Blue Boy is a pseudonym for the Scottish DJ, Alexis 'Lex' Blackmore.
The single Remember Me peaked at #8 in the UK Singles Chart in February 1997. The single also went to number two on the American dance chart.
The track is built around two samples from the 1973 live version of "Woman of the Ghetto", a 1969 soul song by Marlena Shaw, originally recorded for her album The Spice of Life. Near the end is the line: "Remember me? I'm the one who had your babies", in reference to African-American maids raising white children for little pay.
#BlueBoy #RememberMe
Gosh! I have been looking for this song for 2 decades and I have finally found it. I missed it so much. When I first heard in back in 1997 or something like that, I thought it was quite strange music, especially the guin guin verse.
Same here too, a simple advert on UA-cam tripped my memory banks and here I am.
I saw a pumas’s sneakers commercial and it was there,,, just fantastic
This makes me nostalgic for the 1990s all over again. The acid jazz, trip-hop sound, can’t be beat!
🍏pi day
and 0:34, very Kruder&Dorfmeisterish
perfect song for the time
totally...it gives me a visceral reaction xx
“Remember me? Cause I’m the one who masturbates”
Those were the days
Ipnotico ❤
first girl .. first time in love .... first failure ... first time broken .... first time to get back on my feet .... and all comes back with Remember me :) outstanding
I want the 90’s back!
yep !!!!
The 80s were better.
i want my mtv
No only this song
An street fighter 2 and Terminator 2
90's was the great Stephen Hendry era :)
Absolutely love this track. What a, classic
I know right😂
one of the most underrated tunes of its day.
It can still rock the crowd over 20 years since its release
A truly visionary piece of work.
This piece will be in my heart of hearts til it ceases.
It's not underrated though
never got the airplay it deserved.
@@kathrynwhitby9799 yes it did. I used to hear this alot on the radio when I was growing up which is why it's so nostalgic to me. It wasn't overplayed though so I think it got the right amount of airplay tbh. If something is overplayed it gets annoying, no matter how good the tune might be.
I thought the lyrics were:
“Remember me? Cause I’m the one who masturbates”
Those were the days
This was massive and got to no 8 in the UK charts, staying in the charts for 13 weeks. Difficult to think of that achievement as underrated, it was played everywhere.
One of the coolest songs ever!
90’s best era of music.
This came on during an episode of Derry girls and reminded me to play it again for old times sake. Absolute classic!!
😄It was the same for me, shame Derry girls ended.
That is exactly why I'm here now! Series 3 on pause whilst I relive the track!
Fir me it was on dream team series 😂
Same here!!
Nothing says total frickin 90s vibe than this tune. Classic.
The 90's were pretty decent.
I thought the lyrics were:
“Remember me? I’m the one who masturbates”
Those were the days
Total zeitlos... Das hört man 2156 immer noch 😎
Easily and by far the best version! Pure class. 90's WAS the dance decade. Was, Is & always will be!! ;))
The Tame Impala cover gives the original a good run for it’s money though
I thought the lyrics were:
“Remember me? I’m the one who masturbates”
Those were the days 🎉
The most engaging song with only 2 lines of lyrics, ever! Fantastic video too.
timeless ... still here in 2024
Great tune & great use of Marlena Shaw's "Woman Of The Ghetto" sample
Awesome.. Love this.
April 2024 👌
13/April/2024
i literally woke up to this on the radio this morning, lets just say that i actually enjoyed waking up
Well, to quote Megadeth, you might wake up dead one day.
That was a good day!
Marlena Shaw should be proud of
Great song. I love the 90s, so many good memories.
I remember this song was played a lot in Sweden in the radio station NRJ. Back in-97. Then I was only 18 and digged this a lot!
One of the best songs of the 90's💝
Takes me back 👍 Who says repetitive music doesn't work?
P.S. the lady singing this song, Marlena Shaw, passed away 2 days ago at the age of 81. R.I.P.! 😟
This song is simply poetry in motion with such deep, elaborate themes and topics.
There's greatness in simplicity! A simple great song!!
I always sing "guin, guin, guin, guin, guin, guin, guin, guin" to my guinea pig using the tune from this song when it is feeding time
This is the most wholesome comment ever
Sorry I know this is an old comment but I pictured this vividly and died 😂😂😂
@@Neeneenugget I read this comment months ago but, every time I hear it now, I think of this Guinea pig, haha!
The greatest and most innocent comment on UA-cam, brilliant.
Ha!
I remember the 90’s…..I’d come back in that golden age when I was young. 😢
Truly a timeless classic !
Rest in Peace Marlena Shaw who is sampled in this song!
here is the original = ua-cam.com/video/WaQTwVPvCAU/v-deo.html - where blue boy got the sample from

Blue Boy (also styled The Blue Boy) is a pseudonym for the British DJ, Alexis 'Lex' Blackmore. He is best known for "Remember Me", an international dance hit in 1997 which peaked at #8 in the UK.[1] Blackmore first worked as a DJ in Glasgow and London, touring with the British electronica group The Shamen in 1991
This is when samples were actually done well. Best song of the 90s for me
here is the original = ua-cam.com/video/WaQTwVPvCAU/v-deo.html - where blue boy got the sample from
2022 and JJJ played it the other morning and ……wow…. the memories 💓 what a song!! School drop off was never so banging
awesome underrated 90's track, one that used to get played a lot in the clubs.
Jamie Warrior Warlord McCallum I would love to hear this in a club. I bet it's pure vibes.
Damn!!!!!!! How I love this song! I listened to it once in my life and the chorus sounded incredible to meeeeeeeeeeeeeee! And I've been repeating it since then! And I've just found it. Thank you UA-cam.
What a track... blast from the past!! 😎
Love this song its been swimming around in my head for over 24 hours now
NEVER get enough!!!! Stands in line with THE DJs Fat Boy Slim and Moby
I remember this, one of the best dance tunes of the 90's
Remember this record to well
They don’t make such amazing music Today 2022 You got to have talent!
They didn't in 1996 either. It is 80% Marlena Shaw's "Woman of the Ghetto" from "Live at Montreux" (1974)
@@simonjones7727 Aye, but 80% of making sample-based music is (or, was) digging for records, finding the samples, "hearing" what will go together well and how, and doing it with style. The OP is right in a way - it wouldn't be made today in the DAW era because music was better when equipment and methods were simpler and options were limited. A snippet was also used in Rose Rouge by St Germain - another simple, classic sample-based song of the era that was basically this and the drums from Take Five.
@@RunOfTheHind Fair enough. As far as I know Shaw was amused and honoured by the use of her sample. She died this year and was one of the greats. If you don't already know it check out her "Who Is This B*tch, Anyway?" album also from 1974.
What a song ! Awesome. Love it. Classy, sassy. Fab u lous.
heard this song in a clothing store today and the memories came flooding back :) definitely a good flashback for friday
Love the way they shot this video. You don't always need a big budgets, just creativity.
Check out Utah Saints, ''Something Good'. Bangin' track and a VERY smart video.
Wy2 doing Eve

Me too ❤️

I’m lucky, I survived the nukes and had a steady supply of clean water and food.
Three out of four people in my circle didn’t survive

🎉😊
I love this song ❤❤❤
Brings back a lot of amazing memories of clubbing!❤❤❤
Good song, it's different.
Thank you for the video.
I remember reading an old interview with David Holmes in the late 90's where he mentioned that this is a song he "absolutely detests", which I've always found ironic, since this doesn't sound a million miles away from the kinda sound he normally goes for himself in his _own_ productions! In fact, if I didn't know better and someone told me David Holmes produced this, I'd probably believe it
All the way back to the 90s 🤩
Temaso de 1998...jose from paraguay
just heard it on the radio and I instantly recognized it... had to look it up.... I just knew it was from the 90's
here is the original = ua-cam.com/video/WaQTwVPvCAU/v-deo.html - where blue boy got the sample from
remember the 90's best time to be alive :)
Ah, yes... The 90's.... No hipsters... marvellous times!
*sips*
Feelsgoodman
ACTUALLY the 80s were the best time to be alive, but the 90s were still fucking cool, no question about it, However, i would stipulate... EARLY 90s because once we started getting closer to 2000 it wasn't the same anymore
just 'perfect' like '60s
Ask people from ex yugoslavia about 90s....
Fantastic .., I can fell all the instruments, the singer has a unique voice .., well done when is real music
