- for those who cried in fitting rooms, let's talk about the epidemic of trends.
we spent our teenage years trying to glow up, wanting "cool" clothes, products, hair styles and everything in between to be considered fashionable, pretty, or enough. when actually, there was no such thing as glowing up, but lies to make you feel worse about yourself and consume.
no worries tho! in this video i want to talk about how i got out of this fast fashion loop and discovered my style and my idea of beauty.
feel free to share your tips and ideas :)

period!! im so sick of the internet to be honest
Truly, I am too, but this situation changed A LOT when I just deleted my insta account. It was a brave action that I did, but I don't regret it. I personally didn't need it. Now I have only UA-cam, Snap (just to take photos) and Pinterest
YES
Just turn off your phone lil bro
Right
OMG ME TOO
I notice this constant cycle of a new trend appearing, fast-fashion brands starting to market it and then because fast-fashion brands are marketing it, it is no longer cool and instead is viewed as cheap. This happens with every trend nowadays and it's why I don't really follow trends anymore and instead wear classic items mostly and leave it to the color combinations and textures of clothing to give my style an edge.
exactly! couldn't agree with you more
Literally the 13 going on 30 dress.
"Buy less, choose well, make it last." - Vivienne Westwood
agree, I started following designers more and realize that it helps me find my taste in fashion. It doesn't bother me anymore if I couldn't afford those things because I was inspired on 'how I can dress' instead of how 'should' I dress (following trends) that I'm not even comfortable to wear. I think fashion is a matter of how long can you use your wardrobe and simply mix and match what you have.
I love Vivienne Westwood so much. I always wore their clothes around and to hangouts with friends but I was always criticized for being too much and trying to hard or having a weird style because of the bright colours but now everyone seems to be liking her again and i'm being asked how long I've had my clothes and how pretty they are. Times really change 😭😭.
One of the things I hate about aesthetics is that they try and box you in. I always found myself worrying about which hobbies or parts of myself I would have to give up to be in an aesthetic which is just terrible! We are all too unique and multifaceted to truly be one aesthetic and that’s a great thing!!
SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK‼️‼️ honestly the whole aesthetics thing is a really poorly veiled attempt at trying to water people down into one dimensional caricatures of "themselves" almost like a shittily written character and honestly it sucks real bad
FOR REAL! I thought that, because I like shopping and "basic clothes" and bonfires, I'd have to give up liking anime
These trends ruined me 2 years ago, I completely lost my sense of identity, dropped all my hobbies and just made TikTok’s in my room attempting to keep up with the latest trends. I was so addicted in trying to fit in, and I didn’t realize it then but I was so unhappy and sad. At one point I kind of realized how addicted I was to TikTok and these trends so I deleted the app all together. It’s been two years and I haven’t redownloaded it since. When I look to trends now and how people act as a result of them, I honestly cringe. Like genuinely, what the hell is deer pretty? I’m so much happier now, I invest all my time in learning and doing hobbies. I don’t even care about my appearance anymore, I dress comfortably and completely stopped wearing makeup. If I could, I would tell everyone to delete the app. It literally BRAINWASHES people and it is so sick. If you think you’ll miss out on anything, trust me you won’t . The trends that stick you’ll hear about it one way or another and the ones that don’t (which are most these days) you won’t miss out on anyway because they will last a week. DELETE TIKTOK!
I don't know you and still I feel so proud of you as I read this! It's a lot that's difficult to snap out of AND it's easy to fall back into.. I also deleted everything and stopped wearing makeup, etc. What that did is allow me to actually just feel good in my own skin finally and to feel content, which is soooo unprofitable for all these companies haha
This is so true deleting tik tok changed me i havent had it since 2020 and its amazing
I never had TikTok and hearing stuff like this makes me so grateful I never got it, it would have messed me UP! I’m so glad you managed to rediscover your hobbies and live your life for yourself!!!😊
“The apps are free because the person is the thing being sold”
omg i needed to hear this so much.
Thank you, ive been off social media for a month and it's been such a lonly journey 😢
I want to ask how do you dealt with loosing or finding friends that will support you in this?
thank you for bringing me back to reality, it is so silly to always have the need to have a “label”. like no i’m not coquette downtown girl aesthetic, im me
exactly!! and that's even cooler :)
Thank you, I'm a teen girl, and you really opened my eyes. The only problem is that everybody has social media, and if you try to be unique, you get haters for trying to 'hard' or trying to be 'different'. ALOT of it is probably caused by peer pressure. You earned a new sub
yes but we can't be liked by everyone, and that's okay :)
@@iitsgi yup :)
@@Clare-o-o-o and thank you sm for subscribing me and sharing your opinion !
@@iitsgi You deserve more subs
As a 22 yo girl, I deleted IG app and snapchat from my phone, I only limit my acc to very very close people, and I only follow people I enuoy their content which for me is artists, at first getting off IG and Snapchat felt overwhelming but honestly I barely miss it nowadays and my friends got used to it and when we meet they show me their pictures which honestly feels much healthier to me than viewing someone else's life thru a screen. Basically do what you believe cuz this is what really matters
People are creating new "aesthetic" everyday and some are basically the same but with different names lol. It makes people believe they can only like certain things to fit in that aesthetic. Like, voluntarily putting yourself in a box. We can like multiple things with some being the opposite of each other
It's like losing your old self
this just randomly popped up in my recommended but girl you're so correct about all!!!
thank you!! i'm glad
also the whole classifications of “cores” and “aesthetics” lead a lot of young teen girls (like myself) to believe sticking to one aesthetic and conforming yourself to that is the only option. I’ve seen so many people comment “What aesthetic is this?” like bro it’s just cool clothes or the original posters personal style no need to add a label for everything
If I hear the term "strawberry legs" one more time I'm gonna lose it
I keep hearing people say that any slightly unique style is tweecore??? what the hell
HUH??
you can really tell how ppl needed this video by the comment. nothing makes me die on the inside more than when people see a cool outfit and go like "what aesthetic is this? what's the name of this style?" like pls be fr
real trends are so stressing, i sometimes find myself feeling bad for not buying something trendy even if i don't really want it
i remember wearing a brown puffer with squiggly designs (when it was in) and people judged it because it was new and it was different. It was an up and coming trend that people didn't know much about until people started to wear it. So this perspective of me trying something new and people perceiving it was odd that I was wearing it, also shows that trends appear suddenly and then go away suddenly as well.
these videos make me ponder if i genuinely like the trendy things or if im just following the trend 😭
we all wonder that 😔
I loved how you point out these “cores” make you feel as though you are dressed up, or wearing a costume. That’s a great way to describe it. I feel like all too often the clothes don’t suit me, but are rather fueled by the hope of me fitting in some kind of category. Great video!
That’s why aesthetics annoy me so much. People buy a new wardrobe every year, because they want to fit a new aesthetic. Often one aesthetics gets rebranded in so many different ways. I think trends are not always bad and can help you with your style, but don’t limit yourself to micro-trends, maybe let the trend sit for a while and then look if you still like it.
love this girl❤ hate when the internet labels clothes as certain “aesthetics”
Oh girl more people should listen
thank you 💞 it's truly a spiral we are all in sadly
everything u said was correct and I 100% agree it's so hard to realize these things are happening to us and how easily we get influenced nowadays everyone is dressing the same and has the same aesthetics no one is being themselves I miss when everyone was different and had there own identity.
And when was that?
@@itsdsk before the trend of changing your entire lifestyle to fit in to 1 aesthetic
@@YamamaAlJamous back then there was only 2 type of people the aware ones and the ones that weren’t aware now even those that weren’t aware are now participating as if they were aware and those that are aware as of now I guess are sellouts. But I’m some ways I question the idea of awareness and temperament and discernment. But I understand I too it’s like everyone found out about surgery and now everyone has lips done or something people are just pushing the same agenda
@@itsdsk i agree
but since COVID-19, social media became more popular and now it's causing little kids to be influenced by these lifestyles, which reduces their creativity and chance to find their own identity because they are trying to have the perfect lifestyle they see online.
i completely agree w/ everything you said in this video! i hate seeing videos titled as "how to find your style and stick with it" because we should be able to wear whatever! we dont need to stick to one certain style/aesthetic
the REAL way to glow up is to like yourself. that's it.
And I do think of style like food honestly street food, highend couisine, mom&pops (my favorite), homemade (favorite), etc these are different ways of consuming fashion
I decided a while ago I didn’t wanna be put into one box anymore because depending on how I feel on different days I want to dress differently and express myself differently.
When iwas little, i used to where the clothes that are trending now, like bows and ballet flats. when i adopted these trends again , i felt like i went back to my original self.
that's cute! embrace it then :)
Very true! Sometimes i am afraid to wear something different because people will judge, i know we should not listen to people's opinion but sometimes it hurts, social media really ruined unique styles
im a teenager and snap and insta groups are so awful bc everyone just shames random people they dont even know by their looks and this honestly inspired me to stand up for this one girl and tbh i should've done it sooner
It’s so hard to stand up for the right thing when so many people are shouting you down, but I’m so proud of you for going against the grain and standing up for people. We need more people with your attitude!
My idea of a glow up is me doing the things I’ve wanted to do for ages but out off such as certain skin cares, taking care of my hair better, buying the clothes I! Wanted! In my mind glow ups are a you goal. Not some trends people expect you to follow. It legit been psychologically proven that if you are 100% perfect ppl WILL find you unnerving and boring. THIS WAS PROVEN BTW. If you look perfect, perfectly symmetrical, and like everyone else people will find how you look as low-key boring.
People prefer, feel more comfortable with people with “bad” features
Don’t glow up for other ppl glow up for your own goals
Super de acuerdo, el "glow up" se convirtió en una forma más de convencer a las personas de comprar cosas que no necesitan y promueve constantemente un consumismo desproporcionado
I absolutely love neon green and kelly green. I can never find the proper shades of green while I try to look for new clothes. Hopefully green becomes the next colour trend. I need more green! Especially green shoes, I can't find them anywhere. I had to settle on a pair of black basketball shoes and I used neon green and black beads on the laces. I've been emo for 18 years because I was born and raised as an emo. My dad was emo and my mum loved rock. Fashion has changed so much and I can't find anything that looks good when I go shopping, even online. I'm a guy but I have to shop in the womens section often because they usually have more choices. The mens section is mostly tshirts sadly. If you are a fashion designer, please use more green, I NEED IT!
Also, if you cosplay, it is a good idea to buy a pair of "ballet" shoes. Walking around conventions in uncomfortable costume shoes are PAINFUL! Always bring a light pair of shoes with you so you can change them if needed.
P.S, even though I am a guy I've started to wear bows because my service dog in training is a poodle. He has to wear bows in his hair to keep it out of his face. I absolutely adore my puppy so we wear matching accessories. I make the bows myself, they are very simple to make. We use "show bows" which look very fancy. If you have a poodle or a longhaired dog that wears bows, you should check out the dollar tree, they usually have a lot of ribbon.
You may have luck trying to dye white clothes green to get that color you want. There's a lot of dyes you can buy at the craft store that are user friendly.
this is so TRUE and it’s why i decided to delete tiktok and instagram ♡
deleting instagram is such a good move... still can't do it
i think the bow trend differs in some ways because people could participate without buying anything (theoretically) which i think is cool- i wish more trends were like that
Thank you for opening my eyes because especially for shoes because recently or a long ago, Jordan’s 4s were popular in the 2000s but now there popular ( I’m not saying that they were never popular) and I would always see girls wearing it at my school because I thought it was a “cool” trend so it lend me into wanting Jordan’s and looking at Pinterest for inpso but then i stopped and think again “ do I really want theses?” “ do they really fit my personality?” So I realized that isn’t me because I’m just following trends so thank you for opening my eyes🤍🤍
i don't even know what i, myself find cool atp. i try being my own person when it comes to fashion, but having a limited budget makes it even harder to actually build a good wardrobe, because i usually waste my money on clothes that i regret buying 1-2 months later. i want to explore accessories and jewelry, i've been focusing only on wearing "trendy" clothes, while not even trying to express myself with little details.
anyways, hopefully i'll find myself a bit more, i'm working on my journey. you should too, never give up!
ty for the video love, you're extremly beautiful!😚
Beautiful smart young girl , which is so rare bcuz everyone has been influenced by social media and they don't know that they are brainwashed , they making people think if they follow new trends and being tiktok pretty makes you cool and let you be that girl, wtf is " that girl" , and plus that we're not just having fast fashion we have also tiktok beauty standards like if u don't have button nose big eyes with long lashes and plumpy lips and and a silk hair you are not Beautiful like ughh I'm really tired i have tiktok just becuz some times i need new recipes or some tips on something , I'm being myself becuz i realized that all of that shit they do it for marketing to keep up w everything every year and don't mess any trend to buy all the items that you're buy in ut becuz u think u gonna look cool becuz it's trendy , thank u for talking about this subject, keep doing a great content like this and we'll gonna support you ❤❤❤
100%! thank you so so much 💗
ur so right i've been feeling this lately I don't like going on tik tok anymore all trends are made to make women become insecure the eyebrow blindness blush blindness hairline blindness omg who caresssss these trends are leading women and young girls to over analyze their features and compare them to others
My 2nd year of Uni's gonna start in a few days and the whole last month I was hyperfixated on buying new clothes and wear according to my "personal style". I bought a few stuff like tops, jewellery and shoes. For a long time I have been obsessed with mary janes so I decided to buy a pair of dupes, and after I did I tried wearing it and I got hit by reality so bad. I didn't like how it looked on me and wasn't going with my overall "style". Thats when I realised how much hyperfixated I was in getting a glow up and leveling up my style while I completely ignored my "personal style". I love baggy jeans because it doesn't touch my skin and I have sensory disorder but what I was trying to buy were "skin tight" flared jeans. That is why it hit me that I was just following trends instead of what makes me feel good and myself. Now I am returning the stuff that I bought and trying to not force a "glow up" on me when I don't even need it. :)
I agree w this sm!! Trends shouldn’t define who you are.
this video is so underrated. Not only when it comes to clothing but trends in general. I feel like Tiktok and Instagram Reels really ruined uniqueness
thank you so much!
Yes girl like i love me and im already pretty i dont need to change or glow up 😛🩵
period!!
this is why i stick to my own unique style. some days i dress grunge, some days i look girly with pastels and other days i just wear jfashion! stick to what catches your eye and build off of that, all those microtrends are dumb imo
Thank you!!!
I'm so happy that im not the only one who think that way. Trends are destroying us. Overcomsuption now is crazy☠️
We lost our identity, common sense and individual way of thinking and that's concerning.
And I'm saying this as 19 year old. Period.
Dont stop doing your job girl!!
Greetings from Poland
thank you so much!! 💗💗
girl thank u u really opened my eyes and changed my perspective on things, I was just recently blindly struggling with buying trendy scincare, but now I realize I can opt for cheaper, yet no less effective options
so glad you liked it
DILOOO!! deberíamos desconectarnos más de las redes y dejar de depender en puras micro tendencias.
GREAT VIDEO, BTW
thank you. Someone had to say it. Imagine the anxiety people must experience when they don’t feel on trend? Sad
girl just the perspective i’ve been supportin, lysm❤️
great video! the way our society currently works depends on our insecurities so they can sell us the supposed cure, but defining your self worth through outside validation is a never-ending cycle, you cannot possibly keep up with all the new demands and trends. find what you really genuinely like and you will be much happier, even if it does not match up with anyone else's idea of "cool"
Thank God that I deleted all my social media accounts, and this is one of the best decisions I've made, I just have pinterest and youtube
Divesting yourself from trends first involves you removing the voices around you from influencing your inner voice. When I quit Instagram, I could finally LISTEN to myself and what I WANTED. It’s been fun to figure out who I am without the need to chase trends or the idea of being a part of The Moment- live IN the moment, instead. 😊
The moment I realised this was 6 years ago, when I couldn’t even put on a simple outfit for the day, before logging into Pinterest or Instagram to let it choose for me. I became “obsessed” that I couldn’t let *myself decide* but rather let current trends or aesthetics decide my decision.
I only have UA-cam left and deleted all my social media platforms.
This is the first time in months ive watched a UA-cam video fully that isnt like gameplay without constantly skipping or putting it on 2x because my attention span has just been ruined by tiktok i dont know but what you’re saying isnt repetitive and thats why its nice to listen to
omg that's so nice to hear! thank you so much
the inspire versus influence is a really cool sentiment! love that.
Exactly girl .. that’s what I really want everybody to listen for , I’m really sick of those new trends and it’s just make me unsure about really what I love and what I don’t cause I’m a person who don’t have a specific style it just depends on my mood,so when I see the influencers and Pinterest I just feel uncomfortable, also it’s not about that only I lost my touch of styling I cannot wear something if I don’t scroll on Pinterest .. everything should be perfect and in aesthetically way in the world of social media and trends , so that’s really makes me take a step to delete ig and Pinterest . i hope everyone listen for that cause it’s really true .
Your video style is so polished and your quality is brilliant,, I can already tell you're going to be one of my favourite youtubers from now on
thank you so much :( it means a lot 💞💞
omg you are so true. why i’ve never realize before?
my favorite influencer ever
my favorite girl ever
@@iitsgiomg the real gigi just noticed me!!!!!😭😭😭🤞
I keep worrying that I don't have one aesthetic. Tbh I like a bit of everything, I am not one thing and for me that just made me feel like I was a freak who didn't have any stability and when I would see girls online have their one thing, like that's their main thing, I would get instantly depressed and felt like something was wrong with me. I consulted with my parents about this and my mom assured me that there was nothing wrong (altho I do have to say I have been through things that have made me a little unstable in my head), that I needed to get my head out of the internet and stop worrying about what other people think or what others are doing. She told me I needed to detox and take time for myself to figure out who I am and that even if who I am is a little bit of everything, then that's just the person that I am and that I need to love it.
its kinda crazy because literally all the movies gen z grew up with like only talked about “be yourself” and they just dropped that lol
Honestly this need to be said, it's just a way for you to buy more things that you probably don't need and capitalise on insecurities you didn't even have. I wish people could just do what they want rather than follow a trend that will become hated in two weeks.
I agree. As for cheetah print, I have always loved it because my classmate’s mom who I always thought was so cool used to wear it all the time. I will love it no matter how overused and tacky it becomes. ❤
This is really what i needed after a year full of inscurity! Tysmm
no thank YOU! 🥰
this video is pure art. ty.
This is so true omg 💕😭
That’s why I hate buying clothes and stuff because they only sell stuff that’s trending and I don’t want that so now I have no where to buy clothes
Stores always sold trendy clothing, but what you have to do is buy the stuff you want to wear. Like wear colors you like, cuts you like, prints you like (if you like prints). Things are expensive so try to get things that pair well together. If you also had an alternative phase, like goth or emo, look back into that. I think a lot of people aren't "supposed" to look normal. Like myself, I'm goth and I don't feel comfortable dressing "normal" because it doesn't show who I am. I want someone to clock me as a weirdo from a distance just because if I say weirdo shite, I don't wanna make people confused or uncomfortable.
Hi, I agree with what you say and I have to add or to say that the cores actually helped me to find what I like. Through the categories I could see what I'm drawn to and now I can build around those cores and add and change everything I like so it will be my personal fashion or core. I literally don't care about trends. And fortunately I never now what is trending right now so I will hopefully fall less into the trap of buying trendy stuff I actually don't like. I'm happy about it ❤ nice video 🌸👍
true! but i think where it goes to far is when every little micro trend becomes a core. and that just ends up with the same thing under different names.
I remember when glowing up meant looking after your mental health, working on yourself such as working out and eating better, using products that ACTUALLY work for your skin, keeping your ownership to minimum (not living minimistically, but, living within your means and decluttering what is stressing you/etc), basically being a you you love and adore - it was a way to find *yourself*, learn who you are, and enhance that whilst also working on things you weren't happy with and now it's some trend used to make people feel inferior... I'm at the point I've deleted all social media other than like one app to talk to my piercer/tattooist and that's it now. It's so sad to see what the internet has become in the past years.
Some glow up things are nice.
-luxury shampoo and shower gel is so different, it smells amazing all day.
-cutting hair into a nice shape.
-and then I got myself a nice face serum and a really good foundation.
It didn’t cost much (35$ in total), but I look young af.
And also some new clothes are ok.
The timing is crazyyy❤
I thought about it fewtimes and finally I found someone talking about this topic
Omg I always felt this in the back of my mind WE NEED TO MAKE THIS VIDEO VIRALLL
Wow, I really liked your approach on the topic. I never thought about getting inspo from a lamp designer :))) but fashion really should simply be a representation of yourself. You don’t have to fit it a certain category
Thank you!!! I just want to be myself and have more than one aesthetic. Love this video!!
I always feel confused on why people say Ballet Flats is a trend since it never stopped being a thing!? Like it's a classic just like how the basic Converse never went out of style.
yes! couldn’t agree more
Gigi u made the video i didn’t know i needed. Thank you sissy
YOU SPILLED, i hope that more girls would hear this bc everything you said is so true
1:42 this is so real because people randomly started separating everything in “aesthetics” after the tumblr era, and its so upsetting to see that it is still a thing to this day because at the time i was just 11-12 years old, i am 18 now and i remember vividly how bad i felt because i couldn’t find an aesthetic that fully felt like myself. i cant help but wonder how many young girls or boys feel pressured to find a “core” to represent them and stick to at all times when they can just be themselves and be however they want to be perceived as, especially when tiktok is so critical about styles that arent seen more regularly
I really like how you think 🙏🏽🙏🏽 good job! I am a slow fashion designer and I see so many people following the trends but in the end they don’t develop their unique style.
true! thank u so much 💗
So hard these days to figure out if we really like something or if we are just following the trends !
Thank you so much for saying the facts and help us open our eyes !
I didn’t know what hip dips were before and now I know I know I have them and now I hate it
I'm not English speakers, so sorry for my mistakes. I'm so glad that someone begin talk about it cause when some thing became trends it captures all of stores and you just don't have a choice. And if you belong to "core" you should behave in certian way for match image.
And thank you fot sub it's really useful for me❤
You are so true
Being you is a flex🎉❤
Just love yourself the way you're 💜
Thank you sooo much for this!! ♡
people talk about this but will refuse to not conform to these trends and aesthetics
true, but i feel like even if we are aware of this, we are at the same time influenced daily by these social pressure when it comes to style, so it's hard to break from that
When, I normally watch UA-cam videos. I tend to scroll through the comments too but, i did not do that will watching this. I really like how personal your videos and the simple/minimalistic editing. HOPE YOUR CHANNEL GETS MORE ATTENTION :)
omg thank you so much! it means a lot ❤️
this video needs to be seen by everyone ❤
Love the tips and insights you shared in this video ! Fast fashion was always the cheap version of personal style and identity
i’m glad i don’t use tiktok that much anymore and explore my own interests and not something thats on the for you page and trendy
Oh wow, social media has normalized this so much. Without this video I would never doubt the whole core thing, you really opened my eyes. And this video is also underrated, more ppl need to see this!! ♥️
thank you!! 🫂💗💗
This was an honest reality check, thank you
thank you for watching
You had me hold with the first line, subscribed ❤
I would also add that people tends to believe some aesthetics are combine with a certain personnality. For exemple, a grunge person would have to be badass, mean, and stuff like that.. It sucks so much
so true!
you are so right about it. ur channel is great btw
thank you so much! 💞
this is so real... im 13 and too skinny to fit into a lot of the trending clothes but this has brought me back to reality like girl you are not a stockholm clean girl pinterest it girl you are literally just a 13 year old girl
yes! it's cruel forcing standards even on such young girls so pls don't listen 😭 stay true to yourself
it's so true, I feel like I don't know what I like anymore
it happens to me too
One thing I will not be doing is elliminating clothing apps because a credit card so i can't buy in those apps. And they're useful because I like to see what they have in the store, so i know what i want to buy, its a step more in the buying procces and i have more time to think about what i want to buy or not buy
I’m not sure if this could also be expanded into one’s heritage. I’ve seen a lot of bashing towards those who prefer fashion outside of their own heritage. People making them feel they aren’t worthy to have their own taste in clothes that isn’t always centered around the validation from others from their cultural background. Or the superiority complex that gets attached to it.
I'm tired of seeing people putting social media on a pedestal. Ive been quitting social media and it's been a really lonely journey. I havent found anyone who's interested in doing their own and not copying off social media. I hope i could find someone..
