I just looked it up cuz I'm a stupid American, "surgical spirits" is rubbing alcohol.
Everyone have a peaceful, green new year.❤🌺
😅thank you!
Thank you I was about to do it too but you saved me time. I’m American too 😂
I immediately said what the heck are “surgical spirits” lol😂
Thanks for the info. I never heard it called that either.
Thank you!😊
Amaryllis tip: they need a warm place to get started and the warmer it is, the faster they grow. I learned this the hard way - provided lots of extra light for over a month and saw no growth at all. Then I put on the heater under them, and they started growing right away.
You bring joy to me and so many others and your channel is a wonderful escape from stressful news and negativity. Thrips-free (=happy) new year and thanks for being you!
Great stuff 👍
So excited about all the natural light pouring into your new house
Happy New Year to all plant parents! 🍀
My orchids just started flowering again. I don't cut the stems back ever so they keep flowering pretty much all year round 😊 🌸
HAPPY NEW YEARRRRRRR
Happy new year!
Happy new year! 🎉 New year New plants hehehe🌱
My orchid still has a full spray of flowers on two stems. No idea what I've done, but she's a happy bunny lol
Happy new year happy new home😊
Hi! I have a 10" barrel cactus. To hold it while transplanting it, I take a newspaper made longer by layering and roll it up. Wrap the newspaper around the cactus so that you have a handle on both ends. Hold the two handle ends together. This works very well and I walk away unscathed.
I've been wrapping in bubble wrap the same way 😊
Wooden tongs and newspaper 👍
your plant supporters are adorable
You need to reupload the same video twice with different months in the title for us southern hemisphere viewers lol!
😅
As a girl in Australia, that's a big yes
@Beepbeep_its_treasure yes! I'm NZ and I totally agree! 😂
@@1984NatashaT nice! I was born there 🙏. Also the same birth year as you! (Christchurch)
Lol
The new home is stunning! Also a dangerously large amount of room for more new plants...
Thank you 😊
I am so thrilled that I found you. Your channel is so educational and I would be lost without you. I now own the meter for checking moisture. Such a game changer, I was over watering. Massachusetts USA
Coming from California, USA, we have lots and lots of Bird of Paradise in our yard. Since our climate in Southern California is usually warm and sunny, it is important to remember that we have a Marine Layer in the morning and in the evening. That means we get damp morning and evenings, and bright and sunny days. Our Bird of Paradises usually grown in a semi shady area under trees. They are very hardy, and just come up year after year. They are easy to grow here, but I've never seen them grown indoors. Good luck with them they are a beautiful and colorful plant.
Do they flower every year?
@@SheffieldMadePlants They grow very quickly in the ground and seem to have the flower almost year round due to the mild California climate. They don't look great with so many flowers. It can look very messy with a lot of sap(?) substance everywhere. It needs to be pruned often.
Our bird of paradise is outside in full west facing in dry hot Central Vic, Australia. Endless flowers, but we will have to divide it up soon, it getting huge.
I hope the new year will bring peace, beautiful plants and good health to you all 🕊
Please post an update on that begonia leaf propagation..would be highly helpful..
Always so delightful to see another fantastic installment of "Plants with Mr. Sheffield!"
Happy New Year. The new house has amazing window space and I bet the plants are delighted. Can't wait to see how spring/summer goes for you
Happy new year!
I keep my orchids in see thru pots. Either as they are in their plastic pots or plastic pots inside glass pot. Not ceramics . I learned that from plant program about orchids and how to grow them. Apparently we make mistake in keeping them in ceramic pots so since then, I keep them in see thru pots.👍
Absolute best start to the New Year.. coffee, and a new Sheffield Made Plants video! Your new home is a terrific setting for your beautiful plants, and it will be so much fun to see and learn about all those lovely new green friends. Love, love, love this channel, thank you! A very Happy New Year to you and your family!
Thank you 😊 Happy new year!
Happy New Year Mr. Sheffield ❤
So touching to see a new video from you!
Thank you for your time and expert advice on all things plants! ☘️
Happy new year!
Good to see you back Mr Sheffield. Another good video, I struggle with getting enough light, I do have grow lights and 2 plant cabinets, with grow lights in them. But I live in a low ceiling cottage in Lancashire and only get sun at the front of the house, so it’s a constant struggle for light. Your new house looks great, lots of light, looking forward to see what you have for us this year. 😊
My Christmas cactus just began to bloom… after Christmas! lol!🎄😊
Enjoy it through the winter! I'm enjoying my amaryllis that finally bloomed the last of 4 flowers yesterday!
My first attempt at amaryllis this Christmas! Kept them in front of a southern window and didn't see any growth for 4 weeks. Finally, it grew almost 3 feet tall, and happily all 4 flowers opened, 1 every 3 or 4 days. So beautiful. Flowers are huge, each bigger than my hand.
Great aren’t they!
Happy new year mr & mrs sheffield! Your love for plants is infectious!
Happy new year!
Happy New Year. I have so many grow lights for my plants because of you. They are doing so well. They are all Sansi of course. I only have one good window so I really need the lights. I only had two plants when I started watching your videos. Now I’m able to have 31 with more on the way. I’m an avid outdoor gardener, so being able to do so in the house is wonderful. You’ve been so helpful.
Great stuff 👍
Just found this channel. Absolutely love it. I’m a semi successful houseplant keeper and am starting to get the bug. Thank you
Thanks for watching 😁
Discovered your helpful channel today 😊 Would love a video about plants which thrive in shade as not much natural light in my house and no room for extra lights. Happy 2025 in your bright new home! 🎉
Happy new years my plant friend. LOVE YOUR CHANNEL
Happy new year!
So glad you finally got a bird of paradise! It’s the one thing I really needed advice on since I started
When I lived in California I had a bird of paradise outside and it grew like crazy. It was beautiful!!
❤ those windows and the view. Just beautiful
My orchids only start to emerging flowerspikes😂big hello and Happy New Year from London🎉
The split leaf is also an indicator of being dehydrated (on the orchid).
Your new home and plants look wonderful. I live in an area where Bird of Paradise are planted on the edges of streets and in parks. They need lots of light to flower but are very hardy. Enjoy yours!
Thanks!
27:43 Two of my 3 spider plants have pups. On Monday (12-30-24) I cut off 4 of them, and I put them in soil. This is my first time trying to propagate them so I'm excited to see if they make it!
Plants are looking great in your new home. Helpful video as always, thank you!
Happy New Year! I love what you’ve done with the new place. Your plants look beautiful and happy. 🫶🏼♥️
Happy new year!
The new Sheffield Towers is looking so lovely, and wow your garden ! What a beautiful view, happy new year Mr S 🌿💚🌿
Happy new year!
The plants in your new home are looking lovely. Re your Birds of Paradise plant, there’s a large planter inside Milton Keynes shopping centre, they all seem to flower really well, but there are lots of windows and skylights.
Re the orchid you cut the stem right back to the base of the plant, all the specialist UA-camrs I watch and read say cut back to the last two nodes 🤷🏻♀️
Happy New Year to you 🥳
It was pretty much done flowering so i can it off. If there are buds to open then yes cut back there
Happy New Year! 😊 Enjoyed todays video. Your plants 🪴 look wonderful in their new home and it's nice that you have extra room to go plant shopping 😄. Your Peperomia Santorini must be the variegated cousin to my solid deep green Peperomia Rosso - such beauty and no work!
Happy new year!!
Happy new year to you all, and hope your evening your new house 🎉
Happy new year!
I have a Rex begonia that is really lush. I didn’t know you could propagate it that way. Thanks!!
My grandmother used to propagate them there's a little seed in the flower and you have to kind of hunt for it but it's in there and it'll grow more bird of paradise
Happy New Year to all of you - and Mr. Sheffield and his family!! I can hardly wait for the Begonia leaf to make plants!!!! I love that hanger! I have never grown a Monstera - I need one for this year. Yup. I've been doing a lot of "building" finishing my "cottage" so now I need to do a bunch of catch up with my plants. I am trying to over winter some "outside" plants too - that I grow in pots. I am praying they make it until warmer weather where they can go back outside. Thanks much!
Happy new year!
Love your channel.. When I see a new or old pop up I make a cuppa couple of biscuits & enjoy ..
Love that!
Great video. Love the new place. Glad you get to buy new plants 😊
Thank you 😊
Happy New Year and Hello from Colorado!!! Your conservatory is looking great!!
Thank you for sharing your videos!!
Happy new year!
It so amazing that you have a conservatory now 😀🇨🇦
Really glad I found your channel. Thanks for the advice!
Loving the new house and the wonderful natural light. I'm feeling very happy for you. Laughing to myself regarding the comments from the Americans who are confused by your use of the term surgical spirits. I live in Canada, but I'm British so I didn't bat an eyelid.😂 Happy New Year and good luck in your new home 🏡
Thank you for your videos! I’m starting out with houseplants and you teach a lot of great stuff.
Happy New Year, Rich!
A useful tip for you- maybe. I mix my own soil for my Alocasias- 1/3 Orchid, 2/3 all purpose (already made) and they seem to be loving this. I reduced light a bit for my Melo and it stopped going yellow. They still get the aeration they need and it does hold moisture better. Testing out how other Alocasias do and two Pink Dragon- one in a coir has no new leaves, almost all but two died off but are getting infloes and the other in the same mix as Melo and it has done absolutely nothing in months. No new leaves and only one died. Ninja is in orchid (mostly) and it has to be watered every few days but keeps giving new leaves, very few dying off. None are variegated, just normal, boring versions. I do hope this helps!
BTW- my Money Tree is still growing, with some leaves longer than the tree is tall. Looks funny but happy. I hope my tips help you as much as you helpled my Money Tree.
Thanks!
happy new years! 💚🪴
Happy new year!
Blessed Happy New Year!🥳🎉🎈As always, loved the video!❤
Happy new year!
HAPPY NEW YEAR Mr. Sheffield 🎊 🎉
Happy new year!
Happy New Year to you and your family.
As always another very interesting video.
Happy new year!
Fabulous video, beautiful new home x
Thanks!
Happy New Year 🌹🌹🇹🇹🇹🇹❤❤
Happy new year
VERY WELL EXPLAINED :)
THANK YOU FOR SHARING :)
THANK YOU FROM ISRAEL :)
Both my Strelitzia Nicolai grew over a meter in 1,5 years.. After this season, they will both have to be cut back and reset (ceiling about 240cm high)
Happy New Year, from Alberta Canada. Love your show, and your new house.
Happy new year!
Thank you!
@Sheffield Made Plants
Great video, thank. Perfect viewing for a lazy new years day.
A question if you don't mind... Do you consider a South facing window with a net curtain, full sun, or does the light through the net curtain count as shaded?
Cheers Richard, Happy new year to you and your family!
That would be part shaded. The curtain should block some of the light
Thanks for the upload, and a happy new year to you! Noticed you didn't have those funny little jump cut acting sketch things you're really good at (not that they're required, but still!), so I really hope you're doing well! Much love being sent to you from Germany!
Happy new year!
Excellent video 😊
Happy New Year! I didn't know you could propagate peperomia santorini with just the leaves like that. I'll give it a go and hope it works for me.
Happy new year!
HAPPY NEW YEARRRRRRR, to you and your family 🙌🏾😝✊🏾
Happy new year!
Just found your channel, was looking for Snake Plant tips and the top reccomendation was one of your videos. So When I saw you are also from Sheffield I had to subscribe.
Great stuff 👍
Your cactus looks like it's going to bloom pretty soon it's got those little white fluffy things near the top
Thank you for such a calming video))
Almost three years ago my sister gave me her Aglaonema that she had for years. She was moving and didn't want to take it with her. It was pretty sicky looking. Only had like 6 leaves and she had it in a huge pot staked with an old metal curtain rod. So I took it home and after about a week I was looking at it and I noticed that it was not straight. So I tried to straighten it out and accidentally snapped it off about 2" above the soil. Not being familiar with these plants, I dropped the top part in a jar of water and was about to throw the bottom part out (no leaves, just a small part of the stem) but decided to repot it into a small pot. Within a few weeks, the bottom part was putting out a little green nub. The top part in water was growing nice roots. Now after three years I have two Aglaonema
Plants. One about 18" tall with about 15 leaves and the small part in soil has 10 leaves and is about 8" tall. My other experiment was my 2 Ficus Tinekes. Both dropped almost all their leaves and were just two stems. So I chopped off the tops of both and put them in water. Both with a few leaves. I left the stems where they were just to see if they'd grow back. Oh I did chop about a 4" piece of each and put them in water. Well that was about 5 weeks ago and the two stems in the post are growing some nubs. The pieces in water are growing roots but the stem pieces I chopped off only one is looking like it will grown roots, the other looks like it is rotting. So yeah, you can propagate without leaves.
Good luck with the BoP Mr S!
Love the new space!
Thanks!
On the Amaryllis bulbs, I was watching either Garden Answer or Northlawn gardens and one of them said that it depends if the bulb came from the Northern Hemisphere or the southern hemisphere on when they will bloom. So likely the one thats blooming is from the Southern hemisphere and the others from the Northern Hemisphere . Northern are behind the southern of course. I just thought I’d pass that on to let you know. I have found that with mine in the past too. Hope thats helpful. Your new home is gorgeous and the outside looks AMAZING. I see running water and can’t wait to see it someday on your videos!
Interesting thanks
Bird of Paradise also have quite aggressive root systems, at least in the garden. I'm presuming it's the same in pots
They really do! I made the mistake of repotting mine a day after I got it ! I know , I know , what was I thinking ?!- I kid you not the root cut me lol. The repotting shock along with the cold weather aren’t helping my case but I will persevere 🙏🏾
Amazing! ❤
A very Happy New Year to you and family Richard🥂🍾 Omdayzzzz your conservatory and garden is my idea of absolute heaven! We moved early last year and although we have more space for the family, my plants have less light - unfortunately it was a no brainer! I also have a BoP and she's fairly old. I think she was around when my mum was still with us and she's been gone 11 years now. However she's never had the amount of sunlight she should have tbh. She's around 5ft tall, and yes there are two in the pot. I have one of those ?Hindu rope plants and it has those white blobs but it looks like mold not mealy bugs as there's no life present. When i remove it it's like marshmallow. Our new house is quite humid, so I'm having to consider a dehumidifier because of this white mold.
Happy new year!
Happy new year to all
Happy new year!
So far on the 1st day of this new year I've decapitated my Stick Yucca and divided it into 4 cuttings and planted a new Snake Plant into a vase full of pebbles and water, as I saw you do in an older video. Happy New Year.
Happy new year!
Beautiful view
Last year you inspired me to cut back my monstera and it was a raging success… I got 3 props and gave one to a friend. Today I cut back the original fully as I was scared to do it all at once and fail. I got 5 props and a couple sticks with nodes so hopefully I’m on my way to a jungle. My ficus have been looking sad, maybe I’ll give those a snip too! Happy new year!
Happy new year!
Hello from a fellow plant enthusiast from the U.S. (😐apologize for the poor decisions made by my country 😢) I just wanted to thank you for what you do I always learn something new from you !
Happy New Year to you and the Mrs🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Happy new year!
I discovered your channel today and I am so excited! Please could you give me some advice for Calathea. I have lost 3 plants in 2 months 😢 and I am so sad.
I've got a video coming out tomorrow on that
I thought for sure that catus was going to get you! Its time to take care of mine.
Happy New Year Rich!❤🎉
Happy new year!
Happy new Year
Happy new year!
Happy new year Mr Sheffield & fam 🎉
Happy new year!
Happy New Year, your views from your windows are awesome!!
Happy new year!
All my Amaryllis here in Florida bloom in March, and I can’t wait!! Another great video! Happy New Year to you and the Mrs.’s!! 🌱
Happy new year!
I think the older plants flower with lots of light. I put mine under a grow light. The white birds of paradise leaves get really big and the orange birds of paradise leaves not so big. They really like humidity too.
How do you propagate your Ficus?
yes please
With the philodendron I've done the same with my pachira aquatica (money tree). It looked like it was dying off and I had some troubles with it so I cut it all off. all the way to the steam, it's not growing happily, grew a new stem and continues to thrive.
In January, cut, cut, cut, I like it hahaha 😂Happy New Year🎉
Don’t have to cut spikes sometimes it will grow new flowers and cut spikes can have keikis when do it right.
“Surgical spirits” is a new one for me in the US. Love it!😂. Have you noticed a mood change living in the new house with so much more light? Myself and my plants perked up when we moved to a place with large south and west facing windows. Happy New Year Sheffields 🎉🎉🌱🤿🤙
Yeah it's all good 😊
My white paradise is almost 5 foot I wait for half the pot dry is when I give it water during the winter, a quarter in the summer and it really did look like those were white flies, but I couldn’t really see it. Amaryllis always started blooming in January for me and you’re right it’s probably about the lighting. Do you have a Thaumatophyllum spruceanum? It is a beautiful plant and it’s just one leaf, but it clones itself?, The leaf comes out of the leaf and I think you would really like it
Sounds interesting. Think i've seen it in the shops
Appears you moved house. Beautiful spot you have there Mr. Sheffield.
Thanks!
I believe that's Streletzia nicolai - the white bird of paradise. The cool thing about this species is that the arils on the seeds produce bilirubin, which is what your liver produces! It will get tall, BTW - I've seen them over 8' tall.
Happy New Year from California
Happy new year!
Is that thea lake it the back ground you really did it big plant guy 🎉🎉
No lake just hills
I've got a white barrel cactus that I have to repot. Its spines are pointier than the golden barrel. I had a golden barrel but it just died. It was a tiny baby. Don't know why it died but I'm gonna repot this big white barrel soon and one of my aloes. I've been doing quote a lot of repotting the last few days. 😊
Happy New Year!!
The real question is, how freakin excited are you for those windows and that view and garden???
Happy new year!! Very
