I'm South African and think this tart looks amazing and will try this recipe for sure. This is such a staple dish and we eat it all the time - tea time, dessert - actually any occasion. So many different ways to make it. Some suggestions to try:- add a couple of drops of almond essence into the custard mixture. Takes the tart filling to next level. Also, dust the entire top with just cinnamon as that is a very prominent flavor element of this dish. You can also use the ready made graham cracker crust shells for the mixture. Can't wait to try your recipe though......yummy!!
Randy, you are very entertaining. This is reminiscent of a banana cream pie. My late sister used to whip the whipped cream for the top (that went over the bananas and the banana pudding) by hand at the table and everyone would be impressed by the show.
I just found your channel about a week ago, and the bingeing has been at an absurd level. I can’t even say how much I love you and that your oven needs duct tape and clothes pins. You just light up everything. Thank you, thank you. God bless you.
That was fun to watch! This is a quick cheat melktert recipe. The real thing requires a shortcrust shell, which you bake and then top with the custard and then bake again. And it needs plenty of cinnamon on top. It's too labour intensive for me, I'd rather buy one baked by an expert auntie.
I once camped throughout East Africa (long story) and met many South Africans or "Afrikaners" as they are known. Their accent has a bit of "German" in it ...Thanks for posting.
Afrikaans (the language) you hear is derived mainly from Dutch - very similar though to Flemmish but we are all South Africans and speak multiple languages - 11 official languages. I'm sure those South Africans were a crazy bunch 🤪🤪
Sorry hen the melktart is a Dutch custard tart and the recipe i have uses a shortcrust or sweet pasty base and it's baked in the oven it was taken to South Africa by the dutch settlers never mind i had a good laugh keep up yer guid work Fae Bonnie Scotland.

As a South African this was very nice (lekker) to see, it is a very popular dessert
Randy, that Melktert looks divine! I’m wondering if using the stencil to apply the design after removing from pan would work?
The best Melktert is making your own crust

Looks delish!!! ❤👏👏
I'm a South African living in Australia, we sound nothing alike.
Sooo different! 😅 Just watch Lethel Weapon 2...'Who's the dickhead now eh?'
Never cookie crust.
More custard tart than melktert. Still yummy
You do not put sugar into cinnamon .
There is nothing out there that can compete with the original boere melktert. Nice try .
