Baby Dragon Intarsia

- I’ve been itching to do an intarsia so I purchased a stained glass pattern of a baby dragon and used the pattern to make one! I used poplar, yellow heart, and myrtlewood. I also used ebony for the pupil and Oregon lilac for the reflection in the pupil. I learned a new way to do the light reflection in the eye by drilling a hole and sharpening a piece of wood into a point, like a pencil, and placing it into the little hole. So I tried it for the first time on this dragon! It worked out really well!!! I also tried using colored toner to transfer my logo and it worked out well too!!! This little project satisfied my intarsia itch by only making it itchier! Onto more intarsia!!!

All of Job 41 is about the Leviathan, which sounds like a Dragon to me!!!
Job 41:19-20 (NCV) Flames blaze from its mouth; sparks of fire shoot out. 20 Smoke pours out of its nose, as if coming from a large pot over a hot fire.

@@rickydavis7581 Thank you :) I learned everything from Judy Gale Roberts' intarsia books, she is amazing and has a lot of good information on her website intarsia.com. I'm still learning and love to share as I learn! May God bless you too and your intarsia adventures!
Amazing work⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👌👍

Looking forward to using that technic. THANK YOU for sharing your videos !!
You will love it!!!
I love it!!!! I have a story about Intarsia, which I didn't know at the moment what it was until now thanks to you!!! I absolutely love it, but I don't have scroll saw like yours mine is like from 1970's that someone gave it to me and I don't know if I'll be able to make cuts like that...but I will love to try. Thanks for all the fun!!! :)
Once I found out about it I was hooked! It's great fun!!!
That's awesome!!! You and Dave/Eric have me trying to do signs and intarsia ☺️
Thank you and that is soooo awesome!!! Glad you are getting into doing them!!!! I would love to see what you make, and I am sure Dave and Eric would love to see a sign from you!!!
Thanks for the eye tip! I am going to have to try that on some of my projects.
It is an awesome technique huh!!!!!
nice video to watch you make the dragon come together I normally use a dab of white paint for the eye piece but I learned a new technique with the white wood thanks for that.
A friend explained how to do it this awesome way, I had always used paint before too. This keeps it all wood and looks so nice!
Very nicely done! I use painters tape then spray my template using a spray adhesive. It makes it a lot easier to clean up after cutting it out. Love this dragon!!
Painters tape is good stuff!
I've always had problems with that little eye spot. Thanks for the tip. I will try it on my next project. I'm always loosing those tiny little pieces. Great work Cy.
I hope the eye spot technique works for you!!! It is always a bummer when a piece falls and you can't find it!!!!! I feel your pain!!!
Very impressive, great techniques!
Thanks Janice :)
beautiful Cy. That's my kind of dragon.
Thank you :)
Beautiful work Cy.
Thanks Marie :)
Great looking Dragon, Thumbs up Cy.

Cool Dragon!!
Thanks John!
I wish I had seen this a day sooner because I needed to make a cute polymer clay dragon today. Yours is so nice and your little sweetie is adorable!
A polymer clay dragon? Ooooh, that sounds really interesting Andi, I would love to see what you came up with!!!!
Cy's Corner Okay, I’ll email you photos!
Looks great.
Thank you!!!
Seriously cool dragon! Nice job. Gotta love the colour variations in poplar - wish it was a bit easier to buy in Australia.
Thank you! Aw man, you can't get poplar easily??? It is in abundance here, I imagine there may be some other type of abundant wood in Australia????
It looks so good! I just love your stuff!
Thanks Andrew! Remember the room where Gibbs was sleeping? :D
Cy's Corner ... I know! I saw that and I was like, hey! That's my bed! Haha. It brought back very good memories.
Heeee heeee!!!!! That's cool Andrew!!!!

That's cool looking Cy---
Thank you!!!
Such a cute 'lil dragon, Cy! In photography the light in the eye is called a catchlight, it really gives life to an image. I am working on my first intarsia project, I hope it turns out half as well as yours!
Oooh, I would love to see your intarsia! Catchlight in photography, someone said it is called something else when not in photography. I never imagined it would have a name, let alone 2 names!!!
Yes, i like it ... this is great ...
Thank you!!!
another nice project, cooolll
Thanks June :)

Fantastic looking piece, Cy.
Thanks for that info!!!
Cy's Corner You're very welcome :)
Or as us, humans call them, catchlights
Very nice Cy,
Thank you!!!
Not to be a nay Sayer but l have used green poplar on a few projects only to have it change to a deep chocolate brown over time. I hope that is not the case with your dragon.
It may be!
magnifique
Thanks :)
Boy! I wish I had your enthusiasm. You always have great tutorials and projects. I have a question for you and I don't mind if you don't reply because I know that you are one very busy lady. But when I do some intricate intarsia projects they end up not quite fitting together right. For instance my Bald Eagle with all the feathers. When put the project together it is slightly smaller than the pattern and the internal sections of the body don't fit properly. I end up having to sand and reshape the pieces to get it looking correct. Any hints? Maybe you have already done a video about this problem? PS: Love your dog!
Hello, I don't have a straight out good answer for you. I totally know what you mean though. Some hard core intarsia artist have perfectly fitting pieces, and I know that is the goal. I have found that my pieces, when they don't fit together perfectly, look pretty okay with a small gap, as long as the gap is consistent then the eye doesn't really get bothered by it, (although our eye always will). Please send me an email and we can chat about this more if you'd like. undeniablycy@gmail.com
I am always striving to have a gapless intarsia, I am still working on it!!!
So far Cy I've found that stack cutting various pieces together changing grain directions and wood types necessary for the pattern I want works pretty good. Not perfect but ok. Doing it that way if I wiggle away from the line a little bit it will still come together. Nobody but me (I hope) notices the goof. I have used wood filler and a tooth pick to insert it into any noticeable gaps. Generally from the back of the project. Also using a finer blade seems to help. I look forward to your projects.
Hi Cy,
How do you do your verse transfers? Love your stuff
Hello, I have a few videos showing this and some other transfer ways. Here are the links: Transferring letters to wood: ua-cam.com/video/wvaC49pjzmk/v-deo.html
How did you put that on there? The transfer techniques I use.

Looking good! I have intarsia on my to-do list. Just, way down it.
It is really fun to do!!!
Cute! Where do you get your exotic woods?
Thanks! I get them from local lumber places. I live in Oregon and there are a handful of places that carry exotics!
Love the dragon! Just curious, how do you pick your verses? Google?
Thank you!!! I am a bible reader and certain things pop into my mind with the projects, I just need google to help me find it! I google a few words of it and google usually comes up with the reference.
Cy's Corner cool! I figured you must read fairly regularly, but it's interesting that you come up with a verse for every project that relates. ☆☆☆☆☆
:) It is so awesome how sooo much stuff is talked about in the bible!!!
Ellerinize sağlık.
Teşekkürler!
