Alfa Romeo GTV Rocker Cover & Intake Manifold Restoration

  • I found this 20-year-old Alfa Romeo GTV V6 engine rocker cover and intake manifold very cheap and thought it would make a perfect restoration project. This is one of the dirtiest, most burnt on and badly cast rocker covers I have come across. Making it an ideal candidate for a Restoration video.

Very good job, better than the original, worth even to restore the smallest screw of this legend. I love Alfa Romeo.

Even though it’s not the original layout it’s still looks awesome 👏🏻

Looks great. Aluminum dissipates heat great. We were taught that using paint and polish can inadvertently cause it to retain heat worse than cast iron sometimes. Especially on smaller and air-cooled engines.

Considering that the V6 24V has a cold air intake, heat dissipation isn't really an issue there.
The valve cover of this engine was offered by Alfa in different finishes over the years from silver, to crackle black, to red, to "bare" aluminium, even the "bare" finish had a clear coat on it.
I don't know what the heat dissipation coefficient of an unpainted aluminium valve cover is, but if that's the last thing standing between you and overheating an engine with water and oil cooling, your engineering isn't very good.
Air cooled engines aren't really air cooled, they are primarily cooled by oil and then by the airflow over the cylinder barrels.

Good job, but I am missing the different products you used as grinding tool, sanding paper roughness, lacquer etc.

Looked better silver with red. Also the bare metal radiates heat better so it improves the air density and performance. Slightly.

The best possible restoration would be an actual restoration, not redesign. 😉But it is beautiful. ❤

Hi, thank you for sharing this. I have an Alfa GTV v6 and would like to do something similar but do not have much experience. Would you mind explaining what tools you used, I noticed the Dremmel but was unsure about the various discs used. What was on the Yellow bench tool and also on the angle grinder please? I assume paints were primer, VHT red gloss then a lacquer? Thx

This wasn't a restoration, it was nothing more than a cleanup and paint, though it still looks good.
