Awesome tut, but one thing to mention. 1:57 - For people who wonder why their strap goes thru the concrete instead of wraping to them, you need to choose "Apply tag to children" under Collision tab. If you group the concretes like the tutorial, you need to do this, otherwise you can also apply the collider tag to each of the concrete.
The collision deformer can fake this very well: place your cylinders inside of a Connect object, give the "cloth" a collision deformer, set to Inside (stretch), and drag the Connect into the Objects list. Shrink the cloth cylinder's radius down and it will nicely wrap around the 3 cylinders - no simulation required, and keeps your object parametric (way lighter on your system too)
In this case it would have worked, but softbody looks better, because you also have deformation in the rotation. Also softbody works way better in Animation: I had so many animation glitches with the collision deformer.
@@vincentschwenk totally. definitely specific to this scenario, collision deformer has a very narrow use case. looks good on faking draped cloth too, or an object pushing through a surface!
getting a lot of slack on my ribbon, tried lowering the rest length but i don't get the same tight wrap. any ideas? (i'm wrapping over an irregular shape, not cylinders
I don't know what's better: A refreshingly concise tutorial on Softbody Dynamics or Vincent's voice that's smooth as butter.
haha. Thanks Ken, that is so nice to hear 😊

This tip was a life saver--Thank you!! & Subbed!!
Thank you Vincent :)
Great video man.
Is it possible to watch old tutorials like this one from october if I will join this month? Is there any archive or smth?
Yes you have access on Patreon to all videos I ever recorded.
thanks vincent!

Thx!
Thank you for the video. How can we achive fake shadows like that?
for lighting, check out the full tutorial on Patreon (available next week)
This is pretty nice! Can you also show how you did the texturing on the strap with redshift? :) Thanks
It is on my Patreon. Cheers
Hey i love this however my strap is also slightly hovering over the cylinders when it stretches.. is this a quick fix?
your collision margin is too high
@@vincentschwenk i have hovering to. what you mean @collision margin"? i dont find it
Do you go over how you get the text on the ribbons on your Patreon?
Yes
great
I followed these steps and my ribbon exploded out in every direction. Is there something I might have missed?
did you check your collision margin?
I sub'd to your patreon and found the solution. For everyone else it is under the "bullet" attributes
I'm having an issue where my strap isn't wrapping around my model (it's a box model), but floats instead. Any way to fix it? thank you
I have the same problem, then, dynamics body tag -collision-self collisions-close,its ok
"thank Q"
good
doesnt work to me
what is your instagram id ?? !! i love you artwork
