Great video, thank you! For anyone with dishwasher not draining issues, first thing to check is the screen or filter, then check hose and sump for blockage, I disconnected hose at sink, stuck a funnel in it and used shop vac to suck water through. Also check flow switch to make sure it's not stuck closed, it's usually visible in bottom of dishwasher. Check new garbage disposal to make sure Knockout was removed and if not draining completely google siphon gap and see if that might be your issue. Mine was a combination of issues and I just hate to see anybody buy a pump without checking these other things. Also prior to ordering, pump, you can disconnect it reconnect the power leads, select cancel or drain and make sure the impeller works. If it doesn't, use a tick tester to make sure the leads have voltage because if voltage isn't being sent, there is some type of control panel/mother board issue. Hope it helps...

Your comment definitely help, my issue is that I'm not getting power signal from the computer!
I actually bought the pump and realized it was not the pump 🥺
@@emadr1 Did you check the float switch? It should be able to move up and down freely to tell the machine there is water that needs to be pumped out. And or that the wires are connected to it underneath. Keep trying and hopefully you'll get it!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge! We have a similar DW (KitchenAid). A piece of glass was behind the impeller, and with your video we were able to clear it out. Very helpful video!

Slide a cookie sheet under the pump before removing to catch all of the remaining water...saves cleanup time! If it won’t fit under the pump, place it as close as possible to the drain hose and remove it, directing the draining water onto the cookie sheet.

Thank you, very informative, 10 min fix!
Fixed mine! Yay!! I replaced the pump and it still would not drain. No blockages and the machine (Maytag) ran through it's cycles, just would not drain.
**Here's the fix for:
Maytag Model MDB4949/plus many other brands
Remove the exterior door cover not the entire door, there are roughly 8 screws. The selection (buttons) panel clips in; unfasten. Be careful not to break the tabs that hold it in place. It's a rather tight fit.
Simply disconnect the selection panel harness which connects to the control unit (the brains/computer). Note, only need to disconnect from the selection panel. Wait a moment and reconnect.
BINGO! Up and running just like day one. That is all it took. Turns out my old pump was good after testing it on the bench.
These machines are like computers and sometimes need a reset, nothing more.
I sure hope this helps a lot of you out there in a similar bind.
P.S. Maytag/Whirlpool know nothing about this. Spoke to tech support and got no where. They offered to send a tech for $115 just to look at it. Ha!

Great video. I got the same dishwasher. Not sure what the problem is. It won't drain at the end of the cycle but when I press the cancel/ drain button it drains. I do have to press it 2 or 3 times for it to drain completely.

Probably the blades on the pump that help get the water out broke. Mine does the same thing you have to hit it a couple times for its empty. I have a new pump coming that's probably what happened.
Awesome video! Thanks very much for the help!

Not sure i understood the comment on putting vegetable oil in dishwasher? How does this help? Why not rinse dishes in sink ?
Very good videos.
How do I know after taking out my water drain pump is actually no good. Mine doesn't seem stuck. It moves but seem springing when it moves . Just doesn't free flow. Is that normal
Yup
Yes, that’s normal, magnet in motor is preventing the free motion.
Yes that is normal. Saw it on another video.

I used all the tips and eliminated everything except a clogged hose. A 10 ft snake took care of it. Yuck, must have been a 6 inch clog based on what came out. The filtering system seems to be capable of eliminating most particles. Not sure what built up in there- mostly grease?

I have the same problem here. Just have some water left at the end of cycle. But if the pump has problem, wouldn't it stop draining completely? How come only left the last bit of water in the unit? Please help me understand.
What would be the next thing to look at if we replaced the drain pump. It still is not draining

I just did a drain pump replacement and it's leaking. It's a European brand but the pump looks similar to the one in this video. I've seen recommendations to apply silicon grease, dish soap, or rinsing agent to the O-ring before installing the replacement. Any thoughts? The replacement part is not the exact same, but I ordered it from the manufacturer after supplying my model and serial number.

Question: Before taking old pump out, the cycle was running. I found a jam in the rotor which I took out and re- installed old pump. Not only did it not work, the dishwasher won't run now.

I have exactly the same DW and everything is good EXCEPT removing the pump. Are there some tabs or locking parts which require depressing first, or do I just "muscle" it counter clockwise?

Allen Purdy Bay Valley Real Estate I have the same DW also and have the same draining problem. When I took my pump off, yes, you just turn it counter clockwise, it moved fine, meaning no pieces of broken glass or anything else keeping it from moving. Don't forget that clip holding the wire. My problem is with float valve and I'm just looking for something on that.
On Maytags you have to press a locking tab!
There is always a locking tab you must depress before turning it
I replaced the pump on my 2 years old Maytag. It still will not drain. Goes through full cycle but will not drain. Checked for blockage, there is none.
What is the next thing that could be considered the problem?

My Whirlpool DW drains some of the water out. I can hear it draining under my sink. When I removed the pump, it does spin freely and when the power is connected it does spin when it is put in "drain" mode.
Could there be a problem with the float valve? I have moved that around and it would drain fine for a couple of cycles but then that stops and it won't drain again.

The float valve has nothing to do with the draining sequence. Just because your drain motor is spinning doesn't mean that isn't the problem. Make sure the impeller BLADES are all attached (and not broken or missing) on your drain pump. But most of the time a drain pump will still spin, but if there is a blockage in the drain line, it wont be strong enough to break through the clog. It'll just spin and spin. You have to find the clog.
Question. There is water at the bottom of the DW at the end of the cycle I can get the water to drain manually be pressing cancel, however. Is this still a bad pump or something else??

Maybe could've ff through the vacuuming...

The vacuuming was the best part! I think he sucked up a dead mouse at 6:15, and didn’t even mention anything about it! 😂
