Dirtiest Car Ever! First Wash in 20 Years Lost Pontiac Trans Am Rare 455 HO

- This has been one of my pet-preservation-projects over the past few months. I wanted to create what I feel would be a fun "TV show for UA-cam". This was shot over 9 days, 1200+ individual clips, and obviously a ton of car detailing disaster work. For whatever reason, the idea of rescuing or "preserving" a car for someone else to enjoy and rebuild is incredible satisfying. Anyhow, this is actually one of the dirtiest cars I've ever worked on which created a few interesting paint washing problems. The paint was so rough from sun exposure that the dirt was incredibly challenging to clean or remove from the surface of the paint. Likewise, Joe told me later that he has a few extra body panels in his garage that he and Buddy can use for the rust repair stage of the restoration. This was definitely the first wash in 20 years, but well worth the effort. Hope everyone enjoys! -Larry

i’m 17 working on a 1975 trans am too with my dad. Sadly he passed away about a month ago to suicide. Ever since, i promised him i’d finish the car. Not a lot is finished but watching this motivates me to never give up on it. Thank you so much
It’s tough to lose someone so close at 17 I can’t even imagine what you’re going through. Hope you’re doing well man. You’ll always have your dad with you when you’re cruising around in her every summer
Sorry for your loss bro. I know how it is. My Dad passed away 4 years ago. I think about him everyday.just keep your head up bud
So sorry to hear about your dad and the loss you are going through. May you find peace and also find joy in restoring that trans am for you and your dad. I hope and pray you have people in your life that you can talk to. Keep your head up and you will get through this.
@@PeteHSM I might be losing my dad at the age of 12 I can’t think what I would do without him I promised myself I would finish our old golf the family car
Ik how it feels I lost my friend to suicide all because of a girl he was the only person I could talk to
As a diehard Pontiac fan, and an owner of 4 Pontiacs so far in my 37 years of loving the hobby, this is truly awesome to see. Not only a legendary, rare car gets semi revived, but the bond between father & son is unforgettable! I truly hope they decide to restore it and get it back on the road where it truly belongs. Nice to see the 455 roar back to life!! My favorite Pontiac I had so far was my '70 GTO in Cardinal Red with Black interior. I rebuilt the motor in High School Auto Shop class, and had it buttoned up/finished at a speed shop. Drove it for 3 years, and loved every minute! Pontiac Forever.. Gone but not Forgotten!
Smoke and bandit
Saving old Pontiacs is always worth it 🤙🏻
Yeah! Reminds me of this one guy on UA-cam, there's this Fiero you see, and ... Wait a minute.
Do a trans am next?
Ay, bro, I really appreciate your work man
It is a trans am definitely save it way worth it it's a 455 car too
Yeah and making videos about them is even cooler ... RONALD POST SUM lol
At this point I’m left wondering, how does this guy doesn’t have Netflix or Discovery Channel show? The content on this channel is so good.
The answer: The content is good because he is not restricted to their rules, their producers, their choices, their customer preferences.
Larry’s engaging content, is as a result of his engaging persona

Absolutely!
Such trueness!
Yup
Thanks, interestingly, you probably right.......kind of wish we had worked rebuilding , & more on out 77 TA/HURST/ SPECIAL EDITION, ETC. Can be: exceedingly expensive , and more work than realizing...
I am life long Pontiac lover. You found a rare and very desireable "HO" High Output 455?! There is no way this should of been thought of as crusher material. This car was one of the few Heavy Breather Pontiacs that was produced at the tail end of the Muscle Car era! The "HO" had bigger valves in the heads and a longer stroke engine than the standard 400 cube engine. The idea behind it was to try and recapture proformance that was lost from just a few years earlier (peaked in 1970) due to lower compression ratios that helped smog but killed proformance. That HO is a "Holy Grail" rare Pontiac that has incredible potential. Some exhaust work, a big cam, etc. and this car was hard to beat! I love it!
I have built my detail business off of Larry’s UA-cam channel I went from $50 details to 1500+ ur channel has help me out so much really appreciate it Larry
:)
I'm currently building a detail business of my own, thanks to Larry. I started in October of last year. I don't have a stable client base yet, but the customers I do have tell me that I'm the best detailer they have ever had. It's about quality, not just wiping down a car and pushing it out the door in two hours like so many other "detailers".
No way was this car crusher material, Thousands of us would never see this gem as unworthy for restoration.
It looks like junk to me
Those that think this car is junk, knows NOTHING about cars.
@@robgom777 my uncle and his friends had one. My homies' dad has one now that running and he WILL NOT SELL IT..LOL
Nah, that’s the new cars today, “they all look like electric shavers”
I agree with you wooley. A 455 4sp ac trans am will only go up in value.
Larry: "There's no way this can be safely restored without removing all the mold first"
Derek from ViceGripGarage: "It's been sitting in the field for last 20 years, and there's a dead possum in the back. We gonna start it and drive 500 miles, and maybe I'll wash it after"
Just a quick tap on the old lightning whirler and a guy might be driving this beauty home.
And that’s fine
I’ve been watching too much UA-cam seeing as how I completely understood your references! Ha ha.
she's a real going to town rig.
I can see we all are fans of the same channels lol 🤣🤣🤣🤘🏻
From a DIEHARD Trans Am fan and owner (one of every generation in the current collection) this video made my heart happy. THANK YOU for saving such an amazing TA from the junkyard. We’ve lost too many already.
Such an awesome car, I had a Trans Am back then but not nearly that nice! Great to see this come to life!
I watched this after watching your video on thatching!
@@pj9241 That's too funny. I love Ammo, always good stuff to watch too!
I don't get why a Trans Am 455 isn't worth restoring.....especially a manual. It's not that far gone.
@@FTsingos if it's bad frame or firewall some states would make it a salvage title
3:41 Anybody else like how the leaves start rolling off the car, to reveal such a beauty? 😌👍
Larry I’m not even exaggerating, this may be the best video you’ve ever produced. I loved this style of editing and the content was great. Can’t wait to see what’s next!!
@Nathan Brokenshire.
Maybe I missed something but starting a car which has been sat for 10 years without fresh oil or petrol and checking the ignition system?
You did the right thing... preserving a unique COOL car is great. I have a 92 XJ Limited I am preserving. Yes, nearly 1 mil were made from 86-01, but, breaking it down to the year less than 150k were made and many many were cut or crushed since then :) Great video
Nice job Larry , you have a good soul. You are changing people's lives through these awesome cars.
It's nice to see the future generation getting excited about these old classic cars.
I see you Larry molding and teaching the next generation of detailers...future YT video..lol !
Keep up the good work .
Yes 🙌
If there will even be manual anymore in the coming years😂
Since you talked about the future generation, I thought you might like to hear. I purchased a 1983 Volkswagen Beetle as a 17 year old last december! :)
Production quality in this one is even better than usual (and that’s a high bar to clear). Thanks as always, Larry.
@@Djuztin nice choice in my early 20's my car of choice (my baby) was a 1984 VW Rabbit GTI . Post a pic of your car once you put some AMMO on it . (I'm sure Larry will like it.) Any of your friends into older cars too ?
I wonder if there are many kids out there who like the older cars from the 70s and 80s ?
I had 2 ‘75 Trans Ams. There is absolutely a place for front plate. I had one on both.
Buddy worked on my Cutlass about 20 years ago, he was great to work with back then and I'm happy to see that he's still the same guy he used to be.
Hearing this makes me happy 👍
I was watching this and I realized the guy looked really familiar... then I realized it was Buddy!!! He still has the shop on Barnett Ave!
lol, small world
There was a time in my life when I would have looked at that car, and see nothing other than "455 HO". I had friends that would say "yeah, but dude, it is ROACHED, it is MOUSED, it is RUSTED. It's not a project, it's a nightmare looking for a fool to happen to!"... And I would have said "455 HO, even if it is a smog era engine... Best of luck on restoring
Most engine in the 70s were underrated for the power they made. Most made more more power than the manufacturer says.
This is what puts Larry above the rest: going the extra mile not just with detailing cars, but detailing life lessons. Looking forward to finding a project to work with my son once he gets older that’ll last us years.
Exactly. And it's something he seems to do frequently and not just rarely. I love to support people like Larry who go above and beyond.
I would never want this car crushed. It a piece of history, including the fact it's a 455. It's so sad how people can just remove something from history.
They are ass holes.
My parents' second car was a Camaro with the Corvette style tail lights and the same red paint job. My dad loved the car but was forced to sell it when gas prices went through the ceiling. He once borrowed a friend's Corvette (late 1980s model) and NEARLY decided to get one because it was the fastest car he had ever driven at the time. The Vette put out nearly 300 hp, which was a lot back then.
@@largol33t1 that's so bad ass, I'm not a big Chevy guy. I'm a Pontiac guy so this car is definitely a icon in my heart. But my neighbors had a Camaro for 3 years but they sold it. I loved that car
I'm 22years old and my dad restored a 1966 mustang by himself. I was inspired to do the same and now we bought a 1980 trans am pacecar so now I'll be able to help and make one of my dreams come true. Thanks Larry I always watch your videos so I can learn more.
Always loved those pace cars.......congrats and good luck on the restoration
Thank you for helping out regular folks who dream of restoring classics. It’s been a very rough year for many Americans and restoring a car is even harder now than before because so many people lost jobs, money, and loved ones. Currently my dad and I are getting ready to replace the engine in our project car and we’re very excited as we’ve had the car for 3 years and we haven’t really been able to drop money in it

Saving classics is always worth it. I'm building an aftermarket parts factory in southern Bogotá Colombia to eventually provide new replacement parts for nearly everything ever made from the 1930s to the 2000s.
Good make body parts for 58 Chevys
it kinda seems like larry has more passion for this car than the owner does. a true car guy.
honestly looks like that
Unfortunately yeah...but it probably has more to do with knowing it'll cost a lot of money and time to fix it and probably doesn't want to get into a project at the moment.
i mean yeah, the guy said he bought it only cause it was of his friend
Hey, I'm a 15 year-old kid in az. I own a 1974 Pontiac formula 455 ram air, its been sitting in storage for 10+ years and its amazing to see such a beautiful car be redone, i love your videos and just seeing this video made my day. I love it and soon hope to make mine that way.
If someone says crush/burn it. Then they don't have a life. Tgis is a true classic American muscle. It is so worth restoring to it's former glory.
Larry, you are such a kind person. Videos like these always get me. It's not just a car.
As a Dad, you didn't need to explain any of it. I knew right away, this was a project to spend time with his son and the next generation. Time is so fleeting.
Loved this episode. I love the attention to detail and you already knowing what buttons to push. A classic car saved and hopefully many memories for Joe and his son.
I'm working on a 1975 Firebird Formula 400. So awesome to see classic Pontaic Firebirds still around and being restored.
I swear every car community has a "Buddy" (the guy that got the car going) and those guys are absolutely priceless to have around with their personality and knowledge.
Car came out fantastic. Here's to seeing it get fully restored.
My first car was a 1975 Trans Am. Watching this detail brings back some great memories. Thanks for a great channel!
This was a fantastic watch! I've been subscribed to your channel for a while, and your production quality and storytelling is improving with every single video. Some amazing stuff!
Much appreciated!
Fantastic! No better way to spend time with your kids than In the garage getting dirty and learning new skills and bringing a piece of history back from the brink!!

Car is worth saving. Very rare. But a father and son bond. Is priceless.
so worth it to keep this old beauty going. Shame she is so damn rusty. PLEASE do a follow up when these guys get their act together and do the resto. Brilliant Larry. Thanks man.
Anyone who would say "crush it" is ignorant. Y'all did a great job!
I'm not in the industry. I dont even clean or wash my own car. But these videos are my favorite thing on youtube. Never stop!
Wow! Great project for a father and son to do together. It will be fun...and expensive, but the time spent together doing this will be priceless! Enjoy every minute guys!
I just received news that I have school until May 21st and exams the month after but seeing this in my subscription box cheered me up
Really enjoyed this one (especially as a father). Would love to see Joe and son start a UA-cam channel when they get to the restoration. And Larry, you continue to reinforce what a good person I think you are. So happy the channel is having success!
OHHHH MAN! I love these videos! Pizza rolls and a “no wash in 20 years” video...perfect!
That car is literally a gold nugget. Very valuable amongst car enthusiasts of Pontiac and the trans am
It’s really all about the story and how a car makes you feel than what it’s worth or what other people think of it. Too many people use cars as a means to flex wealth or to try to impress others
That's what brings the magic to classic cars. Every one of them has a story that multitudes of people have been involved in. Just because you can stick your foot through the floor of an old Le Mans doesn't mean its ready to end it's story.
Probably your best video yet, a story about real people with a people's car. Inperfect, like people are imperfect. Nice.
That kid will always be indebted to you, Larry! You gave his dream car a new lease on life!
Buddy has the most New York accent I love it
So cool Larry. It’s amazing the little things that the detailer can do to inspire the owners. So heartwarming man!
I love these cars. I own a somewhat rare 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Y88 Gold Special Edition. It has been featured at the Dayton Ohio Trans Am convention (Trans Am Nationals) numerous of times between 2007 - 2013. Currently sits at just over 300,000 miles on the original engine and is being stored and maintained monthly until I can get my own place once I get out of college. I inherited the car from my father when I was 11.
My weekly dose of car therapy is here!!!
No explanation needed .....anyone that’s cleaned a barn find knows what you dealt with. Nice work.

Around 2004, I was at an auto parts store in Jersey along route 10, near Whippany where I worked at the time. There was pristine 1972? With an SD 455. The owner was a retired pilot. He had factory spec'd the car in order to prepare for the gumball rally, which ended up being canceled due to the gas crisis. Route 80 was still being built out, and he and his buddies would due speed and gas consumption trials on it, before it was completed. There is nothing like getting an automotive history lesson from the people that lived it. Great job Larry. Give us an update if you can, as I am a fellow Queens car guy. Thanks!

So I just gotta say, I’ve been watching and enjoying Larry’s channel since the beginning. I like detailing my own vehicles. It’s good exercise and rewarding. Today my daughter came by in her 2016 CRV. I don’t think it’s been washed in a few years. So while she and my wife/her mother hung out, I decided to wash it. It truly gave me a whole other level of appreciation of how hard Larry works. My vehicles are easy to wash. Try washing a car that hasn’t been cleaned in years. 😳
The difference between just doing a job and being enthusiastic about it.
Thanks. Time spent with kids is precious and priceless. Incredible, I hope they can restore the Firebird.😊

Imagine Larry Kosilla detailing a car that was freshly restored by Car SOS. Now that would be something amazing.
This episode did remind me a lot about Car SOS. Fuzz and Tim don't do restorations. They rescue cars. Literally. They take cherished cars that are in danger of being junked, that have fallen out of care, for various reasons, and bring them back to life, and in doing so give their owners and their viewers a big fat grin. And they often end up saving a bit of automotive history too, as many of the cars are rare.

I'm always on the lookout for these cars and the other day I was driving in my neighborhood and I caught a glimpse of a T/A out of the corner of my eye, I pull over and see it is a 1979 10th Anniversary outside with a 1993 T/A inside (not a big fan of that style) I wait and then I walk down the driveway and call out and the owner comes out and I ask if he wants to sell, he does but as the conversation gets deeper I can see he wants more money than I want. He tells me the 10th WS6 4-speed car has a real history of pacing the actual race. The car was sitting in the garage since 94 and this was the first sun it has seen since, it was in very good condition 4 spd with CAITNOP in the windshield, as an avid car maniac myself owning around 18 Mustangs, Foxes, Shelby's, GT350, Cobras, Hellcat, Scat packs, 7 SRT GC's and currently a 21 Mach 1 on order to be built in a couple weeks. I'm also a firefighter that when I was working 24 hrs and it was slow I was known to detail my cars for 20 of those hours, lol. Anyway, I told him since I love these cars and I am good with eBay I would help him take pics and list for him but DO NOT WASH the "barn find" dirt as a selling point OR the only other guy I know who can clean this car is AMMO. I'm going to stop by this weekend to give your info, I hope he calls.
Seat welded to the floor from rust in typical GM fashion
probably already like that from the dealer cause GM is nothing but JUNK
@@yungtooli 1975. That's 45 years old and being stored outdoors not moved for 20 years.
@@FTsingos excuses. its just typical GM junk thats all
@@yungtooli you're right. All other cars are rust free after 45 years.
you not only master at your craft but you also restore love in your many techniques of detailing. Thank you
"Downtown Queens?" There's no such place. But I do recognize my neighborhood. I've seen some awesome older cars in my area... But never saw this one.
Is that a Bricklin behind you at about 9:27?
Looks like Woodside
