The BEST DIY sliding truck bed on UA-cam hands down. I've been looking for a commercial product that integrates modular tool boxes with a sliding bed and they don't exist. As far as I know, you are the only person to have successfully produced one. Also many of the commercial bed slides are about 4" tall thereby wasting a lot of space. That is their biggest drawback aside from price with many products > $1000 usd. Your 'split bed' idea is also unique, though having a larger slide out floor would allow me to store my collapsable table saw and mitre box. Adding a handle that allows the unit to lock in position might be cool. Overall, very well done indeed.
For more context, Dewalt (and others) make a stackable tool box/organizer whereby all the boxes can 'click' together on a standup, roll-away unit with large wheels and a handle. It would be great, for instance, if there were such a device that allowed you to, say, remove the tool boxes from the sliding bed and stack them together on a roller. Sooooo truck bed to roll-away kinda thingie. LOL.
Hi Daryl. Thanks for the sub! Welding is definitely a form of art and have great respect for people that have put in all those hours to attain such skills. Now I am by NO means a welder, this was actually my first time welding, but hey need to start somewhere right?!
Goeie werk! I've searched long and hard for practical and simple ideas to make a slide for my bakkie and this is definitely the way to go! Thank you for sharing. Neat idea for fastening the ladder to the roofracks, easy to build and use and very sturdy.
Hi JP. Dankie man. That was always the plan yes, maybe one solid big drawer on top or another set of boxes doubling up the capacity. Hopefully sometime soon.
I used skateboard bearing like that before on wooden drawer slides bit didn't last too long. Now that I got a welder I would love to make a slide for back of cab that slides out.
This is a clever idea nice Ford bantam wanting to getting my self one as well and I am definatly going to build this storage idea it would also be a good idea to build like the exsact same thing base wise but instead of your black boxes have like a big storage cupboard so you slide it out and on either side you open up the door to a hole bunch of shelves thank you so much for the idea
This is crazy man!!! I bought my truck last spring and went on the hunt to find a decent way to build a slide but only found ones that would fall apart in short order the way I use my truck so for the past 6 months I’ve been planning and gathering materials because I’m doing it on a limited budget but I started building it a month ago and worked on it again yesterday trying to finish cutting the last couple pieces and welding them up today. Our designs are very, very similar buddy. I’ve been worried about how it was gonna work cause a couple guys said it won’t work like that but I knew better. Yours looks like it’s working well so mine should also. I did see the other comment bout adding a few more bearings so I may try that and will let you know if it works. I appreciate your videos and hope you put more out, take care!!
Hi Don. Thanks for the awesome comment. Nice to hear from someone else also building the same thing. Would love to see how yours turns out! Mine is still working perfectly. Haven’t gotten to adding a few extra bearings yet, but my load doesn’t change much so it hasn’t really been an issue yet. Maybe just consider the amount of weight you’ll have on the front of the drawer when fully pulled out. You might start feeling a bit of flex in the frame, this will mainly depend on the stock you’re using for the drawer runner. Mine was fairly thin to try and save on weight. This doesn’t affect me at all though because in my specific setup it rests on the tailgate if I ever need to bring it out that far. I realized the best part this past weekend when I needed to take it out and it was only 2 screws, that’s it. Hope you have an awesome time building yours! Cheers
Maybe use cam followers. Top eccentric and bottom fixed. That way you can adjust eccentric followers down on sliding frame. Tack nut on back side of plate for threaded potion of followers and drill large enough hole for nut to go through. Then weld plate on on frame.
A video specifically about truck bed pull-outs, (which were well done, for sure), and my favorite part was the ladder bracket... BTW: I don't know if it's a generic name or the name of a specific brand, but I've always known those threaded inserts as a "nut-sert". (Not sure how that would actually be spelled, but ya, a nutsert. (Because you're basically inserting a nut into the metal panel.)
Thanks Jeremy. Yes, I built it in a way that I can do exactly that for a future build. I thought of almost doing the same thing but just two big flat platforms pulling out so anything additional like power tools and so can also be loaded on top and also be pulled out with ease.
Uiteindlelik ‘n voorbeeld van een wat maklik is om te maak. So bly ek het dit gesien. Waste mm square tubing and angle iron het jy gebruik? Het jy die bearings by Midas gekry?
Well done. I wouldn't use rivet nuts for something designed to carry that much weight. I think it would have taken less time to just weld. Still, nice tutorial.
Hi Jay. Thanks very for the feedback. I found that there is now force on the rivnuts where the are inserted as the really just keep it from sliding forwards and backwards. No force pulling up on them. The reason for them was purely for me to be able to remove the whole frame easily when I need the space.
Hey guy.First thing, great job u did. I really like the simplicity and tightness of the ladder rack as well. Questions - did i miss how you secured it so it doesnt pull all the way out? What about that flex factor when extending it past that certain point, where it looks like it might be dragging on the tailgate? How does that affect it? Enough that u did something about it? Did u make a platform on top of these? If so, did u post a video on it? As time went on, what have you found that worked out very well, and in opposition, what might u have done differently? Thanks for sharing. Aloha ;)
Wow....that looks awesome...=) I'm gonna do something similar to that on my Volvo V70... But in a smaller size.. thats the plan anyhow...=) thanks for sharing.!

One of the better home made drawer designs I have seen on you tube. Simple. Practical. Good job
Nice! I am glad I am not the only one who welds with shorts and tennis shoes on❤

What size tubing did you use, and what is the overall height? Very nice setup.
Fantastic! Tyvm 👍🏼
Was thinking of how. Well now I'm going to copy you. That's awsome
Oh nice video I think I'll use it in my new truck
Great job. Those threaded inserts look brilliant.
Nutserts we call them

Looks great, way better than the wooden ones, only problem is that I don’t have any of the tools to make it lol
Friends or neighbors usually a good option. You’ll be surprised at what people have lying around 😁
Thanx for the comment!
Well thought out and built! Thanks for posting!

Where did u buy the square tubing
Thanks for information I’ve learned so many you did great job 👏👍
Do you have a link to those storage boxes? Great design!
Hi Brendan,
What size bearings did you use?
Looking for similar system for my Ranger.
Pta.
What size bolts and nuts did you use?
M10?
Beautiful work! Do you happen to have a technical drawing of it?
Do you think Unistrut would have simplified the build?
nice work! Do you plan to build a platform above the storage drawers for additional storage of large items without interfering with the drawer system?
Thanks Jeremy. Yes, I built it in a way that I can do exactly that for a future build. I thought of almost doing the same thing but just two big flat platforms pulling out so anything additional like power tools and so can also be loaded on top and also be pulled out with ease.
Where did you get your storage boxes? I run a similar style but I like that the lid closures on yours are on the ends.
Did you find them? Let me know where
Nice!! good job!!
Is there anything to stop the slides from being pulled too far out?
Very useful.
well done
Excellent 👍🏼👍🏼
Good work !!
Thanks Tim!

Nice inspiration! I am trying to make an 800 pound generator slide like this. Did you use special industrial bearings or just skateboard type? Cheers
Great job man

Where did you get those boxes?!?!?! Awesome build!
Yes where did you get those boxes
@@repairman419 They look like Frontrunner WolfPAck boxes.

Definitely nice but your truck might need stronger springs.
How much does the frame weigh, looking for something like this but am getting limited by weight currently.
Wow....that looks awesome...=) I'm gonna do something similar to that on my Volvo V70... But in a smaller size.. thats the plan anyhow...=) thanks for sharing.!
