I have a few succulents.. some have died but I have an arrangement that I bought in June 2020.. I lost one succulent from that arrangement but the other 3 are thriving well. So I saw the buttons and got so motivated to try them again!
Sometimes I don't have time to watch the video, but I still give it a thumbs up. ♥️
No worries Sarah, maybe put it in your "watch later" list. I appreciate the support.
Beautiful plants Best Succulents & Cacti for Beginners
CARMEN have a blessed New Year 2021 may God bless you and your family give a big hug to Rosie !!!
Thanks so much Happy New Year to you as well. 🎉
I love your cactus hanging planter.
Your voice is very clear easy to understand.
Thank You very much
You're so welcome! Years ago, I use to be an HR Trainer and did lots of presentations. I think I still have the skills. 😁😁
Hello from Canada, Quebec, I love your good advice, especially for indoor plants, winter is cold here so I am already bringing my plants indoors. You are also helping me With my english, i am french speaking. Have a Nice Day.

Hello, Carmen
I’m sorry it took this long for me to visit. It’s been a challenging year for everyone, and I had to tend to family.
Wishing you good health and happiness always,
Gerald😊
No worries Gerald. So glad you could visit and I appreciate your support. Let's hope next year is a better one. Happy New Year! 🎉😊
Love your channel. Thank you dear Carmen for the precious plant information you give us.
You are so welcome!
It's so weird. I don't hardly ever kill houseplants or succulents, but haworthia are the exception to that. I have killed so many zebra plants. For whatever reason I just can not figure those guys out, and it's a shame because they're stunning!
That's too bad Hilary! 😞 Maybe try changing the type of pot or soil you use. The location can have an affect too. Good luck and thanks so much for your support!
I enjoyed this one, Carmen! 👍🏼🙂
Thanks so much Anna. You're the expert on cactus, I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Happy New year! 🎉
Well guess what?? I started a small cacti collection!! I realized how beautiful the flowers are!!! I don't quite know which ones I have but they're ball shaped..parodia, echinopsis, or mammallaria types!!! I have a total of 5. I also got pups off of the echinopsis cactus that I have propagating! I can't wait to see them bloom!!!
Good for you Michelle! Some sun does encourage blooming, so give them some morning sun. Good luck!
I got afra mistook it for jade plant was quite dismayed but later on checking about afra found how good plant it is, like carbon sponge, elephant food, got vitamin C in leaves, not poisonous, medicinal benefits etc so very happy now to have got it.
Elephants to actually eat it too. But, for us it's a great succulent.
You are looking very beautiful.Happy growing and stay safe.
Thanks so much Tameka! Stay healthy, safe and have a Happy New Year! 🎉
I now have a list of cacti & succulents on my wish list. Thank you for the inspiration.
You're very welcome Laura! I'm so glad you're going to try them out.
Beautiful! I think I want to start getting into some more cacti!
I think you'll really enjoy them. Thanks for stopping by Sarah!😊🌱
Enjoyed watching your video so much, learning a lot! God bless Carmen
So glad you enjoyed it Cinthia!
I am starting to love some of the cactus and succ. Plants
They can definitely hook you and get you buying more. Thanks for watching!
That thimble cactus is sooo cute!
It is a cutie! 🌵🌵
I love all of your videos and I enjoy seeing your plants. Oh, I also enjoy seeing Rosie. I just started growing succulents indoors about six months ago You are right, over watering can be a problem. I have killed a few succulents here and there.
Thanks so much for stopping by Sue. Happy New year!
Love this! Cacti are my new obsession! I feel like I always go through waves of favs.
Much love
It's like potato chips, you can't have just one! LOL! Thanks for watching. 😊🌱😊🌱
Never had luck with succulents and cactus years ago, maybe 40 years. Lol. Over loved them. Now I am more knowledgeable and have a few of each. Thought I’d start with just a few. They are all doing fine. Thanks for showing us your collection and for sweet Rosy. Have a healthy and blessed 2021. 🇨🇦
Good for you Susannah! Hope you can add more to your collection this year. Happy New Year to you as well. 🎉
Ooo a list with cacti hurray!! I def gotta put that thimble cactus on my list

Thank you Elizabeth! Happy New Year to you as well. 🎉
💚
Mountain Crest is a great place to order succulents.
Great video Carmen. I was gifted a beautiful succulent arrangement for Christmas. Thank you for the knowledge.
That's great Sheila! If you want, you can separate that arrangement in the Spring and pot them up individually.
@@carmenwhitehead Oh my, this newbie was thinking of separating them soon. ☺ (I'm in the SF/Eastbay) Thank you again for your knowledge. 🙂
Hey Carmen, great video. Lots of good info. Thank you! Hope you’re having fabulous holidays!!
Thanks so much for stopping by. Happy Holidays to you! 🎁🎄🎁🎄
My haworthia wash board has not been doing Well. Still trying to keep it alive. Love succulents and cacti vidéo. Thanks
Sorry to hear that. You may try repotting it into fresh soil or checking your watering schedule. Hope this helps.
@@carmenwhitehead I have change the soil today hope it works.
HAPPY NEW YEAR.
To you and your family.
Thank you , Happy New Year to you as well.
I agree with all of them!
I'm starting to like some cacti & succulents. In summer I put them outside in the shade & winter them inside under a grow light. This is the first year I haven't killed them.
On a non plant note--that pink sweater looks lovely on you. It's a good colour for you.😊
Good for you on your success with succulents. Thanks for the compliment, it's an old sweater and I just happened to pull it out for this video.
Thanks for sharing ❤️🙏🏽❤️
No problem 😊
Thanks for sharing 😊
You're very welcome Lorraine! Have a Happy New Year! 🎉
I got the little, little zebra one. It was $3 @lowes a little over a year ago. Instructions read...give it one oz of distilled water once a month😂too funny! (It's "still" alive, lol) Huggs 🤗 to sweet little Rosey🐾💓🐾
Thanks Sharon, Rosie sends hugs back! 🐶 One oz of water per month? That doesn't seem like too much at all. LOL!
Wishing you a healthy happy new year 🎆🤓
Happy New Year Carmen🥂🥂
Happy New Year! 🎉😊
I have the fairy washboard now I know it’s botanical name thanks to you 🍀💐🌹🦜
So glad the video was helpful. Happy New Year! 😊🌱
Great info, I have 5 cactus now I think a couple are succulents not sure. lol
Happy New Year
Sounds like a great collection Rhonda! Have a Happy New Year also! 🎉🎉
New here. Nice to find your channel. Great picks and all the info was on point. No pun intended :)
LOL! I get it. Welcome to the community, so glad you're here. 😊🐶😊🐶
I like your combo pot of the Portulaca and sticks on fire. I think I’ll put mine together in a pot too. 👍🏼Thanks for the video!
You're very welcome Jennifer. Glad I could inspire you. Happy New Year! 🎉
Another great video! You always inspire😊 Hello Rosie Girl, listen to your mommy, lol
She doesn't run out the door like she did when she was young. I remember having to chase her around the block! She stays close now, she knows who feeds her. LOL!
Good list, Echeverias are also good for beginners, new subscriber
Thanks for subbing! Yes, they are and a great variety. thanks for watching! 🐶🌱😊
Thanks i have trouble wirh all my string ofs i have killed them all. Do you have a video on just them like the alie one you talked about
That's actually a really good video idea. I will definitely work on that. Thanks Tinamarie!
@@carmenwhitehead I have the same problem!! I'm in Australia but where I live we have very hot, dry summers, but cold winter's with deep frosts....
Gorgeous Pencil Cacti.😍 I really like the Echeveria but kill everyone I get. ?? Happy New Year Carmen an Rosie! 🥳
Echeveria can be tricky, that's why I didn't include them in this list. Happy New Year to you as well Sherry, thanks for all your support this past year! 🎉🎉
I am growing my Euphorbia trigona rubra in almost 💯 percent scoria since I keep it outside in full sun down here in Florida, also if you peel an Aloe leaf and blend the clear part slime and all, you can use that as a very good growing hormone...great info and great video.
That's very good tip David, I had not heard of that. I will have to give it a try. Thanks so much and Happy New Year! 🎉
@@carmenwhitehead Happy New Year's to you too 🎉🎉
Thank you for the lovely video! I just gave a friend of mine a few of dragon fruit seedlings(I planted a bunch of them in August and they all grew!) and a zebra Haworthia that was looking so pretty I almost didn't give it to her and kept it for myself😁. I am now separating my triplet Euphorbia trigona to give one to another friend along with some dragon fruit seedlings as well.
That's so nice of you to share the planty love and kindness! That's what it's all about. Have a very Happy New Year! 🎉🎉
@@carmenwhitehead Thanks! If there is one good thing this quarantine life gave me it's a lot of extra plant love so I want to spread the joy 😁
Oh, and a Happy New Year to you too!!
The little zebra I sent you sure makes a lot of babies when they get bigger. I’ve shared many with friends and YT friends as well.
I'm looking forward to it really growing in the Spring. Thanks so much for watching and Happy New Year!
Let’s pray 2021 is a safe and HEALTHY YEAR! For many!!!
The whole world REALLY!!!
Hi Carmen, unrelated question, do you have a Birkin? I was watering and turning plants today and noticed my Birkin has gone crazy with growth. She is such a beautiful plant with so much white striping. She’s become one of my favorites.
I do have a Birkin. A few months ago it was battling Spider Mites and now it's getting new growth in it's recovery. I have it under a grow light in my bedroom now.
Hi Carmen, nice to se you, beautiful plants, and thanks for sharing, i show what i do whit my hortensias i winter, a lot of greetings from Serbia-Europe !
I have a few cactus 🌵 and succulents but I tend to avoid them. I really don’t have a great place for them. I live in a darker house and have limited space. I may move them under grow lights.
Do you consider String of Hearts a succulent? Would you use Tanks Green Stuff in a SOH?
Thanks for another great video.
yes, they are a succulent Vicky and I have my little one in the Tank's soil. Thanks so much for watching!
String of banana, string of fish hook and burnos I keep on killing them. Any tips you can share please.
I will be making a "string of" video soon, so stay tuned.
What type of soil mixture do you use for your succulents? I don't have many but I've been using b the miracle gro cactus mix and its very lightweight soil and works great. I just bought a String of buttons..its trailing! How long do I wait before I can repot it? I want to put it in a bowl planter.
Omg... I have orchid mix too!! Ok you just answered my questions in the video!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Those soil combinations are great. Anything that will make the soil chunky and free draining (pumice, perlite). they tend not to have big root systems, so careful in putting them in too big a pot or damaging the roots.
Do you put a sheet directly on them to protect from frost?
Yes, It's very light and gives them just enough protection from the frost.
Hi..how to propogate and care for string of pearls?
I do have a "string of" video planned for January. Thanks for watching!
What gloves do you use when you handle your cacti?
I usually wear gloves that have a thick rubber on the palm and fingers section.
Do you seal your terracotta pots?
No, I want them to be porous and breathe.
I have the burgundy 'string of bananas' (I know that it's not really, as it has a yellow flower) and it's really easy to grow too, but what do I do when they are too long?
That one is called Ruby Necklace. It is a beautiful plant.
@@carmenwhitehead I wish that I was able to send you photos of the succulents that I have, as most of them were pieces that didn't come with names, and lots are crested or relatively rare and I have no idea what they are called!!
@@carmenwhitehead when it gets too long (this goes for the other 'string of ..... ' ones as well) , how can I cut them to propagate them?
Its the gnome in the pot of sticks of fire! That' s the growing secret 😉
Indeed it is!😊🌱🐶
Aww.. what a great recommendation for us ! Carmen, may I ask you are you still planting succulents babies now?🤩🤩🤩🥰🥰🥰
Yes I am! although I have recently moved across the country and gave many of my cactus to my son. But, now I'm rebuilding my collection.
@@carmenwhitehead That's great! Hope everything is well and looking forward to your vlogs.🥰🥰🥰Btw, we are The Next Gardener, an online nursery for succulents babies. Will you do any collaboration? We have sent you an email before and want to send you some soil and succulents for free.🤗🤗🤗
@@calvinparker9592 Yes, I would be interested send me another email. I do need to rebuild my collection. Thanks!
@@carmenwhitehead Hello Carmen, I hope everything goes well in your rebuilding project! We hope to send you some free soil and succulent plants, hoping they can help your greenhouse more beautiful! By the way, I just sent you a new collaboration email. Please kindly check it. Thank you. Wish you a happy day!🥰🥰🥰
How was your Christmas
It was very quiet. No big family get together, so I miss my nieces and nephews. But, I was able to spend time with my kids and their spouses. How about you?
I really miss you lady.
Are you still doing video
I have not seen anything presently
Are you ok
Yes, I'm good. Just got burned out on social media and taking a break. Thanks for asking.
