I could have don't without pulling the bands, but I was actually trying to remove the diff without pulling the suspension or exhaust system, in the end I had to disassemble the drivers side of the suspension to get it out.
Hey thanks for the video, I have to do the same job on a 2015 Infiniti qx60, is it possible to pull the cv axles out of the differential that way I don’t break the cv axle joint boots?
@hsamo713, yes you can pull them apart this same way, but you will also need pop out the ends of the axles and transfer them to the new diff, my intention was to include how to do that in my video, but somehow was unable to locate that footage while editing. Anyways you're welcome and good luck..
Much thanks Chris, the repair shop wanted $3000 for removal and install with a reman diff, that price covered parts and labor, I did the job for about half that price, parts and labor, helping out a good friend. There's a link in the description box above for the diff I used on this repair..
No need for balance, drive shaft is machined for a centered fit, I would only worry about balancing if you have had to have that done for some reason prior or if you experience vibration while driving that wasn't there until after replacement of the diff..
No not break, separate, there are clamps on the axles that you unfasten in order to separate them, but you can remove the diff without separating the axles, it requires dropping the section of the exhaust below the diff, I chose not to go that route because the bolts on the exhaust were rusted and didn't want to chance breaking them..
I did one and it was pretty easy once you take out the driveshaft bolts to the unit drain the fluid and take out the left upper control arm outer bolt loosen the inner do not remove loosen the lower control arm outer bolt don't remove, remove the left shock lower bolt remove the brake caliper and stabilizer link bolt that goes to the lower control arm, support the differential then take out all the 3 mounting bolts don't touch the bracket with the bushings after that just use a pry bar and pry out the axles one by one from the diff and it slips right out get someone pull on the left spindle to give you room to pry the axle out the diff, when going back in put the axles in the diff one by one before bolting up the diff you may need help to pull back on the left spindle to make room to put the axles in the diff , but it's easier than you think. I didn't do half the work you did , and never remove the left outer lower control arm bolt it's unnecessary and a pain to go back in. I don't even think it was necessary to remove the axle bolt . Thanks for the video anyway.
That happened with my ‘13 Rogue. Dealer quoted me $3,200 for a new OEM rear diff but agreed to install a $380 rebuilt diff I found on clearance on EBay. Labor was $800
@@shellybelle6781 I'll do if for you for $200 if you're in Florida 33012 area. Btw you don't need to do all this to remove the axles, u just need to drop the exhaust from the bushings, remove the stabilizer link and a couple of bars underneath the axles. Then you will drop the front of the differential and stand it up on the ground and the axles will come out one at a time and boom, your old differential is off and the new one ready to be installed. One hour job. It's nuts to do it this way with all the extra work involved and things to potentially go wrong.
@@thediyyardie7192 got it, thanks. The junkyard had it about 2ft in the air when I pulled the diff off. My jack can only get about 1.5ft with jack and wood block combo, I should be good seeing you made it happen.
Very poor quality differential. Nothing like 40s - 80s when you changed fluid if you did a repair. 10 years same fluid not uncommon. My rogue differential went out at 38,000 and again at 111,000👎🏼😥
@u812green7 I totally agree with you about the quality, the really don't make cars the way they used to, and I think that is intentional. my channel is all about helping the average guy to do his or her own repairs..

Nice job. Thank you. Why did you remove the bands on the rear axles instead of pulling them out of the diff?

Did you have to do anything with the rear coil spring that sits atop of the drivers rear lower arm?
Hey Jeffery, no you don't have to do anything to the spring, it will stay in place while doing this job..
