenger. I'd buy the skar and save 200 bucks for just one db. You could pick up a db by doing better insulation.
The ZVX it's quite a bit better quality too. Double sealed spider, thick copper stranded coil instead of cheap aluminum, better basket ventilation, better terminals, stiffer spider, $200 cheaper etc. All the sunder has better is only a bigger motor, bigger surround (which doesn't really make it better quality and more tensile leads. The ZVX is a lot better quality over all. If the ZVX had the Sundown motor and tensile leads it would blow the Sundown out of the water
Yeah and I noticed he didn’t show how much power it took to get the 145.8. But I’ve noticed a few videos where people don’t show all the Sundown footage.
@@ThomasShelby-uq8cz The coil on the sundown X subs are smaller because they are ABLE to be smaller. Why? Because the sundown actually has BETTER ventilation, not worse. The small slits in the basket allow for a specific, calculated, fast exchange of air as the coil passes by, which cools off the coil waay better than the skar's larger cooling holes. This allows the sundown to use a smaller coil while maintaining the same heat resistance, which also means that there is more room for the spider to stretch, which allows the cone to have more excursion. So actually the sundown is way better XD but you were too dumb to realise it.

Good video. Glad your getting back into it. I've been thrashing on a pair a vxf's and I can't say I would ever consider getting either the very slightly bigger (power wise) skar or the sundown. The vxf 12s have the sound quality with the decent power handling of the zvx and sundown x. I've been beating on them pushing them pasts rated and for sure clipping them when I get carried away and I haven't smelled a thing and they are still tearing my car apart. Literally imo skar ftw

@@Blaaake my beloved Rockford t-1500. Also have a skv2 100.4 pushing mids n highs consisting of fairly high end kicker components up front and kicker 3 way 6x9s in the rear deck. I think the vxf is right on the line of sq and spl when its not stretching out and getting abused it sounds almost as good as the alpine type Rs they replaced. Just a f-ton louder. My wife's hair floats a bit when they get loud. And after they were fully broke in good grief my mirror fell off the windshield the sun visors came free ect. You WILL NOT be disappointed with the vxf's
“UPDATE!” I’ve chose the Skar subs for half the price and they sound and work great for me and my expectations. I’m currently running 1ohm loads w/the Skar 10”SDR(1) w/RP 800 in Skar factory enclosure in my new Civic EX-T and it pounds; I have now swapped the sub to the Skar 10” SVR DVC2 for double the power in their factory enclosure and really makes some thunder. I have also “UPGRADED” my amp from Skar’s RP800 to Down4Sounds JP8 and getting “HUGE” gains in output compared to the Skar RP800 with “ALOT” less voltage being pulled off my New Interstate battery under the hood! JP8 has so many features that are a bonus with best bass knob in the biz with multiple warning lights, readings, & etc; built in fan to keep things cool, plexi bottom to see all the internals, amp is also linkable/slave compatible,(thinking of getting two JP8 to link and a 10” Skar DVC2 EVL sub) and this amp is 0.5 ohm stable! #1: They both have a 3" coil #2: a 144.3 is not the same as a 145.8db #3: You need to include clamped power, with spl score to show which is more efficient.
Outside of db drags, 144.3 is effectively the same as 145.8. Your ears can't tell the difference (thats science, not opinion). 1.5db is not an audible difference.
Honestly I'd go with the skar zvx over sundown x considering it's like 200 bucks less money and basically same. To me though I'd be using that American bass hd over both these subs imo but for the money on the sundown x I would have def got the xmaxx or a vfl js. Great review though man as always.
At that price point I think a head to head comparison between the sundown x and Resilient Sounds Onyx 12 would be great. The onyx has a 4” coil and a huge motor. Way bigger than the x12. Even a B2 Rage Xl is at that price point and you get way more.
Been beating on my two 15" Zv5s for about 3 years now. 1k over rated power on each one the whole time. No issues whatsoever. They're pricey, but I'll stick with Sundown Audio.
An explanation on the cooling on the sundown, the spacer between the basket and motor itself is vented, and it actually cools better than the skar basket even though the venting isn’t as large, because the spider moving up and down causing push and pull pressure, it’s actually pulling air in through those vents and blowing onto the coil while extending out of the motor, moving air at a higher velocity, while on the skar the basket has large vents for the coil, it isn’t moving as nearly as much air so less heat dissipation is occurring .
So you've taken an infrared thermometer to both, in a controlled, and identical situation and setup. Bet that was tedious, good work bro, not being one of the many dummies spouting useless false information online to feel like they know something. I would definitely choose the skar just bc of price. If you're going for a big setup with several subs then the sundown is going to cost a lot more. That's money that can be used for an amp to push the skar. I have 2 VXF 15s now in a C pillar flat wall and I love them. I actually like the VXF better than the ZVX also bc they are more musical but they definitely get loud too.
@MJL both are rated at 1500 rms but the ZVX may be able to handle a little more power. The ZVX can definitely get loud but only in a small frequency range. They are better for spl competition. The VXF is a great musical sub. Plays a wide frequency range and definitely gets loud too. I now have 4 15s in a 6th order enclosure and clamping over 8k watts to them. Even with more than rated power I can play them all day and never get hot at all. They are doing 156db on the meter from the C pillar in a yukon. Most ppl have no idea just how good these subs are. These are hard to beat for the price.
I went with the zvx 15v2 d1 just bc it was cheaper and still pretty damn decent lol I upgraded from a single L7 15” kicker to 2 zvx’s so that was a major improvement for my Tahoe! I absolutely love them and they definitely get loud! I know I’m not the loudest by any means but for what I paid and how my builds slowly getting bigger and better I’m extremely happy with it!
@@GTILOUD it slaps bro I was shocked really. I was iffy on skar since I heard all the negative things everyone says but I’ve had a awesome experience with them. I have a 350 amp alt with the big 6 and 2 stock batteries and a 2k audiopipe amp pushing them. Way underpowered amp for them, I plan on going to atleast a 5k but it bumps man. I definitely recommend them if your in the market. I got some videos posted of them but it doesn’t do it just man.
I bought two of the ZVX 12’s after watching this video like 6 months ago, threw an RP4500 amp on them and just NOW Turned the gain up to like 75% tonight and they are fucking BEATING. I love these subs, never clipped em yet, never smelled anything cooking, they never get hot and if you don’t totally fuck then up or fuck up your wiring they will give you plenty of bass even in a Chrysler 300 trunk / with a GIGANTIC box that is….
The zvx actually is a CCA Coil... More aluminum than anything.. it's why it's FS is crazy high for a woofer that is built that way... It should be really close to the X but it isn't.. it's that aluminum coil they are using.. I know my zvx 15" had a aluminum flat wound coil.. I got a custom recone from directronix and it changed it dramatically sounded much better.
@@gemstatefisherman3409 The memphis Mojo was a beast back in the day. It had about a 5 year run at the top. Those MTX 9500 are great all around. They drill but also have great SQ. Rocksford same way. The solo barics and solo x get really loud and they hit really hard as far as punchy style bass. They do t get real low and not great on SQ but they used to dominate in comps back in the day. Its crazy how good the car audio technology has gotten. Its came a long way and has gotten way cheaper. W7 is a monster with outstanding SQ but its just to expensive. But it there is a difference in to expensive and over priced.
Try the Savard hi-q. It’s $289 I believe. I tested all three with approx 3000 watts in a fourth order 2/1. 1 cube sealed and 2 on the ported side. Tuned to 32hz. Sundown was slightly louder. The low frequency response from the sun down was absolutely no better than it was from the Savard. And it could have just been my ears. I didn’t have a db test meter. Savard sounded the best by far on music. Skar was the worst all around. The Savard at Less than $300 was by far the best value.
awsome subs crazy prices to me ill stay with my 4 wolframs 12s 300 ounce magenets 2000 rms i paid 500 for all 4 on a 12k taramp but i do have a pair of rebuilt 15in sundowns with 350 once magenets i havent even tried yet

I would love to see a DIGITAL DESIGN 9515 VS the best 15" HDX4 SOUNDQUBE sub that they make. I'm not to sure if they're made by the same company but they are both made in the state of Oklahoma 405 area code and they have resemblance in looks.
Ill go ahead and answer this as a DD Dealer. SQubed is their Chinese line that competes like Skar does by removing the middle man. DD Often makes moves to their Redline series based on their American made series, such as removing the 800 series due to its causing loss of sales in their American line of product. The main thing you will notice between those 2 subwoofers is the sound quality would be much better on the DD 9515 as its component make up leads to that. Its often misunderstood that DD makes well built woofers and that the SPL is just a side effect of it being built so well. PS, keep up the great videos Parker.
Hey if your having problems with your garage door rattling real bad as i was when i did any testing in my garage, a few well placed pieces of stick on sound deadner works great. I got a 50 sheet box of KilMat for my car for my 4 12s build i been working on and it only took 2 square sheets that i cut up for my smaller 10x7 door. They work anywhere really, i still need to bass proof the roof vents, walk-in door and my tool chest. Its an OCD thing lol. Surprised that my neighbor hasnt been asking for some of stuff as well. I figure it's worth mentioning- the smaller cooling slots on the sundown are MORE effective for cooling purposes than the big holes in the skar basket. The pressure created by the stroke of the sundown exchanges more air. Same reason subs built on the ti frame don't cool as well as these "proprietary" basket designs, despite having giant holes to radiate from
Could also go with a 15in Skar sub to hit even lower notes and still be cheaper than the Sundown. However Sundown still does have higher quality. You get what you pay for.
Shoooot I got 2 10" a year or so ago DDXs Skar on a black Friday deal of $89 a piece got hooked up to a RP2000.1 and yet to be disappointed lol..... people think I got 4 12s or a pair of 15s in my 98 Sonoma.....
One of the best most detailed reviews 👍👍 Sundown looked like it was smoking at 14:00 or breakin ? Sundowns are built to take more power than rated. Skar had the stiffer spider but seemed to have more flex. Ps get 4 gauge wiring you’ll get more power out the amp.

Maybe my speakers are not picking it up, but the Skar seemed to sound more accurate down low The sundown sounded floppy. Don't spend extra. No way it's worth the diff. No way you could blind pic the Sundown Parker. Pick it because you like it.. What cuft is that box. Looks too big. The subs are unloading. Remember you smoke a sub by keeping it outside the gap too long. Give it some suspension support.

Skar hands down. Sundown is just not worth it. I have two x12’s and two zvx12’s and I always go back to the skar. I have a zvx15 and a x15 and that’s where sundown shines. If you want pure destruction sundown 15’s and up is the way to go. When you’re still messing with 12’s the ball is on any brands court. All up to your preference. Mine is Skar or soundqubed. Every sub you’ve reviewed I had to test out myself. You should throw 6 soundqubed HDS3.2 12’s in this box of yours. $1,101.46 do itttttt!

Skar makes good skv2 korean amps but I'm just not a fan of the subs they make. Too many better options out there. Sound quality hasn't been good with any but 1 skar zvx15 that I've heard. And trying to get a recone? Lol forget it. Skars customer service is non existent. I just try to let people know you're better off buying a refurbished sundown for the same price you can buy a skar subwoofer for and you have a subwoofer that is completely replaceable with outstanding customer service. They have went above and beyond for me and have even called me back when I had a question about my order. Not too many other companies that'll do that. I had to troll on this video because I just plain don't like skar subs. Just sayin
For me, price vs what you get is what matters. Is the ZVX cheaper? Absolutely! But the sundown comes with longevity from the sub itself to the customer service. Plus Sundown actually puts out new stuff whereas Skar just gives you what they can get.

I just bought one of the Sundown xv2 15" subs! And just how Sundown does the quad tensils lead's was enough for me! Lol. I mean guy's when we push these subs in demo's! We need all the tensile lead support we can get! Also the surrounds are phenomenal! Ive hd both Skar and Sundown! I currently have a Sundown zv3 18" dual 2ohm! On Taramps md 8k and 40 ah limitless lithium. With JS 250 amp alternator plus big 3! So replacing zv3 18" With 2 15" xv2 dual 4ohms! Can't wait till I get them both! Oh and I just ordered the 1st one off Sundown's web site on the yard sale boxed subs! So hopefully my 1st one comes in working condition! And only had cosmetic defects 🤞😎💯💨💨💨
I have a 250 amp singer alternator and thinking about getting lithium and between 6K to 8k amp. How’s your voltage holding up with your set up? Are you able to push that amp to the max?

Love the video but I did notice you had a soft clip on the skar zvx and not the sundown. And seemed to shot more power through the skar. I'm a budget minded bass head so skar would be my choice. Just because a sub has a larger surround doesn’t mean it travels further. It only travels as far as the motor will allow with the pole and suspension. Also the Skar 12 Zvx sub is recommended with 3.0 cubic ft. Box tuned at 34hz. So that slit gain may be because your box is better built in perimeters for the Sundown x12. What’s crazy is the both subs are made in the same house just different coils, and specs. If you wanna pay a extra 200 for a more plump surround. Be my guest.

@@ronsimmaculatedetailing6335 the first that comes to mind are the fi subs. For about the same price you could have gotten a fi btl-3, which is well underrated at 2500 rms and xmax of 34mm. Their new subs that just came out are another level if you wanna compare those to the best sundown has. Next the wolfram mercury are sold for about $300 and have similar specs. In the end the majority of output will depend on the build, Jacob viral reached over 155db on a single 12 fi with countless hours on sealing his enclosure an vehicle.
The owner is a POS. That's why most people hate.
Both of these subs are nice. Like the most of you, I've seen/heard both in big and small set ups and it literally comes down to your personal preference. Sundown usually gets the nod because it's Sundown and yes they do make a damn good product. Skar is considered the little brother or step-brother of Sundown and cheaper so on the surface they'll always be considered second in comparison. At the end of the day, you get what you want and IMO you can't go wrong with either of these. They both have won numerous comps and can hold their own against in their class..... Bass on brothers and sisters!!

I have Both of these subwoofers and I will say that the ZVX is better quality. Like he explains in the video all the sundown has going for it is the tensile leads, motor and surround. The ZVX has a copper coil instead of aluminum, Thick stranded wire, Better terminals, Better ventilation on the basket, Double seal for the spider And a stiffer spider.
Quality wise I would take my ZVX over my Sundown. If Skar would put the Sundown motor and tensile leads on the ZVX it would definitely outperform the X and take more power. They are both 2 of the best brands and subs but like every sub, they have their ups and downs but for the price the ZVX would be the one I would buy. If I knew how to build subs I would put the X motor and surround on the ZVX
@@ThomasShelby-uq8cz I believe the zvxv2 has copper clad aluminum coil to keep it cool, but the other thing is that sundown didn't do is put 8 layers on the coil, the zvxv2 has 8 layers so it can handle more power just like the more robust design of the xv2, I just dunno how much more on the xv2 but with my zvxv2 I'm clamping 14k on 4 18s with my x2 wolfram aw9ks, I don't own sundown subs because they cost way more, now the xv3 is chinese but they still charge even more then they did for the v2 wich it was all murica made, more and more of sundown products are chinese since the owner of xspower bought sundown.

I’ve always had free return label when you’re not satisfy with their product...just message them and say you’re not satisfy and want a label to return...lol happen a few times when I was being cheap and bought their cheap line and had to return within a few weeks..lol
I’ve installed over 50 skar items including subs and amps about half of them being skar only and the rest using one component at least from skar and I’ve had issues with only 5 products and 2 were due to shipping but their customer service has always been great and I’m not a business owner or anything just a side hustle. I have skar sub and amp in my car.
For some reason ppl do not take into consideration the price point of a sub being part of its value. Just like clothing, you're also buying a name. Orion dealers doubled the price of their subs this year killing their value. After this holiday season I'm sure they'll feel the pinch of their mistake. Everyone speaks about quality, but very few have much experience beyond 1 or 2 brands. That's one reason why I like your channel Parker. You're not afraid to test any brand and speak the truth based on performance as well as price points. Thank you for not being a "fanboy". For those that understand how a speaker works in different enclosures, and what their musical preference may be combined with understanding of what different enclosures sound like, we choose a sub based on its t/s parameters, price point, and performance. Unfortunately it isn't until we purchase and use a sub that we can understand its true value based on performance and endurance at its price point. No matter how many different brands I try out, in the end I go back to Sundown's subs, their build quality and output has always just been top notch in my opinion. They are designed for my particular taste in bass and woofer abuse. I haven't had any experience with their warranty customer service, as I haven't ever blown a Sundown that wasn't intentional.

The thing is. The Skar can go over rated rms just like the Sundown can. The sundown however is built way better and can handle way more power. Sundown also sounds cleaner. The skar is a great option if money is an issue. However if you want the best bang for your buck the sundown is the clear option cause its simply just a more powerful, better constructed and sounds cleaner then the skar.

I'm in the money matters group. I went with three sundown x 18s on a recent upgrade. Although they definitely delivered face-melting bass and performed excellently, spending nearly two grand for subs I expected them to to perform considerably better then the soundqubed hdc3 18 they were replacing. They didn't, although they do sound good I would never in a million years recommend any of my fellow baseheads to make the same mistake I did.. soundqubed HDx... Skar zvx... Nearly identical performance at 50 to 60 percent savings.. no brainier!
How big an amp you run if you got 3 18's on some sundowns you can run close to 10k on em and wont harm em but they flex and crack glass with ease.

I absolutely love my zvx18v2....I run it with an rp2k at 1 ohm in a 7cf box tuned to 32 and it absolutely slaps..I’ll stay with skar for as long as they sell them..my entire car is skar plus 4 extra 8inch skar loudspeakers with a 500watt amp. The zvxv2 isn’t a joke. They are amazing!

I see people complaining about the SD cooling system not being "open" like the skars.... remember, a radiator by itself doesn't cool to well, and when you add a fan to it, it cools accordingly. Same with the way the X is designed. To use certain paths to direct flow AND add velocity to cool itself

I wanna see you replay the metered test but keep the meter in the same location. You moved locations from one side of the kick panel by the passenger door for the skar which did a 144.3 and when you tested the sundown you moved the meter towards the console between the driver and passenger. I'd buy the skar and save 200 bucks for just one db. You could pick up a db by doing better insulation.
The ZVX it's quite a bit better quality too. Double sealed spider, thick copper stranded coil instead of cheap aluminum, better basket ventilation, better terminals, stiffer spider, $200 cheaper etc. All the sunder has better is only a bigger motor, bigger surround (which doesn't really make it better quality and more tensile leads. The ZVX is a lot better quality over all. If the ZVX had the Sundown motor and tensile leads it would blow the Sundown out of the water

@@ThomasShelby-uq8cz The coil on the sundown X subs are smaller because they are ABLE to be smaller. Why? Because the sundown actually has BETTER ventilation, not worse. The small slits in the basket allow for a specific, calculated, fast exchange of air as the coil passes by, which cools off the coil waay better than the skar's larger cooling holes. This allows the sundown to use a smaller coil while maintaining the same heat resistance, which also means that there is more room for the spider to stretch, which allows the cone to have more excursion. So actually the sundown is way better XD but you were too dumb to realise it.
Sundown's aproach to cooling is smaller vents, to provide higher air velocity, to move the heat farther away from the sub.

Good video. Glad your getting back into it. I've been thrashing on a pair a vxf's and I can't say I would ever consider getting either the very slightly bigger (power wise) skar or the sundown. The vxf 12s have the sound quality with the decent power handling of the zvx and sundown x. I've been beating on them pushing them pasts rated and for sure clipping them when I get carried away and I haven't smelled a thing and they are still tearing my car apart. Literally imo skar ftw

Also have a skv2 100.4 pushing mids n highs consisting of fairly high end kicker components up front and kicker 3 way 6x9s in the rear deck. I think the vxf is right on the line of sq and spl when its not stretching out and getting abused it sounds almost as good as the alpine type Rs they replaced. Just a f-ton louder. My wife's hair floats a bit when they get loud. And after they were fully broke in good grief my mirror fell off the windshield the sun visors came free ect. You WILL NOT be disappointed with the vxf's
“UPDATE!” I’ve chose the Skar subs for half the price and they sound and work great for me and my expectations. I’m currently running 1ohm loads w/the Skar 10”SDR(1) w/RP 800 in Skar factory enclosure in my new Civic EX-T and it pounds; I have now swapped the sub to the Skar 10” SVR DVC2 for double the power in their factory enclosure and really makes some thunder. I have also “UPGRADED” my amp from Skar’s RP800 to Down4Sounds JP8 and getting “HUGE” gains in output compared to the Skar RP800 with “ALOT” less voltage being pulled off my New Interstate battery under the hood! JP8 has so many features that are a bonus with best bass knob in the biz with multiple warning lights, readings, & etc; built in fan to keep things cool, plexi bottom to see all the internals, amp is also linkable/slave compatible,(thinking of getting two JP8 to link and a 10” Skar DVC2 EVL sub) and this amp is 0.5 ohm stable! Honestly I'd go with the skar zvx over sundown x considering it's like 200 bucks less money and basically same. To me though I'd be using that American bass hd over both these subs imo but for the money on the sundown x I would have def got the xmaxx or a vfl js. Great review though man as always.

At that price point I think a head to head comparison between the sundown x and Resilient Sounds Onyx 12 would be great. The onyx has a 4” coil and a huge motor. Way bigger than the x12. Even a B2 Rage Xl is at that price point and you get way more.

Sundown seriously underrates the subwoofer rms rating. A 2500 watt rms sub is recommended to have a salt 4k.

Been beating on my two 15" Zv5s for about 3 years now. 1k over rated power on each one the whole time. No issues whatsoever. They're pricey, but I'll stick with Sundown Audio.

An explanation on the cooling on the sundown, the spacer between the basket and motor itself is vented, and it actually cools better than the skar basket even though the venting isn’t as large, because the spider moving up and down causing push and pull pressure, it’s actually pulling air in through those vents and blowing onto the coil while extending out of the motor, moving air at a higher velocity, while on the skar the basket has large vents for the coil, it isn’t moving as nearly as much air so less heat dissipation is occurring .
So you've taken an infrared thermometer to both, in a controlled, and identical situation and setup. Bet that was tedious, good work bro, not being one of the many dummies spouting useless false information online to feel like they know something. I would definitely choose the skar just bc of price. If you're going for a big setup with several subs then the sundown is going to cost a lot more. That's money that can be used for an amp to push the skar. I have 2 VXF 15s now in a C pillar flat wall and I love them. I actually like the VXF better than the ZVX also bc they are more musical but they definitely get loud too.

@MJL both are rated at 1500 rms but the ZVX may be able to handle a little more power. The ZVX can definitely get loud but only in a small frequency range. They are better for spl competition. The VXF is a great musical sub. Plays a wide frequency range and definitely gets loud too. I now have 4 15s in a 6th order enclosure and clamping over 8k watts to them. Even with more than rated power I can play them all day and never get hot at all. They are doing 156db on the meter from the C pillar in a yukon. Most ppl have no idea just how good these subs are. These are hard to beat for the price.

I went with the zvx 15v2 d1 just bc it was cheaper and still pretty damn decent lol I upgraded from a single L7 15” kicker to 2 zvx’s so that was a major improvement for my Tahoe! I absolutely love them and they definitely get loud! I know I’m not the loudest by any means but for what I paid and how my builds slowly getting bigger and better I’m extremely happy with it!

I have a 350 amp alt with the big 6 and 2 stock batteries and a 2k audiopipe amp pushing them. Way underpowered amp for them, I plan on going to atleast a 5k but it bumps man. I definitely recommend them if your in the market. I got some videos posted of them but it doesn’t do it just man.

I bought two of the ZVX 12’s after watching this video like 6 months ago, threw an RP4500 amp on them and just NOW Turned the gain up to like 75% tonight and they are fucking BEATING. I love these subs, never clipped em yet, never smelled anything cooking, they never get hot and if you don’t totally fuck then up or fuck up your wiring they will give you plenty of bass even in a Chrysler 300 trunk / with a GIGANTIC box that is….
The zvx actually is a CCA Coil... More aluminum than anything.. it's why it's FS is crazy high for a woofer that is built that way... It should be really close to the X but it isn't.. it's that aluminum coil they are using.. I know my zvx 15" had a aluminum flat wound coil.. I got a custom recone from directronix and it changed it dramatically sounded much better.
Now you just need to get the orion hcca 12 to compare them with those

@@gemstatefisherman3409 The memphis Mojo was a beast back in the day. It had about a 5 year run at the top. Those MTX 9500 are great all around. They drill but also have great SQ. Rocksford same way. The solo barics and solo x get really loud and they hit really hard as far as punchy style bass. They do t get real low and not great on SQ but they used to dominate in comps back in the day. Its crazy how good the car audio technology has gotten. Its came a long way and has gotten way cheaper. W7 is a monster with outstanding SQ but its just to expensive. But it there is a difference in to expensive and over priced.

As far as skars warranty, it’s extremely fast and easy, I sent product out on Saturday and get replacements the following Saturday.
Try the Savard hi-q. It’s $289 I believe. I tested all three with approx 3000 watts in a fourth order 2/1. 1 cube sealed and 2 on the ported side. Tuned to 32hz. Sundown was slightly louder. The low frequency response from the sun down was absolutely no better than it was from the Savard. And it could have just been my ears. I didn’t have a db test meter. Savard sounded the best by far on music. Skar was the worst all around. The Savard at Less than $300 was by far the best value.

I would love to see a DIGITAL DESIGN 9515 VS the best 15" HDX4 SOUNDQUBE sub that they make. I'm not to sure if they're made by the same company but they are both made in the state of Oklahoma 405 area code and they have resemblance in looks.
Ill go ahead and answer this as a DD Dealer. SQubed is their Chinese line that competes like Skar does by removing the middle man. DD Often makes moves to their Redline series based on their American made series, such as removing the 800 series due to its causing loss of sales in their American line of product.
The main thing you will notice between those 2 subwoofers is the sound quality would be much better on the DD 9515 as its component make up leads to that. Its often misunderstood that DD makes well built woofers and that the SPL is just a side effect of it being built so well.

Hey if your having problems with your garage door rattling real bad as i was when i did any testing in my garage, a few well placed pieces of stick on sound deadner works great. I got a 50 sheet box of KilMat for my car for my 4 12s build i been working on and it only took 2 square sheets that i cut up for my smaller 10x7 door. They work anywhere really, i still need to bass proof the roof vents, walk-in door and my tool chest. Its an OCD thing lol. Surprised that my neighbor hasnt been asking for some of stuff as well. You dont have that problem though. KEEP BASSING BROTHER!!! 💥🔊🔊👍😎

I figure it's worth mentioning- the smaller cooling slots on the sundown are MORE effective for cooling purposes than the big holes in the skar basket. The pressure created by the stroke of the sundown exchanges more air. Same reason subs built on the ti frame don't cool as well as these "proprietary" basket designs, despite having giant holes to radiate from
I own the Zvx v2 15. Skar Audio all day. I also own the triple SDR'S 8's by Skar Audio.
Could also go with a 15in Skar sub to hit even lower notes and still be cheaper than the Sundown. However Sundown still does have higher quality. You get what you pay for.

Skar had the stiffer spider but seemed to have more flex.
Ps get 4 gauge wiring you’ll get more power out the amp.

Maybe my speakers are not picking it up, but the Skar seemed to sound more accurate down low The sundown sounded floppy. Don't spend extra. No way it's worth the diff. No way you could blind pic the Sundown Parker. Pick it because you like it.. What cuft is that box. Looks too big. The subs are unloading. Remember you smoke a sub by keeping it outside the gap too long. Give it some suspension support.

Skar hands down. Sundown is just not worth it. I have two x12’s and two zvx12’s and I always go back to the skar. I have a zvx15 and a x15 and that’s where sundown shines. If you want pure destruction sundown 15’s and up is the way to go. When you’re still messing with 12’s the ball is on any brands court. All up to your preference. Mine is Skar or soundqubed. Every sub you’ve reviewed I had to test out myself. You should throw 6 soundqubed HDS3.2 12’s in this box of yours. $1,101.46 do itttttt!

Skar makes good skv2 korean amps but I'm just not a fan of the subs they make. Too many better options out there. Sound quality hasn't been good with any but 1 skar zvx15 that I've heard. And trying to get a recone? Lol forget it. Skars customer service is non existent. I just try to let people know you're better off buying a refurbished sundown for the same price you can buy a skar subwoofer for and you have a subwoofer that is completely replaceable with outstanding customer service. They have went above and beyond for me and have even called me back when I had a question about my order. Not too many other companies that'll do that. I had to troll on this video because I just plain don't like skar subs. Just sayin
For me, price vs what you get is what matters. Is the ZVX cheaper? Absolutely! But the sundown comes with longevity from the sub itself to the customer service. Plus Sundown actually puts out new stuff whereas Skar just gives you what they can get.
I personally like the zvx SKARs I’m running 2 18s at 1ohm with a taramps bass 5k around 14.8v full tilt with 2 31 Odyssey Agms

I just bought one of the Sundown xv2 15" subs! And just how Sundown does the quad tensils lead's was enough for me! Lol. I mean guy's when we push these subs in demo's! We need all the tensile lead support we can get! Also the surrounds are phenomenal! Ive hd both Skar and Sundown! I currently have a Sundown zv3 18" dual 2ohm! On Taramps md 8k and 40 ah limitless lithium. With JS 250 amp alternator plus big 3! So replacing zv3 18" With 2 15" xv2 dual 4ohms! Can't wait till I get them both! Oh and I just ordered the 1st one off Sundown's web site on the yard sale boxed subs! So hopefully my 1st one comes in working condition! And only had cosmetic defects 🤞😎💯💨💨💨

Love the video but I did notice you had a soft clip on the skar zvx and not the sundown. And seemed to shot more power through the skar. I'm a budget minded bass head so skar would be my choice. Just because a sub has a larger surround doesn’t mean it travels further. It only travels as far as the motor will allow with the pole and suspension. Also the Skar 12 Zvx sub is recommended with 3.0 cubic ft. Box tuned at 34hz. So that slit gain may be because your box is better built in perimeters for the Sundown x12. What’s crazy is the both subs are made in the same house just different coils, and specs. If you wanna pay a extra 200 for a more plump surround. Be my guest.
