It truly speaks to the unending depth of B3313 when I have played it for countless hours and have still not encountered half of the things in this video.
My theory about the Clock/Compass Symbol is that it represents B3313 itself. The game is timeless in that not only is it not clear how time passes within the game, but also it's a modern romhack made for a classic game. It's also directionless as the entire Plexus is a huge maze that's easy to get lost in and it's not always clear where you should go. It's a handless, broken clock and compass, representing how lost and trapped you are within the game.
That compass rose symbol appeared on some of the 1995-era castle exteriors, too. IRL I would guess it was only placeholder, being geometric and vaguely ornamental. But the "strange symbol" pattern drives the mind wild. The accidental masonic look of the vanilla castle lobby makes the imagination run wild, and B3313 pushes it even further. Wasteofblood's "occult" interpretation of SM64 is oddly fun to explore.
If there's two cores, maybe the reason that the ai isn't freed when you break one, is that you actually need to break both of them. But the ai has taken over so much of the game at this point that there's little of the original game's code left, and it's so reliant on each of the cores that the game just immediately stops functioning upon breaking one. Meaning you can never put the game into a state where both cores are broken, meaning you can never truly free the ai.

1:22:34 All snow levels are coded to have swimmable water that drains your health even while on the surface. The aquarium is coded as a snow level, hence the white particles that come up while running around. Snowman's Land has this type of water as well as very cold water that acts like lava.
Stanley looks like faceless Mario because Mario is Player 1, and Stanley is the primary AI's Avatar. The Shadow Brother is a secondary layer to the AI, shaped like Luigi, but corrupted because Luigi was cut from the final game. Luigi being squashed in the crusher released the Shadow Brother, which is why it was there. It wasn't torturing Luigi. It came FROM Luigi's body. Also, 2 AI entities, 2 cores.
It was a reflex of those dark times. Our colective imaginarium desperate to be back to more simple era. When our dreams and hopes are intact. However, our wild and melancolical adulthood in post-modern world knows this is just a illusion and this game and all the Mario 64 myths appeal created by the community represents how sad and beautiful this liminar game is.
37:20 the area is based off the mario classified analog horror series, where mario drowns due to a mysterious controller disconnect. in a future episode, mario's lifeless body ends up there.
With regards to the incomplete areas: When it's one that kills you shortly after, I believe they're actually invisible Green Demons? I remember Joel (also from Vinesauce) playing the hack and making that connection while trying to brute force his way into the incomplete Hazy Maze Cave.
According to the wiki, yes, it's an invisible green demon that spawns You can explore the incomplete Hazy Maze Cave area if it gets stuck on some geometry, and most death planes are gone, so you can just fall to the cave
Interesting to keep in mind is that the Shadowy Figure actually uses Luigi's model, not Mario's. Considering how there's some occurrences like in the Motos Factory where the Shadowy Figure is present watching Luigi's body get crushed, there's most definitely some correlation between the two of them.
Awesome video! Very well researched, Wanted to see If you mentioned speedruns at all, I was actually the first recorded 460 run for v1.0.2, took on the run just so that a run WOULD appear on the leaderboards in the hopes someone would properly optimize a route. safe to say that plan worked :)
Watching this, I finally realized where the star requirements come from. Take the hack name B3313 You need 33 yellow stars to get through the stairway to nowhere You need 13 red stars to pass the door in the haunted castle grounds
Some of the enemy npc's dialogue states that Bowser went missing, and it kinda implies that the real Bowser is also trapped like the bros, and he probably has no idea what's happening either.
The castle secret at 1:55:08 references SM64DS, where on the file select screen there is a black box on that part of the castle, which was supposedly going to house a secret but was removed before release (level geometry still shows remnants of it being there, and its visible in some early footage)
This is nice. I really miss the days when Mario 64 and iceberg charts were at their peak. I've been saying this a lot but my lust for it has only increased ever since Super Mario Eclipse came out because that's exactly the kind of mod I've been wanting forever for 64 and I can't believe Sunshine got it first (and I love it). Something that has the expanssivness like b3313 but it's all added onto vanilla as a fully completed comprehensive game that feels like it could've been official release at the time. I'd want it to have the restored beta enemies, added characters, and milk that render96 has but with a bunch of more added subareas in already existing levels and fully new areas based on beta and mostly rumored content as well as a floors 4 and 2b. Other features I'd like to have are even more new enemies (and maybe npcs), even more unlockable characters with Luigi and Wario (Yoshi is the most obvious, he can utilize the unused eggs. A cool idea I have is Donkey Kong with his moveset inspired by his own in dk64. Then the most wild one I got is Geno as a near completion secret), a collectible ghoul medal, a fully functioning yellow switch that has an actual use and doesn't break anything; I figure a fire flower powerup and there can maybe be other features and a rainbow cap switch near the end; and then maaaybe day, evening, and night versions of most of the levels. Although it'd need to be on its own artificial timer to do that such as basing it on how many times you've entered areas since most importantly it should run on an actual n64. I could just make this myself but unfortunately I don't by any means have the time, knowledge, or resources to and am just left to fantasize out loud in random UA-cam comments.
Honestly, you’ve had one of my favorite personalities to watch. I know you’re probably gonna keep your channel focused on Mario games but I just want to say if you decided to just go off making whatever video essay/iceberg you wanted too watch it even if it wasn’t Mario related
I thought so too, @coolskeleton2383 it's really nice how you explained and made the character in game "act". Your content is very cured and really stands out.
1:58:46 I feel like the left eye on the Peach painting is a Mandela effect, because the first time I noticed it was bulging and so off center was in this hack, and I thought it was an edit to the painting specifically for this hack to give Peach a more schizophrenic appearance in accordance with the nature of this hack, but I was in shock when I discovered that it was the same in the base game
the addition of having unspoken gameplay sections for some of the entrys is really cool, definitly a great edtion to an iceberg, helps draw the viewer back in
21:26 The Parallel Lobby's music is based on the "Peach's Castel" lobby demo in the Nintendo Developer Demo for GameCube which showcased the graphical prowess of the console to aspiring developers. Another non-existant future element referenced in B3313
If I recall, the yellow Toad with the starry top has the same origin as the RTC day/night modes: A myth that a real time clock was ever in a retail version of SM64, with the castle's residents changing their "hats" for the evening. The sunset gradient on the lobby walls was mentioned, too, which inspired part of the (since removed) "lost-demo" video from Classified. The Toad in B3313's night vanilla lobby acts like a unique character who is almost self-aware, but ceases to exist during the daytime.
my guess for the Pirahna plant being a reskin while the others are custom is Pirahna probably took place during the time Chris started to get tired of making the hack after putting so much effort into Motos Factory (which was its own hack as a teaser for the level in b3313 btw)
I swear, b3313 is listening to me, yesterday i watched this iceberg and thought, it would be cool to explore the pipe playground, i launch b3313 and immediately stumble upon it
It's funny how this game never really puts me at ease and always on edge, yet I can't help but come back to it, even though i'm not into horror cause "ooo very scary". This game always draws me back into it... there's something about it that just makes me want to not stop. But I guess the AI itself knows how addicting this game gets when you read the signs and come to realize that... *You're still stuck in your own walls.*
act 1 getting triggered most likely happens because of the original game's demo feature being removed but still changing the act to 1 (because the demo would probably be broken on act 0) and the bowser act 1 feature maybe because chris developed it into the game (or another thing idk)
I tried to survive in Hazy Mazy Cave without dying or crashing. Using A special cheatcode. And here is my observations: The ground here is 50% can kill you, The yellow bob-omb thats says : "LEAVE NOW" Will crash the game. After short amount of time game will instantly crash itself.
Thankyou for your hardwork in create this amazing iceberg. I'm about to finish this game in livestream and start the process of get all the 460 stars in order to create a video series or documentary in yt about this game with more details and your iceberg will help me alot in my researches while playing ^^
I really like the videos. I hope I see more content from you. Maybe you could cover other creepy game stuff, maybe starting with Super Mario World hacks (like Coronation Day) since you've done B3313. There's other creepy hacks for SM64 too, although they're nowhere nearly as famous.. On another thought, I also really like the sequences with Mario. It's a nice little channel you got here
1:32:14 I think this is also a reference to a Simpleflips clip where he talks about one idea he had for an underground koopa society ua-cam.com/video/l8zw7zOUgks/v-deo.html
I fell the brothers in b3313 aren't malicious or good they simply get the stars if they can obtain them by helping they help if they need to take it by force they the destroy the town
had this on through multiple sleep paralysis episodes when I was trying to sleep, so I'd wake up and just see this video and all I could do was listen or watch until I could move again....
1:22:07 A reason for this happening because it is technically a snow level, which seen by the snow particles whenever Mario walks, which explains why Mario’s health drains more quickly.
This is the second time that I watch the supercut. NGL. Just because of some jumpscares of gameplays I saw and the events that happens, I can feel my heart like it wants to explode. B3313 is genuinely scary if you are someone like me, who didn't have horror shows, movies or games in their life. If you ask me, I have a love-hate relationship with B3313, I love the mysteries and almost endless maze. And I really do hate the horror events and the two Jumpscares in the game.
I would like to point out around 2:00 (unless they updated the game and fixed it) you can explore I would say 90% of the game with 0 red stars if you use the castle side door on the left. Tho a lot a rare of things will not trigger or be accessible till you achieve 1 red star such as hidden warps or warps in general for example. (nothing scary will happen whatsoever as well) Also They really try hard in forcing you into fighting Bowser for a red star as some levels are replaced with him for example if you wanted to head for the holy yellow switch palace its replaced with a bowser fight. I think another example is swimming into the hole under peaches castle bridge which leads into the area near the holy yellow switch then you decided to swim back out to castle grounds will take you into said Bowser fight.
1:33:43 No man's land is a term from WW1 of the land between trenches, usually one that had been hit with artillery to the point that the entire area is flattened with craters and made from mud. The level being called 'no mans land' could either mean it was a warzone or; most likely it is referencing the nature of the name being associated with dead land.
I think the bowser areas within peach's castle is mostly likely a reference to the original Paper Mario, where bowser latched on to Peach's castle and uprooted into the air.
This was an incredible watch all the way through!! I was kinda questioning the family guy moments-esc zoom in's though later in the video. I can't wait to see more content from ya, this was super good! (Also, I'm surprised no one has mentioned the hidden "Fucks" in B3313)
31:48 I played a little of this and I swear Prince Bob-Omb moved like a damn crack addict. It was near impossible to grab him and he’d charge forward almost like a chuckya would. Now that I see this, I’m slightly frightened about my copy. . .
41:14 So I wasn't going crazy when I noticed stars were removed, am I still going crazy when I swear I've noticed the system gave them back to me later after I got another red star and my health stopped auto regening? Also a trick/ tip I did to avoid the text showing up is jumping on the side of the switch which Mario will grab then pausing the game and fast travel back to the beta lobby.
I think the Wario Aparrition could've been included in the form of a painting. If you recognize the area, you're expecting Wario, so rounding a corner to see a giant portrait of him would be effective imo

what are you talking about peole never shut up about Mario 64 even before covid
@@breazy832 Good. Very good.
According to the wiki, yes, it's an invisible green demon that spawns
You can explore the incomplete Hazy Maze Cave area if it gets stuck on some geometry, and most death planes are gone, so you can just fall to the cave
I wish this video never ended. It was such an interesting joy to watch
I’ve been watching it everyday

The Mr. I basement was definitely a reference to the rom hack Please Come to the Castle
"It's eternity in there"
based emesis blue reference
Damn, I thought that was a Stephen King, The Jaunt reference.
Interesting to keep in mind is that the Shadowy Figure actually uses Luigi's model, not Mario's. Considering how there's some occurrences like in the Motos Factory where the Shadowy Figure is present watching Luigi's body get crushed, there's most definitely some correlation between the two of them.
I thought it may be Luigi’s ghost
@@Nex1001-1yeah I facepalmed when he went over that. “Why would it torture Luigi” nah fam it’s Luigi’s ghost haunting the player/AI for torturing him.
Awesome video! Very well researched,
Wanted to see If you mentioned speedruns at all, I was actually the first recorded 460 run for v1.0.2, took on the run just so that a run WOULD appear on the leaderboards in the hopes someone would properly optimize a route. safe to say that plan worked :)
Oh hey, I remember seeing your speedrun in my recommendations! I didn't see it complete but when I have the chance I'll see it fill :D
Man, crazy that they created a self aware A.I on windows 95. Iwata really was ahead of his time.
Watching this, I finally realized where the star requirements come from. Take the hack name B3313
You need 33 yellow stars to get through the stairway to nowhere
You need 13 red stars to pass the door in the haunted castle grounds
Another possible reason is 3+3 is 6 and 1+3 is 4 making b64 (beta 64)
Some of the enemy npc's dialogue states that Bowser went missing, and it kinda implies that the real Bowser is also trapped like the bros, and he probably has no idea what's happening either.
The castle secret at 1:55:08 references SM64DS, where on the file select screen there is a black box on that part of the castle, which was supposedly going to house a secret but was removed before release (level geometry still shows remnants of it being there, and its visible in some early footage)
I just wanted to add context since that part of the video did not have any narration explaining it
This is nice.
@rayman2902 I have a good amount of other b3313 related video ideas but at some point IL probably talk about other games.
@@coolskeleton2383 I'm so glad you're making more b33 videos, those things basically keep me alive

I thought so too, @coolskeleton2383 it's really nice how you explained and made the character in game "act". Your content is very cured and really stands out.

Glad to have made it to the penultimate video of this multi-month endeavor! Congrats, and fantastic work!
Penultimate means second-to-last
1:58:46 I feel like the left eye on the Peach painting is a Mandela effect, because the first time I noticed it was bulging and so off center was in this hack, and I thought it was an edit to the painting specifically for this hack to give Peach a more schizophrenic appearance in accordance with the nature of this hack, but I was in shock when I discovered that it was the same in the base game
the addition of having unspoken gameplay sections for some of the entrys is really cool, definitly a great edtion to an iceberg, helps draw the viewer back in
I love how the last entry for the SM64 iceberg is the first entry for this one.
The best iceberg of sm64 to me, amazing work!
21:26 The Parallel Lobby's music is based on the "Peach's Castel" lobby demo in the Nintendo Developer Demo for GameCube which showcased the graphical prowess of the console to aspiring developers. Another non-existant future element referenced in B3313
You did really well on this, I was excited for the release of each installment. GGs
I love this video, thank you man. I feel like a kid again just digging into a game so strange and just suspending my disbelief for a second
1:12:35 Honestly, when put that way, that sounds like it could definitely be Bowser's room
my guess for the Pirahna plant being a reskin while the others are custom is Pirahna probably took place during the time Chris started to get tired of making the hack after putting so much effort into Motos Factory (which was its own hack as a teaser for the level in b3313 btw)
great work, especially during college, keeping a schedule is hard and you consistently kept me entertained this year
I've been loving this little project of yours. I hope you keep up the quality
great iceberg! the first video inspired me to play the hack myself. I'll be rewatching this for sure
This was a really fun Iceberg! B3313 easily has to be the most interesting Mario 64 Rom hack out there.
28:04 My coworker losing his mind dawg
20:27 the way i see it is that in this arg universe, the ai generation was first and the developers of future mario games took inspiration from it
Watched this series from the first to last video and am really excited to see where this channel goes
act 1 getting triggered most likely happens because of the original game's demo feature being removed but still changing the act to 1 (because the demo would probably be broken on act 0) and the bowser act 1 feature maybe because chris developed it into the game (or another thing idk)
I love these videos, props to you! B3313 was one of a kind to experience
THIS IS NOT AN ICEBERG VIDEO ITS A GAME Explanation video with a coat of iceberg paint.
Thankyou for your hardwork in create this amazing iceberg. I'm about to finish this game in livestream and start the process of get all the 460 stars in order to create a video series or documentary in yt about this game with more details and your iceberg will help me alot in my researches while playing ^^
this video is so specific in appealing to a specific niche

I like to think Stanley made Mario and Luigi sentient to let out his rage: kinda a 'I have no mouth' situation
I don’t usally comment on videos but I have may fallen to asleep to the b3313 iceberg videos here. So keep up the great work!
I legit love this too much like, the effort put in is impressive to say the least
It's a nice little channel you got here
I actually learned how to wall jump in sm64 via b3313

i've been intrigued by B3313 by a long time. props to you for covering it all! (or most of it at least lol)
I fell the brothers in b3313 aren't malicious or good they simply get the stars if they can obtain them by helping they help if they need to take it by force they the destroy the town

would love to see someone make a randomizer version of B3313, surprised nobody has thought of it
I guess it would be nice but the game is already so random, it would be chaos^2

A reason for this happening because it is technically a snow level, which seen by the snow particles whenever Mario walks, which explains why Mario’s health drains more quickly.
B3313 is legitimately one of the most disturbing games I’ve ever played
Its good. Play more games
@PalozachSSJ
I mean watch a game not long ago where a kid literally got drowned, if think this are disturbing then you not seen much.
The algorithm has blessed me with an underrated video and creator :) it’s a good day
B3313 feels like if mario 64 had 1 more year of devlopment
This is the second time that I watch the supercut.
NGL. Just because of some jumpscares of gameplays I saw and the events that happens, I can feel my heart like it wants to explode. B3313 is genuinely scary if you are someone like me, who didn't have horror shows, movies or games in their life.
If you ask me, I have a love-hate relationship with B3313, I love the mysteries and almost endless maze. And I really do hate the horror events and the two Jumpscares in the game.
LET'S GOOOOOO IT'S FINALLY HERE!!!
I love this iceberg, I hope you're gonna do more stuff like this :3
you are gay
1:33:43
No man's land is a term from WW1 of the land between trenches, usually one that had been hit with artillery to the point that the entire area is flattened with craters and made from mud.
Crazy, how the bottom entry of the mario 64 iceberg is the top of this one. Very effective concept.
This was an incredible watch all the way through!! I was kinda questioning the family guy moments-esc zoom in's though later in the video.
I can't wait to see more content from ya, this was super good! (Also, I'm surprised no one has mentioned the hidden "Fucks" in B3313)

I just watched the whole thing. This is the best video I’ve watched all week I tip my Luigi hat to you because this is peak.
41:14 So I wasn't going crazy when I noticed stars were removed, am I still going crazy when I swear I've noticed the system gave them back to me later after I got another red star and my health stopped auto regening? Also a trick/ tip I did to avoid the text showing up is jumping on the side of the switch which Mario will grab then pausing the game and fast travel back to the beta lobby.
the fact that this video is in 480p is absolute fire
finally, the peak 1994-1996 iceberg.
just a few years away from 1999
I really home the B3313 concept spreads to more games. I'd like to play a Zelda B3313
I love that you fixed the audio
A nice compilation of the iceberg of b3313
I think the Wario Aparrition could've been included in the form of a painting. If you recognize the area, you're expecting Wario, so rounding a corner to see a giant portrait of him would be effective imo
the dev said he didn't like the apparition. which, fair.
I only just started playing B3313 and this iceberg/video is amazing! Perhaps you could make a more in-depth video on the plots, events, horrors, etc.
