    Glad to see another fellow developer with an Elite Foreman. Also with a pwn water cooled spindle. Awesome! Bet you have some interesting plans with it, can’t wait to see! The difficult part is to find the time 😁
    It’s been 2 weeks since I received mine, but I don’t have the table yet :( hopefully in a couple more weeks. But everything else is good to go, including dust collection. And will be looking to also build an enclosure, since… well, I will have it in the office, so there can be absolutely no dust reaching my desk, laptop, couch and other things 😂

      I so happy to hear that you found this video useful. I get my bits from Oliver tool company which can also be found under drillman1, and I feel they are pretty good an inexpensive, been using them for about 9 months and have yet to have one snap or wear out. www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?ssPageName=&_ssn=drillman1 I am currently trying out some vbits from www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?ssPageName=&_ssn=yonico Precision Bits. I looked at a few tool databases for speeds and feeds and remarkably they all seem to be the same, so I just use amana for my speeds and feeds. Hope this helps.

    It might be a correction in my analysis where the Masso Probe diameter might be .25 instead of what I thought was .5"

    Thanks for your replies. Do you have suggestions on where on the bit to probe for Vbit, Flattening bit, etc. and the diameters. In Carveco, I'm trying to figure our if the bit shank diameter or the cutting diameter is relevant and which takes precedent in Masso with probing.
    I also tried to set the hard limit maximum and minimum in the general setting and under each axis. What I found was while using the probing screen in masso manually it worked great but when my program ran, it seemed to not pay attention. I then unclicked the ignore hard and soft limits and still the same. I am sure I am missing something but my Z access spindle mounting frame hits the far right side of my Z axis when running my slabbing program. My waste board is 49 x 48.5 so I tried your approach and set the probe diameter to .5" Any thoughts would be helpful.

      Mike,
      The probe uses the cutting area
      - for a v-bit it is the shank, all of my vbits are 0.125 diameter and that is what I use to probe
      - for a surfacing bit, these are a little trickey, and sometimes you need to lie to the controller.
      I use .5 for my 1 inch. but I do use the cutting edge of the surfacing bit. Remember to save settings.
      Explanation,
      When you are probing you are telling the machine where the center of the bit that you using is, that is all.
      The machine needs the diameter, because it divides it in 2.
      Lets look at a bit that is 0.125 but the shank is 0.25.
      if you probe off the flutes then use the flute diamter of 0.125.
      if you probe off the shank then use the shank diameter of 0.25. Either of these will tell the machine to align the center of that bit with the work origin point.
      Make sense so far?
      OK now about lying to the masso. if I tell the masso I am using a 1 inch bit, it will find the center of the surfacing shank and the edge of the cutter will hit the edge of my waste board, because Carveco will write the code to place the cutters of the bit on the vector. So I enter 0.5 and the moves my work origin to the left 0.5 inch and the instructions that carveco gave to place my bit on the edge are now 0.5 inches to the left and my shank is on the edge of my waste board.
      Another possibility is your waste board is to large. If it was me I would try putting the surfacing bit in and manually driving it around the waste board to see it you are safely covering the board.
      If not mark the waste board and cut it down.

    Lars, at around 23:25 of this video I believe I am seeing the diameter of the bit set at ".5" inches and your flattening bit is 1". When defining the tool in the Carveco Maker software I believe you have 1" flattening/slabbing bit. Is this how we should program the bit in Masso?

      Yeah I needed to set that at .5 to get it to move to overlap the edge of my wasteboard. I played with the origin until I got the x and y to hang over just a little bit. yes in carveco it was 1".

    Hi Lars, You cannot probe for xy a flattening bit :P That is what the 1.25 means, how far it will travel.

    You have code in the program for turning your coolant pump off and on? How have you set that up?

      Hello Jason, and thanks for the comment. I think you are thinking about the water cooled spindle? if so there is no way that I know of to turn that on and off through G-Code. There is a coolant code, but that would spray liquid on the bit as it cut. I wish I could help you out but I do not know if we could tie them together. But I just leave my pond pump to circulate the RV antifreeze all winter long. It keeps it from getting slushy. But you have given me an idea for this summer that I am going to look into. :)

As I write this, I am standing in front of my elite foreman trying to get it to the point where I can screw down a waste board. As far as I can tell you and I have the same set up (CNC and spindle) everything you have presented is 100% relevant. Keep those videos coming!

      Hi Lars and Jason, I currently have a Journeyman Elite with a PWN water cooled spindle. I have the coolant circulation pump hooked up through the vacuum auto on/off socket. I use a Grizzly dust collector that I turn on with a remote control so that vacuum socket was available. I'm using Carveco Maker to generate the cut paths which inputs the correct M-codes (M08 flood coolant on and M09 flood coolant off) to turn on and turn off the vacuum socket which can double as the spindle coolant on/off. This works great if you don't use that socket in the power supply to turn on your vacuum. Don't forget to hook up power with the vacuum power cord that came with the machine. Hope tjhis helps.
