      It sounds like you might not be in a deficit or your calories are too low. My metabolism slowed down a lot after dieting. what works is to eat around 1100 to 1300 ( depending on BMI) yours might be different. do not go over even if you workout. Sometimes we eat way more than we think. and sometimes we don't burn as many calories in a day as we think adding a 30 min workout is great. I jumprope and do growithjo. Walking is good, cleaning for 30 min around the house and not sitting down during that time is good. use my fitness pal and track what you eat to see if you're overeating or not. ( didn't see changes for 2 weeks then I noticed I was eating 300 calories too much and it made me maintain weight :P) Also, drink lots of water, avoid diet sodas. choose tea, and coffee in the morning can boost metabolism. never drink your calories unless it's like a protein shake. You can eat basically anything as long as you are in a deficit. working out can help you stay in a deficit just don't eat your calories back and keep it light. it's ok to have carbs but make sure it's not from bread or white rice. lentils, seeds, dark grain rice, beans, sweet potatoes, low-carb tortillas, etc. can help keep you full. you can eat them a couple times out of the week. This is what helped me lose weight I hope this helps.

Diet is very important when it comes to working out. a balanced diet will give you peak results. your body needs all sorts of vitamins and minerals to produce energy, and muscle as well as repairing itself after each workout. diet is 70 percent !! don't workout and then eat junk. it depletes your body of nutrients which can lead to health issues and even injury.

    What I've been doing over the last few weeks is semi-controlled meals and then not eating at work. Not sure if it counts as fasting. I work nights. So I'm eating at about 6pm and not eating again till 8am the next morning when I get home from work. I do still have small portions of rice in my diet, but it's mainly a small potion of meat protein and salad with a cottage cheese dressing. it's surprisingly nice. I did lose about 8lbs over the first two weeks and it's slowed a little, but still going in the right direction. I have also cut out alcohol during my diet. I do like beer, but have been surprised at how much I don't miss it.
    FYI the work vending machines is where I make most if not all my bad eating choices. So trying to avoid it. Doing ok so far ☺️

      I know any combination of things could answer this question, but since I started my common sense diet. I've felt great. I call it a common sense diet as it's a combination of every diet I've ever heard of plus fasting 😉 Before I started this diet I was always tired and needed coffee and energy drinks to function. I now only have one coffee when I wake up and only consume water at work and most mornings near the end of my shift I still feel great. I may have to call this diet what it really is. A lifestyle change.

    52 yo female. Unfortunately fasting isn’t working for me. In May of 2022 I started walking a mile twice a day… everyday for 7 months. Bought a treadmill and walked inside during the winter months. I drank coffee in the am with zero sugar creamer or heavy cream only. I ate a regular low carb small lunch and normal clean dinner. No snacks or processed foods. No change in weight. Only gained. Dr said I was prediabetic. Stopped the walking. Pointless anyway. Then at the beginning of this year I started 16:8 fasting then recently started 17:7… with only coffee at the 17th hour and a normal dinner. But nothing has worked for me. I think my body is thinking it’s in starvation mode and is storing everything I eat into fat cells. I’m going to try the OMAD next. Do I think it will work? Sadly no… but at least I’ll know

      Wow this is so similar to my story! Very discouraging. Fasting for 16-18 hrs a day, doing 3x/week HIIT training, reduced my sugar/carb intake and NOT ONE POUND LOST. I’m convinced my body is just broken and nothing short of literally starving is going to make the scale move. 😔

    I’ve recently come across some info from various sources about not combining protein with carbohydrates. I’ve jumped on the whole food plant based diet train and even though I’ve did lose 17lbs in a month, I haven’t noticed a difference in my energy levels. I had salmon last night with a TON of veggies and felt my energy level go up significantly. It might’ve been placebo, 🤷‍♂️ However, I will try this new way of eating for a month and see how it goes. I think the key in having a ton of energy and just feeling “right” is eating a LOT of veggies. I had a two egg omelette this morning with some veggies and felt great, until I drank a berry smoothie. After consuming smoothie, I crashed 15mins later and it tasted super sweet too. I’ll avoid smoothies this whole month and will see if I actually get the result I desire from my diet!

    Went from 305lbs to 130lbs in 11-12 months. I tried everything, but from experience I can say that the more simple u make it, the better. I would eat raw green vegetables, and plain baked lean protein. Nuts, healthy yogurt. And THAT IS ALL! Drink nothing but water and coffee. THAT IS ALL. It's more about Discipline than anything. Forget about food. Never sit down and eat a meal again in your life. Eat a couple servings of raw vegetables and shut the fuck up for 12 hours. NO CHEAT DAYS! EVER! NO CHEAT SWEETS OR MEALS, EVER! I had a very rough time losing weight even on this starving diet. I also had to run 5 miles in the morning. Play 4-6 hours of basketball. Then another 5 mile run at night. EVERYDAY! 7 DAYS A WEEK, EVERY WEEK! Become militant and embrace the suck with a smile!

    I'm on my 4th year of intermittent fasting 16/8 and 14/10 for 6 days a week. I have gained 23 lbs in that time. I think for me the combination of having Hashimoto's disease, myriad food sensitivities, poor digestion, low stomach acid, pre-diabetic, extremely high cortisol, decreased activity due to a car accident (I was previously and elite athlete), being biologically stuck in Freeze state and eating too few calories during my eating window are the problem. I tend to only manage 886-1125 calories a day. Prior to suddenly gaining 10-25 lbs in certain 14-21 day periods I was only eating 400-500 calories a day for a few years doing HCG. That probably didn't help my metabolism.

    • @MajdMD
      @MajdMD  3 роки тому +2

      It’s not sustainable to do daily for most people, but with that said i think it’s okay to do more frequently for most people as long as they are careful to consume the necessary nutrients through that one meal a day and not at risk for any deficiencies. It may take some planning/effort but may be do-able for some. Great Q!

    • @blueviserion
      @blueviserion 3 роки тому

      @@MajdMD thanks, doctor. I was concerned that it might be bad for the body (e.g., slow down metabolism) if you do 24hr everyday, but you were just saying that it might be challenging for some people. I've been doing 24 hour intermittent fasting with some cheat days here and there for two years. My blood panel shows good nutrient levels, except my iron was just a bit low on my last test. My weight loss has not been to my expectations though, but I believe I've been falling into some of the mistakes in your video. Namely overeating when I do eat, and maybe too many carbs. I've also been overweight to some degree my whole life so it may be to your point about the longer you've been overweight, the longer it'll take. Blood panel shows no indication of prediabetes or insulin resistance though. Fun fact: my LDL cholesterol came in at 47! I'm not sure how much of this is due to vegetarianism and how much of that is the fasting.

      * only * a few days a week? "Not sustainable"?? It's not sustainable because doing it every day is the definition of an eating disorder. You could ruin your health permanently by doing that.

    • @MajdMD
      @MajdMD  3 роки тому +2

      @@blueviserion congrats on your weight loss efforts! Not only is it a challenge, but like i mentioned more risky to do a 24 hour (one meal a day) IF schedule long term -- i'd worry it would place people at risk for nutritional deficiencies, like anemia as you mentioned. Short-term may be feasible, but it would be difficult as a doctor to recommend it long term until perhaps we have more data/research to back up its safety.

    • @MajdMD
      @MajdMD  3 роки тому +3

      @@lindenpeters2601 I understand your point. However, intermittent fasting is very different from an eating disorder. An eating disorder is a form of mental illness -- they are disturbances in behavior and thoughts. Now, with that being said, one of the groups of people i never recommend IF for are those who have eating disorder histories, as it can trigger those same behaviors/thoughts. But for others, it can be a lifestyle choice and if done right can be healthy. But overall, like i said in the video, i do not recommend 24 hour or 36 hour fasting daily, but 2-3 times a week is unlikely to produce any harm for those without an eating disorder history.
