Did you know there were different types of calcium supplements? If you learned something new from this video, please let me know what that is here in the comments!
I have been on Nexium for 24 years and this is the first I've heard about calcium carbonate not absorbing well. Will be buying some calcium citrate. Thanks!
It is safe to take calcium pill everyday? Does the pill calcium like milk cow calcium, I mean the benefit are the same.
First of all, speakk slowly.
Calcium is one of the most confusing topics. I’m trying to learn how to optimize my nutrition, and this is easily the most complicated topic I’ve encountered.
Same lol
Feel it
Did you ever figure it out, I’m confused on it as well
Same here! I don't get much in my diet but not sure if I should supplement or not. R.D said to for me as I get 300mg a day
No mention of vitamin K2. That's like a movie without a director.
Yeah...
Absolutely poor video. No K2 mention...no magnesium mention...collage or strontium, and no boron mention!! But....shes a medical Doctor!! She wouldn't no about being healthy.
I recently found this out. Take vitamin D3+K2 now!!
I've been just told my bone mass low for age,I've celiac disease, was diagnosed late,so I've been put on calicichew and vitd prescription ,but listening to different opinions, I'm worried I could be doing more harm that good,I'm in my 30s
Bless u and your daughters. Didn't know about bone meal, Coral lead which is all over Amazon.
Beautiful & very bright children - congratulations!!!
Awe thank you so much for your kind words!
Why they all DOCTORS Just talking about CALCIUM CITRATE Or CALCIUM CARBONATE????? What about CALCIUM LACTATE GLUCONATE??.. Is it safe????
Hey, your videos are great and very informative.can I ask one thing- will be the need of calcium per day for a 22-30 aging bodybuilder will be the same as the table (1000mg) or will it varies? Do i need to increase the amount?
Amazing Information as usual and your medical assistants are the best ❤👏🏻,so adorable 🥰 God bless
thank you for the very kind words and for watching :)
Having your sources in the description made me feel so much better ty
I found at a male that when I took calcium supplements, my blood calcium level was higher. I was taking calcium with magnesium, now I just take magnesium. I do ear vegetables and sometimes drink milk.
I'm going through puberty now, and i need a lot of calcium if not i feel weak bones.
Most of the milk are pasteurize,so it useless.
Same goes to plant calcium which bind usually with oxlate.
For adults calcium is not needed,i found that hard cheese are a good source, but they're expensive if made by high quality.
For adults D3 and k2 are more important than calcium.
For kids calcium is important.
I am so lost between these doctors..
Some say calcium is good and some say no is no good for you.
You have to take a gamble and take form of calcium i think the best is ground egg shell.
@@marasadi8182 that's basically wishing for kidney stones, the type of calcium inside of egg shells are carbonate which highly dangerous especially for adults.
Raw unpasteurised dairy products are the best, what happens when you pasteurize them the protein in the milk changes and you can't absorb it.
If you already past the age 20 i suggest to focus on mobilization of the calcium in your tissues and blood stream into the bone, with D3 and K2.
Where dis you order K2?
I guess now we are talking health advice from pre teens on the internet. Granted K2 and vitamin D is important ....adults do still need calcium and supplements can be useful . The body uses different forms of calcium and so different sources are important so not just supplements but food too and I think deciding how to take both or just one is based on lifestyle and what one can access within reason .
My question is, *what kind of calcium is best to take in supplements?* I know *calcium carbonate* is *NOT* a good form of supplement to take. So which form is good?
WOW! I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT A DOCTOR WOULD RECOMMEND CALCIUM CARBONATE! I asked this question before getting to that part in your video where you tell people it's okay to take calcium carbonate. You may as well try and chew on the cement out on the sidewalk!
Was hoping to find out about calcium with magnesium. Don’t they have to be together for calcium absorption? Surprised to hear about the study you cited regarding older women & calcium contributing to kidney stones. Just had lithotripsy surgery for 10mm kidney stone. My urologist recommended calcium citrate to counter oxalates. But if that study shows it to contribute to stones, I’m scared to take it!
Btw, I’m lactose intolerant. Thanks for the great food chart!
My pleasure!
Thank you so much. God bless you
You and the youngngs again awesome, I needed to know All that, thank you
lol thank you -- i hope it was useful info!
Is 1000 mg or 1200 mg calcium supplement, elemental calcium or total calcium content of the supplement? 1000 mg Calcium Citrate Malate would have 210 mg of elemental Calcium as it has 21% elemental calcium. So should I consume one 1000 mg calcium citrate tablet or 5 tablets each of 1000 mg calcium citrate to get a total of 1050 mg of elemental Calcium each day.
You have ridiculous amount of presentation skills for a doctor, Just mind blown!!! Many thanks for do this, also say hi to those cute intelligent ladies!!
So are nutri grain bars good🤔
thanks a lot. really helpful :)

30 mg a lot for a multivitamin having calcium? My doctor said to take a multivitamin but he didn’t say what to have in it
Calcium I hope is ok
Feeling sorry for those people who was about to write a specific comment and suddenly heard that skeleton is made out of plastic. 😓
Your daughters are adorable. Keep them in.
I wish you had focused on other aspects of calcium, eg it's role as a neurotransmitter.
Thank you for the kind comments. I try to keep the topics focused otherwise it will be super long. But i will certainly cover other aspects of calcium in future videos, thank you for the suggestion and for taking the time to do so!
@@MajdMD Thanks. I am low carb, and have had great success. Haven't got my electrolytes in balance yet (mostly calf cramps) so would welcome any videos about that.
My calves have always cramped, but is especially bad now. Well, not right now, but often. I suspect I haven't got it right yet so would welcome any data to sort it out.
Still love your daughters!
Joan M Thank you so much for your kind words! I have done a video on leg cramps prior, not sure if this is the type of info you’re searching for, but here’s the link: ua-cam.com/video/Ct3PW5-ehDw/v-deo.html . Leg cramps are so painful :( i hope it helps in any way.
Thank you! Very useful.
Harry Westworth Thank you so much, I’m happy to hear it’s useful in any way!
Please can you do a video on vitamin supplements for women wanting to conceive xx
I’m 14 should I take a 500mg pill once a day?
At that age you should probably want to get all or most of your calcium from your food intake, if you want to take supplements you'll need to make sure you take 1.3 grams a day, that would be about 3 pills of 430 milligrams each, and you'll have to take them at different times a day. Example one with breakfast, one at dinner at one at lunch.
Always best to get it through your diet!
My supplement doesn’t tell me the source (oyster, bone meal etc) of the calcium. Would the manufacturer be required to disclose that on their website?
Yes, it should say "carbonate" or "citrate" etc.
@@MajdMD Carbonate and citrate are a type, not a source.
Hi what language you speak except English?
When eating Lactose free diary products, do they still contain enough calcium?
I m lactose intolorant. So can i take my calcium needs from calcium supplement?
What about sea moss and calcium Phosphate?
so why calcification of arteries
I am 33 year old Male can I take calcium/zinc daily! Thanks
Sweet input from your medical assistant's corner and "Bonz."
I am 16 either I take calcium carbonate Or calcium citrate?
wait so, calcium supplement vs milk, which is better?
Definitely milk! = actual dietary food = food is always better than supplement (milk has a good amount of calcium too around 300 mg elemental calcium per 8 oz)
Great medical assistants!
Thank you! :)
Hello Doctor, what about Dicalcium malate? is that better than Calcium citrate or carbonate? Can I have your suggestions on this one please?
Lovely smart kids😚
Good info! Love the earrings!
Lol thank you so much :)
How many hours apart should I take calcium supplements. 2 pills are equivalent to 500 mg , therefore, I take twice per day. I also take other supplements and medications. Thank you in advance for your response.
i don't think it's a specific number of hours, as long as you split them up throughout the day -- taken together will not absorb all of it. And my pleasure, thank you for watching!
@@MajdMD Thank you for your response.
Thank you for this video
Thanks alot for concised information
She said people take Calcium Carbonate because it’s best absorbed but Take with food. Then Calcium carbonate is not absorbed. Is she reading. Not to sure if she is a dr
Hmmmm, did i make a boo-boo? At which point on the time line are you referring to? And yes “she” is a medical doctor :)
@@MajdMD It near the beginning and it’s contradictory to me. I had to find another video to get the information I needed. Actually I had to view a couple until 2 videos pointed out the dangers of taking calcium supplements and their link to heart attacks and especially older people.
@@karenshelton1240 coming from a student pharmacist who just graduated: calcium needs an acidic ph in the gut to be absorbed. Calcium carbonate is best absorbed with food since carbonate is not already acidic (stomach produces acid to digest food) and is better absorbed if taken with sources of acid like vitamin C, orange juice. Calcium citrate however can be taken with or without food since citrate (citric acid) is already acidic. In addition, calcium is best absorbed with vitamin D (in which most calcium supplements already contain vitamin D)
Also, calcium carbonate has 40% elemental calcium (the actual content we need when counting how much calcium we contain) and calcium citrate has 21% elemental calcium. Although calcium carbonate has a higher content of elemental calcium, it is cheaper because it does not get absorbed in our body as well as the calcium citrate does (since calcium carbonate requires an acidic stomach). Unless you take calcium carbonate with food (acidic food preferably), it is more convenient to take calcium citrate since you can take it with or without food (dont need to worry about acidic ph in the gut)
@@karenshelton1240 she also said in the beginning people take calcium carbonate the most. (Just because its more commonly seen, not because it is best absorbed) She specifically said calcium carbonate is "better absorbed when taken with meals" right after that sentence just for correction!
Thanku
Aaryasa Ghimire my pleasure. Thank you.

Dr,, 1 cup of milk in the world's purest form too, cannot help with.300 mgs of calcium. The is is just shown on the chart and seems to be talked.
You wanna say 1.5 litres of milk is sufficient for daily RDA?
Thanks, very informative.
