This was my Dads favourite song. He loved this silly film clip. It's the 3rd anniversary of his death today. Still gives me a giggle and makes me smile thinking of him on hard days like today. Peace and love to anyone missing someone. Rest in peace pops xxxxx

It would make me dance in a circle with the others....lol
Me and my dad used to dance around the living room to this when I was a kid. We'd really go for it too, proper going nuts. He passed away 3 days ago. And he requested this be one of his funeral songs because it's "our" song. I love you so fucking much dad. I'll miss you forever.
Bless his precious soul, and you and your family's precious hearts! ❤
Every time you hear this song, you’ll have a little piece of your dad with you. RIP 💜🕺🏼💃🏽

A lot of people don’t realize but it honestly takes a lot of skill to dance that bad that well
It's an equally blessed skill to dance bad..equal in freedom to a good dance

I remember watching this on MTV back in the day and being like "who are these people and why are they so enthusiastic and yet dancing so weirdly". Many years later, now I know. Its not about how you dance. Its about the joy OF BEING ALIVE AND AMONG OTHERS YOU TRUST LOVE AND ENJOY BEING WITH. Thanks Fatboy!

God I miss the 90's, early 2000's. Please take me back.
I'd start with the 70s!
That's my very best wish too!!
You all wouldn't last 5 minutes without the Internet.
Me too! I would give my kidney to go back.
Couldn’t agree more!!
The story of the video is pretty amazing. Its deliberately made as a bit of a joke to look cheap. MTV originally rejected it for broadcast as they thought it wasn't professional TV standard. Then Norman Cook had to explain it was meant to be bad. The song took off, people thought the video was hilarious, and against the odds, it ended up winning the three awards at the 1999 MTV awards!
When they were filming, someone was frantically running around getting legal permission from all the people in the background shots so it could be used.
Spike Jonze looks so darn happy
Tech Geek... I'm glad they pushed to get it out. It's an anthem for all sorts of tributes
I sincerely think this music video is one of the best of all time. I love flashy stuff too, but there’s just something about how sweet and real this video is that I love.
@@bluegyrl75 💯Facts
Thanks for explaining that Tech Geek. I didn't know the video's history, I just like it.
The UA-cam generation will never understand how baffling and exhilarating it was to witness this bit of counterculture appear on cable television in 1998.

UA-cam most fun videos were only possible thanks to this kind of disruptive culture that they started back then.
Those were really fun times. Being different actually meant something not artificial.
the 6 piano notes/chords that make up the melody of this song feel perfect. This is a perfect song to symbolize the end of an era in your life. graduating HS/college, moving out of a living space, a friend moving away, etc.
I find it so refreshing to see that people back then just stood there and watched the group performing and nobody's filming with their smartphones. Feeling quite nostalgic right now.

Nobody cares. People like you are narcissists who want the attention of the world on them at all times.

Everything Spike Jonze touches is gold!
Thank you Fatboy Slim for the memories back in 1998. 2022 and your music still motivates this 65 year old to get up and...DANCE!
Dig it! Right on my friend! Born 61'
its from slovak einstein series
Absolutely. I first heard this song in 2009 while riding to a work appointment with a favorite coworker. It came on the radio and she squealed with delight, cranked it up and seat danced while we drove to the appointment. Now, 14 years later, I work from home but when it came on the radio the other day I remembered that afternoon and cranked up the volume and started dancing around my home office.
this was before anybody even knew what a "flash mob" was
A flash mob is a flash mob. Cavemen formed a flash mob to dance during the middle of their dinosaur barbeque. Perhaps you mean “before the expression ‘flash mob’ was coined.”
@@satchelsatchel oh my god shut up bro.
This video is so weird and I love it. And I really liked to see the people standing around and actually _watching_ and not filming. Many things were great before the time of iPhones etc etc.
This is dance in its purest form, immaculate.
This song means so much to me, it was played at my fathers funeral and I can’t tel you how happy I am every time I hear it, just thinking back about all of the good time we had together
I'm sorry for your loss

Sorry for your loss. It's on my final playlist too.
I have to praise you like I should.
I’ve cried watching this a couple times before, there’s just something that gets to me in how silly yet completely serious they dance in front of everyone
Its the humbleness of being yourself that caught you ;) Try it for yourself. You might enjoy being edgy
every performance is silly in a way
For me it's the fact that they all look like they could be perfect strangers, ordinary people. And yet they all come together to dance in syn. Not extremely well, but that's not the point.

Thank you Mr Cook for creating this masterpiece and thank you Camille Yarbrough for unknowingly creating the backbone of it all those years earlier. ❤️
I'm Brazilian and this initial introduction to the song reminds me of a gospel song here in our country. It's incredible how universal the song is because it's practically the same melody
best music video ever made. Nobody cares how they look or what others think of them, just free, having fun, and being stupid. Pure innocence. The guy who doesn't understand why they are enjoying themselves who shuts down the music is a prime example of people who aren't comfortable in their own skin. I think it's brilliant. There's a message behind the video in my opinion.
playful times are important!

I was deep in the trenches of a ballet company when this video came out. A lot of us looked down on the video in a very snooty way, claiming it was not "real" dancing. Nowadays I realize.. this is EXACTLY how dance is supposed to be!
Hell yeah
No you were right. As a teen, I thought the dancers were exploited handicapped adults 🥴
Well...it was acting so yeah
@@deionamariemuhammad628 lol the dude dancing is spike jonze!
it looks awkward because this is all a prank, they just showed up and started making a music video in front of this theater because they thought it would be a good concept for a film but obviously they look nervous and like they're making things up because this was really a one and done thing- they are being kicked out like the guy shutting the music off.
Just met Norman today and had an awesome chat with the legend. Could not believe it was him. Such a great guy
I love when people get together like that, create this energy and do something incredible like this.... god i miss the 90s
apparently this was filmed “guerrilla-style” (without the location owners’ permission), so nobody in the background knew what the hell was going on (except for Norman, obviously). so yes, all of the reactions are 100% genuine. they really just happened to witness a flash mob dancing to Fatboy Slim.
I believe they were actually dancing to a different song.

after all these years, this still cracks me up. this is probably one of the best music videos of the 90's. this won 3 vmas from mtv vma in 1999. initially i thought this was scripted, like the "background audiences" were paid actors. this was actually for real, they didn't even bother to get any permission from the theater's owner to do this cult like dance in front of that place lmfao.

dont worry, eventually eye implants with recording will be invented and then people will watch again... with their own eyes... well, not their own own eyes...
also if on every event someone with good camera would be recording and uploading publically, people wouldnt have to record by themselves to preserve the moment... but since they can't rely on others they do it themselves, with their crappy phone cameras, because otherwise the moment will be gone and will become just a fading memory slowly getting destroyed in the brain

Arsenal FC aka,
This video and song is a conduit of psychological expression in my personal life. I was recently divorced when this song came out and had very negative feelings and remorse. This one song gave me permission to be me and to just say "Fuck it, I am having fun!". Life is good. Enjoy it while you have the chance. I am sure there were other people feeling oppressed at the time and feeling like it was time to "Praise You". This song represents a very positive and pivotal time in my life. Thanks goes out to Fatboy Slim!
