Using the method at 10 mins to avoid menus for fast travelling made me love this game way more. And you will def miss random encounters if you never spend time in your ship and only.use the map to fast travel
Fast travel being the only option when you have hundreds of locations is a bit lame, since there’s no continuity anywhere. That’s a clean break from how they used to do things, and I think it would be not a big deal by itself, but the core systems of the game have become way too shallow compared to older rpgs. Agreed. You don't even need to leave the landing pad on planets to use the map for fast travel, if you go to the navigation table in your ship. Wait, the reviews stand around 9 on agregators (with 3 jokers out of nearly 60 who gave 7/10), player reviews "very positive" on steam, and you consider that "midling reviews"??
The issue with discussing games for me is that people can be so hell-bent on proving a point that they end up going out of their way to nitpick certain issues and turn them into glaring argument points. I intentionally avoided any videos about the video game until I played it (And I've sank about 43 hours since the 3rd), but I knew I could watch your video without souring my experience of the game because you guys are super level-headed and fair about stuff like this. I'm very grateful that I found you guys years ago and I'm even more grateful that I can continue to watch your videos!
Man I already played 70 hours of the game. And I really enjoyed it so far. Although I feel like I got exactly what I thought was being pitched but maybe I just didn’t get to whirled up in the marketing…
7/10 isn't bad given recent Bethesda releases. Bethesda improved. Looking forward to hearing what they do with this new IP. I won't be playing it but glad Xbox finally has a solid IP.
Starfield delivered exactly what was promised and what was expected out of Bethesda Softworks. The only thing that's changed is that some people are slowly realizing that their games are just a bit shit
I still think it's hilarious people thought Bethesda is even capable of releasing a 10/10 game. It's a fun game but saying starfield is better than baldurs gate 3, dave the diver, sea of stars, dead space remake, resident evil 4 remake, etc is asinine.
ok the cargo hold full of potatoes is actually impressive. there's a lot of geometry and calculations thats happening there and im glad it didnt break the game when they did that.
I think enjoying a video game for what is is, is a generational thing, Bruce. Growing up playing games in the 90s, where you had to use your imagination a lot of the way, you got use to not having everything spelled out for you in perfect fashion. I still remember watching the intro to Half-Life 1 for the first time and being amazed that it spend such a long time just introducing me to the game, because I was use to simply having a cgi intro and then start playing the game immediately after. Even today my expectation for a game is for it to have good game mechanics that's surrounded by an immersive world, and then rest is really just icing on the cake.
Yeah that’s fine there’s plenty of trashy stuff I enjoy, just please don’t delude yourself into thinking this is good game design that needs to be replicated. This is an “open-world” where you just jump between instances, and moreover there’s no fuel management or any kind of strategy to this. Since your abilities are dictated entirely by which perks you’ve picked, you’re not free to play the game how you want at all. In older elder scrolls games if you wanted to try out a different skill all you had to do was start using it, or maybe buy some spells/training. In Starfield every perk you pick is an opportunity cost for the other options. Frankly, is this an idiotic progression system to have in an open-ended game. I don’t know how they haven’t figured this out. Skyrim sort of had this issue, but now it’s even worse.
@@cirkleobserver3217 I'm trying to think of an open world game where your choices on leveling didn't matter. I think every RPG ever has character build guides for a reason. Every Fallout, Skyrim, Oblivion, not Morrowind though. Baldur's Gate 3 is very limited in character building but this isn't a bad thing is it? Large part of replay is trying new builds. Outer Worlds got 3 play throughs from me, Cyberpunk a few as well and each experience was different. NMS jumps between instances, flying around the planet surface and up into space was nice but largely time consuming and lost its appeal quickly. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I think everyone that likes the game only watched the 45 minute expo like I did and didn't start looking for things that weren't going to be there in the first place.
@@uchadbroI don't think BG3 is limited in character building, you just need a good understanding of the DnD system to not botch your build while multiclassing.
I pre-ordered it on Game Pass and have probably put 10-15 hours in so far. I’m really enjoying the game. Im thinking about playing whenever Im not actually playing 😂.
I think the problem people have is that it still basically under delivered, especially when you compare that games like No Mans Sky and that Star… game that will never officially release already do everything way better. The game is still fun but for something that was supposedly to be X-box’s big release capable of finally showing that they can make games on par with Sony’s GOW, Horizon, or even EA’s Jedi Fallen Order, it largely falls below the AAA level that we would expect from a massive company like Microsoft
@@insanittiez4860 ya, maybe. Its largely meeting my expectations. I wish the space exploration and ship flying was a bit more like No Mans Sky but beyond that, I find this to be more fun.
I think the biggest issue with these types of space games is that they can't actually provide handcrafted love for each of these "1000's of planets". In the end you have to procedurally generate content and that means that eventually you will reach a point where you feel like you are no longer exploring but just doing the same thing over and over again. They lose that handcrafted love and charm that we have come to love from Bethesda games.
For those who love the traveling tip at 10 minute mark. It wasn't mentioned specifically so thought I'd mention you have to target the waypoint to warp to it. For PC that means hitting E. Probably most people don't need this. But I'm sure that saved a few people a minute or two to figure it out like I did. It really is a game changer. And Bethesda did a horrible job of teaching you to do it that way instead of constantly bringing up the map.
So glad to hear you say Skyrim is a 7/10. My wife’s been trying to get me to play Skyrim for 10 years. My response to her is always, the combat is terrible, and the gameplay looks boring. She loves it, I’m okay with that, but it’s not for me.
I don't get the "Not what was promised" argument. I'm like 35 hours in and if you wanted to perceive the things they said about the game with bias from what you WANTED their words to mean... Sure, but it's pretty much as expected to me even taking in all pre-launch info into account
After being burned so many times expecting Bethesda to make a good RPG. The best decision I ever made was to go into this game with the mindset that it was quest driven sandbox and not an RPG. I find myself enjoying this game far more than other Bethesda titles, but if I went in wanting to roleplay I probably would’ve been disappointed again.
not gonna lie, my expectations for starfield was sky high, specially after playing 2 of probably the best games of the last decade, baldur's gate 3 and zelda TOTK... but it's a bethesda game, there's no other way to describe it, i was expecting it to be at the level of BG3 and zelda TOTK, but it's a more polished bethesda game with a larger scope
With 30 hours in the game, I like it. It’s fun, combat is alright, ship combat and customization on console is pretty clunky, inventory management and overall menus are a little clunky. Exploration is definitely not as in-depth as they said it would be….But hey, over all it’s a fun game and I like the story and characters ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Went to my cousins to play it because I don’t own an Xbox/ PC and what I learned is that starfields character creation is one of the most fun parts of the game! I’m thankful we can still fly the ship and board others, that’s great to me!
the vents are in a lot of different places not just one. Stealth is for sure busted where it seems sometimes NPCs have spidey sense and other times it's typical bethesda stealth where you are basically invisible
It’s imo the feel of every Bethesda game since Oblivion: It’s a relatively blank canvas where you can do whatever you want with it…including mods. The modding community is gonna bring this game up to 11 really fast.
88% on OpenCritic with 92% of Critics recommending the game. 88 PC, 86 Xbox on Metacritic. Not sure why people are calling the reviews middling or a bad game, I don’t even like Bethesda games and I feel it’s insane people are trying to paint this as some kind of failure. 🤷🏻♂️
Was watching videos about Alannah's starfield situation and someone mentioned you guys were doing "Inside games" which had me scratching my head.....I had no idea y'all returned. Oh how I missed Bruce's wheeze. May not be completely interested in much gaming news anymore "Insert Bruce's Uh Oh stare" but my Sub was instantly giveth. Can't believe I missed you guys starting this journey this whole time. I don't really follow anyone at all anymore but I'll be following this.
I must say that for the first few hours I was very much just thinking "this makes me want to start up a new character on no man's sky" because it does space so much better than Starfield does. But, once I realised that Starfield is just the standard Skyrim "you're the chosen one" story line with some interesting side quests, that's what got me into it.
Honestly, I agree with AZ. Keep the modern day bullsh1t out of video games. It ruined the film industry and games like Forspoken or the Saints Row reboot show how easily they can ruin video games.
Like all Bethesda games. It was pretty much what I expected. Which is good. But not even close to what Todd Howard tried to sell the game as. I get he doesn't always decide what's in or not in the game. But he decides what to sell the game as. And it's always based on half-truths at best.
I love it the first side mission I did made it great in my eyes going to get some bar maid some posh drinks from a broken down ship that constantly switches its gravity on and off and having to use this to navigate through certain parts of the ship to get to the objective while fighting dudes on the way sick game mate
I work from home and share office space with my significant other. I just got in trouble for applauding when Lawrence said "I feel like Skyrim and Fallout were always 7 out of 10 games-" WELL SAID, SIR. Mile wide/inch deep is really the Bethesda Experience. It can be good, but it's all shine and almost no substance.
Thank you for a very fair and unbiased review. If you were overly hyped for this game, this review gives you a dose of reality. Conversely, if you were hyper down on this game, this review shows what is really enjoyable. Mass Effect has superior writing by far, but traveling throught space was pretty much the same in regards to "jumping" to locations. Plus, you don't RUN OUT OF FUEL! In terms of shooting, I was surprised I was playing a Bethesda game. And in other parts I was harshly aware of that fact. I think it's up to each player to filter through the broken promises and overly critical complaints. Your video helped me to find the game that I am enjoying now!
06:37 I like this quote. Starfield is definitely a bumpy ride at times. (I've hit level 38 just recent, and since level 30, I've experienced the game just shutting down on me)
I mean Todd himself said from the beginning that this is a Bethesda game in space, nothing more, nothing less. People who expected no man’s Skyrim are the ones who built themselves up for failure.
Your reviewer was a big PlayStation fanboy didn't they give Mass Effect Andromeda higher score that's just wrong and some of the other IGN's give it perfect or near-perfect scores how that's possible
Metacritic: 89% highly praised reviews. 10% mixed reviews. Yet they focus on the average reviews and say the game is getting mixed reception. Isn't that weird?
The game was cracked day 1 lol. I played the entire early access for free. Sucker if you paid for it tbh. Also you can convert your save from gamepass to steam (the free version is steam based) So no gamepass will not hold you hostage.
I have every intention of playing Starfield but I'm waiting for the mod scene to really take off once the Creation Kit is released. Until then I can wait.
i thought it was good after the first few hours and now im hooked after completing the freestar ranger, uc sec def and uc vanguard faction quests also only completed like 2 of the main story quests i love the mission boards i have unlocked for those factions and am loving this game though i would agree with a lot of the criticisms .
I think the game has pretty long legs despite its limitations. I’m still just starting the game and I’m already finding myself enthralled with even menial crap and managing stuff on my ship. I never expected systems like what we have in Elite Dangerous or Star Citizen in my Bethesda rpg. It’s more like Mass Effect in a much bigger corral.
Never realized a game rating should be based on it not fitting a genre enough, and not how fun it is, how it plays, how it looks and how much content there is within the game.
I feel like the divide can be summed up by this. There are people who love the Bethesda RPG format who had a good idea what the game would actually be and people who are upset because Tod talked it up to be something that it probably never could have been.
And 8.5 seems right, if we compare the game to what they promised its like a 6/10, they promised the world and gave us a good product, but not an amazing one
Love you bois, so glad I found you two again. Missed you both ❤️

Wait, the reviews stand around 9 on agregators (with 3 jokers out of nearly 60 who gave 7/10), player reviews "very positive" on steam, and you consider that "midling reviews"??
I love Starfield so far.
Very easy to please, uh? I guess I envy you in a way.

YOU GUYS HAD THE MOST ACCURATE REPRESENTATION OF STARFIELD ON THE INTERNET SINCE THE BEGINNING GOOD REPORTING
there are vents in random outposts that you can use your cutter to get into and sneak around, its not only a story event :)
IGN gave Doom 2016 a 7.1
That’s what it deserves. Eternal is a lot better though.
It has a 88 and 86 on metacritic. How is it getting mixed reviews
7/10 is a bit generous for Starfield. May be once they finish the "goty" edition.
It's skyrim in a space skin, and most gamers are going g to be okay with that. Anyone expecting anything more may be disappointed.
last I checked, 7/10 is not mixed
I feel that 86 is a good score, and even a 7 is a good game. A 5-6 out of 10 is suppose to be average/bad
It's a great game, but it's not the magnum opus that it was hyped up to be.
You were right.
inside gaming fan here. love all your stuff boys never stop!
Am I crazy?? The average review score is 85-88?? That's not very mixed :')
Bruce seems better this video. Last video he sounded really rough with that heavy cold he had
ok the cargo hold full of potatoes is actually impressive. there's a lot of geometry and calculations thats happening there and im glad it didnt break the game when they did that.
Even today my expectation for a game is for it to have good game mechanics that's surrounded by an immersive world, and then rest is really just icing on the cake.
i disagree, fromsoftware games and recently TOTK/BOTW make you use your imagination for the story and the gameplay.
@@cirkleobserver3217This game is just making me more excited for Avowed maybe getting shit right that Bethesda simply can't figure out.
Mods will make this game what we expected
As far as the stealth, I'm not saying it is justified but you do need to pick up certain skills for stealth and pick pocket.
HOW TF IS THE LIGHTING ON LAWRENCE'S VIDEO SO GOOD!?
I’m enjoying the game and I’m addicted. Haven’t felt this way about a game in a while. Imagine needing other people to reassure your feelings.
I mean starfield is basically what I expected maybe a bit worse but I'm ok with that and still gonna play hundreds of hours.
Is not like they gonna abandon Stanfield. Thinks of patches and dlc. The game can grow bigger
The fact that someone had to point out the fact that traveling does not require use of menu screens in this game pretty much shows how low the bar is
I don't get the "Not what was promised" argument.
It looks like Fallout 4 but in Space. So it’s gonna be a 6/10 that’ll still somehow get many hours out of me.
Don’t care what anyone says, the ship building system is 10/10
Cyberpunk had to do a mass refund after Sony pulled it from their store. Starfield by comparison is an all time great launch lol
I love your videos, keep up the great work
“Todd lied but the game is fun anyway” perfectly sums up my starfield experience
People are going to freak out when Spider-Man 2 only gets a 7.5 or 8.
AC also got a 7
Adults don't dismiss arguments by using faulty condescending personal attacks. Try harder guys.
Gunna wait till lightsabers are modded in.
Bruce and Lawrence have such on point opinions. This is a 7/10 game I’m excited to come home and play for hours
If you got it with gamepass you are good even if you play it only for a few hours. 7/10 feels like the right score for me.
Wasn't New Vegas getting 7s back when it was released though?
Honestly, I agree with AZ. Keep the modern day bullsh1t out of video games. It ruined the film industry and games like Forspoken or the Saints Row reboot show how easily they can ruin video games.
Starfield was exactly what I thought it would be and I love it. I also feel like Bathesda did a good job showing what it was
Like all Bethesda games. It was pretty much what I expected. Which is good. But not even close to what Todd Howard tried to sell the game as. I get he doesn't always decide what's in or not in the game. But he decides what to sell the game as. And it's always based on half-truths at best.
The ad should have used the line “lets go f@ck some space up”😊
I love it the first side mission I did made it great in my eyes going to get some bar maid some posh drinks from a broken down ship that constantly switches its gravity on and off and having to use this to navigate through certain parts of the ship to get to the objective while fighting dudes on the way sick game mate
fighting the same spacer/pirate enemies with the occasional robot or alien sure got old
Steam reviews are very healthy. It's a game that grows on people.
Yea, that's what happens when you settle because your biased
I work from home and share office space with my significant other. I just got in trouble for applauding when Lawrence said "I feel like Skyrim and Fallout were always 7 out of 10 games-"
WELL SAID, SIR.
Classic episode of legally distinct Inside Games in full stride yet again
Lawrence has immaculate lighting in this video
After playing 5 hours of Starfield, I can confirm that Lawrences facecam position makes it seem like he's giving me Bethesda style dialogue.

I like this quote.
Metacritic:
89% highly praised reviews.
Calling Starfield "a 7 out of 10 game that I'm still going to but 250+ hours into" is about as perfect a description of a Bethesda RPG as you can get.
I'm happy with Starfield, cause its exactly what I expected from Bethesda......
And 8.5 seems right, if we compare the game to what they promised its like a 6/10, they promised the world and gave us a good product, but not an amazing one
It's pretty fun. I didn't really like fallout 4 but I like this way more
