Barn Intarsia

In this video I make a barn intarsia from a pattern by Judy Gale Roberts. I used purple heart, walnut, spalted maple, camphor burl, fir, banksia pod, oak, and blue pine.

Another great project. So glad you are back to doing Intarsia - it is so inspiring to watch you. Picking wood for projects is one of my challenges also but you made some good choices. Purple for sky was a great idea. Really liked the pods - where did you get them? Loved the tip on scoring the wood before using the wood burner on it - great tip! Haven’t been able to find blue pine around these parts but have a few projects that it would probably be just the right wood to use - sky and water - I keep looking. Love your videos and projects - keep ‘em coming!

Do you have a video where you focus on fitting smaller pieces and how you deal with gaps?

I have a video on how I fix gaps, I'll attach the link here. As for fitting smaller pieces, they are alway tough, just try to leave half of the line you are sawing, small pieces are always challenge.....well, big pieces are always a challenge too! I have recut pieces many times. Here is a tip on how to fix gaps if the pieces allow you to do this. Sometimes you fix a gap this way and then mess up how the rest of the pieces fit so it really depends on the piece. Good luck to you!

I honestly, absolutely LOVE this intarsia Cy. Have the perfect place to hang it too, lol. Did you cut all your beautiful locks off? @Linda Wallace The blue pine was 3/4 inch, the purple heart was 1/4. Everything else was in between those, I did use risers on some that weren't thick enough.
