What an excellent presentation. So many videos (specially the American ones!) spend an hour telling you fifteen minutes worth of information. This was precise, to the point, educational and above all, useful in saving us lots of call out charges, dirty clothes etc (as of course our machine stopped over the christmas break). Well done, a lot of presenters could usefully study your style. Also it was excellent that you did not stop at unblocking the filter, but you carried on and did other useful work removing calcium and explaining many bits that users do not usually see. This is the difference between a professional who does the job thoroughly and properly, and the fly-by-night who charges £80 for a call out, removes a coin, pockets the money and disappears. Well done. I was a boiler service engineer with a similar work ethic. I would do the 'extra' bits of work to make it run better and longer, and customers would always thank me and recommend me to others. That is the way to run a successful business.

Thank you very much for the video. I have fixed my machine following your video. Thanks and Blessings.
But that is not all, I want to compliment you on the video - it is so well made, each step articulately explained and videographed that different kinds of issues can all be covered in one video. In my case, the debri was stuck above the floater ball and your lucid, poised and accurate explanation gave me the knowledge and courage (yes, courage!) to open it up and give it a shot. You definitely deserve more than a beer from me! Especially in these times when no service mechanic can visit.

Absolutely brilliant! My engineer is on holiday, so I spent 2 days trying to solve the problem myself (with the help of other video sites). On the verge of giving up, then I found this detailed video. Went back to the machine and solved the problem in just a few minutes (a jammed 2p coin in the hose connecting the drum with the pump unit). Thank you very much!

My darling two year old kept putting tiny lego down the detergent dispenser pipe and i knew in time it would cause problems. Last night it stopped draining and the plumber wasnt replying to my requests for help.
Our filter was jammed and wouldnt open so had to go full on in.
I followed your instructions and 90 mins later I had fixed the machine by myself!
The hardest parts were getting the wires detatched from the filter and the tube clip ring things were tricky to get off and on again but I did it!! So proud of myself.

Thank you for your very detailed and expert contribution! Cheers! Additional tip / my 2 cents: a) Always use gloves when manipulating parts, plugs, hoses, etc. inside a metal cabin, otherwise you can easily injure yourself on sharp edges of the housing. b) Do not wear a ring during any of these repairs; it could be damaged \ scratched and you could be injured if the ring gets stuck anywhere.

Very helpful and thorough information, nicely presented. Despite high calcium in the local water supply, the filter unit had never been cleaned before, and got stuck. Totally removing the unit and using a calcium dissolver did the trick, together with a few not too strong taps on the unit. Most calcium in the "ball" case. As the motor and propeller look intact, have still to check the heater and the grounding for the occasional short-circuiting. Even to the point the info was worth two rounds of beer. Cheers :))

Obviously this man knows his stuff…but just to add, the ‘last gasp’ before doing this, is to note that the filter cap is a proper screw thread, and will fully undo only after about 2 or 3 turns anti-clockwise. The first tiny bit will usually unscrew even if it then goes on to jam. Rag it a bit, right and left, not using much force, and the coin etc might well kick out of the way, circumventing the sensible and correct steps given here. Also, use a bit of coathanger wire, to feel along the pipe, curve the wire and just see if there’s another coin etc hanging around just out of sight - mine had one! The 2p coin in the UK is PERFECT for acting like a ‘butterfly valve’ once in the pipe. All you need to know about that is, once a flow of water starts, THEN it blocks! Flow of water stops or lessens, the coin ‘flap’ drops down again. 10p will probably do this too, I wish the entry/exit pipe had a couple of grille-fins to stop this. Anyway, if the yanking the filter cap left and right doesn’t work, and don’t use plier-type force, then this man’s advice is the way to go. Thanks for the video, it made me work harder to avoid doing it! Take care all, be well, and be calm. It will work out in the end, if we apply brains and effort, whatever it is.

How bloody typical for me; my pump filter Cover, is a smooth round flat disc, completely flush with the panel, and shows no way of removing it, unless I force a chisel into the tightest of gaps.
The so-called 'hand book' shows a nice picture, with a arrow, pointing to it. the end.

Great video buddy thanks , I had an eventful day after watching this video haha i haven't cleaned my filter for about a year and it was totally jammed found a 5p coin a 1euro coin a kirby grip and 2 screws, behind all that was a tightly packed ball of hair, all the different colours my partner and 2 daughters have been dying their hair over the last year 😅
got it all cleaned out and put back together, putting the hose back on using mole grips for the clamp, it slipped and a tiny bit of metal shit into the cornea of my eye, so a wee trip to local A&E to get out it, doc says i done the right thing getting it sorted right away alot of people wait a couple of days and its harder to dig out by then, so I'll maybe wear some safety specs next time lol....

Can someone tell me how such large coin could end up in there in the first place. Also I found a rounded thin 15 cm metal in there. I have no idea how could something like that end up there. Is there any chance whatsoever that some piece of actual washing machine could break off and end up there?

Doh! I recently received an Electrolux Washer/Dryer combo unit, and this was (I believe) the root problem it had. Only thing is, is I ended up brute forcing the filter cap off. Luckily I didn't break it, but I found two underwires lodged in - and possibly through - the drain pump itself.
Without the drain pump attached, I have full control over the electrics/cycle selection of the unit, but once I connect it up, it powers on BUT automatically spins the drain pump and I have next to no control over the selection. Moreover if I attach any old drain pump, the same aforementioned issue arises. I wonder...could a brand new compatible drain pump be the resolution?

My Siemens iQ500 wm14q470nl/12 is giving the E18 during centrifugation step. I followed your advices and the trap was clear. I service the pump and it worked the first time. Then again E18. I proceeded to check the black hose (the tick one) but it was secured with an one ear oetiker clamp which I removed. The hose was clean. This washing machine does not have the ball you showed in the video but rather a chamber with sort of rubber ball. I searched for objects obstructing but I didn't find anything. The only think that I noticed is that the "rubber ball" has an opening at the bottom kind of partially splitting the rubber ball in half. Is this normal? Or could this be the reason of the E18?
Any other possible reason for the E18?
Note:. I have a picture but I cannot attach it her.

😊😃 Thanks a lot! Our machine is an integrated Siemens Si14•44 , and I didn’t even need to move it. Just removed a front panel for access to the inlet of the pump filter. One coin, one pin of wood and a sticker! (believe it or not, how the h... did it get there?) 🤬 kids!
Less than one hour work, total from fault message to finish (incl. watching the entire film) in the evening saved me for about 3000 norwegian kroner (about 300 US$)! That would (at least) be the charge of a seviceman here in Norway, 1 hour service + driving....

first: thank you for the super tutorial. I have cleaned everything as described. From the pump to the drain hose everything super-clean - yet comes about every 3rd wash the error E03. Can there be other causes? Can possibly be the pump itself defective? THANK YOU for an answer!

I appreciate your information. But I am extremely pissed off that designers clearly know of this issue. Its 2022!!! Ffs- nobody should be dealing with this issue but for an industry clearly allowing this to continue. Anyone called sn engineer lately for this problem. How much did it cost and how many of you just bought a new machine.?? This is a typical issue. There is no way this should be a thing. There are clearly ways to design these components so that coins etc do not get jammed and stop a simple part from being unscrewed. I mean why is there even a cross piece that jams the coins. Come on people please fight back !!

This video was a great help, thank you! Just one note: On washing machines with automatic dispenser system (iDOS) the tray shall be removed to prevent the fluids flowing out through the machine to the back. Don't repeat my mistake :)

Great vid, very clear, and I emptied about 7 coins, 5 collar plastic strengtheners and a variety of other junk out my filter. Perhaps I should check it more than once every 12 years when the machine won't drain? Great stuff, much appreciated that you've posted this.

Brilliantly clear. Gave me confidence to do it myself and got 22 pence and 7 collar stiffness, Kirby grip and a huge amount of funk out of it. Also saved a Bosch engineer call out and very empowered now. Thank you.

I've been having real issues with my machine. I have never technically tinkered with a washing machine before, following this crystal clear video I've removed my pump, found a few tiny things that bipassed the filter so it was inside the pump and caused it to fail. Tested and now fixed. You saved me £90 call out and a new pump. I wouldn't have dared in the past. Top work. Thank you very much.

Excellent video. Don't want to be picky but it's Calcium Carbonate or Limescale which only occurs where the tap water passes over limestone such as the Peak District of Derbyshire. In soft water areas this shouldn't be a problem.

Thank you for this great video. My Hotpoint seems to have taken on the role of a wishing well in my family, I found 4 coins, a 3mm twist drill and 2 tooth picks lurking in the filter and pipes. Unfortunately the impeller had broken off the motor shaft. So a new pump was called for. I guess I could have put the impeller back with epoxy glue but at about £20 for a new pump it seemed best to replace it as the machine is 10 years old.

But the next time I use it I saw again the same code E03. I changed the water pump.. Next time I use it I saw again the same code E03.. What else can I do to fix it?

Nice, if you clean pump [at video 10:20], is possible make it back for operation? This region of pump should be water tight, or it is normally flooded while pump operates?

Great video! I have a question. I removed the filter and there was a sock in it. Then I wanted to clean the filter but I forgot that the wire also has to go back in it. So I aciddentaly made it wet. I dried it of and i put on the heater. Can I put the filter back in? Or will the washer crash?
