The Verve's "Bitter Sweet Symphony" is an evocative journey through life's complexities, with its haunting melody and profound lyrics. It captures the essence of struggle and redemption, wrapping you in a symphony of emotions that linger long after the last note fades. Truly an unforgettable anthem. 🌟🎶
This song.... played on repeat when my marriage ended in 1997. We were just 26, 2 baby girls & a broken family & heart....so painful. Yet I find with every life change, even now, this is the song I find to play. I cry, feel justified & accept that yes, I can change. Imo, this is one of the best Gen X songs as it’s so relatable in a million ways.
I am 26, one kid, and a completely broken marriage. Yesterday me and my "Wife" if I can still call her that made our minds up that maybe it's for the best we just called it quits. Then today in the morning on the way to work this song plays. The funny thing is that the lyrics almost read my life. I unfortunately have been through life changing experiences at a young age and therefor suffer from extensive bipolarism. I can be mellow one minute, and the next I can loose my shit. It seriously depends on what's said to me or how its said. It hurts knowing that my daughter may be raised with separated parents. But man, this song was like spot on for me. Almost made me feel like I am not the only person out there.
You guys might be taking Luke Munro’s comment and the lyrics out of context? Slave to the money then you die, I believe, means we all have to earn money to meet even our basic needs...no money means no food, no shelter, etc., you work your whole life to earn cause you have no choice therefore the slave part....and the, then you die part, is you gotta do it your whole life! Now the part you have control over is how hard or long are you willing to work for stuff you dont actually need...you know, the toys...the hot car, big house, etc., the older you get or the poorer you are, the more apparent this becomes. So, yes Luke Munro , I agree very true words! A sadder sentiment is those who actually believe, he with the most toys wins....you can’t take it with you when you die baby! Either way this is a great song!💜

the walking down the street is a metaphor for ones life and the people he bumps into are the lives he touches throughout his journey. hes essentually alone until hes joined by his mates walking along the same path.

I can resonate with this song and video so much. I feel powerless to change my behaviour of my life due to circumstances beyond my control. My path is mandated and is not chosen by me. I can't really accept this path but I have no choice. I will be in perpetual conflict with this situation. The song and the video about Richard Ashcroft walking down the road is a metaphor of this conflict.

My interpretation: The people he bumps into and the objects blocking his way are symbols for the hardships in his life and the obstacles that prevent him from being truly happy
My interpretation is that no matter what happens, he is still walking in the same path. Our lives are predetermined by society's expectations which creates both disassociation and apathy for others. We go to school, we get a job, we feed the war-machine and then we die.

Thats deep
Music can make you remember you emotion of the moment so well which can be a good thing and of course a bad thing. I wish you well in 2021 Crystaline
life hits hard...but keep your head high girl and never give up..god bless
@@quinto4547 Wishing you a better time ahead.

‘Slave to money then you die’ no truer words have ever been spoken

Lyrics-
'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony that's life
Trying to make ends meet, you're a slave to money then you die
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
Where all the veins meet, yeah
[Chorus]
No change, I can change
I can change, I can change
But I'm here in my mould
I am here in my mould
But I'm a million different people from one day to the next
I can't change my mould
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
(Have you ever been down?)
[Verse 2]
Well I've never prayed, but tonight I'm on my knees, yeah
I need to hear some sounds that recognize the pain in me, yeah
I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind, I feel free now
But the airwaves are clean and there's nobody singing to me now
[Chorus]
No change, I can change
I can change, I can change
But I'm here in my mould
I am here in my mould
And I'm a million different people from one day to the next
I can't change my mould
No, no, no, no, no
Have you ever been down?
I can't change it you know, I can't change it

It's August 2023 and this song still gives me same vibes as when I was listening to it while walking nonchalantly in the streets of London ❤

The Stones were feeling generous. Ashcroft is a tool.
@@busterbiloxi3833 there still a sack of shit there humans after all
Please elaborate Dana
I can resonate with this song and video so much. I feel powerless to change my behaviour of my life due to circumstances beyond my control. My path is mandated and is not chosen by me. I can't really accept this path but I have no choice. I will be in perpetual conflict with this situation. The song and the video about Richard Ashcroft walking down the road is a metaphor of this conflict.
This song resonates with me. I play it all the time. A true masterpiece!

What is it about
I dont know how people find this song like it has a christmas vibe. I find it nostalgic and kind of sad
Ja Morant I just searched “songs with violins in them” 🤷♀️
sometimes christmas can bring out the demons even more and songs like this just feel right
Ja Morant i just spent like 20 minutes looking for this song so i just looked up that one song with the violin intro
Me toooooo.. I find it quite sad
Agree it's a little down beat but has memories attached including Football world cup events although that didn't go to plan. I expect the verve find it more sad as they didnt make a dime as the rolling stones manager claimed all the royalty fees... anyway happy new year...
I swear this is the best song i've ever heard. It elevates the spirit soooo high.
Jonathan C LMAO
Not the words, the mood and the music. I understand.

Mmm great song but a pessimistic concept. It makes out the world is just some pit of despair. The world is also full of amazing progress and experience
Too bad they ruined it with this disgusting video. How would YOU like to be mowed over intentionally by some arrogant asshole?
I'm so graetful with my dad for showing me this masterpice 😊
Dont loose your soul after listening to this song, but understand it,it has a deeper meaning,it makes sense when your in deep stuff, like addiction to drugs, depressed or searching yourself.i love it,its one of the great composition s ever created🔥🔥🔥
The more I listen the more I kinda understand it. You just hope that one you love hears it as you are....

I saw him in Brazil. He bumped into me a few minutes ago, he's still walking and ain't changed yet. My shoulder still hurts. But i'm still here in my mold.

this song is fucking therapy
@@joey727 this song is exactly my outlook on life, a lot of the things that happen get me so upset it leads to having a dry edgy sense of humor and it just inspires sarcasm.
Example
Some lady complaining that my exhaust is too loud on my car while her 3 year old son is about to walk into the middle of a main road
Sounds like a personal problem
2. Walking into Taco Bell asking for a quesarito then being told they only give them to customers who order online.
“Oh so you do have them! But you’re just not gonna give me one?”
My ex girlfriend creating problems, thinking she’s perfect, when I’m there doing everything I can yet I always get blamed for someone else’s personal issues.
Ever since I just wanna walk through my timeline and knock down and shove every single problem people have with me out of the way
@@joey727 with no stress from paying a therapy bill

@Max Is Watching You it was just an awesome era just wish I was a little older to better have experienced it my friend I was a teen in the 90’s
Reminds me of my college years, when I was good friends with this beautiful woman, educated, and sweet. Then she left for Texas for a job offer, I just remember being so distraught. I gave her a big hug and that was it. I was very fond of her.
A great comment. I'm with you!
My interpretation: He wants to test how antisocial one can be before getting fined by a police patrol.
From the looks or him, heroine is his largest hardship
Thanks for clearing that up cause I was trying to figure out the point of this song/video.
This has be one of the best song ever written. A truly masterpiece
Indeed.
It's ashame they sort of stole it from the rolling stones. And had to pay nearly all their royalties.
@@incognito96 they used one more note than agreed. I’ve hated The Rolling Stones ever since. All the money they have they couldn’t give this band a pass. It’s a shame what money does to people. That’s the reason this band broke up
@@PAC. The Rolling Stones returned 100% of royalties for the song to The Verve in 2019. And publishing rights forever. They relinquished even their own rightful share, probably as a goodwill gesture, apology, etc.
"Mick Jagger and Keith Richards signed over all their publishing for 'Bitter Sweet Symphony,' which was a truly kind and magnanimous thing for them to do." - Richard Ashcroft of the Verve via NPR Music - 2019.
You have to consider that the suit was filed by one of the Stones' lawyers and a former manager, Allen Klein, who is a scumbag and who benefited greatly financially. The band members don't always know what goes on behind the scenes. I remember hearing Richards found out about it, and initiated the process of rectifying the situation
