Great video. Very comprehensive. I just fixed my dishwasher after gleaming the knowledge from this instruction. Mine had a broken shard of glass in it, blocking the pump from spinning. But had the pump been bad, i was hot to trot to order one and replace it. With this confidence instilled in me, I'm on to the next project.

Thanks DIY Repairs Now!!! My Kenmore Elite Dishwasher stopped draining so I got a new computer for it since our old one was acting up and I thought that would fix it. It made the lights on the control panel work better and the dishwasher was more responsive but it still wasn't draining! I was about to throw the dishwasher out the window but I paused and I decided to dig a little further and I came across your video. I then checked the motorl like you did and I found a piece of mug that was lodged in the blades of the motor! How did the quarter sized piece of ceramic mug get past the two filters!!!! Well it is working now and I am very happy! Thanks again.
thanks man, i turned off power, fiddled with the filter as much as I could reach and when I restarted the power it worked! I appreciate it.
Thanks DIY Repairs Now!!! My Kenmore Elite Dishwasher wasn't draining (I got a "Motor error") and so wouldn't run at all. I used your video to see how to remove the drain pump. There was a small piece of broken glass that was keeping the impeller from turning which caused the "motor error." I removed the glass piece, replaced the drain pump and all is well!
Hi , Richard Cooney in Castlegar BC Canada , I have the same washer Did what you said and the pump ran ok I took off the rubber L connection on the outlet side of the pump it was full of junk 3 pull tabs a tooth pick and crud cleaned it out and its running great now . So thank you very much for this video .

My pump sounds like there's a bunch of ball bearings bouncing around when it's running and it will not drain, I checked the filters and drain lines. I pulled the old pump off and did what you did in the video and it spun, I put it back on and put water back in the tub and hit cancel to drain but it would not drain the water and was making the rattle noise. I removed the drain hose at the garbage disposal and had to hold it down below the level of the disposal to get water to come out from the dishwasher. I did order a new pump since this one is making the noise maybe it is just weak. Any Ideas
Mine is doing the same thing. Did you figure out what was wrong?

can you provide the part number for that pump by chance? Mine isn't draining completely. It will drain ever so slowly when I hit the drain cycle. I checked the hose at the garbage disposal side and its not clogged there. Digging into the pump unit tomorrow. ive already cleared the filters and used a wet dry vac to clean out the well where the filter goes. nothing appeared to be clogging it up there. So..im assuming its something near the pump assembly.
My comment is above where I had my problem. I ordered a new pump looks just like the one in the video #W10348269 cost 22.70 on eBy installed it and works like new. The old one would spin but would not drain and had water inside the armature.

Does anyone know what could be the cause if you hit cancel and it drains but will not empty with cleaning cycles. If you forget to cancel/drain it manually mold and mildew start up...... and the smell!!!!!

@@Ionizap NO! I replaced the drain pump and installed a new garbage disposal on my sink. Hoses and all. Found no blockages. Upgrade to more powerful disposal and still have to manually push drain to get remaining water out :(
@@wingfoot111 Remove the hose from pump housing, remove drain hose from disposer, use wet shop vac at disposer end of hose, do you have suction at hose end that should be on pump housing? There is a check valve in that hose and it's probably clogged. Replace that hose.
Did you try replacing the hose or did you find the problem?
@@wingfoot111 I did find my problem. Where the drainhose connects into my main sink drain there is. a connector that was clogged.
I have a Kenmore, I will use it until I buy a new one. Not worth fixing it. They cheap enough
