An old school method to prevent kinks and pipes that are being bent. You first have to fill the pipe with sand, both ends capped to prevent sand leaking out. The sand provides internal strength which prevents tube kinks
Right 👍👍
Lisle and Astro tools make an exhaust pipe expander that works great. I use a 1/2 impact on mine and swell pipe nearly everyday. Those cheaper ones are just I tried them prior.
I messed the threads up on the set I have already but I finished the job lol
Get the astro if you plan on swelling much exhaust pipe. It covers 1.5 -4" , cost around 110-120$ but it works well. You swell some back off and turn it, go again.
@@BDauto86 Thanks and I looked at some online and may order them soon for $99 on Amazon.
It’s cause you used the wrong size dia you need to dia to hug the pipe if the pipe is loose in the dia it will do that every time the hugging tight on the pipe will prevent it from collapsing on the sides of where your bending
I was thinking to get it. Anyway thanks for demo.
No problem!
just a idea been trying to figure out how to not kink pipe..2 pipe expanders 2 rubber plumbing caps ..put one cap in the pipe backards an put expander into the cap adjust expander to secure the cap in the pipe fill pipe with water an do the same with cap and expander on the other end .. might keep the pipe from crushing .
I never tried it but may try doing that sometime. Thanks for the idea and have a great day
I am not sure if anyone has mentioned it already but I've been wondering if you could fill the pipe with sand and that would act as a mandrel to keep the pipe from collapsing but also be able to flex.
I seen one guy do it like that and it did help some. Good idea for sure
I have did it works really good the best is if it’s small enough to cap the ends and feel with water and put in the deep freezer when it’s froze then bend it but like I said it has to be small enough to fit the freezer but it does work
What about heating with rose bud?
You just saved me alot of money
I have some other pipe I'm going to try on it and if that works I will do a follow up video on it. The other pipe is a softer metal so it may work on it.
fill and pack with sand, then cap off the ends prior to bending, it works, I have the same bender.
I will have to try that some time
@@MrJustDIY YES. I have seen some other videos here where they try using one size smaller die. Most claim some improvement in shape.
The only other remedy I have seen for that is to fill your tube up with sand.
@@lestergillis8171 Yeah, using a die that matches or slightly smaller than the pipe radius will keep the sides from squishing out which is partly what causes kinks like that
@@1OMEGA111 I DO believe that I've seen that issue addressed on other videos here as well, ☆☆☆☆☆.
Dude you look like Donnie Baker. Lol. Good video. I second the sand method or I’ve even used dirt packed tight in it with clamp on rubber caps
Thanks
Can I bend 2 7/8 oil field pipe ?
Try cutting like 50 to 65 percent of the way through the pipe using a reciprocating saw and weld it back together once the bend is made. Cut on the side that faces up or is away from the die
I may try that thank you
I'm thinking about getting myself one to try and build a custom motorcycle frame
I would go with something else
Where did you get the tailpipe expander?
I ordered them off of ebay it was a set of 3.
Perfect. Weld it up and ship it.
You need to move the outer die's closer in. You're allowing for too much leverage on the pipe, which is causing it to kink. Those powered hydraulic benders keep all that stuff tight together so it doesn't have leverage to kink as much. move the outer dies closer to center.
Hi, can you do 2” rigid pipe?
I’m not sure I haven’t really used it after this video but I do need to try some more stuff out on it.
Can you bend square tubing ?
No
looks like a good bend to me
It's a bend for sure lol
Heat with torch?
I tried and it didn't help
I think one of the problems is as I read through the comments hardly anybody knows the difference between a pipe and a tube. That is a pipe bender, not a tube bender. By the way you could put some heat on it since it’s not going to be a pressure peice
I've seen others do it and just had to try it out to see if it works. I have done some pipe and it worked ok but still not that great
Sand filler should prevent kinking the pipe.
I think that is for bending bars, not pipes.
Yeah but I seen other people bend pipes with them
The wheels are too far out on top tension and compression
Pipe and tubing out side size are different. This is a pipe bender.
Right but I have seen other videos that they were able to bend some with it
Most people don’t know The difference between a pipe and a tube. I know this because I’m a boilermaker and I’ve always heard A lot of people that have no idea the difference between the two call tubes pipes. I work for one boss Who would fire you if you called a tube a pipe😂
Fill pipe full of Oil Dry, cat litter, tape up ends.
Great tip!
Your Pipe flattens out because it has room to expand if you containment with a half pipe over the center of your day of the same diameter of your pipe it will have nowhere to go
Thanks for the info I will give it a try for sure
Nice try ...hopefully it works on the thinner pipe but im sure you will find an alternative use for it either way 👍
Thanks Keith, I hope it does also, I got it to do some exhaust work. I will find out soon since I'm picking up the other exhaust pipe next week.
@@MrJustDIY good luck with it hopefully it works 🙏
Find a pipe of the same diameter schedule 40 or better cut it to the half diameter or radius so that it cradles the top side of your pipe so that your pipe has nowhere to expand
I will give it a try thanks
A good fit with dies will help, but TRY MOVING the top 2 dies as close as possible to center and KEEP REPOSITIONING THEM OUTWARD as you approach binding. That's how I would try it. I don't have one, BUT I'm a smart mfer. Then I wake up! Lol
Ok
So isn’t pipe different from tube? Tube is generally thin walled, pipe is thicker...
Yes it is different
Yes pipe and tube are different. Not only thin wall and heavy wall
But a pipe consist of two pieces seamed together Where as a tube is a solid no seam
Pipe is measured in schedule
Tube always in or mm
Pipe is always round
Tubes can be Triangular square and round
You need to make end plugs from wood then fill the pipe with sand. Then it will hold its shape when bending.
Lay it FLAT,(on the foor).
I will give it a try the next time I use it.
That was operator error
Nope DA Bless Your Heart
Fill it full of sand and lala....no kinks
I would return it. That's a pretty expensive 16 ton bottle jack!
I have some other pipe that I'm going to try on it and if that doesn't work I have some other ideas for it.
Probably should heat it up first
