As a lucas player i thought i'd add a few things,
- you can also cancel magnet with jump as u heal.
- his down throw doesn't actually bury, you can set the opp to 999 and its still the same, and it isn't affected by mash either, its purely aesthetic.
- Calling his uthrow nothing special isn't true, it kills midweights around 140 ish, making it one of the strongest uthrows in the game.
- His fthrow is also a kill throw, although typically uthrow will kill a percents sooner, but will kill earlier on TnC.
- His usmash has head intangibility frames 15-29 and full body invincibility frame 1-7. Also coined the strongest usmash in the game.
Some more in-depth opinions on which is better
Magnet
- Magnet has much less combo untility compared to ness, only allowing really magnet to datk at 0.
- magnet is the safest non-projectile move in the game (more so than Mario's atks, Lucario aura nair, shotos nair etc.). allowing for plenty of shield pressure. it is 0 on shield, so you can magnet the top on their shield and if they dont have an option oos faster than frame 7, u can uair them (which is also safe).
- Magnet apparently can auto turnaround at times, I'm not too knowledgeable about how it works though.
- when the opponent is airborne, the pull increases dependent on the opponent's percentage. Good for anti-ledgetrapping, reverse edgeguarding ( pulling them into a bair).
Thunder
- the term you didn't use was that it's transcendent. Its a much better edgeguarding tool but a much worse juggling tool. also when recovering it won't hit opponents and make you fall to your death. Pk thunder 2 also has trouble with all hits connecting too.
Pk fire
- when pk fire cranks with another projectile it actually explodes and makes a burst towards the enemy actually hitting them. Not sure if ness does that.
- It also pushes lucas a bit in the air (similar to gunner fair, corrin bair). (also not sure if ness does that)
- airial version has much more landing lag (as its meant to be used further away compared to ness's)
- outside of playing idiots, it's mainly used as an edgeguarding tool (also tech chasing and jump callouts), and can actually kill decently early.
Uair
- While both have amazing combos, his is a single hit making it so they won't fall out (#fixmultihits). It has a decent disjoint on the back of the head allowing for his uair to actually beat palu's nair.
- Although ness's uair kills a lot earlier than lucas's
utilt
- Lucas's is faster, acts similar to a zss utilt by being a quick get off me tool and putting the opponent into the air.
- Although has much less combo ability, with the only combos being frame perfect fh uairs at low-mid percentages.
- Ness's has a sour spot that may be hit against grounded opponents, while lucas's sourspot is the delay hit (meaning if you get hit by the horizontal hitbox while grounded, it will always pop the opponent into a sweetspot.)
Datk
- lucas's can hit under the ledge (but not all characters)
Ftilt
- Is pretty disjointed but isn't that long.
- Solid 2 -framing move/extended ledge hang.
- The sweet spot kills a bit earlier, but the sourspot doesnt really kill at all. (Although ness's ftilt is surprisingly strong).
- is -8 when spaced, making link's upb the only move in the game that can punish it on shield when spaced right. (Ness's is -17)
Neutral b
- Ness can actually combo from his bc of the high freeze frame (if he lands it close).
Fsmash
- lucas's also reflects projectiles slightly sooner, although for slightly less duration.
SH/FH time
- It takes ness a lot longer to do sh, fh, shff, fh ff. one of the reason's why he can spam so much
Other/Gameplay/Who should you chose
- Lucas has: Better edgeguarding with all aerials being amazing(dair you don't have to time, bair spikes and is disjointed and lasts relatively long(good at reverse edgeguarding, nair is really good at dragging opponents, fair is really strong), and all specials being useful. Better recovery with tether and long upb. He typically plays more defensively (although he can play both very well), but he can't "spam as much", many of his moves has tipper so u have to space and his burst options are kinda meh (pivot filt > datk all the time and dash grab is kinda bad). Although technically his moves are safer on shield, but ness can "spam more" making them harder to punish. He doesn't have as many true combos, mostly mixups are harder techs like dair loops, nair loops, djcz loops, dtilt loops. In general, it's harder to close stocks with Lucas. Lucas's oos isn't as good with frame 10 nair, frame 12 fair, frame 1-8 invincible usmash that comes out on frame 28 (tank through spammers), while ness's nair is frame 8 and has a better hitbox and sets up for tech chases.
While i don't think there is one that is exclusively better, as both has there strong points and it comes down to a matter of playstyle. (Although low-key, i think ness is better despite being a lucas player).
Omg, clearly underrated, almost nobody noticed you ! That's sad, I'll give you a thumb up if it can help. Writing so much for almost nothing.. damn, I feel you.
I'll definetly try all your tips and trying playing Lucas more.
Calm down brother you wrote a whole god damm essay
Ness is still better
ness pk fire does do some recoil on the ground and air but it isnt as apparent as lucas. for lucas up smash i think at least in terms of damage wise he falls a little short towards ganon's. i personally i like to play lucas cause he's just very fun to play as and has cool stuff with his tilts and zair tech but i'm much better with ness cuase of combos with magnet. i think the guy forgot to mention that ness has a sour spot on his up tilt and it usually happens with shorter characters.
Bless ya
Lucas's crouch Pose looks like he's about to dash. In Mother 3, when you press the Dash button, it looks like the crouch he does in smash bros ultimate

Lucas has 3 kill throws. THREE
His up throw kills before his forward throw with proper DI though so there’s nearly so situation where you’d want to use fthrow???
@@ktoolsssb7080 Actually, at the ledge, I'm pretty sure f throw kills slightly earlier than up throw at around 120 to 130 percent. But yes, you should almost always use up throw or back throw. Doesn't change the fact that his throws are great
I use them to DI trap... If i'm facing the ledge they have to guess if they want to do DI away Upthrow or DI in fthrow (if they mess up or you condition them you can Kill at 120% with fthrow)
Lol dthrow is the only useless one
The Pokemaster No. His fthrow kills 5% earlier at ledge on PS2, lylat and unova. It’s honestly not that useful
*Ness' Starstorm meteors are stronger and bigger than Lucas' but Lucas has faster and more numerous meteors aside from being easier to control. Also Ness' Starstorm always begins at the middle of the stage while Lucas' always starts above him. This creates an interesting effect when used at a high height...
*Lucas has the better recovery since his PK Thunder isn't as gimpable as Ness and PK Thunder 2 sends him nearly twice as much distance as Ness'.
*Lucas' PK fire has actual kill potential especially offstage while Ness' can't kill at all except in mid-air. (without followups)
*Lucas is not floatier than Ness
*Lucas has faster base speed than Ness but Ness has a tad bit better acceleration.
*Lucas' voice isn't as annoying as Ness' (imo).
Edit: some corrections due to mistakes on my part (anything beyond this point are additional ones that I forgot)
*Ness' PK Thunder moves faster than Lucas'

The most satisfying thing you can do online is using Ness and Lucas’ recoveries successfully.
Using them succesfully is easy, the hard thing is not getting edguarded
There are so many more satisfying things in this game. I also think hitting PK Thunder 2 as both is much more satisfying than simply grabbing ledge. And using PK Thunder 1 to hit opponents (again as both) is very satisfying. Lucas make people feel invalidated when they try to return to stage and Ness can hit people for a very long time and rack up tons of damage.
They're completely different characters, but in general, Ness has a lower skill cap but a lower barrier of entry. Lucas as some wacky frame-perfect tech that makes him dummy good in a variety of situations
Except when people put Lucas in a disadvantage.
I think Ness is more optimized competitively, BestNess plays like a TAS
oof, the djcz (double jump cancel zair)… i tried to learn it for hours and didn’t succeed.
@@mcskyer5039 me either it is so hard dude
8:17 those screams lmao
I think the fact that Ness becomes a human missle is more hilarious 😆
For up tilt, Ness does in fact have a sweet spot. The sour spot data is the old up tilt data from brawl. if you hit the sour spot you hear the generic punch sound but if you get the sweet spot a magic sound is played instead
Lucas's magnet activates sooner. Ness can also roll after using magnet. His magnet hit box is magic based while lucas's is electric. Ness's magnetic repulsion also does not scale while Lucas' magnetic attraction increases with percent while airborne
Ness has one very strong kill throw while Lucas has 3 weaker ones
What's between difference Ness and Lucas?
EVERY MOVE
Ness: hey Lucas, wanna hear a joke?
Lucas: ok, what is it?

Ness clearly destroyed Lucas in this comment .-.
Ness has a 2x power multiplier on his bat reflection while Lucas only has a 1.5x power multiplier.
My favorite series on your channel by far! There are more instances like this so keep it up until every clone is covered!
lucas can shift his momentum with zair using a tech called djcz (double jump cancel zair), and he can also use it to combo u across the stage. Ness's magnet hitbox has set knockback
Don't foget that Ness Magnet is a combo extender.
@@BlazenPowers ye
I love both of them, mainly because of recovering with the recover,it's just so satisfying
2:28 you forgot that both can reflect projectiles with F-Smash. When they reflect projectiles, the damage increases, although Ness makes the projectile stronger than Lucas does.
Also you are one of my favorite channels. You just so good at that
These two have little in common. They are completely different characters unlike Marth and Roy.
I think it's because visually they do look kinda the same although yeah Roy is too similar to Marth than Lucas is to Ness
Kiz Epic Journey Marth and Roy are very, very different characters Marth relies on controlling space and Roy is rushdown.
They have the same bodies essentially and both rely on PSI, which is why they're so comparable. They're pretty different but it's not that hard to compare them.
It is amazing though how they borrow almost no animations between each other now.
@@Trybel Not different enough.

simple, one has a nightmare life and one has a sad life
I’m not sure about Ness, but Lucas’ forward smash also reflects projectiles, but you gotta hit it at the right time. Really fun to use, and I love the little clubbing sound it makes when he hits someone with the stick lol

I like lucas personally. Also another difference is using Pk fire in the air. Ness' will go diagonally downward, while lucas' stays horizontal
6:38
I play Ness more, but I've always have. I still play Lucas a lot though. One thing is I believe they gutted Lucas' down throw in this game. It sucks that in a game where they buffed all of the other characters burrowing moves, Lucas was the only one who got his severely nerfed.
ScarfFox and Friends his F, B and Up throws are all kill throws. Down isn’t a big deal.
@@hecetewest5411 I rather have a single kill throw and another Throw that helps get you to kill percentage than 3 kill throws.
Ness’s PK fire slopes downward when fired from the ground, and I don’t know quite how to phrase it, but the trajectory of ness and lucas feels different depending on the angle you hit them with pk thunder. I haven’t played either of the mother series characters much, but it might just be the speed at which pk thunder flies which confuses me when i play ness or lucas.
I think PK Thunder by itself always hits the same way. Ness will hit you mostly upward, but also inward. Lucas will hit you away from stage, but it is also confusing with all of the tail hits.
PK Thunder (Lucas) has more angles when recovering and Lucas can recover from almost anywhere.
It’s crazy how keep I can go below stage and still make ledge.
Simple Ness has a coward dog
Lucas has a dog THAT TRAVELS TO SAVE THE WORLD.
There’s a lot of really cool movement tech you can do, I know specifically with Ness you can do some double jump cancels with magnet or PK Fire to change trajectory, and Magnet is also good to stall for a second to mess up someone’s timing. You can also bounce yourself off the side of the stage with a PK Thunder 2 to do another PK Thunder as a recovery mixup
“Lucas is just Ness without the drip” -my homie
I laugh at those who think Ness and Lucas are the exact same. (Mostly my friends though)
I've been playing Lucas more than Ness lately and I've discovered that sourspot combos are very useful
I think you understated just how much farther Lucas's recovery goes. Lucas's PK Thunder rocket goes almost twice as far, while he also has the option to recover using his tether (the rope snake), which has good range. Also this is a bit more advanced so I'm not surprised you have not talked about it, however Lucas has a character specific tech with his Zair called Double Jump Cancelled Zair (DJCZ). This can be used for combos and confirms and makes his combo game quite a bit better than Ness's. Overall good video which went over the basics.
