@@theresamiller1446 He was talking about the ones packed in vegetable oil like soy or canola. Olive oil is an oil from a fruit and won't spike your insulin levels. Another problem with vegetable oils is that most soy, canola, etc. is genetically modified to be immune to applications of RoundUp, so you're probably getting traces of glyphosate in them.

Sardines are available in olive oil. Put can of sardines in a bowl. Squeeze in a lemon or lime. Add half a finely chopped onion. Mash it with a fork. (Optionally add some Kaitaia Fire - a flavoursome chiili sauce). Delish.
I eat almost everything on this list-that I can afford-but I eat sardines in olive oil(admittedly, not the highest quality)because I read oil preserves the nutrients in the fish better than water. Besides, I pour off most of the oil when I open the can.
The Season brand sardines sold at Costco are pretty good too although they have the head and a lot of bones removed. Really good on avocado toast using coconut or almond mug bread toast.
I don't like anchovies at all and I thought that I want to like sardines. Well, I tried sardines for the first time last week and if I had a can every day since. stuff is amazing!
I love cod livers they remind me of Foie Gras. In the Costa Del Sol, Espana most bars serve tapas and my favourite is/was fresh anchovies we would just pick them up with our fingers and dip them in flavoured oil or marinated similar to seviche, delish!
I was vegan for 3 years and during those 3 years I developed annoying heart palpitations and tachycardias, I think I even suffered a mini heart attack one night! Anyways 1 year ago today I started zero carb/carnivore/keto... And my heart palpitations and problems disappeared within the first month! This to me is the ultimate testament to humans needing to eat meat. Also not to mention all the brain fog from all the legumes/grains and lack of proper dha/epa! Wow I was even anemic I think too because my hair would fall out when ever I rubbed my head.. it would fall out tons. Anyways glad to be losing weight on high fat moderate protein carnivore diet now. Also doesn't beef liver have decent amounts of dha/epa?
Hi Luis, love your comment, thanks for sharing! I don't think liver is that high in omega 3, it's probably very similar to muscle meat. Brains, however, are sometimes even higher in omega 3 than fish.
where do you think all those animals got that 'proper' dha and epa omega 3s?? And what role does omega 6 from animal protein have in our ability to process omega 3s?
Good going man! The human body is quite complex and I think it’s important to be critical towards what you eat and most importantly, find what works for you. Great going!
The problem is not with the vegan diet but the vegetable Oils you are using that is rich in omega 6. For me eating once or twice a week of fish and the rest is plant-based. Do not use refined Vegetable oil.... what you were lacking is omega 3.
Great video...badly needed since most people don't eat nearly enough EPA or DHA. I wish you had given a chart of EPA/DHA per serving for each of the 8 suggestions.
Thank you for this video! I am just starting to figure out how to get enough omegas in my diet everyday and this video gave me so many ideas. Very helpful.
This is such a great video.Thank you. A question: you mentioned too much vitamin A is not harmful in fish. What about the huge Vitamin A units in organ meats? Lamb liver, for example? Off the charts...
Thank you for this post. I will say though I am concerned about the salt content with some of the fish. Can you get sardines in no salt or low salt? I love sardines but I quite eating them cause of the high salt. I am very sensitive to salt. 🙏
Good article, still in last years have been consuming a lot of fish oil supplements and helped me a lot to elevate from 1 to 1.4 my HDL and halve my TG levels. Sure that could be also thanks to keto I started approx at same time, but when stopped taking supplements HDL went down to some degree and TG up. MCT oils added to that effect on HDL I usually had it around 1.6. Tested few years, keeping diary, doing monthly lab exams, ... have no doubt about. So I would not say supplements does not work (if one can't eat high quality fish for any reason). Still monitoring, but since I went carnivore it looks like my sensitivity to fish went down. Before I had histamine reactions after eating few times in a row fish, ... now for last month (and 2+ months on carnivore) I can eat fish daily (mainly wild salmon) and even 2 times per day. Monitoring mercury levels, so far very low. Still for now consuming also omega 3 supplements because I have stocked them. Later will see.
@@szymonbaranowski8184 At that time I was using BIOTech USA for year or two, later have been trying various others. @@KenDBerryMD I would caution anyone who buys their sardines packed in olive oil. I put such a can in the refrigerator for 5-6 days. When I opened the can the oil remained quite fluid (without any signs of rigidity), which was an indication the olive oil was laced with a cheap Omega 6 oil! I regularly buy my EVOO imported from Greece from Trader Joe's made exclusively from kalamata olives, which is an excellent oil. When I found another EVOO imported from Greece from kalamata olives from another store sold at a cheaper price, I bought it, but I found the oil to taste differently. Since I still had both bottles, I placed them both in the refrigerator for several days. The true EVOO from Trader Joe's would not pour out of the bottle, but the fake EVOO flowed freely from the bottle! Buyer Beware!

I've been semi-carnivore (I eat meat with berries, herbs and spices from seeds like cumin) for a while coming from keto. I love red meat, sometimes white meat, eggs, small ocean fish like mackerel, sardines, herring, and sprats (their heads are my favorite part) on a regular basis. Mussels, salmon and cod liver perhaps twice a month. I'm in Europe and it was said that cod liver caught in the North Atlantic is somewhat safe but shouldn't be consumed too often. Cod liver from the Baltic Sea is contaminated with heavy metals and Germany has prohibited its sale and distribution. I'm not a big fan of cod liver and my partner isn't a big fan of sardines with their bones and skin and sprats with their heads, so I make fish pate of sardines, sprats and cod liver. If anyone finds these fish disgusting for their looks, this is a great way to overcome the repulsion and make them yummy. And trust me, they ARE yummy! They are just not very pretty. 🤪
Can we get enough omega 3 eating without eating fish? The RDI for omega 3 is high, but maybe it was set for people who have a lot of omega 6 in their diet.

I don't dare eat seed oils so I put my 2 tablespoons of homemade avicodo mayo, 3 tablespoons MCT oil, 2 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil 3 tablespoons fermented sauerkraut mix it with 3 tins of sardines just like I make my tuna salad minus the eggs, and its actually very good, so only the sardines condiments and water, that amount kept me satisfied with 3 meals a day, and I was never hungry, all cravings went away, this is the first time for me ever eating sardines , and I'm keeping them in my diet daily, I wouldn't think twice about doing this again.
I tried mackerel last year. It's not bad. It has a mild flavor you can pair with any sauce or seasoning.
Make it like tuna fish salad. More mustard.
Best doctor online, the message is clear, simple and it works. thank you.
Thank you, Dr. Ken berry you are my go too you tube Doctor from now on. I trust everything your saying feels 100% right I will watch every single video you've made and will follow your advice buy any probably all your products and books if you have them. Very good vibes from this man. Very excited this a very good day watching from Michigan .
Usually sardinies and anchovies in can are with olive oil, not the best olive oil, but I put in my extra bio olive oil. As regards caviar in Italy are not really caviar but lumpfish eggs, coloured red or black, that's why I never buy it.
As regard oyster it is sold single not by kg, so it cost too much and it is difficult to find it.
I eat smoked wild salmon, 4 eggs a day, beef, pork and chicken meat and vegetables you indicated.
Thanks a lot, I hope my healthy will improve.
I just can't do the skin and bones with fish so today I was happy to find sardines in olive oil that don't have skin and bones so first time I had sardines today when I got home. I also do the cod livers since no skin and bones to deal with.
Try mixing with ground beef ✌
He said they need to be in water and not to do them in oil.
May God bless you brother you’re my lifesaver too I will adopt you as my doctor too so happy that you told me there cause I had a stroke recently and I absolutely love fish love sardines love Smoked sardines love salmon any kind of fish just about thank you so much for sharing now I’m eating more of it🥰🙏💕🦋
Sardines are available in olive oil.
I always make Ceasar salad dressing from scratch with anchovies. SO yummy!
Love this guy! Every time I listen, I learn something new or- even better- something I "knew: that is wrong.
The Season brand sardines sold at Costco are pretty good too although they have the head and a lot of bones removed. Really good on avocado toast using coconut or almond mug bread toast.
Thanks for the reminder. Battling PsA here and I NEED to eat more fish!!!!
I don't like anchovies at all and I thought that I want to like sardines. Well, I tried sardines for the first time last week and if I had a can every day since. stuff is amazing!
Canned sardines or mackerel (in olive oil), mixed with a spoon of Muffaletta olive salad. Sooo tasty
I love your story and your open-mindedness, my experience is somewhat close to yours, thanks for sharing
Gives new meaning to the phrase “Holy Mackerel “ 😅😘
Great video! Side note... make sure to choose Atlantic or Atka Mackerel VS king or spanish as they tend to be high in heavy metals.
Thank you!
Is the gel capsules not worth it? Surely they won’t do any harm taking them as well as eating fish?
Can you give alternatives for ocean animals ? kinda allergic to everything that comes out of the ocean.
Id amp up my Organic Olive Oil
Algae oil
Great video...badly needed since most people don't eat nearly enough EPA or DHA. I wish you had given a chart of EPA/DHA per serving for each of the 8 suggestions.
I the King Oscar sardines in extra virgin olive oil. Good video. Question - you recommend 2000 mg per day - hard to do when fasting.
Thank you for this video! I am just starting to figure out how to get enough omegas in my diet everyday and this video gave me so many ideas. Very helpful.
Yay , a new video ! I was starting to feel deprived ! Love you , Doc !
Ursula Eissner me too and I just found him a few days ago. I’ve listened to almost all of his videos. God bless you Dr Ken Berry !
This is such a great video.Thank you. A question: you mentioned too much vitamin A is not harmful in fish. What about the huge Vitamin A units in organ meats? Lamb liver, for example? Off the charts...
Thank you Dr. Berry, you really care about humans and your book is great!!!!!!
Thank you for this post. I will say though I am concerned about the salt content with some of the fish. Can you get sardines in no salt or low salt? I love sardines but I quite eating them cause of the high salt. I am very sensitive to salt. 🙏
ONE MILLION !!!!!
GO DOCTOR !!!!!
Keep up the good work.
Thank you Dr Berry so is canned sardines, Mackerel as good as fresh? Please clarify
Love fish, no problem. Thank you muchly for sharing this very important information with us all, & take care of yourself too. ❤🙂🐶
Dr Berry, what are your thoughts on Krill Oil supplements?
I get scolded at work for stinking up the break room with my can of smoked herring 🤣
Would like to get your opinion of
Lambs brains as a source of DHA &
EPA .
Thanks for sharing. Can you tell what kind of omega3 and dose per body mass unit? So mct works too. Wow I love dairy I read "keeping dairy" funny
@@szymonbaranowski8184 At that time I was using BIOTech USA for year or two, later have been trying various others. I have also found that I actually do not need (a lot of) them when eating a lot of fish, especially wild salmon. On carnivore eating for last few years I try to buy mostly grass fed beef that has also naturally omega 3.
Do tinned oysters count? I live in the only land locked New England state, fresh is hard to come by. What about the other fish mentioned in the video, are tinned okay?
Dr. Berry what are your thoughts on sardines when their packed with extra-virgin olive oil?
@KenDBerryMD , Is the omega 3 in canned fish not rancid yet because they were pre-heated shortly?
You said sardines packed in water. How about packed in Olive oil or adding Olive oil to sardines in water? Thanks for all you share! I lost 23lb since November 1, no joint pain and had major knee rebuild 27th last month, blood was minimally affected. Thanks for adding to my life! I'm 64.
Olive oil is fine! Just avoid canola, soybean & sunflower type oils.
Look for the Wild Planet brand sardines and mackerel in olive oil excellent quality
What about cold-treated, natural cod liver oil supplement? I suppose that might be better than fish oil capsules?
Dr. Berry looking swoll 💪🏋️
Is the pharmaceutical grade EPA named Vascepa a clean preparation? I know that fish oil is often not very clean and may contain some very harmful organic chemicals.
What would you suggest if you are allergic to fish?
Great video brotha, what's your thoughts on pure omega 3 fish oil refrigerated for health benefits
I've been eating sardines for many years and recently have added Mackerel. I read that Atlantic mackerel is best. Other types of mackerel are larger fish which have more mercury.
Do you just eat them from can or have other ideas for the willing to try? Thanks in advance.
@@VeldaE12 - If eating straight from the tin can is too much of your liking, you can cook it if you like. I sautee my onions and garlic, add a few cut-up tomatoes. Once all sauteed, add 1/4 cup of water, when the water starts boiling, add the sardines. Once the sardines got warm, optionally you can add veggies like spinach. After the veggies cooked, turn off the heat and enjoy your sardines.
VeldaE12 Try in a salad with keto bbq dressing or keto Caesar dressing. Even a Cobb salad without bacon or chicken sub mackerel.
Thank you Sunflower, but I’m carnivore and I don’t do greens. They really tear me up these days.
I have fibromyalgia, torn rotator cuff, and osteoarthritis.... next shopping trip my list will be allot different.
Please list out EPA and DHA from land animals only. Some ppl love land animals a lot compared to uncommon faraway and out of sight only in the sea coasts fish!!
Thank you again for another informative video. I am a heart survivor (2019), with two required stents. I just stopped taking Statin (was prescribed 80 mg then only reduced to 40 this year) based on the 2022 JAMA Report you and others have communicated ❤Thanks for that important info. My question is I like and take COD Liver in capsules (1000 mg) up to twice per day but considering once and then replacing the second dosage with Krill on days I don’t eat sardines or salmon or similar. However, what about Wild Salmon Oil supplement with MCT? If you could also answer me this: what about Palm Oil such that is in with my popcorn I eat in my home office every once in a while? God bless.
Dr. Berry, I’m allergic to seafood. Any other foods I can eat to raise EPA/DHA if supplements aren’t recommended?
All seafood or shellfish?
Carlson’ s lemon Cod Liver oil tastes great! I take it daily.
@Warrior Lol! Me, too! Just ordered more😁
I've shared information about healthy omega-3's with a family member with T2 diabetes and fibromyalgia but she says her GP advised against it because of hemorrhaging risk? I have never heard of that in conjunction with fish oils and omega 3 before. Is it a real thing? She has sky-high triglycerides and blood sugar from the ADA diet.
Does anyone know if the pickling process for pickled herring denatures the herring's natural oils? And what about kippered herrings? Does the smoking/curing process denature the oils?
Don’t forget snails, I know either love them or hate them. They are high in Omega 3$ and so much can be done with them. I prefer the French/Spanish or Greek snails rather than Thailand etc. Great for keto.
Hello Br. Berry, I love sardines, King Oscar wild caught in olive oil, and Jalapenos, Paprika. There are no other ingredients listed Can I assume it's clean? I would think so
I'm so sick of worrying about it, I just ordered a 16oz. bottle of cod liver oil🐟 (unflavored!)Thanks Doc. !
Cod liver is delicious. I eat 1 ounce per day.
Is that enough? Should I eat more?
How many anchovies would a person need to eat a day to get the benefits?
I just researched it. He said we need 500-3000mg/day.
I found that 1, 2oz can has 951 mg per serving for anchovies. So according to Doc....one can a day or so roughly...I am not a doc.
hey been watching your channel and Neisha's too. The info you have is so critical to MY health. wish I wish close enough to make a doctor appointment with you but I am grateful for this channel .....as a disabled vet semper fi sir....
WHEAT thank you for serving our country
How do you make the pate?
Can we get enough omega 3 eating without eating fish? The RDI for omega 3 is high, but maybe it was set for people who have a lot of omega 6 in their diet.
Please include recommended dosages (2 g to 3 g) in the notes, or at least give a time index to that info in the video. Thanks.
// Busy readers/listeners may not want the info that you need, but the info they need. :-) Cordially
Great video! What about a high end Fish oil supplement? KRILL FISH OIL GEL CAPS ? thank you for your awesome videos.
Hi, I believe krill oil is amazing, it's really high in antioxidants compared to cod liver oil and fish oil.
Trader Joe's have the best sardines in olive oil . I grew up in Ireland eating all this stuff .
Thanks Dr Berry
Read the label carefully they use olive pip oil.
Best value for the money I think is Season sardines in bulk at Costco. Pure olive oil and they are delicious.
In his video - it is said not to buy sardines in oil.............you should buy them in water
@@denfos He simplifies things. You shouldn't buy sardines in vegetable oils, olive oil is completely fine. If you don't know anything about oils just buy them in water
@@rherteux Yes Rene I buy those too but the Trader Joe's are my favorite taste .
How concerned should I be with microplastics/pfas while eating sardines from a tin can?
I tried cod liver today for the first time. It was good. I’ve had them for at least 6 months and was scared to try.
Thank heavens I absolutely love fish equally as much as chocolate, although eat chocolate very little unless dark. I’m going to up my fish eating to more than the recommended 3 times a week. So much info that is kept from us or keep us ticking over on meds and for those that fall short of benefitting fall down. Thank heavens for these angel doctors that inform us we need much much more in order to do better than just ticking over in life on meds. Thank you. I love my mackerel although I do wonder about the toxicity from the tins!
Just noticed our local "Aldi" tonight has tinned anchovies in extra virgin olive oil so bought 2 tins to test out.... Live in the Highlands of Scotland and very limited shops locally- very little chance of finding anything that fits the pasture raised/grass fed/wild caught labels and just have to buy the best I can.... I have a half acre garden I think it's time to get some ducks and chickens!!
Type in grass fed and/or pasture raised meat in the search bar of your computer. You can order it online.
@@byteangelxi9178 Thanks for that- one avenue I'd not considered was online as I generally like to see what I buy food-wise, there's a supplier over in Aberdeenshire (Donald Russell)- will have a good look at the website this weekend, brief glance before work and they do cuts for slow cooking which could be an option to keep costs down (organ meats? ? ). Got a couple of local places which may fit the bill- one a fishmonger, one a "farm/estate shop".... going to have a look at both tomorrow!
You don't want to over cook organ meat. Well liver at least. I've never had anything in the organ meats except that and I can tell you from experience it's horrible if over cooked.
What’s your thought on marine phytoplankton?
Cod liver from a can is amazing! New favourite food.
I tried it a few months ago? It’s sooo good. Ordered more to keep on hand.. ☀️
Your voice and the way you explain is the reason I subbed.
Will you also address the latest research that warns of heart fibrillations from fish oil supplements and the fact that DHA may actually negate the effects of EPA? Thanks. Can't find much about this at the moment.
Please do a video on cartilage repair I have chrondomalacia grade 3
My favorite DHA Masterpiece is pork brains with duck eggs.
I see why maybe you don't mention brains but it's my understanding they have a lot of DHA more so than a lot of these other sources you listed
Thank you for all you do to promote good health!
I've been having buttery eggs for brunch and this week I'd been really flat mentally and physically but the days I then had sardines, I picked right up. Watching this, I see that my brain needs it but I wonder if it really picked me up that fast or whether it was the fat?
Butter bloats me and makes me tired. Eggs on their own would probably not cause any dips in energy.
The fish roe has sodium benzoate and dyes like yellow #5. Are these ok to eat?
Dr. Berry, are there any Keto friendly bars that you would recommend? All of them seem to have something that’s not good- whey protein, tapioca starch, dextrose...
Thanks 4 all you do 🙂
Get out of the habit of snacking on things like bars etc.... Or make your own :)
Check out juliansbakery
Jewels M. Who said whey protein was bad?
No, I recommend real, whole keto-foods.
WaxingRadiance I’m not snacking on bars- looking for a meal replacement when on the run/away from home.
Pork has a high ratio of Omega-6. Should we discontinue eating it, even if pasture raised?
I take 2 tsp of Norwegian cod liver oil a day....I finally tried sardines lol, they're not bad!! Also ordered some real cod liver from Iceland, sustainably fished....I will eventually try 😊
Seasons sardines are very good.
