- I had a little chat with Doug Stanhope while he was visiting some comedian friends at the Just For Laughs comedy festival in Montreal on July 16. So here's how that went down. -dylan

Doug didn't really care about the audio, he couldn't get his cigarette lit in the wind. 🤣😂🤣
Lol too true
doug stanhope is the real deal...EVERY single comic should take their cue from him - in terms of persoanlity, perspective, humility and passion for performing. so totally underrated, BUT he LIKES being on the downlow which is what i admire about him most...he is all about his fans and comedy...he RULES.
Gotta love how Dylan calls Doug a caring guy for worrying about the audio, and Doug defends himself by saying that he's moving purely for his own convenience.
Gotta love Stanhope❤
Doug's a real classy dude. I keep finding the next video of him and wondering if this is going to be the one that reminds me that people shouldn't meet their heros, but it never comes.
Also, decent camerawork for a cell phone video.
Hopefully you've met Doug in the 3 years since you posted this, but in case you have not, I went to see Doug this past summer at a small Funny Bone club, we were front and center, so much so that one of the stage lights was pointed directly in my face, naturally Doug made a few jokes at my expense which was great to get a personalized touch to a killer set. After the show he apologized for the lighting and had an awesome chat. Trust me, he's a guy you'll want to meet before he's 6ft under.
@@alextaylor1638 it'll be a sad day for comedy when he finally kicks it. I can only hope that, when it happens, it'll be a warning sign for Bert Kreischer to slow down.
Best comedian ever. Period
stanhope is a class act
Cool! Doug is aware of the effects of wind on mics!! Most don't have that level of awareness. Cool!
Stanhope is a brilliant comic and a top-notch guy. I had the pleasure of spending a few hours with him and his girlfriend one night and he could not have been more down-to-Earth and, dare I say, polite. Awesome, awesome guy.
really appreciated this. thanks for taking the time and getting it online.
tx for posting
Doug's a legit comic
hes a chill dude. and the same goes for anyone trying to come up in music, the venues or festivals will make bank and the actual performers get shitted on
Doug is the GOAT. One of a kind comedian and a good guy.
i would really love to have a good conversation with Doug. Lucky you, thanks for the upload and enjoy the rest of your life :)
Mark normand casually walking by at 3:16
I like Doug, he's a really down to Earth guy with nothing to lose.
Even in a podunk interview like this Mr Stanhope was still funny, hungover and funny. Kemloops, eh!
good work!
Doug is the top of the comedy crop.
Gets defensive when someone calls him caring 😂 love that
Critics against the video may say mundane or boring. I, myself, say I just got a general and over all good feeling at Doug's down-home-ness and how he just seems to be a regular dude.......You got to appreciate that...
Doug Stanhope is a complete badass
A party full of vodka in a car wash until 6am lollllllll. Fuck I feel like an old smock when I hear things like this.
Just a nice, honest guy
Take that, Saskatoon.
I'm so pissed I missed him when he came into town! Fuck!
The heir to Hicks and Carlin, but in his own category.
i love doug
Hi, Dylan. I like your hair.
haha, tribble and saskatoon were the first two places to headline me, 2002/2003.
pink floyd - the wall
- That blog post, "Comedy Death Camp" is among the greatest articles I've ever read. It is so perfect and so whole and so well stated/reasoned that it borders on thesis-eligible. The fact that he riddled that shit off in a room with a computer and his thoughts puts it in the range of intellect I can only classify as philosophy. Do yourself a favor, read it.
Doug is punk rock personified.
Rocked it. Showing your age Doug lol ;)
anyone that's a fan would love to have a chance to talk to Doug guess that's why some sound jealous.
What a guy.
@luciferslight100 he was speaking about Dave Attell... Pretty famous comic
Me heard differing tales about Bill Hicks in Oz. Don't know what the hell to make of it all.
Make sure you read 'Agent of Evolution', by Kevin Booth (Bill Hicks's great pal). A splendid book.
Doug Stanhope's the best since Bill Hicks. They're BOTH masters of the language.
lol was it the glasses or did stanhope spill beer on his white t
You's lot didn't quite take to Bill Hicks, right?
@JPhinfan86 It was good, but better than the reply to bobby barnett's letter? close call.
Ahh, the 1st screwdriver of the day, maybe.
"we blame the urban act"
lol
@MickieQuick Doug Stanhope
that interviewer was amazing witty spontaneous insightful the lot! Doug was ok if you like that sort of thing
@MickieQuick Dave Attell
Someone take the camera from Michael J. Fox he's getting ridiculous
He doesn't know it but people would kill for this guy. Not that he would want any body dead XD
Considerate for him to go out of his way to move just for an interview, that he didn't even have to do in the first place.
he chainsmokes
I've never seen a chain in his mouth. Besides chains are very hard to keep lit, especially in the wind.
:-p
I wish he would have stopped in Oliver.....
Every time I see him in videos he's always smoking lol
So? How about instead of smoking, he's picking his nose? Would that be more to your liking?
he is always smoking. He's a chainsmoker
Doug and Bill Maher are my 2 favorites right now.
Terrible production quality but even still a great interview.
Stanhope has more technical sense than dude doin the interview..
Just saying
Is he really like his stage persona?
Yep. He is an alcoholic who is hilarious when drunk. When sober he seems uncomfy and he stutters, but hes drunk most of the time.
halifax to vancouver is not the whole country, Doug. look at a map sometime.
The host seemed deflated that you can't teach comedy. You can still learn it.
He can be the meanest prick but he’s such a nice guy...
Does the cameraman have Parkinson's? Some shaky work.
@ndmclash Hahaha punk rock, he doesnt even like music
in translation black people haha
This interview was cringeworthy, but not because of Doug. Take off your straight-laced college shoes and learn how to vibe.
I'm not seeing that. Doug was nice enough to move the interview out of the wind. They both seemed to enjoy talking to each other, Doug made some great point, and he gave m the name of a comedian I haven't heard of yet. Seems like the interview went pretty well.
