Also another lever action from the era you might find interesting would be the savage model 99, it used a rotary, internal magazine, also capable of using spitzer bullets. It has an interesting brass round counter in the side of the receiver. Chambered in a lot of cartritges, 303 savage, 300 savage, eventually in later production 308 winchester, but noat interesingky the 250 savage. It was a 300 savage case necked down to .257 diameter, and was the first cartidge capable of exceeding 3000 fps. It was colloquially known as the 250-3000, and is now the parent case of the 22-250 cartridge.

I dont think russia was searching for another, more affective rifle compared to the mosin m91. They even licensed remington to produce the m91 mosin for them during the war, they just couldnt get enough. But this wasnt a unique problem in the great war. The british already had Winchester, along with remington and eddystone, making the pattern 1914 enfield rifles. With russia in dire need they turned to winchester, who rechanbered the rifle to 54r, and put a charger bridge on the reciever to accommodate stripper clips.
Also notably, the 95 winchester in .405 Winchester was a favourite rifle of Theodore Roosevelt, reffering to it i belive as his big stick.

Oh yes, the order that bankrupted New England Westinghouse company after Bolsheviks Revolution. That’s another interesting topic. Great to hear from you, Joe!
