  • For most of us, a Winchester lever action rifle evokes images of the Old West. Mention the Model 1895, and we think of Teddy Roosevelt's fondness for it as his "Big Medicine" hunting rifle, as well as … the Imperial Russian Army? Intrepid Brownells gun techs Steve Ostrem and Keith Ford are back at Rock Island Auctions to show us a pristine, out-of-the-box-new Russian Winchester 1895. During World War I, Russia's need for infantry rifles so outstripped their arsenals' ability to produce Mosin-Nagant 1891 bolt action rifles, that huge orders were placed with Winchester for a military version of the 1895 chambered in 7.62x54R. It has a "musket" stock, bayonet lug, Russian-type rear sight, and provisions to use same stripper clips as the Mosin-Nagant. After service in the Great War and the Revolution of 1917, most surviving Russian 1895s are pretty beat up, but not this one - a VERY collectible example!

    Dear Brownells, Inc.,
Friendly reminder/request: May I requisition a video on the M1941 Johnson Paratrooper? Please and Thank You.
Like I had mentioned before in a previous video, it happens to be the one rifle my Dad regrets selling the most. It might also be the only gun that could rekindle my Father's passion for firearms. He was even an Olympic level pistol shooter during the 70's but alas his interest in guns has waned. Brownells has always been a trusted family name in our household throughout the years, and one of the few he still recognizes and respects. It would mean a great deal to me if this could be added to the video series "From the Vault".
Keep up the great work my friends.
    EDITED for double spacing.

In great shape, but contrary to the claim it is not complete--missing the upper hand guard...

Beautiful condition, but I believe you guys are wrong about that rifle being complete... it's missing the upper wooden handguard, the type with springs that hold it on the barrel, unless there was some reason some russian contract rifles had it and others did not?

That is a cool rifle I would never shoot it so it’s a safe queen but the chambering and it being a Winchester makes it very cool not to mention you can roast hot dogs with the bayonet lol I’m curious about the bayonet what does that look like?????
