In part 4 of my engine bay restoration project, here I remove the following parts;
Front bank spark plug cover
Coil pack wiring looms x2
Coil packs x6
Valve covers / rocker covers x2
Chrome intake runners / trumpets
Fuel injectors x6
Fuel rails x2
Throttle body

So happy this stuff exists. I have a 156 gta. It really pained me when coil pack went on Cyl 3. I was dreading taking off the plenum. You talked me through it very well indeed, and I think the next time, I'll have it done in an hour 👍.

I noticed a few small bits missing from my 156 v6 cf3 engine bay and also now know the correct place for the earth points for the wiring loom. On my car the rear earth was on one of the cam cover bolts. Also on my car there´s a small thin earth wire running fron one of the ecu bolts straight to the negative battery terminal, I suppose this is not there from the factory...

Only thing I would have don’t is to plug all the inlet holes with blue paper as they are exposed, just to eliminate the risk of foreign object entry into the engine.
What can I say…….I promise I was careful Jason! Haha. They are now covered over with tape at least. I hope you find the series useful for your own project 👍🏼
Another good video Rick must admit your inlet runners look good for minor pitting try tin foil the shiny side rub it over and it may improve things having them re chromed is quite expensive
Thanks for the tip. I’ve heard tin foil also works great with full fat Coca-Cola for rust too!
Yes, they are indeed in very good condition considering their age but I do vaguely remember the previous owner telling me he had someone polish them up a little bit. As you say, re-chrome is an expensive job so I’m hoping I can get away with it for now
Hi can you show how to disconnect the ECU plugs, I heard they are tricky to remove and the clips can break.

Thanks Matt. Yes, I’m currently liaising with a company called CP Fuel injection to get all 6 injectors flow tested with a full report. This should also involve ultrasonic cleaning if needed
Silly question: What is the tool you're using to remove the clips at 6:00 ? I'm going to be replacing my injectors soon and need one! Also, are the clips reusable or best to get new ones?
Does the Engine has to be turned of for an specific amount of time for the Fuel system to release the pressure?
I wanted to replace my fuel lines a while ago but the system still had pressure in it.
Hello Rick, I have a GTV 3.0 V6 24V, I recently changed the throttle potentiometer and now the engine regulates at 1000 rpm, how can I adjust it to 700 rpm?
This content is gold! Many good tips and tricks, but I would have filled those holes with paper or cloth towels to prevent the screws from falling in. Maybe you are more careful?😉 I believe your engine is a cf3 though, since I have 2 cf2 engines, a 2.5 from a 156 and a 3.0 from a 166 and I have the ECU's in front of the passengers feet and not in the engine bay. Is your engine a 220hp unit?
Haha, indeed, I was aware of it and yes I am extremely careful. As you can see they are now covered over with tape.
Yes my car is a CF3, ECU situated behind the plenum chamber directly above the exhaust manifold. Such a ridiculous place to put it for sure! God only know why they didn’t locate it inside the car.

Thank you Sir. Yes, I will be replacing every nut and bolt with new stainless steel. Titanium would be nice but I’m not really concerned about saving weight really.

Nice vid Rick, I will tidy my engine bay too this weekend, did you consider a carbon plenum + intake and Ferrari f430 throttle body mod on yours? U can get a bit more power (260 +/-) if u chip tune it afterwards
Hi, yes I’ve seen the carbon plenums, but, I’ll be honest, I simply just don’t like the look of them. An upgrade throttle body will definitely be on the cards in the future however I think I may go for the 78mm Porsche option from the Cayenne.
