  • Looks like the vibration from the spare tire allowed the internal nut to dislodge and wander about inside.

    My 2016 Rogues differential was destroyed after driving around town for a day with the donut spare tire. (No very long distances nor very fast. ) Sudden loud grinding, a tow and then a $2,000 bill. 😢

    EVERYONE! These rogues suffer from failed differentials as a result of failed (or failing) propellor shafts. The vibration caused is significant enough to loosen this nut. (in addition to the different diameter tire issue)

    I have a 2008 4 wheel drive Rogue with a broken rear end. Can I just take out the drive shaft, differential, and rear axels to make it a 2 wheel front drive SUV?

    My Nissan Rogue spare tire is exactly the same size and feel as the other four tires. It came like that from the factory. My dad put the spare tire on and went almost a month with it. I wonder if that made any impact on my differential.

    The same thing happened to my Nissan 2017 because of a spare tire

    Hi there. Nice video. Do you know if I can replace the spider gears without dismounting the entire unit? I only want access the spider gears without removing the side shafts. Is it even possible? So little space back there ...... 😢

    Sure, just remove the drive shaft and remove the two bolts in the middle of the driveshaft, and remove it, should he 8 total for driveshaft and two in middle

    hello what exactly was the diagnosis.

      OSCAR HERNAN HURTADO HURTADO the issue showed when I used my spare tire. By the time I made it to the shop the oil in the differential was so hot it was bubbling out. Wheels spun but driving it after the tire was fixed there was a lot of knocking, grinding, and shuddering more so in reverse than drive.

      and you completely changed the rear differential?
      I have a very similar problem but when I'm driving I feel that the rear tire is stuck and more when the car is applied more force

    Dude I'm changing the diff in my xtrail as its cracked in half did you remove the rear hubs and pull the rear drive shafts to help drop the diff?? Trying to find a video without any luck. Would really appreciate a reply cheers mate

      Easy way to remove is take off the axle boot and then you can pull it out from the hub (boot by the abs sensor is ) then you only need to buy a new clamp

      @@rudy5991 so, disassemble the cv axle close to the wheels so that no need to disassemble the suspension and such?

    Would it matter if the spare tire was up front or rear , and also the duration the tire was used ?

    • @risudegu
      @risudegu  Рік тому +1

      In my experience, the spare was placed on the rear and i drove 30mph for 10 miles to our nearest tire place. About halfway I smelled something getting hot and my car pulling. I thought something about the spare was locking my brakes. New tire and a mechanic rescue call, it was not the brakes and I now had a lot of new vehicle vocalizations. The part in the video I hobbled around with a couple months before we took the mammoth task of replacing over 2 days. I now claim I have no spare.

    • @risudegu
      @risudegu  4 роки тому

      Tiffany Stevens, no. Both rear wheels spun. By sound though you could tell something was not right. In reverse it sounded like a rock tumbler.

  • @drmiranda23

    Do u have a video of removing that rear end

    • @risudegu
      @risudegu  3 роки тому

      I did not. It was a bigger job than we expected and to get the part out most of the rear end was disassembled.
      Our basic attack plan was to follow the connections out then carefully work towards freeing the part. There are a couple very delicate sensor cables to watch out for. Sorry, this was over a year ago. Mostly I remember being on the pry bar as J disconnected / reassembled. Definitely a two person job.

      @@risudegu much more likely that the pinion nut has let go over time. Its kind of a common issue with them.

      anolescorpion that’s messed up. My friends rogue makes a some what grinding noise if turn sharply to the left or the right at the rear end of the car. But driving straight it’s fine. It might just be that but loose too.

    • @68404
      @68404 2 роки тому

      @@risudegu The pinion nut SHOULD be castellated with a lockpin. But it's not, relying just on a left handed thread to stay on.
      Preventative maintenance would be removing the electronic coupling (leaving the diff in situ), removing the pinion nut, applying read locktite to the thread, retorquing it, and reinstalling the coupling. Just a couple of hours work, but probably will result in the diff lasting the entire life of the car.
      Great video by the way, thank you.
