Because of its portrayal in the 2013 Smash Documentary, people have just written it off as some super slow, one-note experience where meta-knight is the only usable character. There is so much more to this game, and thank you for showing that off to the entire smash community!
eh....as someone who has never heard of the 2013 Smash Documentary --- as far as I know, the Brawl years were rough for smash bros as a whole (Nintendo didn't support, actively opposed the competitive scene) and Brawl had Meta Knight and random tripping. @@tomc.5704 the competitive scene in Smash 4 was far healthier than Brawl however. Not to mention, many of Smash 4's top players moved to Ultimate on release and basically completely replaced 4 with Ultimate, which killed it hard. People often forget that Smash 4 was quite literally a console seller for the Wii U of all things on its release. The only other game even close to that in terms of selling consoles was Mario Kart 8!
From a casual perspective, brawl is the best smash game and certainly was a fan favorite as a kid. No other smash game has the sheer aura of that game. Plus the wii was super popular and made it even more accessible
@@Genasidal Smash 4's main issue in the competitive scene was DLC. Cloud was super strong and dominant, but was tolerable (similar to current Ultimate DLC complaints). However, when Bayo was released, the scene kinda died. She basically killed the game on her own, and Ultimate was a welcome reset for both players and spectators. And Ultimate and Smash 4 are very similar overall (moreso than probably any other 2 smash games) so a quick transition was pretty natural, with no reason to really go back.

That Faux Super Armor, as you call it, also applies when you grab someone doing a ground attack directly. Try grabbing the Falcon Punch the first frame it comes out and you will find your knockback is void while you take full damage.
I think it's probably closer to 52/48 or 53/47. There are so many good defensive options Snake has that if you need to put yourself in that position, you've done something wrong.
Absolutely can see that. 60:40 is definitely a little more "clickable" than "55:45" for the video but part of me genuinely believes that it might be able to be exploited a little further than what we've seen in the past. @@Brawlternative Nahhh honestly I was flattered,it meant my comment left an impression! Keep it up,I gotta see more of old man Coney reminiscing about the past as he takes a gamble looking up Smashboards posts!
It’s caused by different issues, but the idea of a skewed matchup in a mirror is the case in a some traditional fighters too, especially older ones. Heck, Mortal Kombat 1 launched with a bug that made it so entire combos didn’t work when performed by P2 (not P2 side… just p2)
@@BrawlternativeI assume you’re talking about sidestepping out of full crouch, in which case, it is extremely minor. The only characters that are really affected by it are characters that rely on force crouch moves like Mishimas. And to prove how minor it is, most Mishima players pick the worse side. The main reason side selection is important enough in Tekken to get a coin flip or rps is because most people just don’t practice p2 side at all (sidestep directions are flipped on p2 side and KBD is much harder). A better example of port priority in a more traditional fighting game would be MK9 which made p1 automatically win all trades, or Third Strike where cross-ups sometimes just don’t work depending on what side you’re on (most famous example being the Ken mirror where P1 Ken gets an ambiguous cross-up after his super and P2 Ken just doesn’t).
In the melee sheik ditto people do RPS for port priority because of the chain grab (the port closer to 4 gets 1 bonus advantage frame after the grab) and I thought that was bad but this is on a whole different level
3:11 The way you integrated this call-to-action was awesome. I see how you perfectly timed it so it's far enough into the video to ensure your audience enjoys the content, but not far enough to dip in retention rate. It also being short and sweet is amazing, achieving its purpose without it being invasive. You are clearly very dedicated to making well-informed, interesting, and entertaining videos, this one included. You are truly a master of the craft from the editing, sound effects, visuals, music, all the way to the call-to-action. There's a distinct reason why your channel is blowing up so fast and it's because you deserve it. I am already subscribed but I wish I could do it again. Keep up the outstanding work!
Maaaaan thank you so much for the kind words!!! Feels great to get acknowledged for some of the smaller stuff, so I really appreciate it :) made my day! Thanks again!!
This type of stuff shows up in so many fighting games, it’s stupidly funny. In Tekken, if you are crouching, you are not able to side step into the background, so if a character has a move that forces crouch, their moves are better at tracking after hitting that move depending on which side of the screen they are on
Ya know, I did some content creation for the Brawl competitive community for a little while, and I wanted to make a UA-cam channel like this, if I had the time. So I'm really happy to see someone do it. I love how mechanically deep this game is, but everyone wrote it off too quickly to realize. I hope you keep at this, because it is fantastic.
I genuinely love your content so far. I’ve always been a fan of melee content (even though I’ve never played it) and since there is a severe lack of brawl content I feel like I’m finally being filled in on something I’ve been missing.
Parasite Eve OST is banging. But the music definitely doesn't fit this channel, so I wanted a way to sneak a song in. The big contrast to the super high-energy Part 4 song was the perfect opportunity
So it's basically like Cloud's mirror, where the side B is written the same way regardless of orientation due to being a Kanji, favoring the left Cloud slightly; good thing starting position are randomized and is a 51:49 in practice.
I'm not even sure it makes a percentage of difference. Players will likely swap sides many times thoughout the course of a game, so if you need the bigger hitbox you can just take the other side of the stage and there you go.
@webbowser8834 Or play more grounded if on the right. Is uneven but only by definition, and the difference rarely comes out, but it exists, favours left cloud and therefore is not a true 50:50.
Yep, this is good content. What quality editing! And what fascinating content. Plus the music choices are great. Keep it up, man!! This is excellent shit!

Dude, this is the highest quality smash content since asumsauce, and I’d never thought I’d see it come from brawl! Keep it up!
You got all the old man's dominant genes...
As a Melee player who never got into Brawl, I've LOVED these videos. Fantastic work!
In the melee sheik ditto people do RPS for port priority because of the chain grab (the port closer to 4 gets 1 bonus advantage frame after the grab) and I thought that was bad but this is on a whole different level
I think that this is the only mu that I can think of in any game whatsoever, good video!
Thanks again!!
was never around in the community for brawls hype and fall off, this channel is amazing love the love for underrated games
I told this title to my friend and he asked "yo when did leffen start playing brawl?"
I Love the fact that you’re talking primarily about brawl because it was my first and favorite smash game off all time!
My brawl disc just stopped reading, but that won’t stop me from watching
try emulator / netplay :) Brawl has a tendency to ruin the Wii's disc reading laser - I've gone through a handful, lol.
The dual layer disc that Brawl uses tends to stop reading faster than other discs, either through the disc's damage or through the laser wearing out
This type of stuff shows up in so many fighting games, it’s stupidly funny. In Tekken, if you are crouching, you are not able to side step into the background, so if a character has a move that forces crouch, their moves are better at tracking after hitting that move depending on which side of the screen they are on
NO THAT IS NOT SOLID SNAKE!
Grats on the quick success but dont let yourself burnout, keep it steady
Ya know, I did some content creation for the Brawl competitive community for a little while, and I wanted to make a UA-cam channel like this, if I had the time. So I'm really happy to see someone do it. I love how mechanically deep this game is, but everyone wrote it off too quickly to realize. I hope you keep at this, because it is fantastic.
same, but I just post replays instead :( I don't have editing skills.
I genuinely love your content so far. I’ve always been a fan of melee content (even though I’ve never played it) and since there is a severe lack of brawl content I feel like I’m finally being filled in on something I’ve been missing.
Guys, stop fighting! New Brawlternative.
Keep making videos about all of the jank in this game. I love it.
Missed opportunity to call Part 4 Twin Snakes
DUUUUUUUUUUUUDE NOOOO IT WAS RIGHT THERE TOOO
love this channel already. thank you for picking apart one of the many games that permanently rewired my brain
I read the title and I instantly tought 'Port Order Priority? How does that affect Snake disproprotional?'
Enjoying the content even though I never had that much interest in brawl!
I especially appreciate the P.E. music at the end.
Parasite Eve OST is banging. But the music definitely doesn't fit this channel, so I wanted a way to sneak a song in. The big contrast to the super high-energy Part 4 song was the perfect opportunity
bridget mirror in strive is slightly favored towards one side of bridget due to a mixup she can only do while facing the right wall
I also learned that some Tekken mirror matches are uneven because of the 3rd dimension, which is cool
I already started loving this channel but I freaked out at the Lego Racers 2 OST. Keep up this amazing work, please!
port priority my beloved
I love your vids bro!!! Youre doing what very few ppl dared to do and i respect the hell out of that, keep going!!
Loving the jumbo josh content! When are we seeing the "Banbanternative" spin off channel?
didn't expect so many people to recognize him with his accidental cameo in the last video so I put him in this one too LMFAO
All these interesting competetive Brawl facts that I never knew about. Only ever heard that Meta Knight is broken. Thanks for these awesome videos!
Rather have quality than quantitiy, and I am loving this quality :) Great stuff, try not to be overworked!
New Twin Snakes video, I am SO ready
im so glad you're gaining traction, love that brawl is getting some love too ❤
0:14 Snake ditto as in player 2, because Ditto is literally in this game and that’s makes the statement a bit confusing
buddy I’m sure you’re the only one who doesn’t know when the word “ditto” is used as a term
Yep, this is good content. What quality editing! And what fascinating content. Plus the music choices are great. Keep it up, man!! This is excellent shit!
This is an utterly cursed fact and I love it. Brawl is the fighting game ever.
Yet another banger. I love your content. Thank you for keeping Brawl alive
2:56 holy fucking shit is that jumbo josh
I don't play Smash competitively (or much at all, not having a Nintendo) but I love learning about speed running, competitive scenes, etc as an outsider. Your videos have a great flow of information that's easy for a layman to pick up and understand the lingo and mechanics and your production quality and editing are top notch. You're going to reach a lot of people.
So you're saying... One of the Snakes is 'dominant' and the other is 'recessive', making one better than the other?
I can’t believe how well this channel is doing, this is awesome!!!
WAKE UP BABE BRAWLTERNATIVE DROPPED
