Thanks for video. Saved me a few hundred bucks for a service call. Your video taught me to remove the pump motor and check the impeller for blockages. No blockages but discovered the impeller had broken off. I was then able to order only the pump motor from Amazon for $43.00 whereas other part sites only sold the entire pump and motor assembly for $146.00. Thanks again. Cheers.

Nice! My pump strainer was completely full of pocket change, driver bits, USB thumb drives, screws, etc - and a rubber tile spacer had gotten by and brought my washer to it's knees. This worked beautifully - Thanks!

Thanks for posting this video. I didn't end up having any clogged items in the pump, but the valve was stuck inside which proved to be the problem. It works now, but I'll likely have to order a new part if the valve sticks again. There was also some slime build up that I cleaned while I was there.

    Hi,
Thanks, I have the hoover Performa ECO AB130, and the pump starts growling when on number five setting ( rinse and cold water fill ), sounds like a dry bearing, does the pump run in reverse when emptying ?,
nice video, but it would have been better if you had shown it being removed from the machine.
    Thanks.
    Rick.

Greetings. Great detailed video!! I loved it. I have a front load Samsung with pump in back. Machine works for the most part but won't go into spin cycle from rinse.Pump seems to work for draining water from inside of the tub but does NOT get water underneath the inside of tub. I can hear it sloshing around when I manually spin the tub after machine stops. I've taken the pump apart twice and cleaned a little lint that was inside. Also checked and cleaned sump hose. No change in the operation. Is the leftover water normal to be there or is this pump malfunctioning somehow? Much Appreciated!! Daniel

Thanks for your video, a fresh approach to this problem. Most just advise that we replace pump without 1st having checked to see if that part is still working It happened to me where I bought a new pump on ebay and after a week long wait, it turns out that the previous pump was ok. I then removed the drain hose and clean it out. D problem still hasn't been solved, I am contemplating removing the entire sump tomorrow hoping this might finally sort the problem or reveal the cause of the blockage.

Mine wasn't draining so followed your vid. Nothing blocked and meter reading fine so guess pump had internal fault (was 4+ years old). Sourced one from eBay for £21 and all is good. Saved £360 we were about to spend on a new machine so cheers.

Nice! Mine (actually a temporary replacement until our REAL machine is repaired after some freezing damage during a winter move) pumped noisily once and now it won't pump (just a buzzing sound coming from the pump with very little vibration) so I'm hoping when I take it apart tomorrow morning that I'll find some bobby pins and fluff in there.

Normally you dont have to take the pump out. Just tip washing machine up unplug the hoses of the pumb and feel inside for whatever is stopping the impeller to turn. Thats it.

we have a - Siltal - washing machine, that was made in Slovenia or Italy. the factory long has closed. But uses or better used many BOSCH insides.17 (seventeen) years old. we use it daily. The only thing we replaced was the main belt. a belt for the water pump. electric brushes for the pump motor. but now it looks the pump has finally given up. we will get the tester from an outside source and do the check if the pump is dead or not.
back now... pump, the same blue -box- that you have. we also had first removed some things that were wrapped around the propeller. pump did not work. so we tested it directly.connnected the pump directly with a cable and plug. the pump was working. so, we are looking further, why it is not discharging water. maybe something more inside is blocked? we will dig...
ok, back for the final. we removed all the hairs and lint and bits and pieces from the propeller. scratched off a little lime here, opened the pipes, blew through them to make sure all were free. connected everythign together. and it works just fines. could it be that sometimes a good shake and scatch and clean up will do the trick as well? anyway, the machine is still good and we will not sell it just because it is old. and our friend, the engineer said, should we decide to sell, only to him. because the machine still has many good and useful parts inside. looks like 17 years ago they did make GOOD things.

Thanks for the video. My machine washes and drains but won't always spin. If I'm lucky it spins. Sometimes I have to remove part of the load and spin in it two lots, even then it doesn't always work. I've checked the filters. The machine makes a strange noise at the start of the draining process but it proceeds to drain, just won't spin. I wonder if you think it's worth checking the pump?

I've unplugged and re plugged. Should I pop the circuit switch on and off too? I'm getting a multi meter after work today and will check the drain pump with it,
If it is an open circuit would the problem then be in the circuit board?? I can open that and make sure everything is tightly connected still.

I found out recently after using multimeter on my washing machine pump that even though it passes the test, it doesn't necessarily mean it works continuously while in operation. I kept getting a F-02 and "Suds" code on my washer. I tested everything. Logically I thought that if water was not draining from tub it has to be weak or dead pump. However the pump was showing perfect readings. I swapped out pump and washer is working great and draining. Sometimes you just never know.

Hmmm...now that you say that...it is on the bottom in the dead centre and is very small...so maybe it is as you say...does it fail as there is some kind of abnormal pressure building up and so the hole fails first ? I have to say though that the machine is just about 18 months old...not long to my mind...I have found where I can buy a pump local to me for about £18...thanks for the reply.

Hi! Very informative video. ON my washing machine I was receiving LED flashes that corresponded in my manual to a "clogged pump" I took the base off, removed the hoses attached to pump, and then removed the pump itself. I disassembled it like the video here, but there was no blockage, nothing. I then reassembled everything and am reciving the same error.
Is it a control panel error? I do not have a multi meter to check the circuit. How important is that step? Any suggestions?

HI again. This seems to be developing further. I've gone ahead and tested the Drain pump with the multimeter. It beeps, and when I put it in resistance mode I get a higher number than with the two prongs by themselves, but it still has continuity. I'm going to go ahead and order a new drain pump anyways. But I fear there's nothing wrong with it and the problem is elsewhere. Any suggestions?

    Thanks for the tips
Upon inspection of my pump it wasn't open circuit but 120ohms
with a lot of side play in the impeller shaft.
Testing it directly with 240vac the impeller showed would spin once
then stall or just hum at any given random sequence
Im guessing because of the large worn torrance between the rotor and the stator
it now appears to be electrically and mechanically unusable

Hi. I have a Bosch washing machine that won't wash. It fills, heats up and drains but won't go into a cycle - not even rinse or spin - although it did spin once during my fixing attaempts. I've squirted water back up the outlet pipe into the machine via a garden hose pipe and drained it to try and dislodge any grunge - some came out - but it still won't start. Could it be the blocked pump as per your Video? Good video by the way.

Hi there, I have been having some trouble with my washer. It is a maytage front load. "suds" keeps pooping up and is not spinning or draining properly. I did take apart the pump and found coins in it. I did take them out and cleaned it put it back together. I should add that 2 of the 3 blades where damaged. Im thinking that just the 1 blade is not able to pump the water out. Do I need to replace the pump? Or am I able to just get that part with the blades on it?

    • @ultimatehandyman

    • @ultimatehandyman

I'm not sure how much pressure such a pump would provide. I think you are better off with a 12v pump as it's a much safer voltage when working with water.

When replacing water pump on Top Loader there is a rear pump hose that exits the rear of the Bottom of the Washing Machine from the new water pump. DO NOT attach the short rubber hose from the water pump to the rear of the machine when the machine is tilted on its side this is because the short hose will come loose when you tilt the machine back up again and water will drain on the floor.
You must remove the back panel of the machine when it is upright then reach in and attach the short outlet hose from the water pump to the rear inner outlet with the metal outer ring to sleeve.
Then reach inside washing machine drum and rotate freely to test the hose connection.
Ensure the hose inner tubes are all connected to the water pump with there metal rings on inlets and outlets as machine is STANDING UPRIGHT before fixing on the back panel.
You only replace the water pump when the machine is tilted on its side.

I'm watching your videos and they're very educational, congratulations, the next I got a friend's gift from a washing machine wipool duet model 9200, a beautiful washing machine I was very happy with the present, but she has a problem that I can not figure out , When I press the button to connect it emitted a sound signal and not of the match, I am a test asoprando the tube of the pressure switch to it of the start but not stops of filling of water, it is that can help me, I am from Brazil and I have difficulties with mechanics , Because it is an imported washing machine of uses, do not want to sew. I'll try to repair it myself with your help. Thank you.

Hello, My knowledge of washing machines is very limited and I only really know about the motor (brushes) and the pump and how to replace circuit boards etc. You might be better off asking in a dedicated forum like this- bit.ly/2l4plvB

Any tips to open the drain cap when it is stuck?

I used a pair of water pump pliers last time, but you have to be careful not to break the plastic ;-)

how do you remove the pump to replace it??? mine isn't draining at all

+ANGEL DAVIS Normally you unplug the machine and tip it backwards and the pump will be accessible from underneath. Or most machines have a small filter at the front now, there is often a small panel on the front of the machine where you can pull the flap down and then unscrew the filter.

      What machine is it.
      Sure only filter needs cleaning

how should the impeller turn should you get resistance and a light dull clunking or does it spin completely freely?

You can normally feel a little resistance in places which I think is caused by the magnet.

My washer wouldn't drain i removed the pump and there was small sock stuck in there, Put it back together it solved the problem but now I have a small drip coming from in between the pump and the assembly. I tried taking off and back on a couple times appears to be seated correctly all around but doesn't have that tight feel it originally and still drips. Any ideas?

It sounds like it may need a new "O" ring for it to seal properly.

Thanks, I tried a few more times and finally got it to stop dripping, i believe the o-ring wasn't seating correctly after twisting the pump into the locked position.

Hi Handy man my washer dryer is not draining properly ..And so i had to drain all the water out my self from a pipe leading to the trap, i unblocked the pipe and put it back on ...I then put the machine back on spin when it was empty and it spun ok...when i put another wash on the machine still would not empty with water ..is it the pump or the motor that needs replacing ...Thanks Aly

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  6 років тому

It moves round but does not spin freely until it is energised due to the magnets.
