I would be considered a failure as well. IF you are at the bottom, however, you have nowhere to go but up. The world is changing. The "here" that you thought would exist back in your younger days doesn't really exist anymore, but there are other opportunities to turn all that you have into more than you might think. I've only ever done small successes and I've had a lot of them, but that's because I forgo things like sugar, comfort, women, etc because I think that decadence and pleasure and comfort are bad for us. But that's just me. I got started with Diogenese, watching One Punch Man, learning about nihilism, and ended up becoming a Christian. I see satanic forces on the daily, so for me, life is a lot more interesting and meaningful now than it ever was.

I think I beat you at the being a failure schtick.. 67 years old...deep in debt...can't retire..will lose my job of 46 years pretty soon....no friends,close family,relationships...most teeth gone...not obese now because of the chemotherapy I'm going through for my stage 4 esophageal/gastric cancer..have 4 other chronic health issues for which I take 11 medications daily...and there's nothing I can do about it.....even if I had the physical/mental/emotional energy to do anything about it. They say God loves everybody...imagine if it/her/him hated me...Just hoping to die suddenly and soon.

Even if someone is doing better at our age, that isn't the point, the point is, how were they doing when THEY WERE AT THE SAME POINT AS ME. Like let's say you started going to the gym and compared yourself to a person who was there for 5 years, that's not good at all. But if after like a year you compare your 1 year progress to that guy's year progress you might see that you either did better or worse, and from there you can either find ways to be more efficient at your task or just keep doing what you're doing an enjoy it. I think complacency is evil but comparison is also the thief of joy, especially because as humans we usually just tend to take the monkey brain approach and stick with extremes like "oh wow he's a footballer at 20 doing so much stuff! I can never be like him" instead of considering the fact that he has talent AND worked hard/obsessively on football since he was 5 or something. I hope I'm making sense here. Yeah it's true that comparing what others have done with your life isn't good. You think omg they did this so early in their life, got success so quick. Personally I've battled with depression and anxiety for a long time and because of this I haven't worked much and only had one relationship. I'm 39 soon and I think jeez I'm nearly middle aged and wtf have I got to show for my life so far?? Of course this kind of negative thinking like you point out is just gonna enhance any depression should someone already have it. So what I do now is think I cannot change the past, it was a sad time but that's gone now, ancient history but I can make the most of the future. That is in my hands.
