    I went from not being able to stand long enough to finish a load of dishes because of a birth injury to learning to do things that I couldn't even do in my early twenties! These videos have changed my life forever and they are still changing me. Thank you Sarah Beth! ☺️

    Good morning SarahBeth. I found your video series earlier this week and have been following most days and forwarding your link to friends. What I appreciate most is the time for each pose. I've always preferred a slower pace so my muscles can fully engage or relax depending on the particular posture or routine. Your videos are 'clean', no distractions, very well made. Thank you for putting these together and making them available.

    I've never been able to sit straight up with my legs straight out without being in severe pain (I am very flexible in every other part of my body though, so it's always surprised my dance and yoga teachers) so I'm hoping doing this everyday will help me make great strides in finally being able to comfortably touch my toes. Edit: If this doesn't work I'll see a doctor about other possible causes, but I'm hoping I was just born with unusually tight hamstrings and can fix it with stretching.

      i relate to this alot! some days, i have to do a lot of self-testing to check if i need stretching or strengthening. if it's chronically tight like that, i found out via my physical therapist that in my case (of course everyone is different, so definitely get your own doctor's opinion), i was stretching my chronically tight hamstrings and in the long run, that wasn't the way to go - what i needed to do was to strengthen them because my sciatic nerve seemed to be the problem. in short, my hamstrings were tightening because they were trying to protect my sciatic nerve. so i learned a lot about nerve flossing as well (apparently that's a thing with a weird name?), and also a bunch of hamstring strengthening exercises to go along with the occasional hamstring stretches (aka why i am on this video).
      bottom line, for sure see a doctor but i never knew that for years and thought i was just born with insane hamstrings until my PT told me, so i am passing on my info. best of luck to you!

    Hi Sarah. Thank you so much for the 20 minute series. I am loving them and I am really enjoying yoga.
    I am recovering from a golf injury I suffered 2 years ago. I have never been very flexible but the 2 year break from golf has made even less flexible. When I do the wide legged forward fold, I can't move my chest and heart more than a few inches further than I am sitting up. I feel a lot of tension (no pain) through my lower back and in my hamstrings. I wondered if this because of hamstrings or lower back inflexibility or both?

    • @sarahbethyoga
      @sarahbethyoga  8 років тому +3

      +Graham Arnott It could definitely be both. Tight hamstrings tend to pull the pelvis under causing more low back strain. Take a standing wide leg fold variation instead and you'll get a lot more out of it. With your feet 4-5 feet wide, and parallel or pigeon toed. Hinge from your hips into the fold. Use your hands to support you and even walk your hands forward to shift weight out of your heels and into the ball mounts of your feet to target the hamstrings (though heels will stay grounded). Basically you're just shifting gravity but making the posture much easier on your body. :)

    • @grahamarnott7924
      @grahamarnott7924 8 років тому

      +SarahBethYoga Thank you so much for the reply. I will carry on doing the wide legged fold to review my progress but when I follow your sessions, I will do as you suggest and do a standing wide legged fold. I know I am not get at this but I know you're right in that I will get much more benefit from it. Thank you SO much.

    Thanks Sarah, I have to try this routine. I want to add yoga in to my week to supplement my weight training, but my hamstrings are my tightest part. I actually get a horrible pain in the back of my knees when stretching my hams. I really hope this will help

    • @sarahbethyoga
      @sarahbethyoga  9 років тому +2

      talosdarkpaladin that sounds awful! Use a blanket or 2 for propping your hips and even your knees for a slight bend in these postures if they're uncomfortable. You'll get through it with regular practice & stretching, keep it up!

    • @talosdarkpaladin
      @talosdarkpaladin 9 років тому

      SarahBethYoga Yeah I suspect that the pain is tight tendons in the connection between my lower hams and my knees. However the only solution I can find is more stretching haha. I'm hoping using your functional Yoga routines will gently stretch the tendons as well as the muscle :)
      I'll let you know how it goes. I'll be using this one once a week and your level 1 flexibility once a week. Tomorrow is my first day - excited!

    I practiced yoga for about 3 years and still have very tight hamstrings. Even after years of practice every day, I cannot do "legs up the wall" without being far away from the wall on an angle. My question is this: If I start to do the hip flexor and hamstring routine, do I just keep my knees bent when I do leg stretches with a strap? Or do I keep my legs straight even though I cannot lift them very far off the floor? In the seated forward bend with legs spread and using a bolster, can I bend my knees? Or should I sit on blankets to allow my legs to straighten a little? I would like to get a little bit of stretch in my hamstrings and hip flexors so that my posture improves. After reading about tight psoas muscles, I am sure that this is what contributes to the strange posture I have. Thank you! I love the slower pace!

    Hi Sara! I've been doing this yin style video for almost 5 months now at least every week. I also became a member since last week! However, for the forward fold with stretched legs (poses at the end) my spine hurts so bad. I am able to relieve some tension but I still can't rest my face on my bolster. Do you have any recommendations for another video that might help me relieve some tension in my back? -xx-

    • @sarahbethyoga
      @sarahbethyoga  3 роки тому

      Try adding more props or even a chair to rest your head on so you can meet your body where it is in the pose. Once you're propped you'll find it much easier to relax over time. Ask this one in our member fb group and you'll get a lot of responses from our other members too that could be helpful 😃

    @SaraBethYoga Hi Sara.. thank you for these videos. I'm brand new to yoga and they've been great. 2 questions for ya: 1) For all these hamstring poses, am I supposed to flex both feet to activate the hamstrings? I noticed your feet are upright in a 90 degree angle, like there pressing against an imaginary wall. In my resting state, my feet protrude forward. Wouldn't flexing be considered "tension"? 2) Should I wrap my strap over the balls or middle of my feet? Thank you!

    • @sarahbethyoga
      @sarahbethyoga  6 років тому +1

      Yep! Flex your feet back in the hamstring stretches so your quads engage and in turn your hamstrings will relax and stretch deeper. If it helps you can bend your knees a little. As for your strap, try the balls of your feet, it may help you focus on flexing your feet back, otherwise whatever feels best/right for you!
