Even though the world is fucked, I take comfort from listening to Doug Stanhope talk about how it is fucked.
HipHop Anonymous Will burn together.
Most real and down to earth person ever
@Marque Markofthebeast i'm sure you tell your kids the same
Great tribute to Hitch.
This man, among many other comics have changed my life and I know it to be for the better. Thank you to Doug and all his comedic allies.
Stanhope IS right.
Well they are burying miles of plastic, mostly water bottles.
IMHO him, Hicks, Carlin and Bruce got mostly one thing on common: they are so direct that they are on the direct border to offend most people, and that was and is needed.
dailydols : Very, very true!
"All that the comedian has to show for his years of work and aggravation is the echo of forgotten laughter." - Fred Allen
I love DS, thanks for everything dude.
What a prophet. Love Doug. Thanks for posting.
Big thanks alhough it's been a while since that great show. One of the best Stanhope interviews. Deeper stuff, not that basic shit "what inspires you", "how did you start". Big up and thanks again!
Thank fuck, a good interview with Doug, though it coming from Finland is no surprise, you fuckers know how to do things well!
Haha. I've been listening to him since I was 13. 16 now... I could listen to him over and over again. Not enough specials to fill the day.
His take on being compared to other comedians is so true.
thank you so much!
Its "Sunglasses" by "Guessmen" from their album "From the bins".
Stanhope is easily the most enlightened comic out there. I think he also said it, that if he could just communicate to audiences who were 14 years old in bars(jnstead of 21 & up), he might make more of a dent.
Stanhope for Prez. FUCK the rules of the game.
This is an awesome interview. Showing this to my friends :P
Thanks for this!!!!!!
Christopher Hitchens: "If I could be as bright as that guy AND drunk all the time?!?"
Hell yeah ^_^
is the long version of this interview out there somewhere?
I could listen to Doug's repacked material all day.
best stanhope interview on youtube
Stanhope likes Howard Bloom
My mind is blown
I admire them both. Nobody I know seems to know who they are. Yet one considers the other an influence. That's just amazing.
I do , not surprised .
Same with Hitchens
Everyone knows Hitchens.
+Jeremy Kean Thats life. You read a book. Nobody knows anything. It's just people writing their theories, stories, jokes and then someone else is inspired by it so they create art, comedy, or whatever based on it and throw in their own thoughts if they have any.
what is the song that plays at the end?
Anyone know the name of the song at the end?
Kyllä. :)
Doug Stanhope clips such as this are my new “toilet book” lol
Good interview.
i'm smarter than most people I know, and that terrorizes the fuck out of me... gotta remember that quote..
Whats the name of the song they put at the end??!!!
Checkout 'The Criminal History of Mankind' by Colin Wilson.
I have never heard Rogan do the "there are no grownups" bit, but I have heard Carolla do it numerous times.
@samisacool1 - Well I've only been around 40 years. And as a kid, a man could go door to door selling vacuums and such, while owning a car and a house, raising a family of four, and having a stay at home wife. And still retire after 20 or so years. Now ----- I should be retired, but am not a day closer than the day I graduated high school. No wife, no kids, no house, and still barely making it. And I'm better off than most people I know. And we're still not at the bottom of this hill.
@ellk420 your so right i felt the need to tell you so
I love this dude .. great interview
not hating but i wish you had played the conversation and questions being asked unedited instead of the black screen with the text, only reason is im trying to draw and work while listening and i have to keep rewinding and looking for the question. At 12:00 the interviewer was about to speak and i really wanted to hear what he had to say even tho im here for stanhope. All in all awesome interview tho
Wow. Never thought I'd hear Stanhope mention Christopher Hitchens. Thia is great.
Stanhope is underground Hitchens
the only thing doug has in common with hicks and pryor is that doug is just as good as a comedian as they were. period. and with the deaths of them and carlin, dangerfield, and maybe kinison.....doug is now hands down the best living comedian and for anyone that does not agree just does not get it. To put in an ez way....bill burg is the 2nd best comedian on the planet but he is such a distant second it isnt worth even bringing it up, that is how fine doug stanhope is
k thats just your opinion though. The truth is different for different people.
ck lewis is also in there
I would say that Stewart Lee, Frankie Boyle, Billy Connolly, and Louis CK would give Doug a run for his money. My top 3 living are Lee, Boyle, and Stanhope (in no order).
~Burr, not Burg.
Doug knows his shit, and can deliver those jokes over and over with such good drunk delivery. Much love Stanhope!!!!!!!
what's the name of the book ? :D
@MrKinloch Haha the Sarah Palin bit on youtube is a prime example! XD Hilarious!
Stanhope = Genius
Anybody know the name of the song at the end?
i agree pretty much with everything he says
faith in humanity growing stronger
it feels strange to see him move his hands without holding a cigarette
nice one
the almighty google can't find that song or band. :(
@ellk420 You know Joe Rogan's Devolution Of Stupid People bit? It's brilliant.
@ellk420 Just make sure your kids absorb his wisdom!
Stanhope, Carlin, Hicks, Pryor, All have a number of things in common. Truth, Conviction, Frustration. Angst. Philosophy. Drugs. Alcohol. Logic. Smarts. Wit. Storytelling. Fluency. Truth. Truth. Truth.
@samisacool1 - The world being doomed part. Better days behind than to come. Imagine all the 60+'s of the future as homeless people, and you're probably optimistic if that's your worst contemplation.
thats insane man. cheers to free-thinking
the only comic that matters Doug Stanhope!!!!!!!!!
One is to stir the drink, its not hollow. The other is a straw.
Fuck, I had this idea to interview Doug when he came to Amsterdam, and I pussied out. I feel like an idiot now.
I really like Doug Stanhope and I agree with almost everything he says. But please do recycle. At least for the sake of those who don't believe humanity is doomed.
lol?
Residential and municipal waste is like 1% of all waste and pollution. The main culprits are industry, gov and military. Every single man and woman on earth could recycle 100% of their trash and there would still be 99% of it being pumped into the environment every single fucking day. Recycled tote bags and flip flops are not going to make one bit of difference.
21 year old Stanhope fan. Fuck yeah, young Stanhope fans will save this world!... or destroy it in a fiery blaze. One of the two. Depends how much you piss us off.
it might be a shame that Stanhope is so jaded he refused to have a child for his own personal life but in the big picture is means nothing. kind of like what he says about recycling, his not having a child in the big picture "environmentally" means nothing, personally it may be tragic for him, or not
Bacteria adapt that's why bacteria still exists.
@BillKiernan
He always thought he was shitnuts, but Doug is a friend of Alex.
Raw unfiltered comedy.
15 year old fan here.
now you're 21
Grab a beer

Greatest comic ever
@ellk420 lots of smart people have kids :)
I depends some people in 3rd world countries are already "paying" only 500 years ago we lived like shit and we were "paying" its subjective it doesn't mean we wont be happy, but this conversation is extremely complicated. But the fat cats are scared because we might steal their resources. And it depends how hard the shit hits the fan our paradigm might shift and we might become savage.
In the grand spectrum of the universe... we really aren't anymore relevant than bacteria.
Internet is fucking awesome
Dough in finland, mitä vittua?
rip hitchens
@ellk420 Oh God... world full of mini-Doug's... hide your Jager.
So much more than a raging alcoholic.
fto
Damn Stanhope is more European than American!
?
