Why not put the filter half anch or so higher up the machine? That way most of us could use a decent sized tray to catch the water & mess without so much spillage!
Coz its where the water drains through, so it needs to be below the level of the water in the machine (I'm assuming as a total novice)
I am following these instructions and YES INDEED having a hell of a time flooding my own house unable to direct the water anywhere… oh boy. Oh machine manufacturers why have you DONE this.
old washer had a hose attachment to drain the water that way can feed the hose into the container first. Hotpoint nah we will just dump it on the floor. and have next to zero space to slide even a narrow tray under the machine. Heres an idea if you wanna stick to this design, have a tray built into the frame that can be pulled out and removed to empty, then slide back into place when done.
I pulled my machine out completely from under the counter, tipped it at an angle against my counter and then put a washing up bowl below it to collect the water. Done it 3 times now (hadn’t seen this vid about cleaning it out) and no spills at all!
This is 2 years later but.
you could always make a stable-stand to put the washing machine itself higher on it, so you could use a non-shallow tray to drain the water.
Tip: make sure you empty the washjng machine first and get rid of excess water still in the drum with a mug or something. It'll be a hell of a lot faster.
Your access hatch and plug come undone a lot easier than mine!! But a great vid thanks!
It was a colour catcher sheet which was blocking mine! Haha Thank you so much for this vid, I live alone in my apartment so being able to do this by myself took a lot of pressure off! ☺️
This was super useful. Short, straight to the point and SUPER HELPFUL!!!!! YOU just saved me some MONEY!
Total superstar! Thank you so much - it was a thin sponge I use in my camping stove and a hair tie that had got stuck in there - you saved me calling my landlord and giving her a headache to get it fixed - Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!
Had an F05 error code on our washing machine and luckily I watched this video which saved a whole lot of time.
Very helpful video. An old-style £1 coin was stuck in mine. Must have been there a while, but been dislodged into a position where caused a problem. Now cleared and 8-year-old washing machine back up an running. Thanks.
10/10 well made presented and to the point - 2min quick fix vids bravo
Thank you very much very helpful. I had te F05 error on my hotpoint machine. Fixed mine by following your instructions. Found lots of hair and some paper and fabric bits rolled together in the filter pump. Had a lot of water to drain thank you for the warning. Just as well I didn't have to call out the engineer it would have been the 3rd time in 2 months.
Thank you for the tip about checking inside the filter place. Saved us from calling the repairman. Our machine is not this brand but it was handy
Thanks for your valued suggestion...
You're helping other, someone will help you back on repel effect - so keep helping
Just un-bunged my washing machine - had a "wipe" jammed in the pump. Thanks for the great video. Definitely sticking to Hotpoint on my next machine as they seem easy to sort if they go wrong. Thanks.
Great video. Simple to follow and saved me money on an expensive callout. I actually €2 up now, as that was what was blocking my pump! 😂
Thanks for this video. Took my from cover off, drained the machine, and found a lace inside the pump. Removed, and its fixed!!!! Thanks you
Thank you Gareth for the positive feedback....we are glad our video helped!! Kind regards Jess
Thank you my friend, just fixed it. Good luck from Spain
My machine was flashing the f5 error. I watched this video, and now it's back running perfectly again. Thank you 😊
Thankyou so much for this video managed to fix our washing machine on my own and now I feel like I'm THE MAN
This sorted my washing machine out! Thank you so much for the clear info
This was so useful - i was going to buy a new machine and decided to google F5 and found something very strange blocking the filter - I agree a saucepan full of water which I caught on a tray but spilt a lot of it but no complaints from me - this video saved me £500 so thank you!!
Just fished a large sweet wrapper out of mine! Be warned though, draining can take ages and it gets very messy, even with the pan. Thanks for the video 😃
Very helpful. Thank you, saved me alot of messing about!
Thanks so much, that fixed mine! We had to waddle it over to the back door and point it out, though, there was a lot of water! Our prize was two plastic toothpicks, half a hair clip and a load of insole from my husband's slippers, which were being washed when the disaster happened.
Amazing what things you find in the filter. Glad you got the issue resolved.

Worked For my Mums machine!! Only problem we had machine was still full of water! Luckily for us we had a Karcher machine to pump the water out this took a lot of attempts to clear all the water. Saw the impeller was blocked cleared that and it’s fine now,Thanks do much for this video 👍
Extremely helpful video! Thanks a lot! Have no idea how that happened but the reason why our washing machine stopped working and wash flashin F5 was because my underwear got stuck in the filter!! It ended up in bin sadly but at least we fixed it ourselves.
This video was extremely helpful, thank you!!! I was surprised that I had 2 small pieces of clothing that got stuck in the filter. 😮
That was so helpful! Thanks
Some people mention a lot of water. What I did was switch off the machine when the error code displayed and then switch back on. Then I chose “Spin and pump out”, which ran its cycle. There was about two egg cups of water left in the pump…and a plastic tag!! It worked for me so good luck. Great video by the way, which saved me a lot of time.
thats great if the pump can still pump, however in my case, and probably many others, that doesnt work as the pump isnt pumping anything.
@@jasonlib1996 I do appreciate that. The intention of my comment was to suggest trying what I did. If it works, fantastic! If it doesn’t work then there will be lots of water. If people don’t try my suggestion, there will be lots of water. So it’s worth trying!
Thank you so much it worked a treat
Thank you. Washing machine now working. Hairband caught in pump!
Thank you for this video you’ve just saved my washing machine! 🤣 some how a plastic bag was stuck inside !!
Really helpful video - Thanks for posting.
Lollipop stick was the issue. Thanks kids!!
Ahaa so that’s the place where all my socks went... I thought the washing machine was stealing them and then selling them on Amazon after each wash...
Thanks for the video, great stuff!
This is absolutely fantastic thank you so much for making this video I'm going to try now!!!
it worked!! Thank you so much. I made the mistake of washing a suede bag that was damaged in a house fire and never put it in a wolf bag which was a big mistake on the tassel on it fell apart during the war cycle and the next washing I put on clothes this error codes that you described. I had to empty it about six or seven times used the boshe oven slide-out baking tray which was perfect to slip in underneath. I suspected it was one of the tassels and when I opened it up there it was, use my phone torch and a pair of tweezers to pull it out and then switch the machine on to 10 minutes spin to empty the contents.. so I use shallow tray with two towels underneath, one smaller one going in under the machine. And I also used a washing up basin to empty the tree into which I did about seven times.
Thanks for the video, and for the laugh at seeing the bright and shiny screw and coins pop out, which almost looked like they were 'planted' there to simulate what could be found in the pre-chamber :-)
Really helpful and saved me some money not having to call someone out to fix my washer. But my kitchen floor is ruined from all the water. I echo the other comments saying the positioning of the filter is a definite design flaw. I get that it needs to be at the bottom because of physics(!) but even 5mm higher up would mean you could get a flat tray under it. All the towels in the world didn't save my floor from a washing machine full of water no matter how much I carefully caught on flat trays
Than you. I found the video very helpful and could fix my filter.
Brilliant, worked well. Than you.
Thank you so much for your advice ,it worked a piece of tape was blocking it. To think I was going to buy a new washing machine!
Thank you so much for the tip for my washing machine as they say jobs a good one
Thank you so much. Really, this video helped me.
Hi Yousif
Glad this video has helped!
Regards, Hotpoint Service
Thx you for helping
Thanks very much!
Thanks, my machine was full of water so I used a pond vacuum and sucked water as I slowly opened the filter, didn't spill a drop.
Thank you, thank you, thank you 🙏
Thank you! Very clear instructions, followed step by step and sorted my washing machine out! (not gonna lie though, I filled 2 buckets worth of waste water, using a shallow tray, took forever... but it worked!)
thanks! So helpful
It worked thanks
Thanks man 👍👍👍
Just checked my filter after watching this video, and it was clogged up I gave it a good clean. Than you
Carol Jones don’t get sharp washing machine and dryer
@@annekalunn99 Thanks for the advice, I won't. I am due to buy a new washing machine soon my current washing machines over 15 years old and although I still get a fairly good clean from it, it's show it's age I will stick with it for a little bit longer for now.
Just found a ‘colour catcher' in mine. Thank you so much.
Glad this video helped you solve your issue :)

Very messy but sorted. Thank you.
Saved me £ 300 for new machine. Dead simple, thanx
Hi Randy
Brilliant news! Glad this video as helped.
Hotpoint Service
thank you!
My filter is completely clean.. no blockages yet I have f05
No kinks in the pipe either!
Great
It would be great if you could put a video on here regarding washer dryer normal noises during drying.
I have a Hotpoint Aquarius WMA50 and can’t find the filter. I’m pretty sure it’s why my clothing doesn’t smell clean after I’ve washed (and dried) the clothes. I’ve opened the panel at the front and the one at the back but it’s not obvious.
90% of the time F05 is this.
However I've just cleared one that was a clog in the output side of the pump that required propping the front of the machine up, then removing the pump and taking off the output hose.
Not as difficult as it sounds, just 2 screws on the front to drop the pump down and then pliers to unclip the output hose.
Also instead of using a tray, I use a wet and dry vacuum cleaner (Numatic Charles) in wet mode to suck the stream of water as I gradually unscrew the filter.
You sir, are a life saver. Our filter was clear but the pipe was blocked. Followed your instructions and managed to pull a piece of plastic out from the pipe. Put it all back together and were up and running. Thank You kindly.
It's great, it works. My friend is crushing on this guy so much!!
Wtf😂😂
How many months we should check the filter regularly? For example a family of four members.
Thx for the vid! I did as followed. But now our Wash Machine is not turning on
Thanks alot! Problem solved
Any tips on how to get the filter out? My entire achievement so far is a minor bog in the kitchen, but the filter won't twist more than a 100 degrees.
I took off the pump, gave it a good clean, checked it. Put it back together, the pump works fine (it pumps the water out with ease) but for some reason I am still getting a pump error code. Its like the machine doesn't know when its finished pumping the water out and to move onto the next stage. Any suggestions? Ive put washing machine cleaner through the machine. EDIT all lights started flashing which is a main PCB failure. I took the PCB out and need to replace 2 capacitors that have blown.
the bloody filter is so far down the machine, who made that design choice? Its hard for old people like myself
Thanks
What if the washing machine is completely filled with water?
The jobs a goodun 😃
Filter was clean
I used a rolled up bath towel to absorb the water the tray was not flush and let the water out slowly turning the towel .
Replaced and went to the Ubend under the sink unscrewing both sides with a water catcher underneath to.reveal a long screw that I removed and put the Ubend back in position tight.
Mine doesn’t have a filter in the front I’ve looked I don’t know where the filter is it’s a hot point wm52
Hi! I own a Hotpoint Ariston ARGL105. For some reasons the pump input voltage is 145 volt instead of 220 volts. Can you help me to find out why? Thx
Hi Renard
It seems your model isn't a UK one (you have an EU model), and we don't work LIVE here in the UK. So we can't offer any technical advice.
We recommend however, that you speak to one of our friendly service advisers on 03448 224 224 as we can send out a Hotpoint Service Engineer to get it looked at professionally.
Thank you
Ryan
Tried that and its did not work i even took out the whole pump filter to clean it but still having the same problem as some water comes out and then everything stops i have to switch it on and off until the whole water comes out
Appreciate the video! Washing machine stopped working this morning and found a pair of girlfriends knickers in the filter!
Brilliant - hair bobble stuck in mine - flooded the kitchen, fixed it and still no joy. Flood the kitchen again - piece of wood stuck in it! All good now though.
Hi DinoCatAli
Glad to hear you got the blockage sorted in the end!
very helpful video. 100 percent recommend
Anyone know how to remove/check the rear waste hose?
How you get behind that impeller/propeller whatever it was…that’s where my item is, cos it was half through it and I had to rip it to get it half out!!!!
Hi what if you checked the filter and it's ok and you checked the waste trap under your sink isn't blocked but your machine is still not draining the water and remaining on 1minute timer for ages. My machine is only 2 years old so it's a hassle. Any advice would be helpful. When i open the filter loads of water comes out at least half a litre.or just over.Cheers

Did you fix this? Happens to mine it's only few years old
Did you get this fixed as mine is having the same problem.
Nothing in the filter yet the less 3year old hot point washer pump won't drain. Now I can't open the door and get the clothes out. Any help?
Would you please explain why this fault occurs & what needs to be done to correct it 🔽🔽🔽
On the Fast Wash 60° program cycle only, my machine takes in water then pumps it out in the first minute of the cycle taking the detergent with it.
It does NOT do this on any of the other programs
Can I just cut of the end of draining hose as it far to long
In lg washing machines l can't select items that don't turn
My Hotpoint does not have that little drain on the front? It's a Hotpoint Aquarius
my machine is full of water and the filter wont budge. its new so idk if its just done up tightly or if its stuck? any advice on how to get my clothes out pls 😭
I done this cleaned it all out and now it’s not filling the washing machine with water any idea ?
opened mine and the piece is clean, what else can I do, machine is not spinning
*More in depth than the other chump i just watched*
life saver!!! and cute! stay blessed
It was a small plastic label in the filter
Hotpoint washing machine 9kg graphite ultima s-line rpd 9467j model how to change drain hose ligin
Not happy! Despite using a shallow tray and a towel underneath, water spills out on to the carpet and under the bottom of the machine. This is mainly because the filter front lip is too shallow!
I cleaned out the filter and the propeller and there is still water coming into the drumwhen it is not on.
This design is great for anyone who doesn't have thier washing machine indoors like a normal person and wants crap water flooding thier floors and getting under the machine to create a breeding ground for mold and wants to balance conveniently sized trays of water like a circus performer! Also if you don't have back pain because nobody has to ever worry about that. Thank you for this brilliant efficiency hotpoint!
My problem is that the impellers themselves constantly get stuck with hair (both Human and Pet). Any solution to resolving that? The pump filter itself is clean, it's the impellers that are clogged up with knotted hair.
I have a hotpoint BHWD129UK/1 washer dryer the machine was not pumping out properly, the filter was full of coins and hair clips which were removed as was the feed pipe from the drum to the filter as a coin to big for the slot into the filter could not be removed without hose disconnection. The machine now pumps out quite happily but will not fill with water or turn the drum (like it’s stuck on pump out). I have replaced the pressure switch but still the same fault. No fault codes evident. I filled the machine with 2litres of water after replacing the pressure switch and then pumped out to reset the switch still the same. I checked for continuity through all three water valve coils on the single water inlet and all found with continuity. The motor is brushless, something is holding this out and strange fault as it’s not the original. The cost of calling someone out is probably not going to be cost effective plus the other parts that may be required but am I doing something stupid or is there anything I can try before I scrap this approx 5 year old machine.
Hi David
Could you give us a call on 03448 224 224 We can diagnose what the potential issue is, then we can decide whether or not an engineer would be needed.

I’ve tried turning the filter for it to drain but no water comes out and it’s unable to be unscrewed fully, does this mean something is stopping it from turning?
Try using pliers . Mine was really stiff.Probably because never opened before. Turn anti clockwise to open it
I have a Hotpoint top loader
What they don`t tell ya,is no matter what type of tray, the water will run down under the bottom of your machine onto the floor.we have to put towels all round and it still floods every where,
I will be doing what I describe below. as I am sick of my floor getting flooded,
Anyone who is DIY minded ,could follow procedures below, to convert the drainage,
And watch a video how to remove the front panel,
Pull plug out of wall, first . proceed if you are competent & knowledgeable working safely around electric components.
Remove the front panel, usually behind that is the frame , at the bottom there is usually a cut out bit where on other models would have a different pump housing that had a small black ,drainage hose, connected,
If you do not have the cut out bit then just drill a hole in the frame and fit a grommet to protect the hose getting cut.
Then drill another hole on the front panel as well but make sure holes line up .then fit a grommet so the pipe will not cut on that drilled metal hole.
Change the pump housing with one that has the connection to fit a black rubber hose to it.but make sure it is compatible to the pump motor housing other half lip ,they will push twist and lock together, but in some cases you can get one with the same pump motor already attached, from a different model, just make sure the voltage / amp and watts are the same ,
Now drill another small hole through the front panel further along heading toward the cap, where you would normally unscrew to drain the machine,
Now fit a little clip that opens up at the back of the hole to lock in place, but at the front has a little clip that holds the hose and stops it dangling ,
Now feed the pipe from the pump housing through the two grommets first through the hole in the frame then through the front cover then attach to the clip,
You will see the tube going along the front on the out side along the bottom, but no more flooded floor.
If you have a kick plate no need to drill a hole in the front panel just hide it behind the kick plate.
I better say proceed at your own risk ,but worth it if done correctly,
Handy video. @hotpoint here's a free idea: why not make the access panel have the right format to BE the a tray for draining? I tried doing this with mine but it doesn't hold enough water to help much. A few small design changes and it would be a least better than a cookie tray. As it is you missed one step: get the machine out and on bricks before you start to drain so you can get a reasonable sized tray under there!
Hi. My aqualtis washing machine doesn't do the first process of washing. It takes the detergents ,water and nothing happens, doesn't turn for about 1 hour . After this time it start turning round and finishes the washing but obviously the clothes aren't wash good.
What it can be the problem?
Thank you
Hi
It sounds like only the rinse cycle (at the end of a programme) spins. Have you tried different programmes? different spin speeds? different temperature settings?
If the problem still persists give us a call on 03448 224224 and we can diagnose this more for you.
