      My wife does salmon an easy way. Skin side down, a light layer of mayo on the top and sprinkle with rosemary, dill and whatever catches your fancy. Wrap tightly in aluminum foil and bake. I forget how long but somewhere around 20 minutes. Considering some eat salmon raw, level of cooking is to your desire.

    Taking over the counter Omega-3 from fish oil supplements (i.e. containing both EPA and DHA), in addition to Alpha-Lipoic Acid (in addition to exercise and intermittent fasting) my triglycerides and fasting blood glucose are EXTREMELY LOW. My HDL rose 10 points, but LDL also rose somewhat. However, without an NMR lipo-profile blood test, I cannot know whether the LDL is is the safe "big and fluffy" kind or if there are lots of small oxidized LDL particles. But more than likely, since blood sugar is low, I don't have many small oxidized LDL particles. I try to eat fish when I can, but taking Omega 3 fish oil softgels is a pretty convenient way to get a good dose of Omega 3 consistently. (It's hard to say it was specifically from the high dose of Omega 3 I've been taking, but HDL went up 10 points, and LDL up 25 points, 3 months after I started taking them, so those seem pretty significant to me.)

    Does anybody know if there's a difference between fish oil and cod liver oil? And if no difference what is the benefit between one over the other? I went to Duane Reade to pickup my first bottle of fish oil but then saw these two side by side and couldn't decide which to buy, I have been hearing good things about these two for years so I figured I'd do some research on which is better so I can go purchase a bottle of either one.

    I've been reading a book on nutrition and what Ive came across (reading about fats) was that "trained athletes may not benefit from supplementation because their anti-inflammatory responses are already enhanced sufficiently as a natural response to their training.
    While sever inflammation may impair healing, complete suppression of the inflammatory response may also reduce the effectiveness of the body’s normal pair and adaptation process; therefore, there is insufficient evidence to support supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids to suppress acute inflammation."

    In my nutrition class in college the professor asked everybody in the class to eat as perfectly as they could for the entire week and write down everything they ate. At the end of the week we all tallied the nutrition from each day. Not a single person got a 100% rda of everything for any single day. Also in doing research on single vitamins such as Vitamin D (latest covid research), many studies have found a good portion of the population is deficient or insuficient in many vitatims. I work in a hospital lab, we test for some vitamins (like D) and a recent search for our D test show every person tested was D deficient. I disagree on supplimentation for that reason. As for Omega, I love sardines. (highest omega and lowest mercury content of any fish) I just eat them when nobody else is around. lol

    • @MajdMD
      @MajdMD  3 роки тому +4

      That sounds like a very interesting class! My Q to you is this - just because you test “low” on Vitamin D, it doesn’t mean it’s clinically significant. Also, expert groups do not agree on what “normal” Vitamin D threshold is (20 vs 30). Just some food for thought :)

    • @datsuntoyy
      @datsuntoyy 3 роки тому +1

      @@MajdMD Many at my place are testing below 20, some below 10. Some of the covid an D studies I've seen show below 30 has an increased risk of infection. Some suggest that levels above 50 even have benefits over 30. There really does need to be some unity on D levels. My personal feeling is 30 should be the min to shoot for.

    Brilliant Video. I have recently started taking Omega 3 Fish Oils 1000mg, for about a month. I only just realised I used to have a very slight issue with sight from time to time like a slight blurriness. I just thought was maybe due to tiredness, fatigue, I didn't pay it much mind, but I'm thinking my sight feels really good like quite strong now, defined or maybe more focused I should say. Not sure this is a direct effect of the Omega 3 Fish Oils but it really could be.

    if i'm not able to maintain a healthy balanced diet in my current situation, do you think taking a multivitamin and some fish oil is a good idea? i bought them because i realized my diet wasn't the best, and i didn't want to miss out on being healthy. i hope i didn't make a mistake :/

      Probably -- however, it's hard to say since i don't have your medical records. Make sure to review it with your doctor to determine what your nutritional needs may be and which supplements may be worthwhile to take. Always best to get nutrients from your diet, however.

    It's extremely difficult to find fresh wild caught fish in Ontario, so I take Kirkland wild salmon oil. If I lived somewhere like Newfoundland, NWT, or BC I would eat fresh fish. Farmed fish is gross.

    I've seen lots of comments like "Take Omega-3 containing at least 250mg of EPA + DHA" @4:40. The labels on the supplement bottles always list EPA xxmg and DHA xxmg, and total Omega 3 fatty acids xxmg (which is usually more than the EPA and DHA added together). My question is, "at least 250mg of. EPA + DHA" -- is that 250mg of EACH, or 250mg of the two added together, so for example 125mg + 125mg? Thanks. This has always confused me.

    I eat salmon once a week for the heart health benefit. I used to take fish oil supplements, but I didn’t like the taste, which stayed with me for hours after taking it. I switched over to krill oil from Costco, and it works much better for me in that regard. However, it is lower than your recommended dosage, containing only 60 EPA and 30 DHA. I wonder now if it’s even worth it.

    • @MajdMD

      @@adecuire6601 Ideally, yes -- but if you were to go that route, i'd make sure to meet with a licensed dietician to make certain, b/c pregnant women require extra nutrients and calories and the prenatal vitamin is to make certain they reach their goals.
